1984 was an astonishingly prolific year in Prince’s career. Just months before releasing his watershed soundtrack and film, Purple Rain, Prince was deep into preparations for his massive Purple Rain Tour while also writing and recording nearly a song a day for proteges like Sheila E., The Time, and The Family. One of those singles, “Manic Monday,” would become a breakout hit for the Bangles. Their version of the song skyrocketed to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985, just behind Prince’s number 1 hit “Kiss.”

This week: Democrats confront gridlock over Biden spending plan | TheHill

Democrats are trying to break through weeks of gridlock over President Biden’s sweeping social spending plan, as they inch closer to an end-of-month deadline to get a two-part infrastructure package to his desk.

The Senate will return from its one-week break on Monday, while the House will return from a two-week break, which they interrupted for one day last week, on Tuesday.

Back in my NH winter/ME summer days, I’d go to and fro between the two on Rte 25 (ME 160) between Portland ME and Plymouth NH.  There’s a lot of water along that route in the form of streams, pond, lakes, etc., including Squam Lake – filming location of On Golden Pond.   Well, there’s this one pond near Effingham NH that was well known for moose grazing on the water weeds in it – and tourists would stop, get out of their cars and walk to the water’s edge to take pictures of the moose doing their grazing schtick.  Never heard of anyone being charged by one, but I was told by friends from moose country that one thing you do not want to do is put yourself in a position to be charged by a moose. Youtube says don’t fuck with the moose.

Yeah…  we’ve had our share of those magnificent creatures in our yard.  It always amazes me at how quickly an animal that large can disappear into a forest.

Pogo… I read somewhere a few years ago that more people are killed by being stomped on by a moose in Alaska than by polar bears.

And I remember hiking into a local pond about 20 yrs ago and all of a sudden there’s this huge bull moose.  Rick and I quickly got a big tree between it and us.  We knew the moose was aware of us…  but we didn’t dare move until it moved on.

Renee, I hear you.  I saw a stat a while ago that moose attacks on humans are more frequent yearly than black and brown bear attacks combined but that moose attacks are seldom fatal.  I guess they just are telling you to leave them the hell alone.  I recall the first time I saw a moose in the wild (at the pond I mentioned on Rte. 25) and thinking that I was naive to think they somehow resembled deer.  More like a horse with big ass antlers.

Here, have another serving of “crazy” –

Christopher Steele said the infamous Trump pee tape ‘probably exists’ but Russia hasn’t needed to release it yet

Christopher Steele said an obscene video, described in a dossier he compiled, ‘probably exists.’
He speculated that it remains unseen, despite intense interest, because Russia had no need to show it.
Steele said that Russia got “pretty good value” from the Trump presidency without blackmailing him.

On  the bus from the musical “Come From Away”

Climb aboard!

Hop right in, me ducky.

Let’s get you where you’re going.

You’ve all seen the airport
It used to be the biggest airport in North America
Planes used to stop here to gas up from everywhere

Ooh! Frank Sinatra, Albert Einstein

Muhammed Ali

The Queen

Then they invented jet planes that can get across the ocean on one tank

So there’s no need to refuel anymore.

Leaving us with this giant airport!

Now there’s the reason I drive slow

That there in the middle of the road?

Ya. That’s a moose

She’ll move when she’s good and ready

Colin Powell multiple myeloma: Treated for blood cancer for years | kvue.com

[…]
Multiple myeloma impairs the body’s ability to fight infection, and studies have shown that those cancer patients don’t get as much protection from the COVID-19 vaccines as healthier people.
What is multiple myeloma?
According to the Mayo Clinic, “cancerous plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd out healthy blood cells.”
“Rather than produce helpful antibodies, the cancer cells produce abnormal proteins that can cause complications,” the Mayo Clinic explains on its website.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation notes that this particular form of cancer is twice as common in the Black community compared to other groups and is twice as deadly in Black patients compared to white patients.
When a person has cancer they are at a higher risk for having severe illness from COVID-19, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

True enough, Poobah.  By Republican standards he was too honest by a bunch.  By Democratic standards he helped lie us into a war. Multiple myeloma is a bitch of a cancer.  Wouldn’t have wished that on him.

the guardian:

[…]

Two years later, out of government, Powell described the speech as “a blot” on his career.

“I’m the one who presented it on behalf of the United States to the world, and [it] will always be a part of my record,” Powell told ABC News. “It was painful. It’s painful now.”

