Donald, We’re Sorry We Knew Ye

Whether it’s the extraordinary rebuke by usually circumspect Sen. Bob Corker or the provocative predictions of resignation from a co-author, the drumbeat against President Trump is growing louder.

Corker of Tennessee, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: “The president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability, nor some of the competence, that he needs to demonstrate in order for him to be successful — and our nation and our world needs for him to be successful, whether you are Republican or Democrat. He also recently has not demonstrated that he understands the character of this nation. He has not demonstrated that he understands what has made this nation great and what it is today. And he’s got to demonstrate the characteristics of a president who understands that. Without the things I just mentioned happening, our nation is going to go through great peril.”

Co-author of President Trump’s 1987 best-selling memoir “Art of the Deal” Tony Schwartz: “The circle is closing at blinding speed. Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and Congress leave him no choice. … There is no right and wrong for Trump. There’s winning and losing. And that’s very different from right and wrong. Right now he’s in pure terror that he is going to lose.”

  1. Saturday Night Live had a sketch last season featuring Louis CK as the white guy who tweets, retweets, posts memes in support of BLM, racial justice, social causes, etc. All from the comfort of his couch in Indiana. That’s what he does. Then apparently goes on with his white guy life.

What do we do here, really? Do we have any members who are of color, minorities, who add voices of authenticity? Solar, where are you? This blog is impossibly white otherwise. Try as we might to be sincere & sympathetic our experiences in life will never be the same. This privilege holds many benefits, most importantly we are in power, we are the “Representatives”, we fill the positions, we make the Laws, we enforce the Laws. But will we ever change that system to be inclusive – do we have the courage? Being white has perks up the ying-yang. One of which is to talk big & do precious little because we can. Food for thought.

  2. sjwny – I am a transgender person, you don’t get much tiny of a minority than that.  Hate crimes against us are a common occurrence.  Most of us have been subject to some hate event during our lives.

I am also a woman, which is the larger cohort than males.  Yet our lives are under constant moves to diminish our value and power.

I am white, mostly Finnish and European except for a small percentage of Native American, Chippewa and Nanticoke.

  3. Blue Bronc,

Thank You. Just food for thought. One thing I know my outward appearance (read: color) will probably save me from being shot over a busted tail light.  Most cultures diminish women, but being a white woman has advantages over not being a white woman. This isn’t being smug, just stating truth & our place in enacting real change, biases, perks etc. We rock! -> [Truth …. or sarcasm? Or sarcastic truth? White folks’ problems, parsing words.]

  4. many fine well-thought out, heartfelt goals on the trail last night like those from

bink – Objective: Foster discussions and attitudes conducive to the realization of a truly color-blind American society within the next 50 years.

Jamie – Basically that which helps the most of us make it in this world in order to help the rest of us.  So education and health.  If you have those two things available to everyone, they will manage to survive or at least be able to assist those who can’t take advantage of those two things.

xr – not an objective, but more along the lines of a vision. The object of families is human development. The object of government is to facilitate human development. The end we should steer toward, and which should always be our pole star, is a world so just that love can thrive, and so loving that justice can thrive.

mine, and as I interpreted what mrs jack/ jack’s objective is also, is to do what I can to do right.  how can I expect others to live and do what is right or to listen to my preachments/admonishments if I cannot govern my own little world from minute to minute, activity to activity?  when this bag of water, this individual universe of millions of molecules of mine, becomes perfect then maybe others will also find perfection.  until that time I continue to try….

  5. wapo:

Three fundraising giants decided to pull events from President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach on Thursday, signaling a direct blowback to his business empire from his comments on Charlottesville’s racial unrest.

The American Cancer Society, a high-dollar client at the club since at least 2009, cited its “values and commitment to diversity” in a statement on its decision to move an upcoming fundraising gala. Another longtime Mar-a-Lago customer, the Cleveland Clinic, abruptly changed course on its winter event only days after saying it planned to continue doing business at Mar-a-Lago, a leading venue for charitable events in the posh resort town.

