Terrific News!
This reminds me of old John Holliman……..got him on video in charleston for CNN during Hugo.
Grateful Florida escaped major harm. Pray now for Georgia and the Carolinas. And please don’t let this be a lesson to ignore future threats!
awesome news! pirate queen and her boyfriend just moved to hobe sound (next to jupiter) after 24 hours of pleading, arguing,- she finally left for west coast, but boyfriend stayed behind. am exhausted from it all! spoke with tony- he is in good spirits as always (except when exposed to rabid trump supporters).
Donald Trump Mocks Hillary Clinton’s Debate Prep “she’s resting”

Jacksonville, Savannah, Charleston, Wilmington need our prayers. Matthew not done yet.
boss, not quite a Charlie brown moment. lucy still has the ball on the tee and storm’s still strong at a category 3. reported at 5:30 abc news:
Hurricane Matthew battered the Florida coast with powerful winds, potentially devastating storm surges and torrential rain on Friday, leaving hundreds of thousands without power as those remaining in the storm’s path were ordered to shelter in place.
The western eye wall of Matthew brushed by Cape Canaveral, home of the Kennedy Space Center, producing wind 115 mpg gusts there at around 5:30 a.m. on Friday.
More than 300,000 people were already without power across the state of Florida.
meanwhile, a moment of merriment with Alexandra petri:
Mike Pence loves Big Donald
tampa bay times editorial endorsement:
Florida voters tired of gridlock in Washington have a clear choice for U.S. Senate. Democrat Patrick Murphy of Jupiter has served just two terms in the House, but he is a centrist who is right on the issues and works in a bipartisan fashion. Incumbent Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Miami is on the wrong side of most every issue, and he changed his mind about seeking re-election after he was crushed by Donald Trump in the Florida presidential primary. A Senate seat should not be a consolation prize for a failed presidential candidate killing time until his next run for the White House.
[….]
Rubio has the name recognition, campaign cash and smooth talk. Murphy has the mainstream policy positions and the stronger commitment to representing the best interests of all Floridians. For U.S. Senate, the Tampa Bay Times recommends Patrick Murphy.
For those of us who keep noting a certain amount of missing context, this might explain it.
The Media and Clinton’s Invisible Supporters
Jamie, thanks for that link. 1st commenter suggested we listen to olbermann’s comments last night
review of above by civilrightsmovement:
The brilliant and bombastic former MSNBC anchor sorely needed back at the formerly progressive news network says in his latest video for GQ that the anger felt by Trump supporters is nothing compared to the anger felt by “real Americans, liberals and conservatives driven together in common defense of this nation,” who “have had enough.”
Olbermann posits that those Trump supporters feel “excluded from control of a nation their fathers and grandfathers once dominated because they had built the playing field and had not merely tilted it towards themselves but had filled it at the other end with land mines to disempower the minorities and women.”
“The angry white male Trump voters,” Olbermann righteously declares, “are not alone, they are not a majority, and they are not even angriest.”
“We have had enough,” Olbermann declares, delivering a litany of grievances against Trump, whom he calls the “scum of the earth,” a “fascist who wants to end this democracy,” “Mussolini in makeup,” and a “Thanksgiving Day parade balloon in a suit.”
Olbermann slams the political “has-beens” who have supported Trump, “like Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani and Rush Limbaugh,” and “the collaborators like Kellyanne Conway, Chris Christie, Mike Pence, and Sean Hannity
The former MSNBC “Countdown” anchor takes on many others, by name, slamming “enablers like Joe Scarborough, and Senators Ayotte and McConnell,” and Speaker Paul Ryan.
It’s one of Olbermann’s best for GQ, and a must-watch….
The latest example for me is the unending noise about Bill Clinton’s seeming slam on the ACA (Obamacare) and the willful misunderstanding of his comments.
There was ONE exactly ONE short clip of Pelosi commenting that the amendment that would have fixed the problem by allowing the pooling of small businesses rather than treating them as individuals was killed by the GOP and then nothing other than the negative coverage of Clinton.
