  1. sturge, you hung that all by your lonesome?  wow, but bet your lats & traps felt it for days afterward.

  2. heckuva job, Donnie, even if you do say so yourself according to AP:

“We have done a hell of a job,” Trump told reporters Friday, as he sent an ominous message to state and local leaders who have been urging the federal government to do more to save lives.
“If they don’t treat you right, I don’t call,” Trump said, shortly after telling reporters: “I want them to be appreciative.”

  3. Much less spectacular and heavy is this pile of electronics.  I broke down and built a new server to handle all the videos and photos that I am creating.  It is the square black box.  Right now it is eight terabytes, to be expanded to sixteen terabytes in a couple of months.  The blue flat rectangle with the cables hanging off of it is a fast ethernet switch to handle some of the equipment in the house such as computers, televisions, DVD’s, A/V receivers, and things.  The right hand box with the shny top is a gigabit router to handle the traffic to and from the server.  Other things are an ancient computer, used to be a server ten years ago, a few external memory boxes, and the grey thing is an old laser printer.

Today’s tasks are to clean up the tangle of cables and power cords, reposition the electronics and enjoy life.

    Like I said, I am a geek.

  4. what a difference.  180 degrees different from IMpotus.  bet Andy’s words will be recited by generations of kids to come (not just the “kick ass” part) and Donnie’s drivel will be heard only in jokes by late night comedians

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan Friday where members of the New York National Guard are constructing a 1,000-bed field hospital to help in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

  5. wapo via msn:

Trump signed an executive order that allows Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper to order units and individual members “and certain Individual Ready Reserve” members, Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Rath Hoffman said in a statement released just after midnight on Saturday morning. The Individual Ready Reserve comprises former active-duty and reserve service members, who are commonly considered out of the military and rarely recalled.

  6. Pat, I have a helper, this strange lady who seems to have been hanging out wherever I’ve lived for the last 43 years.

  7. Sturg – Beautiful work

I wake up.  I look at my phone to see if this is real. Yep.  Going back to sleep now.

  8. Sturg.  Nice work. That helper the one who “suggests” that you do certain things around the house that you’d really prefer not to do?

Well, dumbass starts acting like he gives half a shit, 105000 confirmed cases and 1734 dead Americans too late. And now he wants to keep the IG from doing what he just signed into law.  He gets worse as every minute passes.

  9. Be right there……..oh, wait……

But just in case you’re serious, U-Haul is cheap and getting there is just a day’s work 🙂

  10. Leon.  Man, he was a treasure – fun(?) fact – in 1979 he survived a small plane crash in East Bumfuck.

And surg, suggests – yes, LOL.

  11. Broadway Play of The Month:
“The Odd Couple” was a BRILLIANT play.
An inspired work of absolute genius.

  12. Jamie…. hope all will be ok for your granddaughter.

    Nice cabinets, Sturg!

Going to a new store that opened right up the street yesterday.  It’s a small grocery store and they carry fresh produce.  Lived in this town for 41 yrs….  and finally…  I can get apples, bananas, or a head of lettuce!  Sigh…  the simple things in life are so exciting now.

  13. yahoo news:

WASHINGTON — Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, says that Trump administration officials declined an offer of early congressional funding assistance that he and other senators made on Feb. 5 during a meeting to discuss the coronavirus.
The officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, said they “didn’t need emergency funding, that they would be able to handle it within existing appropriations,” Murphy recalled in an interview with Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast
“What an awful, horrible catastrophic mistake that was,” Murphy said.
On Feb. 5, Murphy tweeted: “Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren’t taking this seriously enough. Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.”

  14. Plague! Huh! (Good God, y’all)
    What is it GOOD for?
    Absolutely NOTHIN’!
    (Say it again)

  15. My (soon to be “former”) friends invited me to a cook-out, today.   i’m thinking, “what about ‘global pandemic with exponential growth’ do you not understand???”

  16. Very plain, no frills; but the guts (hinges and drawer slides) are top dollar stuff.
    And: NO PARTICLE BOARD

  17. Well, 13 days into dumbass’ 15 day period to contain the virus, new confirmed cases are in the 17,000 range – the level on day 1 was 516 new confirmed cases.Great job you fat asshole.

