  39. Our local newspaper in Albany Oregon is reporting that ten cases of Covid-19 infection have been reported at a frozen food plant about 1/2 mile from my apartment.
     
     
    There are 270 unionized workers at the facility.  OSHA has been there for several days investigating complaints by workers that the company was not following social distancing policies or providing safety equipment.  The plant manager is refusing to comment but the union’s representative said that now that OSHA is there, the company is providing masks, face shields and is doing more cleaning of high traffic areas like the cafeteria and bathrooms.  Not surprisingly, OSHA is also refusing to comment.  (So … If there was no labor union there, NO ONE outside the facility would know anything about this, because neither the management or the federal government officials are talking to the news media.) 
     
     
    And the biggest problem according to the union is that workers who have no symptoms cannot get tested, because of state government rules.  There aren’t enough tests available in Oregon so, no symptoms = no test, even though everyone now knows that you can be infected and have no symptoms.  According to the labor union representative. “The workers are scared,”  
     
     
    You can assume that similar situations are developing at manufacturing facilities across the USA, but if they are non-union, then in many cases no one will know, because in both management and government officials are keeping silent.
     
     
    That’s what the federal government is doing these days, protecting the companies, and keeping the true extent of the problem a secret because that’s what Trump wants.

    Nash – China didn’t just mishandle this at the beginning, they lied.  They covered it up.  They are still lying.  There has been a report about a second wave and bodies being moved in the middle of the night.  So whether this was a lab accident or from  a live animal market (which no longer matches the December timeline provided by Xi-it),  they are to blame for it leaving their borders.  Once here, it became SFB’s responsibility to handle this mess…except he says he’s not responsible.

  72. The hardest part for me about this whole mess is that no matter what disaster I had thought of for SFB to fail at handling, a pandemic was not in any of them.  And, I feel horrible for any who are following him and will try it.

  103. One of the advantages of the USA’s “federal system” is that the 50 states have some degree of autonomy in setting domestic policy.  This is not true in nations like France, for example, where the central government controls everything, even at the local level.  
     
    The federal system allows individual states to “experiment” with different things and the “lessons learned” can be adopted by other states and the federal government. 
     
    An example of this is the state of Georgia where, starting today, they are “experimenting” with a “partial re-opening” of restaurants, bars, gyms, hair salons, barber shops, etc.  
     
    When the huge increase in Covid-19 infections and deaths occurs in Georgia, which medical professionals tell us is a certainty, then perhaps all the other state governors who are thinking of doing this will change their minds and the idiots demonstrating for reopening at state capitols with their assault rifles will smarten up and go home.  
     
    As any scientist can tell you, not all “experiments” have the desired result.