The American Friends of Magen David Adom, which raises money for Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross, also said it would not hold its 2018 gala at the club “after considerable deliberation,” though it did not give a reason. The charity had one of Mar-a-Lago’s biggest events last season, with about 600 people in attendance.

The cancellations will undoubtedly squeeze revenue for the private club Trump calls the “winter White House,” where similar-size events have often brought in fees of between $100,000 and $275,000 each.

But the Florida club may face an even deeper crisis of confidence from the local business community. The head of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, of which Mar-a-Lago is a member, called the business “morally reprehensible” on Thursday and said she expected more charities to defect.

  6. worthy of a listen

    Published on Aug 17, 2017

Veteran journalist and former LBJ press secretary Bill Moyers compares the Trump presidency to the Johnson administration. He tells Lawrence O’Donnell why Trump’s reaction to the removal of Confederate statues demonstrates the president’s consistent inconsistency.

  7. On Bink’s challenge last night. I’d say demographics might take care of it. We’ll be such a diverse society, with whites in the minority, everybody will have to calm down and get along in order to basically function as a society — or kill each other in a 5-sided Civil War.

  8. I second patd’s highlight of the excellent comments of yesterday…I want to add Jack’s comment and I applaud him for detailing how evolved humans come to grips with racism by endorsing civil rights of humans and believing it!!

Jack said  “As to racism, I was raised in an incredibly racist world. Getting from that world to where I am today took a lot of conscience effort and constantly examining my assumptions. I still do it today, It has become a habit.  I’ve come a long way in my personal journey  but I am still working on perfection. I’m trying not to sound pompous but knowing how far I’ve come It irritates me when I see some one like our president who is too lazy to even try.”

  9. Yup…  the noose is tightening around SFB’s neck.  I’m now reading David Cay Johnston’s “The Making of Donald Trump”.  SFB definitely has a pattern of fighting at first and then folding up like a cheap accordion.

My objective…   I am a fiber artist.  I wake up everyday trying to express my vision that I believe comes through me from whatever you call God (I call it the Universe).  I sell my works to anyone…  no matter their color, ethnicity, religion, sex, political stripe, whatever, etc., etc.   On a personal level, I try to make my corner of the world a more loving and polite place.  I open doors for people.  I smile at friends and strangers alike.  I always say please and thank you.  If I see someone who needs help, I try to help to the best of my ability.  Most importantly to me, I vote in every election.

  10. I wasn’t able to do my duty the past couple of days on the Trail. Rushing through the thoughtful content, it was definitely my loss.

The assemblage happening today at Camp David certainly sounds like an intervention; Sturgeon help us if it turns out being an insurrection.

  11. Flatus – the first thing I see in the Camp David articles is “Camp David”.  Not one of the SFB resorts or the tower of doom.  This is either a come to jesus meeting or a “shut up or we quit” meeting.  My guess is that the staff are very tired of the attacks on them by their families for hanging around with the president of the confederacy, kkk and nazis.

Will anything come of it?  I have one thought if pence is there, #45 is about to take leave “to be with his family more and to tend to some health issues”.  Which brings up the #46 issue of what to do with all the trash SFB brought along with him into government.  Would pence fire them all?  Or most of them?  Which also raises the question of how long would pence last?  Before Mueller does his thing or after?

  12. james murdoch pledges $1million to ADL urges others to do the same in email.    james murdoch has survived the family debacles  —

“James Murdoch, he is part of the clean-up team at Fox and did not need much persuading to get rid of Ailes. But in no other company in the world would he be back in charge of a huge media corporation, let alone when a prime minister had explicitly argued against such a role. That is the exceptional nature of the organisation that Rupert Murdoch has built. It operates to different rules. (fromthe newstatesman).”

good ole rupert murdoch, adivser to trump and recently at dinner advised trump to dump bannon. murdock’s former wife wendi deng…the russian connection between abramovich, putin, ivanka and kushner.

the noose tightens…trump will pardon his children…if he resigns?  He could be prosecuted, so pence will pardon him.  The cornered man with his hair on fire and white eye makeup…perhaps his mania will peak during the agitation phase of the solar eclipse.