  18. Gotta love Hoagy….. the first season, maybe 2, of “Laramie” he played as cook for the ranch.   One episode he thinks he’s not wanted anymore and runs away to Denver to play piano in a saloon. Great episode.  After his stint, he was replaced by December Bride lady, Spring Byington.

  19. Sturg , looks lovely.  Is that your house?
So, the dictator might have his name on the bottom of every check that goes out?  His  deplorables will be delighted! *gag* In the meantime, due to the current circumstances, Biden is nowhere to be seen.  Grim circumstances.

  20. Helllllp, Mith-ter Withaaaaard!  I don’t WANNA be a cabinet maker!
Tootah, Tootah, Tootah—Will you never learn?

  21. Tipper, small condo on the beach…..cabinets at home look like they were made by a caveman

  22. I’m not always sure….didn’t even meet the owners on that one…..but most want thousand dollar cabinets and are more than willing to part with 200.

  23. Yep…..used to be dreadful with Formica counters…..nowadays mostly Stone or composite material….and the drawer slides were miserable….now it’s Blum soft-close undermount and heaven in drawer-world…..$18 per drawer, wholesale.

  24. When someone asked me if my exotic-wood laminate was “paint”, i regretted my choice of hobby.

  25. This summer….or now….this as a cabinet will come to be:
20” deep, close to 56” wide. And close to 3’ to 40” height., with feet or castors behind skirt. Case will be hand-rubbed black piano finish, and doors (blue) and drawers (red, white, yellow) oil enamel to color match.
No knobs, Push to open doors/drawers utilizing push-latch magnetic catches with 1 1/4” throw from Killian hardware

  26. for you or a client?

make it a puzzle so only you can open, i.e. latch/catch for drawer “b” is inside drawer “a”…

    have fun

  27. I’m always on the lookout for hidden spaces, optical illusions, secret drawers, etc, but this one is not really a candidate for that….yet.   Here’s one I managed to get a picture of

  28. For me, for the time being. My daughter hasn’t realized yet that she LOVES Mondrian. lol

  29. CDC guidance on masks expected to change in next 10 days. All Americans will be advised to wear masks in everyday life. Current recommendation for high risk only.

  30. Where are we going to get them
This area has been out since the last fire

  31. just tie a cloth across your face… goal is to keep your saliva in your own mouth and others’ saliva out of your mouth and vice versa

from what i understand, it’s not free-floating independent virus particles that are the concern but those particles suspended in spit, snot, and mucous.

  32. That drawer went the whole width of the little table by the front foyer so he could put a shotgun and a .44 pistola  in it.
The shotgun was a bit awkward to get out of there but la pistola would come right out.

  33. Haha, used to be a letter sign in the lobby of this joint I was in for awhile usually reading: LIVE MUSIC
Every time I got a chance, I’d change it to read: EVIL MUCIS.   Little did I know.

  34. Dear Mr C,

I have two proposed topics in your ‘submit for review’ box.

    Your long time admirer,
    Xrepublican

  35. What a GORGEOUS day. 82, partly cloudy, light breezes. It’s a BBQ chicken and burger day of the first order. And beer to boot. Yuengling, I’ve got your number.

  36. not VILE MUCIS
    not MUSCLE VII
    not I LIVE SCUM
not SLUM VICE [hide an ‘i’]
    not MULES VICI

  37. X……lol…..I’ve never been terribly ambitious.
    Muscle VII…..great band name
Have a video of the brawny arm with the hammer and metal punch like at the end of “Dragnet“

  38.
    Sturge…lol…caveman.
I’ve always liked Corian.  It’s solid and if ya cut into it, it’s still the same solid material.

  39. Bink, talking heads speculate that some Maga people might not even cash their checks so they can keep the signature.  LOL….

  40. The person upstairs vacuums continually and fanatically. He’s vacuuming his deck which has tons of oak leaves as does my patio.  Now his leaves are mine!  He looks like Where’s Waldo minus the cane. Same hair. Same glasses. Same type of hat.  My son calls him Twilight Zone because he has that sticker on his car.  I said hi to him once, and he just kept walking.  Mabbe he’s deaf?