The GOP did it to protect the Insurance Company profits decreased by allowing pre-existing conditions and loss of life time limits on coverage such a genetic conditions. The Corps wouldn’t have lost money just taken a hit on the massive percentages. It was one of the prices paid to get the bill at all just like inability to negotiate drug prices. Now they blame the President for the problems they caused.
the sun will shine, eventually, over the entire sunshine state…this is not over by any means. I am glad to see so many safe and unlike Haiti? The humans of the US of AA are warned, directed and saved by their government. A nod to technology and humans, I am also waiting for the head of trump’s super pac, scott, to get off of the air waves…a fairly debase human. I also noticed yesterday that the repugs shamed Hillary for wanting to advertise on the weather channel (Comcast/Universal). She withdrew the ad buy…trump is already advertising on the weather channel here. Last night there were many severe storms in the midwest, but nothing of the duration of Matthew. She should be allowed to advertise wherever she wants to…double standard again, foul.
good news? I doubt if many will watch the townhall live…a format I find rigged and uncomfy. I hope Hillary just gushes over loving on her country…not mention hard work, but efficient work of government. I always doubt that some humans after all if this election time really can’t make-up their minds…I think they are fibbing. : O My advice? Ennie, minnie, mynie, mo.
Now, as some are being liberated from public shelters, I hope they take the time to remove their personal trash and return the spaces they used to the condition in which they found them (or better).
There is nothing more angrifying/discouraging than for building managers to walk into the spaces they made available for others’ safety only to find them trashed. We’ve seen numerous shelters removed from the availability list because of the thoughtless acts of others.
trump and murdock making a killing on the asian markets with the flash crash? this is bigger than complaining about china’s currency manipulation…a flash crash OR billionaires making money by the pound? brexit is a joke on the commoners. assange helped the idiots as he wants out of the embassy, the EU, Sweden. he will do anything putie wants for his freedom. I love most Australians, but the exiled murdoch and assange are just plain old crappy and creepy men. Shame on the green party for sullying their convention with a vid feed from assange. He is guilty of hurting women…especially Chelsea Manning. As I have commented before, all those british noses lapping in the waves of the north sea by all of the Belgium (EU) highrises? A damn shame and they can join the ignorant Colombians who rejected peace while their leader gets the Nobel Peace price. voters beware…the bad men are manipulating more than currency.
Tony, I’m so relieved that you are safe. Now, get to work!
jamie…the only time the repugs become nuanced and pretend to care about human is to seize on the dems and the myriad of faux pas statements made during the election…after election? They roughshod over humans and ignore them by the bin…those compartmental bins of race, gender, uneducated, unhealthy, etc. The way they really see most citizens.
Craig, I trust the reports from your Dad are positive. It’s nice seeing Tony popping his head up, and Sturg bemoaning his fate being stuck in Wrong-Town, Tennessee. I bet if he looks around he can find someone who makes a decent fried bologna sandwich. Thank his lucky stars that he isn’t on his very fragile island.
South Carolina Voter Registration has been extended because of the Storm. Further info is available in the usual places.
stay safe, mixers…I know the two party system gets knocked every election cycle, especially in the race for the WH (we all elect the POTUS). Whitehouse.gov is filled with signed petitions asking for the popular vote to take over the electoral college. Over my lifetime? I have seen a few parties try to gain power from the top down…hijack the big job. The green party, the libertarian parties need to takeover at the grassroots level…work like the dems and repugs do, year after year, locally. A analog lifetime of work. To me the two party system, binary, yes or no, on or off mentality is better for most humans. Multiple choice questions? Give me true or false….the new digital reality. I like a robust two party system…easy choice. The states do deserve their moment in the representative democracy…the republic survives by its individual states and territories. Plus a lazy human like me? Let the states get their primary business done to their rules and let us decide, nationally between the choices offered. I do believe in majority rule…voting for someone who has a chance of winning. I also realize that it is everyone else’s America, too. My hope is that anyone of majority age who wants to vote? They are able to vote and make a choice.
good luck to Georgia, South and North Carolina coastal citizens…about a week ago, I spotted Matthew off the shore of Venezuela…near Aruba. Aruba is famous for its doldrums…calm winds and lack of hurricanes. Once the storm became a hurricane off of the Leewards islands, it developed another eye wall. Although this is usually a sign of weakening storm, the storm gathered strength and moved northward. Next to Florida, another, second eye wall was prevalent. Now as the hurricane heads to the the catcher mitt coastline of the southeast US? A new experience for many. This time, the storm is coming from the south…not the usual east movement of past hurricanes. Hurricane Matthew will be studied for some time…a hard one to predict on past occurrences and pathways of the ‘normal’ cyclone movement.