I forgot to also tell Craig that his line about trump putting the statues at his golf courses?  Best of the internets yesterday!!  Hall of fame quality humor.

  13. thanks BW, silly quips about the best I can do these days. The inanity (insanity) of it all too overwhelming to try for profound.

  14. speaking of a “profound deficit”, I’ve been looking at a blank book proposal form my agent sent to me. She’s pushing to shop sort of a squeal to my first book, Attack the Messenger, that is Trump/media focused. But there’s so much material out there it’s tough to conjure up a fresh angle. Think the page will probably remain blank a while longer.

  15. anyway, the solar eclipse would be a good time to exchange 45 for 46 under the 2 minute darkness.

  16. nice pic eProf, i’d say that day is almost here. Looking at it got me thinking, what’s a unifying definition of what it is to be an American in this diversifying society? I know there’s plenty of rhetoric to answer that, but much of it is empty. We need something that covers everyone under the tent.

  17. I have a specific vision and that is a better criminal justice system  It is where I put my money and time

I don’t think being white is a detriment to change and/or being the voice of authentic change.  It’s what Bink said yesterday. You have to realize if you are white that you are privileged.

I have been stopped by the police but not arrested because I am old and white.  I was absolutely doing something wrong.   He said it would be like arresting his grandparents.  We should be ashamed and let us go.

  18. So, I appreciate the responses, and it seems like some of you have a better idea about what you might want to do, but…

I was hoping people could define objectives for everybody, not just themselves.  People ask, “what should we do?”, and I hoped we could build a resource to that end.

I can, and will glean succinct obj. definitions out of people who didn’t follow the format, but then I’m spinning everything my way.

    For Example:

    “Objective: Impeach Trump”

Now that that objective is defined, we could collaborate on generating peaceful and productive strategies to that end.

  19. Objective: Establish a non-iconographic visual personal identifier to non-verbally communicate my solidarity with vulnerable community members.

  20. Objective: Develop strategies to immediately confront overtly discriminatory/racist casual speech in social spheres, like work, community or sporting events, in retail environnments, etc.

  21. Objective: Develop strategies to immediately confront overtly discriminatory/racist casual speech in social spheres, like work, community or sporting events, in retail environnments, etc.

I think in today’s atmosphere it should be a lot easier and this might be a good time to bring up the issue of the Redskins again

  22. Ok, then… help formulate accessible strategies to that end for people that can’t do so themselves, but want to know what to do.

  23. Interesting that the news that bannon is out is shooting around the world.  No matter the language you can see the “bannon” in the sentence.  Now there is a “he said, he said” about whether SFB fired him or he resigned.  That will be a good attitude for bannon when he talks to Mueller.

  24. Obviously, Craig could compile these objectives in a permanently edited thread (which he should moderate with a heavy-hand to keep it focused), and strategies could be submitted to each individual objective, as they were conceived, by anyone who would like to contribute, anonymously or not.

Then, when someone laments to you in frustration “what do I do?!”, you can tell them to go to trailmix.cc and pick something from a list developed by a group of hip, socially-conscious people.

  25. Word is Bannon’s out. NBC confirmed through “sources” inside the White House. Good news/ bad news.

  26. I thought of one for you, already, patd:

Objective: Employ your biblical literacy in the development of talking points for liberal Christians to discuss contemporary social issues in a religious context.

  27. Very good, KGC, now you’re getting it,  that is, of course, step one of meeting the objective of “impeach Trump”.

If you want Trump impeached, and haven’t contacted your respective elected representatives, you’re remiss.

  28. Bannon out?   Showboating

I think one thing white people must do is confront why we excuse racism in others based on geography, culture and economic position. Why do we do that – give grace to other people’s hatred by saying they can’t help it because of…. when we know that it crap.

