Holy Matthew! Get Out Now!

It’s now more likely than not that Killer Hurricane Matthew (100+ dead already) will directly hit and hug the Southeast Coast from Florida to North Carolina. An alarming number of coastal residents are stupidly ignoring calls to evacuate. This is crazy. If you know anyone in these areas please make sure they are getting out. Graveyards are littered with idiots who thought they could ride out a storm like this. I grew up in Florida and I’ve seen this before. Hurricane force winds and storm surges can erupt to deadly effect in seconds. Do not be duped by calm skies that can change in a heart beat that might be your last.

  1. in the midst of all the bad storm news, a little good news maybe hopefully for the senate races

fivethirtyeight: Senate Update: 6 Really Important Races Are Really Close

The presidential election is sucking up everyone’s attention, but make no mistake: Control of the next United States Senate remains very much in doubt.

Democrats currently have a 57 percent chance of winning a Senate majority according to our polls-plus forecast and a 56 percent chance in polls-only. Those numbers have been fairly consistent since the conventions. In our polls-plus forecast, for instance, Democratic chances have never dropped below 52 percent and have never risen above 73 percent. With the exception of the HuffPost Pollster forecast, most other major forecasts also have Democrats with between about a 55 percent and 70 percent chance of taking the Senate.

  2. Wow, 11 ft storm surge, that’s incredible.. I just heard the Flagler Beach peer is weakening already.. I’m afraid the Flagler Ave beach park in NSB will be destroyed again..

  3. Tony,

Not to worry about Clinton…shes in……..full concentration on the house and senate is in order….she is not going to be let off with the same excuses that Obama had……if she is just an average potus….your ol pay Maureen D and some others….will have something to talk about for years……they need to help the down ticket full time now……..I think with the press now taking a closer look at the Rump ………he will be kept off balance……one thing that she ought to do once in a while tho….is to talks to the Latinos, and the African American, and others…just so they dont feel like they are being taken advantage off…..stay safe all in the danger area…..

  4. To Pat’s earlier question about what happens when the power goes out.  For a lot of people it’s camping and if this is something that happens a lot, people have small generators.  Read the instructions – don’t gas yourself with either your grill or generator.  Most hospitals and emergency center in our area have back-up powerl.

  5. For those fools on the coast in the storm’s direct path who stayed home, they can only go to a room without windows if they have one. It’s too late to be rescued or escape.

  6. Good luck, all you lowlanders ! We’re praying for your well-being. Forget your stuff; it’s only stuff. Just get to the high ground quickly.

  7. The sheriff has asked that those staying on the barrier islands, such as Merritt Island, call in and leave their next of kin information.  He is not kidding.  The storm surge is expected to be worse than reported early in the day.  Anyone staying will be killed due to the size of the storm surge coming up the coast.  It will cover the islands completely and make it to Highway 1.  A1A will be covered if not destroyed.

This is the first hurricane like this to hit Cape Canaveral.  There will be a curfew in place soon.  No one can go anywhere.  And they should not.  Already stuff is falling off the trees in the “light” winds that are slapping mid-Florida.  The spiral arms are coming in and hitting with wind and rain now.

Tomorrow will be really nasty.  This is one heck of a hurricane.

patd – I am in a nice safe place from the storm.  I am working and not with ARC Disaster Services.  ARC Disaster Services does have a request for 550 volunteers to go to Florida as soon as they can get in, probably Monday.

  8. Gov. Rick Scott just said he would deny Clinton campaign request to extend voter reg deadline due to  Hurricane Mathew because “people have already had enough time to register”>

  9. Solar

Lol, hope your correct and she’s a winner.. I hope she is held to a different standard on keeping her promises.. It will only help all of us and her..

He he, Dowdy has plenty to say about Hillary.. From Media Matter’s 72% of her work since 93 has a neg. trope about Hillary.. I think Hillary has been talking to Latinos and AA’s and your correct she should continue too…

  10. Jamie,

Of course he would say that..Creep..  I knew when i saw the Clinton Campaign request to extend registration he would deny them… Anything he can to curtail voting..

  11. Tony…I notice today that Nate Silver has Hillary with. 50.1% chance of winning Iowa.  It is looking really good.  The more Trump talks, the better President Obama and Secretary Clinton look…We cannot get complacent.  H’16

  12. I think the Darwin awards are in full force for potential candidates tonight.  MSNBC has been spending their time interviewing the soon to be deceased – what a macabre use of air time.

BTW – absolutely no coverage of Trumps town hall tonight.  Maybe it’s god’s way of trying to throw the election.

BTW – Rick Scott wins the “Pr$ck of the month” award by refusing to extend the voter registration deadline (currently Tuesday) in Florida.  Turns out the rich Republicans live in Orlando and on the West side of the state – unaffected (or mildly affected) by Matthew.  May that bald headed condom model rot in hell!

But — I’m trying to maintain my level headed bi-partisan attitude here.  Probably not doing well.

  13. Yep Blue Bronc, those who stayed put are screwed. Their only hope is to find high ground or tall buidings, but that’s not much in supply around there. This could be an epic disaster unless this storm changes direction.

  14. To all trail mixers in the path of this storm. Stay safe.

11 foot storm surge?! What the Hell?

  15. IMHO it’s dumb as shit to tempt fate, especially when the storm surge is as high as the highest elevation in your fair town.  GTF OUT!

  16. Sturge, Uncle Andy’s deli.  Introduced me to Reubens. (If it still exists). And there used to be this ramshackle two-story clapboard house about a mile and a half off campus that had a gallon jar of dead Snail Darters (look it up) on the porch. I doubt that it’s still there, but if it was, oh man, what an ugly Haloween night that was. I wuz dressed as the Hunchback of Notre Dame, although I didn’t realize that Quaz was prone to puking his guts out before that night while his girlfriend was rubbing his back and eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