[…]

Powell was exploited by the Bush White House for his credibility among the world’s diplomats and his reputation for caution, and he was comprehensively misled. He was told for example that his speech had been prepared by the national security council under Condoleezza Rice, but it was actually written by Vice-President Dick Cheney’s office, which had led the charge in browbeating CIA analysts into coming up with evidence and when that failed, going around the CIA altogether.

Powell had only four days to prepare the speech, but walking into the security council chamber, he said he felt confident. The main claims about biological warfare vans and chemical weapons had been in the president’s State of the Union speech, and he had the CIA sift through the text throwing out “a lot of stuff that was not double- and triple-sourced”. He made the director of central intelligence, George Tenet, sit behind him, in line of sight of the cameras, when he sat before the council.

It was only a few weeks later that the CIA admitted the main pillars of his case were “falling apart”.

“There were some people in the intelligence community who knew at that time that some of these sources were not good, and shouldn’t be relied upon, and they didn’t speak up. That devastated me,” Powell said in his 2005 ABC interview.

Powell –
Cheney and Rump used him no doubt .  He had cred they never had, as for quitting at the time I thought he still clung to the idea he could shape the out come. And those two had always been his bosses, that sticks to a military man.
His speeches … he and Mrs. Powell have foundation that works to encourage people to serve something greater than themselves.  I gotta think  some of those fees fed that kitty.

Poor Joe, and Haiti  just can’t get a break-
Haiti finally goes down the toilet.
That kidnapping story sends a big F@ck You to America.
My ears are ringing now as Fox and friends whip the Bible thumpers to a frenzy.
I haven’t dove into that one yet.  But I was wondering about the children in it . Are they American kids or local children ?

That paint story  has a PHD student name Joe.
“My PHD research  was literally watching paint dry”
That time at 940 Pearl St in Boulder let me read most of the books in the Whole Earth Catalog.  Selling books in the catalog was our bread and butter.
I came across Steve Bare ,  a true genius .
He said future generations would curse us for burning fossil fuels in  low grade heat engines.  He argued that these molecules were far more valuable in making materials from them . At the time Climate Change wasn’t even on the radar.
As the paint story points out  so clearly , it’s materials research that is going to pull our fat out of fire.
That is if we all don’t shoot each other in the head at the mall fighting over Christmas toys.  And switch to eating insect protein.

Once again look to the Democratic women –

Dems find their anti-Rubio warrior in Val Demings
The Florida congresswoman is amassing an army of small donors.

While new to Florida Democrats, the concept of the small-dollar, grassroots-fueled campaign was turbocharged by South Carolina Democrat Jaime Harrison, who raised more than $100 million in 2020 but lost to incumbent GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham in the red state.
By taking on a Republican loathed by Democrats, Harrison was able to nationalize the race by encouraging what’s called “fund-raging” from liberals. His charisma — and the history-making nature of his candidacy as a Black Democrat seeking to unseat a Deep South Republican — also powered his fundraising juggernaut. He’s now the chair of the Democratic National Committee and is advising Demings.

OK kids, time for a real world Covid story. Mrs. P went to the clerk’s office this afternoon to deliver a couple of documents for filing. So she runs into this lady who she hasn’t seen for a while who works there. Mrs. P tells her she hadn’t seen her for a while and wondered if she had gotten sick or something so she proceeds to tell her the story about the fact that she, her husband and her daughter had all contracted Covid. She said she didn’t have such a bad time of it, but her husband definitely did. And her daughter, who was pregnant, had a hard time and lost the baby. The daughter and husband think they’ll get vaccinated but she’s not. She’s sitting in the clerks office with no mask on and saying she’d read this and that about antibodies and blah de blah and more bullshit. She almost lost her husband, did lose her grandchild and still listens to the horse shit on Faux, OAN and the rest of the big lie universe. Dumbasses are all around me in East Bumfuck.

Give him a carrot, he’s upset about a stick.
Give him a huge lab on top of one those mountains  they cut off to develop other uses for coal .  Give them a wind turbine school on another top of those mountains.  Give him money to  put Turbines   on the tops of all the other ones they chopped the top off.

As for that fruit loop in Arizona,  set her down and explain , they are going to be begging for water .  And they are going to need real help.

If there is one great sin the Climate  researchers made is using words like –
May, could, and might .  When talking about the future.  The news always passed that uncertainty along.
They did it to protect their asses .
Well they were wrong ,  that little village  in BC  proved how wrong they were in June .
Over 4 days they went from 116 F to 118 F to 121 F , the next day the village burnt down.
This stuff is here  , and May, could, and might . Is as dead as General Grant.
