awesome news! pirate queen and her boyfriend just moved to hobe sound (next to jupiter) after 24 hours of pleading, arguing,- she finally left for west coast, but boyfriend stayed behind. am exhausted from it all! spoke with tony- he is in good spirits as always (except when exposed to rabid trump supporters).
boss, not quite a Charlie brown moment. lucy still has the ball on the tee and storm’s still strong at a category 3. reported at 5:30 abc news: Hurricane Matthew battered the Florida coast with powerful winds, potentially devastating storm surges and torrential rain on Friday, leaving hundreds of thousands without power as those remaining in the storm’s path were ordered to shelter in place. The western eye wall of Matthew brushed by Cape Canaveral, home of the Kennedy Space Center, producing wind 115 mpg gusts there at around 5:30 a.m. on Friday. More than 300,000 people were already without power… Read more »
tampa bay times editorial endorsement: Florida voters tired of gridlock in Washington have a clear choice for U.S. Senate. Democrat Patrick Murphy of Jupiter has served just two terms in the House, but he is a centrist who is right on the issues and works in a bipartisan fashion. Incumbent Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Miami is on the wrong side of most every issue, and he changed his mind about seeking re-election after he was crushed by Donald Trump in the Florida presidential primary. A Senate seat should not be a consolation prize for a failed presidential candidate killing… Read more »
review of above by civilrightsmovement: The brilliant and bombastic former MSNBC anchor sorely needed back at the formerly progressive news network says in his latest video for GQ that the anger felt by Trump supporters is nothing compared to the anger felt by “real Americans, liberals and conservatives driven together in common defense of this nation,” who “have had enough.” Olbermann posits that those Trump supporters feel “excluded from control of a nation their fathers and grandfathers once dominated because they had built the playing field and had not merely tilted it towards themselves but had filled it at the other… Read more »
The latest example for me is the unending noise about Bill Clinton’s seeming slam on the ACA (Obamacare) and the willful misunderstanding of his comments. There was ONE exactly ONE short clip of Pelosi commenting that the amendment that would have fixed the problem by allowing the pooling of small businesses rather than treating them as individuals was killed by the GOP and then nothing other than the negative coverage of Clinton. The GOP did it to protect the Insurance Company profits decreased by allowing pre-existing conditions and loss of life time limits on coverage such a genetic conditions. The Corps… Read more »
the sun will shine, eventually, over the entire sunshine state…this is not over by any means. I am glad to see so many safe and unlike Haiti? The humans of the US of AA are warned, directed and saved by their government. A nod to technology and humans, I am also waiting for the head of trump’s super pac, scott, to get off of the air waves…a fairly debase human. I also noticed yesterday that the repugs shamed Hillary for wanting to advertise on the weather channel (Comcast/Universal). She withdrew the ad buy…trump is already advertising on the weather… Read more »
Now, as some are being liberated from public shelters, I hope they take the time to remove their personal trash and return the spaces they used to the condition in which they found them (or better).
There is nothing more angrifying/discouraging than for building managers to walk into the spaces they made available for others’ safety only to find them trashed. We’ve seen numerous shelters removed from the availability list because of the thoughtless acts of others.
trump and murdock making a killing on the asian markets with the flash crash? this is bigger than complaining about china’s currency manipulation…a flash crash OR billionaires making money by the pound? brexit is a joke on the commoners. assange helped the idiots as he wants out of the embassy, the EU, Sweden. he will do anything putie wants for his freedom. I love most Australians, but the exiled murdoch and assange are just plain old crappy and creepy men. Shame on the green party for sullying their convention with a vid feed from assange. He is guilty of hurting… Read more »
jamie…the only time the repugs become nuanced and pretend to care about human is to seize on the dems and the myriad of faux pas statements made during the election…after election? They roughshod over humans and ignore them by the bin…those compartmental bins of race, gender, uneducated, unhealthy, etc. The way they really see most citizens.
Craig, I trust the reports from your Dad are positive. It’s nice seeing Tony popping his head up, and Sturg bemoaning his fate being stuck in Wrong-Town, Tennessee. I bet if he looks around he can find someone who makes a decent fried bologna sandwich. Thank his lucky stars that he isn’t on his very fragile island.
stay safe, mixers…I know the two party system gets knocked every election cycle, especially in the race for the WH (we all elect the POTUS). Whitehouse.gov is filled with signed petitions asking for the popular vote to take over the electoral college. Over my lifetime? I have seen a few parties try to gain power from the top down…hijack the big job. The green party, the libertarian parties need to takeover at the grassroots level…work like the dems and repugs do, year after year, locally. A analog lifetime of work. To me the two party system, binary, yes or… Read more »
good luck to Georgia, South and North Carolina coastal citizens…about a week ago, I spotted Matthew off the shore of Venezuela…near Aruba. Aruba is famous for its doldrums…calm winds and lack of hurricanes. Once the storm became a hurricane off of the Leewards islands, it developed another eye wall. Although this is usually a sign of weakening storm, the storm gathered strength and moved northward. Next to Florida, another, second eye wall was prevalent. Now as the hurricane heads to the the catcher mitt coastline of the southeast US? A new experience for many. This time, the storm is coming… Read more »