Flatus
Thanks, all is good. Power lasted throughout the night. Since an hour ago wind is now intense, no power and no Internet…All good, Note 5 Hotspot so Samsung tablet up and running as well. .Can Netflix and Hulu be that far away, he he…Out here by 95 so a bit away from the coastal actoon. AC is missed though.?
andrew jackson Museum for lolling about in alt Tennessee ambience. The HQ of the 7th Day Adventist Church. There, I’ve run out of points of interest. The hills and hollows outside of town are really lovely. I think that there’s a place where you can dig for diamonds in the vicinity.
Tony, Ping, Purple, and the lady whose neighbors are gators,
May you stay dry, healthy, and happy !
The Xrs
Flatus,
We’re wishing you and yours a happy, healthy, storm with no inconveniences.
“South Carolina Voter Registration has been extended because of the Storm. Further info is available in the usual places.”
flatus, you’re gov is better than tony’s gov who said the unregistered wannabe voters have had enough time to register and so won’t extend the tuesday deadline.
If the credit goes to the Gov, then Nikki Haley did ok.
Nikki Haley smarter than Rick Scott hee hee
Trump did not do well in his practice townhall debate he cut it short couldn’t keep his answers short and wouldn’t talk directly to the audience.
She gets A+ from me on the evacuation.
Trump being Trump not such a good thing anymore
A peyote button is the perfect symbol for deadbeat donald. It pops up suddenly after the drought has ended, and it makes those who imbibe hallucinate.
Ahhh X-R Don Peyote
The blame for this mess is squarely at the clay feet of the Republican Party. And what tiny little respect I had for John McCain gone.
Second I blame the media for not doing their job. Not just this time but pretty much in every election
3rd I blame idiots who don’t don’t believe in anything Trump says but have some petty gripe about Clinton and gave Trump credibility.
I don’t blame Trump after all we say anyone can be president and we proved that with Shrub and now we are thinking about someone who would be even worse.
Trump’ running his campaign like he runs his businesses — I wonder if bankruptcy is coming soon and vendors will be stiffed
I am watching weather coverage. I am glad some areas are ok…There still seems to be lots of danger…best wishes…
Gov. Rick Scott is disgusting!!!
Nate Silver has Don down to 20.3% chance of winning!!!
Keep working Hillary supporters. Complacency is our biggest enemy!!!
I can report our Southern Command in Orlando just fine, no harmful effects. Now we gotta worry about Jacksonville, then GA and SC
good news for the Crawford Fla homestead and the other Floridians
Turns out all of Trumps supporters are and most white Republicans are deplorable
538 on the issue http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/how-many-of-trumps-supporters-really-are-deplorable/
Point of interest: you might see Daufuskie Island in the news a bit……it’s the island off Beaufort only accessible by boat…..it was the subject of Pat Conroy’s first book, “The Water is Wide”, which someone turned into a movie called “Conrack”. It’s name derives from Gullah, da fuss key, the first key…….they are currently in harm’s way.
Daufuskie Islanders as a rule refuse to evacuate.
If you should want to know Daufuskie any, that movie, with Jon Voight before he became a creep, is a great place to start.
sturge, thanks for the info on the isle. does “key” mean same as “cay” in this case ?
btw, wiki says The Jimmy Buffett song, “Prince Of Tides” (from his 1988 album, Hot Water) laments the urbanization of the island and loss of the Gullah

HUFFPOLLSTER: Democrats Are Rallying Around Hillary Clinton
A poll finds that the enthusiasm gap between Republicans and Democrats has completely closed.
