Sunday Serendipity

By Jace, Trail Mix Contributor

Perhaps no other work by Shakespeare has been told and retold and set to music more often than Romeo And Juliet. Prokofiev’s music for the ballet of the same name is an extraordinary work. Today’s selection is an excerpt from that work. It is both heroic and foreboding, and could easily lead the listener to the conclusion that things will never turn out well for the star crossed lovers.

Enjoy the music and as always enjoy your day!

  2. sturge, thanks for last night’s offering

If you look around the table and cant spot the mark—-the mark is you.

a truly immortal motto to be inscribed on many an archway ….

  3. just stumbled on this short primer on public relations how-tos by prdaily  titled “In Puerto Rico, Tesla grabs praise, others apologize”

makes some good points and should be studied and memorized by not only some corps but some politicians as well.

  4. Death count in PR is now at 1000 … The storm victims, dehydration, water borne diseases are being categorized as “natural causes”.

  5. Beautiful, Jace..star crossed lovers.    And to the M&M Doodlesdog coupling?  Isn’t longevity and love grand!!

  6. Jace,

Thank you that was wonderful.  As always you come through with a great start for Sunday.

  7. tapper just used the term ‘trump’s media vassals.’    Sounded like ‘assholes’ and describes faux news (running hillary radioactive vids), ny post, brietbart, drudge, etc.  An excellent choice of words — media serfs or smurfs they only talk of hillary’s crimes and the only mention of Mueller?   Calls for his resignation.   Look for noose marks on the trumpence gang on Monday.

  8. Jace, what a pleasure to wake up to Prokofiev! Many thanks.

Blonde Wino, I got a fact wrong on yesterday’s “honeymoon” post. We cast our absentee ballots for Mondale and drove off into the Florida sunset. 1984. A good year for us, anyway.

Are *45 and GOP the doomed lovers? Is this WH Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, A Comedy of Errors, As You Like It, or Richard III? Whatever it is, I’m going with any version starring The Stooges. Moe was a Shakespearean actor, you know.

  9. bw, marc murphy’s cartoon today was a good one on the vilest of  ‘trump’s media vassals.’

well, must admit there might be some more vile than faux gnus, but they’re in the lead so far.

  10. A rainy day in D.C. means a lot of puttering around indoors.  Or sitting in a recliner drinking coffee and reading.

Just saw that rumours are that the Mueller investigations are about to produce results.  Perhaps a vignette of perp walks would be nice viewing Monday evening.  Still need to plan the exits.  #45 has to be proceeded by veep.

Do not want to have SFB made into a martyr, he does need to be proven a criminal and possibly even a traitor.

  11. Trump’s Approval Rating Drops to Lowest Level Yet in New NBC News/WSJ Poll
    by Mark Murray

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has declined to the lowest point of his presidency, and nearly half of voters want their vote in the 2018 midterms to be a message for more Democrats in Congress to check Trump and congressional Republicans, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Thirty eight percent of Americans say they approve of Trump’s job performance — down five points since September — while 58 percent disapprove.

Trump’s previous low in approval in the national NBC/WSJ poll was 39 percent back in May.

“This is his worst showing of his young presidency so far,” said Democratic pollster Fred Yang of Hart Research Associates, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff and his team at Public Opinion Strategies.

The drop for Trump has come from independents (who shifted from 41 percent approval in September to 34 percent now), whites (who went from 51 percent to 47 percent) and whites without a college degree (from 58 percent to 51 percent).

“Are we starting to see the fraying of the Trump base … after this week of [Republican] infighting?” Yang asked.

Trump’s job approval rating of 38 percent is the lowest in modern times for a president at this stage of his presidency. The NBC/WSJ poll had George W. Bush at 88 percent, Barack Obama at 51 percent and Bill Clinton at 47 percent in the fall of their first year as president.

In this new survey, Trump also has seen a decline in his personal rating, with 36 percent viewing him positively and 54 percent negatively.

    [….continues…]

  12. “Do not want to have SFB made into a martyr, he does need to be proven a criminal and possibly even a traitor.”

bbronc, agree with you on the martyrdom but I would gladly trade pardon promises for the trumpence two if they’ll quietly step down conceding the election to Hillary and slink away into history’s dust bins.

since we don’t do drawing and quartering anymore, what’s the fun of merely tagging them traitors?

  13. One of the worst people on the face of the earth is Willie Lewis Brown jr former speaker of the California Assembly, former mayor of SF and current big giant asshole -well he always was now more than ever.

He is a Democrat but he does whatever he can to promote pG because they are in many ways alike.

He used his law firm and partnerships in other law firms to launder bribes. He’s a disgusting pig but because is he flashy, amusing and glib he was a media darling and no tough stories were ever written. I cannot be in the same room with him without becoming enraged. And his pal John Burton yikes!

  14. Can never pass up a reason for Mark Knopfler, so here’s another star crossed Romeo and Juliet

  15. Thank you Jace for always expanding my musical horizons especially when I would rather you stayed with musicals.

  16. I think we need an indictment(s) pool.

I’m going with Wilbur Ross for money laundering..although easy pickings Manipedi and his crime family.   I’d like to see Roger Stone go to since he a partner of Manipedis

  17. Amen CNN’s @brianstelter @ReliableSources re: Trump sex accusers: “It is truly shocking to hear Trump’s spokeswoman say those women are all liars.”