  41.
Under the “who you vote for” column
    From twitter

On March 16, Kentucky and Tennessee both had about 2 dozen coronavirus cases.
Kentucky’s [Democratic] Gov. Beshear issued a stay-at-home order.
Tennessee’s [Republican] Gov. Lee failed to act.
9 days later Kentucky has 163 cases Tennessee has 784 cases

  42. I’m a good rough in carpenter but finish work isn’t my thing. not enough patience. But admire those who do.
    Jack

  43. Blue Bronc:
    re: technology geek
I still haven’t figured out how to do a text message on my flip phone.

  44. Sturgeone: Maybe you can help Trump rebuild his cabinet, since anyone with a brain, courage, or a heart, quit long ago.

  45. Bink, SFB doesn’t drink and I don’t care much who the owner votes for. It’s the oldest brewery in America and they make good beer. If Michelob amber bock was widely available I’d be happy drinking it, but if frogs had wings….
I admit to being lazy and not researching the political leanings of the owners of the companies I buy things from. And since I’ll probably buy no more than 2 or 3 cases of any beer this season I’ll take the chance that my paltry contribution to the Yuengling bottom line won’t contribute to SFB’s re-election.

  46. When I was in my twenties still on the farm we had a neighbor who did furniture. China cabinets and the like. He was really good and sold stuff to places like Sears.  It was a one man shop until he had a stroke, he hired a couple of people who thought they were good but he was picky and finally he sold the company to someone who had looser tolerances.
If it was going to come out under his name it was going to live up to his standards.
Funny thing is, his customers couldn’t tell the difference.
We ran into that with framing, Slap together a bunch of crap or take your time and build a good house and at the end of the day you got the same money.
Since the slap and go folks built more houses, they made more money.
    Jack

  47. The signature on the checks will probably be Mnuchin’s, and it will be printed, not even signed with an auto pen.

  48. If you can’t get a medical mask, all you need to do is drape any sort of scarf over your nose and mouth.
It’s not perfect but it’s better than nothing if you have to go out.  Wash it each day.
I bought some large (21″ x 21″) black bandana-sized handkerchiefs from Amazon.   You just fold them diagonally and tie the ends behind your head.
They work well, but it makes you look like you are about to rob a stagecoach.

  49. I’m going old school hipster for the summer. I bought a case of  Coors. It was on sale and is the perfect summer drinking beer, damn near water, so I keep hydrated.
Put a little habanero hot sauce in it….
    Jack

  50. hmmm, never good at this, i wanna go with, like, “the world’d greatest carpenter’s boss”,  or something like that, hmmmm…

  51. i went into a liquor store wearing a bandanna face-mask, recently, Nash

    #truestory
    #didn’tdie

  52. Yeungling CEO was one of dipshit’s most vocal supporters in 2016, he can take his trash beer, and…

hope you, enjoy it, today, and never again.

…would love to make a playlist, today, but am too busy. This would be on it:

  53. The world’s greatest carpenter was Christine Keeler. She took one screw and the whole cabinet fell apart.

I don’t write em, I just remember em.

  54. I was trying to get that mean “squinty-eyed” look that Clint Eastwood has perfected.
Instead, it looks like I’m about to fall asleep.

  55. query:  would face shields and shielded helmets pass muster if masks are mandated?  easier to clean.

another query:  wouldn’t burkas and niqabs also be equivalent (if not more so) to bandanas?

  56. yes & yes, patd.

Saw an article about “open-source face-mask”.  Be a dear and repost, here, please? 🐶

  57. Well, I’m chastened. Just never took much of a liking to Coors, but like I said, Michelob amber bock is good, and I like Mich Ultra just fine.  I assume InBev/A-B is apolitical enough?  Roughly 2:1 repug in 2016, about even in 2020. Molson Coors leans repug in donations. What’s a Democrat who’s a beer lover To do?

  58. I was thinking earlier that a person going around wearing a mask after 9/11 until 2008 was likely to be either attacked or arrested.  However, the law and mob used to hang people for poisoning wells. Times have changed indeed. The Twin Cities is the second largest Somalian urban area on earth, so we’ve mostly been getting used to it.