AC is missed though.?
andrew jackson Museum for lolling about in alt Tennessee ambience. The HQ of the 7th Day Adventist Church. There, I’ve run out of points of interest. The hills and hollows outside of town are really lovely. I think that there’s a place where you can dig for diamonds in the vicinity.
“South Carolina Voter Registration has been extended because of the Storm. Further info is available in the usual places.”
flatus, you’re gov is better than tony’s gov who said the unregistered wannabe voters have had enough time to register and so won’t extend the tuesday deadline.
Ahhh X-R Don Peyote The blame for this mess is squarely at the clay feet of the Republican Party. And what tiny little respect I had for John McCain gone. Second I blame the media for not doing their job. Not just this time but pretty much in every election 3rd I blame idiots who don’t don’t believe in anything Trump says but have some petty gripe about Clinton and gave Trump credibility. I don’t blame Trump after all we say anyone can be president and we proved that with Shrub and now we are thinking about someone who… Read more »
Point of interest: you might see Daufuskie Island in the news a bit……it’s the island off Beaufort only accessible by boat…..it was the subject of Pat Conroy’s first book, “The Water is Wide”, which someone turned into a movie called “Conrack”. It’s name derives from Gullah, da fuss key, the first key…….they are currently in harm’s way.
sturge, thanks for the info on the isle. does “key” mean same as “cay” in this case ?
btw, wiki says The Jimmy Buffett song, “Prince Of Tides” (from his 1988 album, Hot Water) laments the urbanization of the island and loss of the Gullah
Hillary Clinton is urging people in the path of Hurricane Matthew to follow evacuation orders and other instructions from federal and state authorities.
In a campaign statement, she’s telling her campaign staff, volunteers and supporters that “nothing is more important” than taking care of “yourselves and your neighbors.”
Clinton said to those impacted by the storm: “Stay safe and know that America is with you.”
craig, breaking news from st. Augustine 🙂 newsday: Stork hides from Hurricane Matthew in zoo bathroom in St. Augustine, Florida ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Humans aren’t the only ones hunkering down as Hurricane Matthew batters Florida. A stork has apparently found refuge in a zoo bathroom. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park has shared a photo of a marabou storkinside a bathroom at the facility. The zoo’s Facebook page jokes in the caption, “no species discrimination in this bathroom!” The stork isn’t the only animal taking cover from the storm. The zoo also shared photos of young alligators swimming indoors in plastic tubs and other birds walking around freely inside a building. The zoo says it has moved all of… Read more »
Post-the Charleston Nine tragic murders, Gov Haley has shown herself to be a compassionate leader who has disassociated herself from the Deplorables (much to their dismay.) During the incredibly bad flooding that we had last October, she marshaled the State’s resources in a credible manner holding agency leaders’ feet to the fire. Her rebuffs of Trumpian overtures has been refreshing. And, her management of pre-disaster planning during this episode is noteworthy.
Watching that little red hurricane ball wibble-wobble up the coast shows me just how tenuous outcomes can be in disaster situations! The last minute wobble away from Cape Canaveral/Titusville was only ten miles but may have made a huge difference in loss of life and property! Of course final inspections of the area have not been done and we still have a dangerous storm surge yet to come. I think the President’s warnings about that say it all. This was on the weather channel site: President Obama also warned of the dangers of storm surge today. “Many of you will remember… Read more »

This reminds me of old John Holliman……..got him on video in charleston for CNN during Hugo.
Grateful Florida escaped major harm. Pray now for Georgia and the Carolinas. And please don’t let this be a lesson to ignore future threats!

If the credit goes to the Gov, then Nikki Haley did ok.
Nikki Haley smarter than Rick Scott hee hee
Trump did not do well in his practice townhall debate he cut it short couldn’t keep his answers short and wouldn’t talk directly to the audience.
She gets A+ from me on the evacuation.
Trump being Trump not such a good thing anymore

Daufuskie Islanders as a rule refuse to evacuate.
If you should want to know Daufuskie any, that movie, with Jon Voight before he became a creep, is a great place to start.

Wonderful St. Augustine in harm’s way right now. Many ancient buildings, our nation’s oldest city.
bet the drumpf isn’t as considerate of his campaign workers. he sure wouldn’t say there’s anything more important than himself let alone them.
