Sunday Serendipity

It is going to be a warm sunny day, the Chiefs are in the super bowl, so for today something with a little fun, life, and action.

Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile And Stuart Duncan, each accomplished musicians in their own genre, collaborate to produce something inspired. (click on their name to learn more about each of them.) The selections in this video are from their 2011 Grammy award winning album, Goat Rodeo

I think it may be the first time I’ve seen anyone fiddle on a cello

Enjoy, Jack

Sunday Jazz and Meditation

Today I give you a twofers, some good reading and some good jazz

With Jazz on the Turntable and a Drink in His Hand,

an essay by Francis Wilkinson is the inspiration for todays selection. A great “father/son and it gets complicated here” piece. A great bit of reading to take your mind off of current events. Todays selection is from Mr. Wilkinson’s father’s favorite Jazz album, Ellington Indigos, for more information the wiki page

I tried to find a bit of the essay to give you a taste but in reality it needs to be read all in one piece. Also as I listened to todays selection and reread the essay the music adds to the enjoyment and the depth.

So put the music on the turntable, click on link above and enjoy, Jack

Sunday Serendipity

Falling snow, when it is coming down in big fat flakes is magical, so yesterday I went in search of music that would express the magic that was going on in my back yard. In my search I found “The Snow is Dancing” the 4th movement of Children’s Corner by Claude Debussy. It was magical too but short just 2 minutes. As the whole suite is just 15 minutes long it is a perfect Sunday morning piece.

enjoy Jack

From Wiki

Debussy composed Children’s Corner between 1906 and 1908. He dedicated the suite to his daughter, Claude-Emma (known as “Chou-Chou”),[1] who was born on 30 October 1905 in Paris. She is described as a lively and friendly child who was adored by her father. She was three years old when he dedicated the suite to her in 1908.[2] The dedication reads: “A ma chère petite Chouchou, avec les tendres excuses de son Père pour ce qui va suivre. C. D.” (To my dear little Chouchou, with tender apologies from her father for what follows).