I think we have been afraid of what would happen. But it is happening anyway

  29. I’m fired up

Copies of this should be on every pew this weekend

ok just kidding but it is pretty funny

So is the Camp David thing an intervention -can you cure a lifetime willful ignorance

  30. I might be too optimistic about Mueller but let’s wait for his findings. Because that is the wind that will sail calls and letters for impeachment. The deep state is giving him everything he needs as we speak.

While we wait, calls and letters urging a 25th amendment ouster might be more useful.

  31. When I read that Bannon called the racist groups a bunch of clowns, my first thought was John Kelly is pissed and Bannon knows it.  It was a desperate attempt to save his own ass.  But alas, Kelly won.  I want Kelly there for no other reason than hoping he tackles SFB if he sees his finger move toward that button.

Craig… agreed….  I’m waiting for Mueller too.  I’ve stopped listening to SFB racist rants…  he’s just trying to distract us from anything Russian.  But with that said…  I pray no one gets hurt in Boston tomorrow.

  32. KGC – excellent replacement!

Something to ponder for the next two hours.  Bannon leaving the WH is big news.  But, and this is important, every Friday, roughly about five pm Eastern time, some major news about the SFB is released by NY Times or WashPo.  So did SFB shove the guy out the front door while he is doing something at the back door? Something which will be released soon?  Time to sit back after work and wait.

  33. My spirit is being crushed.

Renee, patd, being a good person isn’t good enough.  We’re all good people, and yet, ignorant American fascism is on the rise.  Do better.

Pogo, c’mon.  BlueInDallas, you had better give us one objective or a strategy to realize someone else’s- I can, in good faith, write one for you, that I think you would support in sincerity, but I’ll be Goddamned if I do.

  34. Bink…  I feel at this point you are making a demand…   I don’t play those games.

  35. RR

Couldn’t disagree more about what  Bink is doing

Apparently Bannon got cut loose for undercutting McMasters not for anything having to do with his being a big giant racist

  36. bink, you have the makings of a mighty fine dictator.  beware the power of such a talent for it doth corrupt.

thanks for the compliment (I think) but where in hell did you get the idea that I am a liberal christian, a biblical scholar or anything else identifiable and worthy of a label?  as jake spoon would say, am just trying to get through the territory without getting scalped, that’s all.   one second at a time.

  37. however, bink, you are quite correct that being a good person isn’t good enough. one must do good as best one can.

  38. I’ve been writing letters to my Rep, the notorious jason lewis*, and my Sens Klobuchar and Franken. We have a monthly get-together in our co-op during which we write letters to our pols primarily, but sometimes to folks like ryan or trump.

This suggestion by Mr Bink is wonderful : Employ your biblical literacy in the development of talking points for liberal Christians to discuss contemporary social issues in a religious context. I’ve used this approach in lobbying for more affordable. When the pols wouldn’t budge we took matters to the churches. (Assemblies of God wasn’t interested.)

*Subbing for rush limbaugh, lewis extolled slavery, saying blacks were treated well. Of course he opposes income tax, which he considers a bad slavery, presumably because the IRS doesn’t whip or shoot people, sell mom’s away from their children, and vice versa, or foster rape.

  39. Who, me, what?  I just threw up the Bannon thing while I was running around at lunch – heard it and wanted to pass it along.  On balance that probably helps SF among the less crazy members of his party.

I really haven’t put much thought toward strategies for removing trump.  Short of armed insurrection or a military coup (Not holding my breath – this ain’t Latin America) I see two possibilities – impeachment (again, not holding my breath) and 25th Amendment action by Pense and the cabinet – through the Congress.  Getting that ball rolling through anyone serving in Congress from WV is pissing up a rope – possible exception, Joe Manchin.  I’m going to call his office and suggest a 25th resolution.

I think the final alternative – criticize every dumbass thing SF says or does and wait for 2020 – is akin to being stuck in the proverbial fiery lake for a thousand eternities.