Wonderful St. Augustine in harm’s way right now. Many ancient buildings, our nation’s oldest city.
bet the drumpf isn’t as considerate of his campaign workers. he sure wouldn’t say there’s anything more important than himself let alone them.
chron:
12:30 p.m.
Hillary Clinton is urging people in the path of Hurricane Matthew to follow evacuation orders and other instructions from federal and state authorities.
In a campaign statement, she’s telling her campaign staff, volunteers and supporters that “nothing is more important” than taking care of “yourselves and your neighbors.”
Clinton said to those impacted by the storm: “Stay safe and know that America is with you.”
craig, breaking news from st. Augustine 🙂
newsday: Stork hides from Hurricane Matthew in zoo bathroom in St. Augustine, Florida
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Humans aren’t the only ones hunkering down as Hurricane Matthew batters Florida. A stork has apparently found refuge in a zoo bathroom.
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park has shared a photo of a marabou storkinside a bathroom at the facility. The zoo’s Facebook page jokes in the caption, “no species discrimination in this bathroom!”
The stork isn’t the only animal taking cover from the storm. The zoo also shared photos of young alligators swimming indoors in plastic tubs and other birds walking around freely inside a building.
The zoo says it has moved all of its birds and mammals inside.
Sturg, SC officials saying at least 100 people stayed on Daufuskie Island. Hurricane martyrs are dumb asses.
Post-the Charleston Nine tragic murders, Gov Haley has shown herself to be a compassionate leader who has disassociated herself from the Deplorables (much to their dismay.) During the incredibly bad flooding that we had last October, she marshaled the State’s resources in a credible manner holding agency leaders’ feet to the fire. Her rebuffs of Trumpian overtures has been refreshing. And, her management of pre-disaster planning during this episode is noteworthy.
Also worried about Fernandina Beach, one of my favorite Florida hamlets.
Latest advisory, Matthew slightly weakening, down to 115 mph, but still dangerous
Watching that little red hurricane ball wibble-wobble up the coast shows me just how tenuous outcomes can be in disaster situations! The last minute wobble away from Cape Canaveral/Titusville was only ten miles but may have made a huge difference in loss of life and property! Of course final inspections of the area have not been done and we still have a dangerous storm surge yet to come. I think the President’s warnings about that say it all. This was on the weather channel site:
Now, pix are coming in from the Daytona/St Augustine/Jacksonville areas and those look much worce! I’m praying for no loss of life in those areas.
I watched local Orlando area stations all morning. Mainly 2, 6 and 9. Finally just stayed on WESH 2 the nbc station. It never ceases to amaze me watching weather reporters telling people to stay in their homes or shelters and not go outside, while they are getting blown to bits and pelted with rain! A few years ago (don’t remember which hurricane it was) I saw a reporter almost hit by some large flying debris. They always look like they could be injured at any moment! Today WESH 2 interviewed the stupidest person in Florida and just kept talking to him even after the reporter acknowledged what a moron he was (for anyone intelligent enough to get his meaning, which the moron wasn’t) then he just kept asking the guy more questions and letting him ramble about how he went out and even though a large tree fell on his car he would do it again! I actually tweeted to the station that it was wrong to let that interview go on so long. It encourages dangerous behavior in people.
Hundreds are dead in Haiti and the Bahamas. So far I’ve only seen one report of a death in Fla…I hope it stays that way!
error: Obama quote was actually on the abc news site!
Daufuskie people fear leaving more than staying.
And of course, it’s not their first rodeo.
We soon shall see.
Well Sturg their ferries are closed and they’re stuck now. I don’t get it. There is no shame in escaping hurricanes, only stupid risk.
Only storm-related death in Florida so far was a woman who didn’t evacuate as ordered, had a heart attack and emergency workers could not help.
I’ll make a liar out of myself, for a moment, but:
Did I watch a different VP than everyone else? All I heard Pence do was evade questions and spout nonsense, like “Christ, Christ, Christian, Christ, faith”. Is the new standard speaking in semi-but-not-actual-complete sentences?
