Security cam view of our front porch this morning. Looks like about 5 inches or more

Housekeeping: Our image uploader for comments is out of date and the plugin author is no longer updating it. Seems to be getting cranky, taking longer to post, and sometimes doesn’t work at all on my phone. Bear with me as I try out others — if I can find any, plugins like this  for enhancing commenter experience are not easy to find.

Poobah that’s about what we got, on top of the 3” that was still around from Thursday/Friday. Luckily the snow blower started yesterday so my aching back will ache less than it would have. It’s not self propelled but it beats shit out of a snow shovel. We still have 3-5” coming over the next 12 hours, so it’s still a significant snow event, but we are just north of the ice/snow line, 20 miles north of that line, so we dodged that bullet.

patd, so how’d you fare over in KY?  Looked like a lot of ice over there.

PatD, hope we don’t have to miss you for long. What, you’re gonna make me do some work for a change?

This new image uploader also has issues, might have to go back to the other one. Have only found these two plugins that allow attachments with comments, and both are outdated, not being updated by their authors. This is a recurring issue with WordPress. Most host tools for comments are about moderating or restricting comments. So few are built to enhance the commenting experience, like user editing (thankfully the one I’m using for that is routinely updated with latest WordPress version). Wish I knew code or I would write some myself.

It looks like January out there, cold with about an inch of snow. The first real cold weather we have had this winter. It has been abnormally warm.
Need to think warm thoughts?

Craig… I would love to post today’s meme…  but apparently I can’t.
I know… I’m on a Mac and that’s probably the problem.

RR, I can see your meme no prob. Will try this plugin today but think I’ll switch back to the old one in the morning. This one is messing with the header and footer placement in ways i can’t resolve. I don’t understood why apparently there are not enough wordpress hosts who want more features like this for commenters. Most tools are only about giving the host more control and options.

Freezing rain, then sleet, then snow, and now the deep freeze sets in.  Even Mother Nature is upset about the orange insurrectionist being certified as…what…dictator on day one, I guess.
Toads are closed, but I’m sure my unhoused car is encased in ice.  Trying to keep the birds and squirrels fed, but can’t help them with cold weather.
This stuff won’t melt for a week, so I won’t be going beyond the front porch or back deck to scatter seeds and nuts.
Keep warm & safe, y’all.

RebelliousRenee

Craig…  I can see it too.

bId….   don’t mess with ice.  Before we built our garage, we would unfreeze our car door handles by pouring hot water on them.  But it doesn’t matter if you have front wheel drive or 4-wheel drive… it will not handle ice.  Stay safe everyone…

More Housekeeping: I am studying a well-reviewed new commenting system that integrates the features we like (editing, image uplodaing) into one plugin instead of the hodgepodge collection i’ve put together over the years, which are getting outdated and someday might not work at all. Here is a demo page if anyone would like to take a look (NOTE: I will be able to disable like/dislike buttons, — we’ve been down that road before and no one liked it).

Check it out at:

And for something different Canadian Justin Trudeau resigns.  Although it seems sudden, the undercurrent has been in place since sfb browbeat him a while ago. The announcement was leaked last night on twit, but not broken through embargo on media sites until this morning.  It is hard to find a site to link to considering how few are left that are not sucking up to hind teet sfb.

Cold days like today let you know you are alive!
Now that I’m retired and have no where I need to be and nothing that needs to be done, I love them.
But I still remember the times back on the farm, Getting the balky tractor started so I could feed the cows, chopping Ice so they could get a drink. Ah life in the country. I really don’t miss it.
Today I put a chicken back in the pot for chicken and noodles.
I’m warm, life is good.

My county borders both Michigan and Indiana, the only county in Ohio being spared this storm.
Four years ago, my wife battled Covid19 long enough to see Joe inaugurated, then died that night.
Today, my 15 1/2 year old Black Labrador Pogo lived long enough to see the dawn of a civil January 6, then lost her life due to old age.

No worries you about what you see here. I am experimenting with a new commenting system, can go back to what we had if we don’t like it. This one has more features all in one plugin that is kept up to date. Testing image upload (button on the bottom right in comment box).

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/06/business/biden-offshore-drilling-ban-trump/index.html

“President Joe Biden on Monday announced an executive action that will permanently ban future offshore oil and gas development in parts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in a way that could be especially difficult for the incoming Trump administration to undo.”

I hope POTUS Joe has a lot of surprises up his sleeve as the days of democracy tick down.

Yes Ivy, I’ve been tinkering today. New Year and all. We’ll try this and see if we like it. Input welcome. By the way. The green bubble that floats on the left side is there so you can click it to add a comment wherever you are on the page, don’t have to have the comment box in front of you.

https://gothamist.com/news/mad-about-congestion-pricing-maybe-point-lasers-at-the-cameras-queens-lawmaker-says

“City Councilmember Vickie Paladino, a Republican who represents parts of northeast Queens, wrote on X that “a high-powered green laser pointer like the ones you find on eBay for under $30 can destroy a camera sensor.”

“So if you buy one of these lasers, be sure to NOT point them at any cameras, because they could be permanently damaged!” she added.

“When another user on the platform asked if the laser pointers could “take care” of the MTA’s congestion pricing toll readers, Paladino replied with multiple thinking-face emojis. She also shared a video of a vigilante group damaging license plate readers in London, where a network of cameras charges drivers in the city’s “ultra-low emissions zone,” or ULEZ, for vehicles that do not meet emissions standards.”

“Congestion pricing and ULEZ was the breaking point for these Englishmen,” Paladino wrote. “And it would be foolish to believe the same won’t happen here in due time. A sawzall, spray paint, or butane torch is all it takes.”

*Folks identifying as Republican all seem to be chaos monsters. So much for fiscal conservatism.

https://www.foxnews.com/world/trump-reacts-trudeau-resignation-many-people-canada-love-being-51st-state

“President-elect Trump on Monday reiterated his suggestion that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, just hours after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his plan to resign.”

“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!” he added.
