one idea being proffered is for Joe to issue a broad pardon to protect everybody under DOTUS-elect’s threat.  Only trouble in the jan 6 special comm case such a pardon won’t protect them from new investigative committees being formed by congress to torture or at least inconvenience their former colleagues with hours of hearings and blusterings.

Donald Trump has been increasingly explicit about pursuing his “enemies list,” including potentially abusing power to target businesses or media he views as critical. MSNBC’s Ari Melber reports on President Biden’s potential plan to issue preemptive pardons. verrry interesting… stay tuned for crazed tweet from you know who responding to this

Zelenskyy: No world leader has the right to negotiate with Putin on behalf of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that no country or world leader has the right to negotiate with Russia on behalf of Ukraine. He noted that any dialogue with the Kremlin must be held according to an agreed action plan and only from a position of strength.
Source: Zelenskyy speaking during a video conferencing session with Le Parisien readers about the results of talks with Trump in Paris; Ukrinform
Details: Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine determines its own future, and no other nation or political leader has the right to dictate terms.
Quote from Zelenskyy: “I insist that no leader in the world has the right to negotiate with Putin on behalf of Ukraine. We have never delegated this mandate to anyone. We are the victims. It would be unfair if everyone started saying how the country should live. The French people in France, Italians in Italy or Americans in the United States know what they want for themselves. So do Ukrainians.”
More details: The president also outlined the importance of creating a peace plan to ensure fair conditions for any dialogue with the Russian side. He stressed that peace could be achieved only when Ukraine is strong enough and has guarantees of support from international partners.
Quote from Zelenskyy: “It’s not about the person in front of you. What matters is the state you are in during the negotiations. I don’t think we are in a weak position, but we are not in a strong position either. Are we in NATO? We don’t know. Will we be part of the European Union? Yes, in the future, but when? To sit down with Putin under such conditions would mean giving him the right to decide everything in our part of the world. First, we need to create a model, an action plan or a peace plan, whatever you want to call it. Then we can present it to Putin or, more broadly, to Russians.”
More details: The president emphasised that Ukraine determines its own future, and no other nation or political leader has the right to dictate terms. Zelenskyy says that the current situation requires a clear strategy that guarantees the security of Ukrainians and long-term stability.
Quote from Zelenskyy: “Who can guarantee that Putin will not return to Ukraine [after a ceasefire is established]? What country will help us with its aircraft and troops? All we have now are bilateral guarantees from our partners regarding military and financial support. But if Putin comes back with his millions of people, will we be defending ourselves again? Or will we watch our women and children die? This is not an issue of joining NATO, this is an issue of ensuring our security.”
Background: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a video conference with Le Parisien readers that US President-elect Donald Trump is aware of Ukraine’s reluctance to surrender and freeze the war.

The question Id like to see Rohan’s incels answer is: Should Luigi Mangione be charged with terrorism?
Reminder:  Orange Adolf’s followers who stormed the Capitol and tried to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power were not charged with domestic terrorism.

https://harvardlawreview.org/print/vol-136/responding-to-domestic-terrorism-a-crisis-of-legitimacy/

I say no; this is a bogus charge against Mangione,  meant to send a message to protect the status quo. It was murder, not terrorism.

ps – Will pardons mean anything in a post-constitutional country?   It will be up to other nations to circle their wagons against the tRUMPsky crime mob, protect themselves against the next administration, help each other, and hope we can have a fair election in four years to oust the grifter and his oligarchs.

Orange Adolf broke his oath of office last time.  Shouldn’t he be prohibited from ever doing so, again.   MAGAts will turn on Vance when they feel PROJECT 2025 destroying their lives.  Adolf would somehow get them to believe anything bad is from the previous administration.

January 29, 2025: Lunar New Year, the year of the snake.  Yep, I think eight-and-a-half days in should be about when MAGAts wake up to the reality of what they’ve done.   What will woke MAGAts do?  Probably blame Dems for not warning them.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/18/politics/matt-gaetz-ethics-report-committee/index.html

“The House Ethics Committee secretly voted earlier this month to release its report into the conduct of former Rep. Matt Gaetz before the end of this Congress, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter.”

“The report is now expected to be made public after the House’s final day of votes this year as lawmakers leave Washington for the holidays, those sources said.”

“The vote, which has not previously been reported, amounts to a stark reversal for the panel after it had voted along party lines in late November not to release the results of the investigation. The decision to release the report suggests that some Republicans ultimately decided to side with Democrats on the matter, and it is unclear if the committee will once again change course now that it has voted.”

EIghteen to thirty year old people have seen the damage to their families or friends families from the failure of the health care payment system, it is not insurance anymore.  They have seen or heard about the deaths of school children across this country.  Their views are a result or reaction to their personal world, not some imaginary world.   Are they going to go sniping CEO’s? Or billionaires? I do not know.  They do know about copy-cat school shooters.

Isn’t every member of the military sworn to uphold the US Constitution, and fight against enemies foreign and domestic?  Yeah, but they probably care more about Joe Rogan than democracy.

I used to take a vacation day to watch the inauguration. I’m turning off the TV at 11:59 EST, if I watch at all.

Craig, I would be interested also to learn what was the thinking of any who survived after Hitler and his cronies destroyed them along with their country. In the end, Hitler declared his people unworthy of him.