  59. So I wanted to go to TraderJoe’s and stock up on dolmas and pot stickers and my car wouldn’t start
Rodents were living in my engine  I cleaned out the air filter but it still wouldn’t start
we think our mechanic is closed for the duration   This sucks

  60. Mexi-beer. Great idea. Although we Pogos refer to ourselves as the corona bunch because of the NYC connection in the past 2 weeks, I love me some Modelo dark and Victoria dark. And while I’d be happy with the occasional Guiness, I could drink Harp all summer. Excellent suggestions, good sir.

  61. Something I said a few days ago needs repeating. There are more small business people impacted then the local restaurants, bars, and nail salons.  Buy music, donate to a museum, something.  I realize that a five once a month does not sound important, but, it could buy some sandpaper for a craftsperson creating a statue.  Or maybe it is enough to pay part of the cost of a studio for a musician.  Also, there are non-profits saving elephants and giraffes in Africa who need support.  A dollar or so each month helps someone.  I just tallied up my monthly donations, about one hundred dollars, I realize that is close to my maximum, but I know I am helping, a little but I am doing something.l

  62. vermin might have chewed through the ignition wires or fuel-line

    sláinte, good Sir

  63. crackers – That stinks.   Will Trader Joe’s deliver or can a neighbor pick up things for you & the mister and leave them on your doorstep?
Reading all of the state shutdowns and how long they will be in place (as late as 4/24 at this point) and hearing that we are looking at July before we are in the clear, I have lost all hope about work.   How will the stimulus package that gave small businesses money to meet payroll be of any help if we can’t go to work?   This has been the longest 3 days of my life.  If I can’t go back to work, the only way I’ll make it is if I hibernate like a bear.  I’ve been working since I was 13 years old.
Just heard from a relative who has a new, full time job refurbishing computers for the military.  I’m seeing ads for part-time duty in the Army Reserves.

  64. I have a package of masks here at home. A pack that my dad bought some time ago. A friend of mine who is a nurse, is quite crafty and she made all kinds of designer masks for her co-workers at the hospital.

  65. bid
no one delivers where we are. About 2 hours from tj
my neighbor is going to take me on Tuesday. And another neighbor isgoing to get propane and gas  for the generator

  66. I was thinking back, way back.  When I was 7 or eight we lived in Weirton, WV and used to go to Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh. Then we stopped going there or to any kind of water park because of Polio. No one knew what it was, but they thought it was in the water. Across the street there was a boy in a wheelchair who sat at the window everyday. We were told to stay away because he had polio. Turns out polio is a virus, and the Salk vaccine didn’t happen until 1955. The only difference was we weren’t quarantined back then.
I wonder what the anti-vaxxers will do if/when a vaccine is developed for Covid-19? And by looking I found my answer.
“A Fake Pandemic”: Anti-Vaxxers Are Spreading Coronavirus Conspiracy Theories

  67. Ms. Bronc, I wouldn’t mind the former, but the latter is not in the cards right now. There is a brewery in Morgantown, and I think they sell their beer locally in East Bumfuck.  I’ll check into that. Their beer is good, but pretty expensive. Their real market is WVU, which is closed for a while. Hope they’re still brewing. If not, cervezas.

  68. I have a colleague who wonders if Covid-19 has been blown out of proportion.  Maybe she should lick a few door knobs & shopping carts.  Yet, she’s staying at home.

  69. My great-aunt had polio when she was 19.  She was paralyzed for awhile, recovered but always suffered from neuropathy in her legs.
I have a partial box of masks; I bought it when they were laying new computer cable in the office a few years back and the dust set off my asthma.
    Type A blood, long QT syndrome, asthma…now I’m 3 for 3.
crackers – If you actually go with your  friend, that’s not social distancing.
I’ve heard two folks coughing outside (far away from me) today.  I expect to hear sneezing, as the ground is yellow with pollen.  The coughing is concerning.

  70. From Wiki: “In the epidemic of 1949, 2,720 deaths from the disease (polio) occurred in the United States and 42,173 cases were reported and Canada and the United Kingdom were also affected.”

  71. tiptoe – Thanks for the reminder.  Also, I’m not a smoker, so I’ve got that going for me.
crackers – Glad to hear it.  Happy shopping.