  40. He only has to stay in office until 2018 and the Dems take back the house and senate and then gett rid of Trump and Pence and Nancy P is president

  41. from bbc:

Ms Huckabee Sanders’ statement said: “White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day.

“We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”

  42. In the Acts v. Faith controversy, always choose action (and life).

Merely faithing is the same as sitting on the bench, waiting for Coach Death to send you to the locker room.

  43. business insider: More Americans are calling for Trump’s impeachment than ever — here’s how that would play out

A new poll by PRRI  released Thursday reveals rising support for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, with four in 10 Americans hoping to see the president removed from office.

That number is larger than it was six months ago, according to the poll.

    [….]

In the wake of the press conference, #ImpeachTrump became a top trending topic on Twitter this week.

    […..article continues…]

  44. IMO…  one cannot “be” good unless one “does” (or do) good.

And if that ain’t good enough…  tough!

  45. flatus & bbronc, what do you make of this?

    from pbs:

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has approved a long-delayed Pentagon plan to create an independent and more aggressive cyber command in order to beef up cyberwar operations against the Islamic State group and other foes.

The White House announcement Friday means U.S. Cyber Command may eventually be split off from the intelligence-focused National Security Agency.

For now, Trump has agreed to raise the stature of Cyber Command within the military and give it more autonomy.

“This new Unified Combatant Command will strengthen our cyberspace operations and create more opportunities to improve our nation’s defense,” Trump said in a written statement. “The elevation of United States Cyber Command demonstrates our increased resolve against cyberspace threats and will help reassure our allies and partners and deter our adversaries.”

Making cyber an independent military command will put the fight in digital space on the same footing as more traditional realms of battle on land, in the air, at sea and in space. The move reflects the escalating threat of cyberattacks and intrusions from other nation states, terrorist groups and hackers, and comes as the U.S. faces ever-widening fears about Russian hacking following Moscow’s efforts to meddle in the 2016 American election.

The goal is to give Cyber Command more autonomy, freeing it from any constraints that stem from working alongside the NSA, which is responsible for monitoring and collecting telephone, internet and other intelligence data from around the world — a responsibility that can sometimes clash with military operations against enemy forces.

  46. Jennifer Rubin says don’t buy the WH spin on Bannon’s ouster.

How will we know that Bannon’s departure is more than another staff shuffle? Look to see if Trump continues to campaign against Republican incumbents, obsess over news coverage, treat Russia with kid gloves, saber-rattle over North Korea and stoke racial tension.

He will, unless Kelly tackles him and beats the ever loving shit out of him.  Man has Jennifer come a long way in the past few months or what?

  47. patd – the cyber command split off has been in the works for a long time.   Cyber Command probably will do good on its own.  The same way USAF Space Command functions. The operational theater is different than a combat zone on Earth.  I suspect there will be a general or two upset, but overall it should function okay.

  48. The Mercers should be talked about more they are funding Bannon’s new job

Mercer, a hedge fund executive, and his daughter Rebekah collaborated with Bannon on at least five ventures between 2011 and 2016, including Breitbart, which Bannon ran. He also served as vice president and secretary of the Mercer-funded Cambridge Analytica, a data science company that worked for Trump’s campaign.

Bannon earned at least $917,000 in 2016, drawing at least $545,000 of that from four Mercer-backed ventures, according to a personal financial disclosure he filed in late March. At the time, he estimated that his assets were worth between $11.8 million and $53.8 million. Among his holdings: three rental properties and a strategic consulting firm he said was worth between $5 million and $25 million. The filing also showed that Bannon had significant cash reserves, reporting at least $1.1 million in three different U.S. bank accounts.

  49. bbronc, I asked because this caught my eye in the article:

…goal is to give Cyber Command more autonomy, freeing it from any constraints that stem from working alongside the NSA,…

given the current chaos in the white house, i wondered if the move away from nsa is to put some space between them and the twit (or the twit’s ideological surrogates like the late bannon).