Death toll in Haiti sickening, 500+
Northern FL ain’t out of the woods yet, but the eye is staying offshore and the storm surge is about half what they feared it would be. Biggest issue will prolly be flooding – and there will be a lot of that between NE FL & SC. My hope is that people realize that a lot of water is going to hit the coast from both directions. Get out those hip waders.
Bink, you and I watched the same debate.
Ah, thanks. We’re really in trouble when American evangelicals realize they share the same values as Muslim extremists. Luckily they only read one book, so it will take a while.
Storm surge just topped the sea wall in St. Augustine. We must now count on spirit of Ponce De Leon to protect his discovery.
I hear from a right wing email corespondent, “our tribe doesn’t care about English Only anymore”.
St Augustine is the oldest WHITE town in America. I believe the Hopi, Zuni, Pueblo, Mogollon, and Mandan towns are older.
Matthew down to cat 2, 110 mph
You are correct xrepub, good point
Lucky, Matthew hitting Jacksonville as the St. Johns tide moving east, pushing back storm surge
Ebb tide vs surge must make for big combers.
uh oh
cnn: Trump bragged on hot mic about being able to grope women
The hot mic conversation captured in 2005 begins with Trump recounting to “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush how he tried to have sex with a married woman.
“I moved on her and I failed. I’ll admit it,” Trump says in the newly-released audio. “I did try and fuck her. She was married.”
“I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married,” Trump adds, after saying he took the woman — who is identified only by her first name — out furniture shopping.
“Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony tits and everything. She’s totally changed her look,” Trump says of the woman.
The conversation took place as Trump arrived in a tour bus on the set of “Days of Our Lives,” the soap opera where he was set to make a cameo appearance.
Before Trump stepped off the bus, he and Bush appear to see an actress from the soap opera who greets Trump and Bush.
“Whoa!” Trump says. “I’ve gotta use some tic tacs, just in case I start kissing her. You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.”
“And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything … Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything,” Trump says.
“Whatever you want,” says another voice.
from same cnn link:
The remarks prompted Trump — for the first time in his nearly 16-month campaign — to apologize.
“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course – not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended,” Trump said in a statement released Friday.
october surprise #2
affairs are different from a lifelong of disdain for women and treating them as chattel. trump campaign says, at least he didn’t drug women like bill cosby.
as I have commented after the convention…the divorce papers are already prepared per the pre-nup with Melania. Faux news is celebrating an anniversary and not talking about the latest…tomorrow was to be a big day for the repug hug. Hugging trump? We all have been warned, watch those trump hands.
bink…pence looked like he won, sort-of, if you had the sound-off. If you listen to the guy? Full nixon liar. let us see the love between pence and trump now…again follow the trump hands.
patd, thanks for the update on the wildlife…I read that there are birds stuck in the eye of the hurricane. Faux News finally releasing short sound-bite only from the access hollywood vid and it did not release the entire vid or sound…mentioned that the race is still a toss-up. Read the apology with the emphasis on Bill Clinton. Switched to story that immigrants are rushing into the US of AA to vote. Complete denial at Faux News.
I wish some sports teams would refute the claim that this is locker room talk…dragging down all men.
“I apologize if anyone was offended,” Trump said in a statement released Friday. – cnn via Pat
I think that’s his first apology ever, such as it is.
So at 59 years of age he was still talking like a drunken teenager. 40 years and the arrival of little demi-trumps didn’t bring about any of the normal maturation that occurs between ages 20 and 24. He is one sick puppy. Makes me sick, too.
Too bad this didn’t come out BEFORE the veep ‘debates’.
thx xrep…it makes me appreciate all of the great men on the trail. and thanks for remembering our native Americans…Chaco Canyon 850 AD — right here in New Mexico way before this was New Mexico.
Faux News talking about clowns now…not trump, but creepy clowns showing-up being creepy.
NEW THREAD
This latest revelation could put NV, AZ, TX, IA, MO, MS, OH, GA, SC, and NH in the baby blue column, while turning CO, FL, and NC bright blue.
All this time I thought that a professional uber-Christer like Canuck cruz would be the best ripper candidate for Dems. However, trumpadonis rex is the grifter who keeps on giving.