Hah! I went to the Bahamas 42 years ago, and while their speech certainly wasn’t just like the gibberish I spoke, it wsa identifiably English.  It will be interesting to see what they can make of the indecipherable bullshit that comes out of Herschel’s mouth.  Does Google have an Indecipherable Bullshit-Bahamian English translation feature?

pogo, where do you stand on the Trail’s or any of us individual mixers’ ability to defend ourselves if need be against one of DOTUS-elect’s defam suits by contending we are shielded quasi journalists so to speak
[not that there’s much likelihood since he’s mostly out for the deep-pocketed or celebrity sort]?.

here’s an excerpt from Blogging | The First Amendment Encyclopedia put out by the free speech center at MTSU in 2024:

Just like any mode of communication, blogs implicate many First Amendment issues. Some of the more common ones are whether bloggers who gather and report news are, for the purpose of shield laws, journalists; whether bloggers who post anonymous messages that other claim are defamatory should be able to hide their identity; whether public employees who blog can be disciplined by their employer consistent with the First Amendment; whether bloggers are subject or should be subject to campaign finance laws; and whether school officials violate the First Amendment when they punish students for the content of their blogs created off campus.
In 2007 the issue of bloggers as journalists surfaced in Congress as members of both houses considered a proposed federal shield law, the Free Flow of Information Act. Those who support bloggers contend that any blogger who engages in journalistic functions should be treated the same as writers in the print and broadcast world. Others contend that, unlike the established media, bloggers do not have built-in guards to ensure accuracy and thus are more likely to engage in a reckless disregard for the truth. On their face, some existing state shield laws seem to apply only to the established media.
[…]
Another major issue is what standard a court would impose on a defamation plaintiff to unmask a blogging flamethrower. Defamation plaintiffs do have a right to seek redress and restore their reputations, but, as the U.S. Supreme Court noted in Talley v. California (1960),  “Anonymous pamphlets, leaflets, brochures and even books have played an important role in the progress of mankind.” In McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission (1995), the Court observed that “anonymous speech is not a pernicious, fraudulent practice, but an honorable tradition of advocacy and dissent.”
A decade later, in Doe v. Cahill (Del. 2005), the Delaware Supreme Court addressed this issue in the context of a defamation suit filed by a town council official and his wife against an anonymous blogger known only as “Proud Citizen.” The Delaware high court ruled that a defamation plaintiff can obtain a court order forcing the unmasking of an anonymous blogger only if the plaintiff meets a summary judgment standard — that is, the plaintiff can show that he or she can meet the essential elements of a libel claim.
The court explained that “before a defamation plaintiff can obtain the identity of an anonymous defendant through the compulsory discovery process he must support his defamation claim with facts sufficient to defeat a summary judgment motion.”

patd, never saw a case regarding quasi-journalists.  I think we’d be stuck with a 1st amendment free speech defense, oh, and our attorneys would need to take the position that he could not meet his burden to on each element of defamation – the statement was false, communicated to a third party, and caused harm to the victim’s reputation.
The 1st and last elements would be a problem for Dumbass. Most bad shit I see or hear about him is true or has an element of truth to it, and reputation? How could anything we say harm what little reputation he has?

Question becomes how much truth can you afford to defend?

https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/18/media/elon-musk-government-spending-bill-doge/index.html

“In a flurry of posts Wednesday on his social media platform X, Elon Musk derided a Republican-backed government spending bill that if not passed by Friday night would lead to a government shut down.

“This bill should not pass,” Musk posted…
“Ever seen a bigger piece of pork?” Musk posted alongside a photo of a printed copy of the bill, known as a continuing resolution.
In more than two dozen posts, Musk assailed the bill on various points, calling it “criminal” for including funding for the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, an agency tasked with fighting foreign propaganda and misinformation, which Musk called a “censorship operation.”

Musk, the world’s richest person, also derided a pay increase for members of Congress in the bill, pinning the post to the top of his X profile. Musk also appeared to issue an electoral threat to members of Congress who vote for the bill, writing “Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!” He also urged his followers to call their representatives to “stop the steal of your tax dollars.”

F U Russian warship!  This is exactly what Putin wants; a class war that will tear our country apart…and all of the ~geniuses~ like Musk are doing his bidding.

As if Elon gives a shit about the US. If he’s any kind of student of electoral trends, that razor thin Republican house margin won’t be around after the 2026 midterms, and the Senate could very well flip with 13 Dems, 20 repubs,  2 indies and one (J Douche’s vacant seat) to be contested, although if those fall along the lines of Dumbass’ wins the repubs could pickup one seat. (2 dems in states trump won and one repub in a state Harris won).

So Elon and Dumbass got the House to kill the spending bill.  Happy fucking Christmas to all.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tariffs-trump-us-canada-doug-ford-ontario/

“Ontario premier says Canada could cut U.S. energy supplies in retaliation for Trump tariffs”

“We will go to the full extent depending how far this goes. We will go to the extent of cutting off their energy, going down to Michigan, going down to New York State and over to Wisconsin,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said during a press conference following a virtual meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other provincial premiers to discuss Trump’s tariff threat. “I don’t want this to happen, but my No. 1 job is to protect Ontario, Ontarians and Canadians as a whole since we’re the largest province.”

If enough folks start whispering in Orange Adolf’s ear that Musk is actually in charge, he will be gone.  Adolf’s ego is bigger than Elon’s government-subsidized bank account.
