Bidens Matter? Beats Me….OK, No

Aaron Blake, Wapo, tries to review the arguments about why the Bidens matter to the impeachment trial fo Donald J. SFB Trump.

President Trump’s legal team set about making his impeachment trial about the Bidens on Monday, with former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi offering an extensive case for why Trump’s interest in the investigation was legitimate.

Trump’s Senate allies had in recent days been advising the defense team to hone in on the Bidens and Burisma Holdings, the company that employed Hunter Biden.

“I told them, look, nothing matters more than the facts on Burisma,” Sen. Cruz (R-Tex.) told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Friday, adding: “They built their entire case on this house of cards. Lay out substantive, factual reasons why investigating Burisma — the president had a responsibility to do so.”

Their argument would be that Trump’s concerns about the Bidens and Burisma were legitimate, and so would have been his efforts to secure an investigation into them.

***

The article continues and fails to answer the question IMHO. Maybe you can.

Or maybe that will be subject of the what, 8 hours of question for each side? God knows someone needs to tell me why the Bidens matter in this trial.

pogo, in the bizarro world of IMpotus, alternative facts matter and, in fact, are the only facts that can factually be considered facts.

from George Conway’s op ed in wapo:

Trump’s own lawyers have framed the removal question as turning on proof of the president’s true motives. Well, here’s a witness who can tell us what the president, in a face-to-face conversation, said he wanted.
Trump’s lawyers complain that no witness talked to Trump about the linkage between the aid and the investigation. Well, here’s Bolton, ready, willing, and able to testify.

Pogo…   Biden matters in that trumpty dumpty is showing how afraid he is of him.  Because of this, I’ve decided to vote for him in the NH primary.  A good friend left for Florida last week and voted absentee…  she told me she voted for Biden for the same reason.  We can’t be the only 2 that feel this way.

Biden won’t even be the nominee.   Trump has picked the wrong windmill to poke.    How do GOP Senators feel about Joe?   Any long-held grudges against him?   At any rate, this trial is about Trumpsky’s wrongdoing.   If it’s discovered that others committed crimes, well, then go through the proper motions to bring them to trial. It would not let Donald John Trump off of the hook for committing treason.

Yes, i can explain the Bidens’ relation to impeachment and why and how Trump wanted to use his office to impugn their name, thanks to the well-presented case by the Democratic House impeachment managers.

Unfortunately, after speaking some people, i worry the whole issue is over the heads of most Americans.

now that Joni Ernst has made Iowa a referendum on the claims about Biden, wonder if that might actually get him more votes

Rachel artfully slipped a stealthy stiletto into the peachment proceedings by  praising several or more gop members of Congress who were pressing the White House to release the aid package to our ally Ukraine, and wtf’’s all around.  Said senators and reps were apparently at the time unaware of the main game.

pogo, your senator quoted by CNN:

During an interview with MSNBC earlier Wednesday, Manchin, who represents West Virginia, was asked if he viewed Hunter Biden as a relevant witness.
“You know, I think so. I really do,” he replied. “I don’t have a problem there, because this is why we are where we are. Now, I think that he could clear himself, of what I know and what I’ve heard.
“But being afraid to put anybody that might have pertinent information is wrong no matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican,” Manchin said.

Watching these prayers at start of Senate sessions I can’t help pointing out James Madison opposed the hiring of chaplains in Congress in violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, saying the clergy in Congress was an offense “to members whose creeds and consciences forbid a participation in the majority.”

Pat Philbin is so full of bunk- this isn’t a criminal trial, and he’s a liar to assert that it is.

Dershowitz conceded as much when he discussed the valid use of impeachment due to incapacity. Duh.

lol, Dersh claims he isn’t pro-Trump but mentions Middle East peace process (as if it’s been achieved) before anything else that comes out of his mouth.

craigcrawford

Only a fraud like Dershowitz who defends criminals for a living could say: “Every public official believes his election is in the public interest…. And if a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest” it’s not impeachable.

And Dershowitz wonders why no one on the Vineyard will invite him to their parties.

There was a movie with Travolta and Dustin Hoffman, something about a bank heist gone wrong with hostages.   Those faces Travolta kept making the whole movie were hilarious.  It’s the kind of face that seems to come in handy when talking to republicans.

How does the same frigging guy (Pat Philbin) say the process is rushed but also taking too long?   WwwwwTttttFffff

Trump lawyer Philbin says more witnesses prevents “this chamber from getting other business done.” What, like continuing to ignore the 500+ bills the House has sent to them?

lol i love Pat Philbin’s appeal to the Senators’ laziness:

”You’ll have to do work- is that really what  you want???”

xrepublican

It may be that most of Dershowitz’s money came from defending criminals, but most of that has come from fakes nooz. Most of his actual work has been teaching and civil rights cases.

Nice try Mr. Trump lawyer Philbin arguing Bolton’s conversations privileged. Too bad your dumb ass client has repeatedly tweeted about those conversations, waiving executive privilege.

philbin is my pick for the goofiest dope on the defense team. It’s easy to see why Mueller fired him. He hasn’t considered the meanings or ramifications of the words and phrases he spouts. What’s not so easy to see is how such a thoughtless fellow got on Mueller’s team to begin with.

Ok, sure, Obama should have been impeached.  The GOP-controlled House failed to do so.  Their laziness doesn’t excuse Trump’s misconduct.
