2020 Electorate Takes Shape

Pew Research: “It’s already clear that the 2020 electorate will be unique in several ways. Nonwhites will account for a third of eligible voters – their largest share ever – driven by long-term increases among certain groups, especially Hispanics. At the same time, one-in-ten eligible voters will be members of Generation Z, the Americans who will be between the ages 18 and 23 next year. That will occur as Millennials and all other older generations account for a smaller share of eligible voters than they did in 2016.”

US kills Iran’s most powerful general in Baghdad strike

The strike also killed the deputy commander of Iran-backed militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces

    […]

The airport strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iran-backed militias in Iraq known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, and five others, including the PMF’s airport protocol officer, Mohammed Reda, Iraqi officials said.

BASRA, Iraq — Dozens of U.S. citizens working for foreign oil companies in the southern Iraqi oil city of Basra were preparing to leave the country on Friday, Iraq’s Oil Ministry said after a U.S. air strike killed a top Iranian commander in Iraq.

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad urged all citizens to depart from Iraq immediately, hours after the U.S. killed Iranian Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in an air strike.

Iraqi officials said the evacuation would not affect operations, production or exports.

Company sources told Reuters earlier the workers were expected to fly out of the country.

Oil production from Iraq, the second biggest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, was about 4.62 million barrels per day (bpd), according to a Reuters survey of OPEC output.

A spokesman for BP, which operates the giant Rumaila oil field near Basra, declined to comment. Rumaila produced around 1.5 million bpd as recently as April.

Genel, an oil producer in the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq, said its operations were continuing normally. It did not comment on any staff movements.

Gulf Keystone Petroleum, which also operates in Kurdistan, declined to comment. DNO did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

  3. XR, I am aware of the cyber threats out there – Mrs. P was a victim of the experian breach in 2017. I don’t know whether Lifelock is effective or worth the cost, but I know it costs 3 times as much as the top 2 products as rated by identityprotection.com (4 1/2 times the top product with the current discount offer).  And I know that Angie didn’t tell me about Lifelock. She told me about cyber threats.  It was me laughing at celebrity spokespeople, even pretty ones. And I don’t insure through Geico – even though he’s a cute lizard.

btw, SFB is doing EXACTLY what he predicted in 2011 what Obama would (and didn’t) do to get re-elected in 2012, and is not doing EXACTLY what he said Obama was incapable of doing – negotiating with Iran (which Obama did and SFB reversed). Catch a drift here?

  4. Whelp, it was nice knowing all y’all.
Russia is weighing in on this, too.   Suck it, Pooh-tin.
Well, Iran (Russia’s other little bitch) has to be stopped.   So, crude is up and the markets will go kurplunk.  The Saudi devil’s oil fields were attacked by Iran.
Hmmm,  maybe we should adopt clean energy policies and become energy independent.
Maybe the rest of the Western world should do the same and leave them all to rot.

  5. The upcoming primaries have me totally bummed.  I started going that direction as all that media that produces seem to decide that only the top four candidates whose names they knew had the right to be covered since they could only count to four.   As one of those four happened to be the elderly finger waving bastard who infected the 2016 campaign.

By the time this gets to WA, I’ll probably be stuck with Biden even though I don’t think he is the most qualified to be President, but simply because the ones who are have been uncovered or lack financed and are off the ballot and the ones left aren’t worth the effort.  At some point you start to wonder if you actually have a vote worth casting.

  6. Craig….  yeah….   but…   older Americans (boomers) show up to vote.  The younger generations… not so much.  Unless that changes, it doesn’t matter how many more young people there are in this country.

I saw both Castro and Booker last night bemoaning the fact that there would be no people of color on the debate stage this month.  Well….  there are 2 women… and one gay guy.  If the candidates of color couldn’t generate enough individual donors and percentage points in the polls to qualify….  then so be it.  I like the that the Democratic Party wants a candidate to emerge early….  he/she will need all the time they can get to go up against SFB,IMO.

  7. Ya know, I can’t find much to disagree with the attack on the Revolutionary Guard general. We have been in a low-level war in Iraq with the Iranian. It is nice to see one of the big boys get hit rather than the lowly foot soldiers/civilians. The Revolutionary guard is a bit of a rogue player in the area too.
So congratulations to our intelligence and security forces for a well executed plan.
    Jack

  8. Given that a third of millennials approve of communism, lower voter turn out may not be a bad thing.
We live in a time when all the stupid ideas from history are rearing their ugly head.
    Jack

  9. Oh, that’s rich.   Yertle wants everyone to wait for info  before passing judgement…of the air strikes.    Well, it’s a mess and it’s been a mess for 40 years.   Energy independence; separate our interests from that hellhole.

  10. So, Trumpsky was projecting what he would do.   He is just a little, psych project from hell.

  11. Craig…  I’m hoping that the younger generations thinking that climate change is the number one issue…  along with a hatred of Trump…  will bring them out in large numbers.  If they want a future for themselves and their children, they’d better get off their collective asses (and off their phones) and show up on election day.

  12. craig, isn’t that demographic where Bernie’s base is?   but where is he getting the money?

  13. don’t be surprised if mitch announces how inappropriate it would be to put a prez on trial during a national emergency.

  14. I’m surprised that trump didn’t figure that our intelligence community was laying a trap for him.
Btw, where is Ayatollah Bone Spur of Queens ? Hiding in the bunker under the Pentagon or cowering deep beneath Cheyenne Mountain ?

  15. Here we go again….interesting that the fool and the fools around him suddenly believe our intelligence people.  The timing.  Another of the fool’s distractions. This one from his impeachment.

  16. The intelligence community does not lay traps for our elected officials. For cause, people may be reported to counterespionage or FBI or OSI/NCIS officials for investigation.

  17. No, our professionals don’t lay traps for the elected officials. That’s either craziness in trump’s head or the excuse trump uses to weaken our defenses, as he aids vladimir putin.

  18. Looks like Biden stepped into it again.  Something about him saying that HRC did not have it as tough as he will coming up.  Either his campaign is failing him, or he should not be on the trail anymore.

  19. Rumours are out there that Chuck (criminals deserve equal treatment) Todd might be leaving the NBC building in D.C. for Nicole (I am not a Republican) Wallace to take over the time slot.  That is the only good news today (as SFB has not had a clogged artery failure (at least so far today)).

  20. Thanks for the good rumor about upchuck, Ms Bronc. In my opinion, as recovering rippers go Ms Wallace is much more humble, intelligent, and decent.