  18. KGC I’m going for the gold in your indictment pool: It’s Trump. He told Lester Holt he fired Comey to stop Russia investigation. Obstruction of Justice. Case closed.

  19. The media speculation on the indictments is beyond stupid – they haven’t got a clue and the speculation borders on the stupid and yet they keep repeating it

  20. Now I’m going to be beyond disappointed if it’s not Trump..has anyone seen lard butt today?

  21. He spent a lot of the morning tweeting unless he now has a semi-illiterate flunky to spread the disinformation and attacks for him.

  22. I fear that Trump, much like Marius, would prefer to set off a bloodletting in the streets of America than submit.

The stage is set, all the players are in place.

  23. don’t get our hopes up, craig.  more likely they’ll go for the small fry lower hanging fruit who will be easier to turn and methodically work their way up the chain.  I hope very carefully. with all the talk (wsj editorial?) that Mueller should step down, any mistake will be blown out of proportion and the clamoring will intensify which will distract the easily distracted media.

on the trump accusers front, wonder if the larry flynnt offer has landed any new accusations.  still think it would be neat if someone who signed a non disclosure to cover twit’s ass would take to the tube and tear it up in his face recounting nationwide his disgusting misbehavior.

  24. the low hanging fruit theory has been much discussed and somewhat discounted

  25. Das Russians undoubtedly have deep profiles of 45…..there’s a reason of some sort he’s there where he is…..this dude will go to any length to not submit, plus he’s probably battling with the Alzheimer’s……successful at it is a large question, but he is entirely capable of letting slip quite a few hitherto pent up dogs of war in America.

  26. let me see if I understand this – PG and his trolls, the Goopers, are willing to grandstand on the opioid crisis but not cover mental health or rehab in healthcare.

  27. Sturge

I’m setting here with a glass of Preacher Craigs finest, it doesn’t help.

I’m starting to think that maybe those on heroin are on the right track.

    Just sayin’

    Jack

  28. The problem with republicans is that they think peasants should be happy with whatever they get.

  29. I’m betting on General Michael Flynn as first indictment. Manafort rep telling ABC News they don’t think it’s comrade Paul, but Flynn’s camp has not responded…

  30. Trump says “no collusion” despite telling NBC he fired FBI director to stop Russia probe. You admitted it, dumb ass.

  31. Alhtough I hope for many indictments, I’ll bet the first is Flynn’s son (he is not a junior, but has the same first and last name…like bush, reagan…only trump has a junior).   weissmann is known for going after family members as he did in the enron prosecution.   michael g flynn, of pizzagate fame,  was with his dad every step of the way with trips to russia and campaign collusion, analog and digital.

flynn calls himself jr. on his twitter feed…nothing unusual on his feed just the usual cnn bashing.

  32. Keep those candles going BW

And I don’t think it would hurt if we all wish that it is PG

  33. Going all the way back to the 2008 election, there was a streak of misogyny in the coverage and behavior of Clinton opponents, it is the main reason I have distanced myself from the democratic party and Obama’s administration.

Ezra Klein has a good article talking about sexual predators and Washington punditry.
    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/10/27/16561386/wieseltier-halperin-journalism-sexual-harassment

When I arrived in Washington in 2005, Mark Halperin and Leon Wieseltier occupied the commanding heights of political journalism. Halperin was the editor of ABC’s the Note, a daily political news digest that the New Yorker called “the most influential tip sheet in Washington.” Wieseltier was the philosopher-king editing the New Republic’s arts and culture section, but his influence extended deep into the rest of the magazine, and into liberal journalism broadly. As Halperin defined the conventional wisdom of the political elite, Wieseltier defined it for the liberal intelligentsia — he was, wrote Vanity Fair, Washington’s “aesthetic and moral arbiter.”
In recent days, Halperin and Wieseltier have been accused of serial sexual harassment and predation. Numerous women have come forward to accuse Halperin of behavior ranging from demanding they sit on his lap to discuss their reporting to rubbing his erections on them (Halperin denies the charges). Wieseltier’s behavior, meanwhile, was so known that ex-New Republic editor Michelle Cottle says it can’t even be described as an open secret — “it was simply out in the open.” Wieseltier was lecherous, objectifying, demeaning, and bullying. He leered at his female employees, groped and kissed them at work functions, left them thank-you notes for wearing miniskirts to the office, and humiliated them when they rejected his advances.
What does it mean that these men — and so many others liked them — held the power to literally shape America’s political narrative?

lol, I think we know the answer.

  34. The altar candles burn….the mantis pray.

Since the first caveman clubbed a woman to drag back to his man cave?  Things have changed for women, but it is a slow change over eons.   Each generation moving an inch or two on the civility dial.

  35. Are we playing Clue?

I say it was Colonel Mustard, with the candle stick, in the library.

  36. “38% of Americans on opioids approve Trump.”

same as his approval level, or a little above it.

  37. I don’t care what any of the targets say, you can bet they’ve made their plans with their lawyers and accountants to argue and make bail.