  50. both these guys, freed from constraints of white house, are apt to cause a lot of distraction away from the Russia investigation and could have planned it on behalf of the twit as much as for themselves.  more shiny stuff for media.
One of Steve Bannon’s Closest Allies Could Be Next to Leave the White House
Sebastian Gorka, an ally of ousted White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, also faces possible removal from his post as a counterterrorism aide to President Donald Trump, two people with knowledge of the situation said Friday.
Gorka, who previously worked with Bannon at Breitbart News, has appeared regularly on Fox News to speak on the Trump administration’s behalf. Earlier in the year, he drew sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers after reports he had links to a far-right group in Hungary alleged to be antisemitic. Gorka has dismissed those accusations as groundless and called Trump’s White House one of the “most pro-Israeli administrations in U.S. history.”

Gorka didn’t respond to a request for comment.

  51. how can you be a counter terrorism specialist if you do not have a security clearance

  52. Trump fired Bannon because only one racist in the White House can have a ridiculous hair cut.

  53. The mercerized White House and DoEd

We shouldn’t forget that the international murder inc formerly know as Blackwater is a part of the mercer empire, or that Secy devos’ brother (who owns the international murder inc) colluded with russian agents in 2016 to obtain dirt on candidate Clinton. Lock them all up.

  54. I respectfully requested every regular participant write ONE sentence, and most wrote at least 10 sentences explaining why they wouldn’t.

    Fair, enough.

  55. Cyber Command should be a joint command comprised of elements of all military branches. Cyber is a combat mission, not intelligence–that’s the realm of NSA and our other intel agencies overseas as authorized by statute. Cyber will have absolutely nothing to do with eavesdropping.

  56. pussypincher’s chief disservice to Americans who are processing the Charlottesville event came in equating the murderer and his unarmed, unsuspecting victim.

In trump’s racist, sexist world, when the murder victim is a Black or a woman, it’s their fault.

    Ponder that.

  57. KGC

Every observant American sufficiently aware to detect bad vibes is qualified to be a counter terrorism specialist.

  58. BlueINDallas,

Would you be willing to define one objective, in a social or political context, so that strategies might be developed to meet that objective?  Please?

  59. Bink, you’re fired as Chief of Staff. We don’t take well to demanding homework assignments and admonitions about failure to comply. Returning now to our usual chaos of no one in charge.

  60. Fuck you, Craig.

Most of you are full of shit. It’s fine, so am I, but at least I can admit it. Watch YOUR society crumble, it’s not an affront to me, personally.

  61. I’m thinking of running against jason lewis from what occasionally feels like my death bed. Right now, and feeling okay, I figure I could beat that vile creep 60-40 even if I ran from a headquarters 6′ under.

Unfortunately, Congress wouldn’t seat my corpse, even though some other fellows’ mummies have spent years in the House, with no one being the wiser. The damn bigots are just prejudiced against neo-Cadavers.

Anywho, Sweetie said she’d file for divorce if I filed to run for Congress. I cannot serve with out the support of the woman I love. Therefore, I shall abdicate my winning candidacy. G!D bless y’all, and G!D bless the Minnesota 2d Congressional District !

  62. Oh, but sincerely, don’t allow my last comment to dissuade anyone from still contributing to my requested topic of “definitions of objectives”.  I’ll read it, and you might inspire a non-participant in a way of which you’ll never be aware.  Here’s to it.

  63. Craig

I think you should rehire Bink immediately he did not demand anything…not that he would comeback but on the principle of it.

  64. X-R

O darn and I was thinking your victory could be a victory powered by the gray panthers

Looks like SFB is only loyal to blood..everyone else too bad

  65. Well that was easy

Maybe if we all ask SFB to quit he will

what do you think email, postcards?

  66. I’m just blown away that people that vomit words like it’s their job, and I’m as guilty of that as anyone else, can’t answer a singular respectful request to write one sentence.

Honestly, it’s not a big deal.  I’m not upset, just disappointed.

As for “homework assignments”, Craig, you beg people to contribute threads, all the time.  I asked for no designation nor any special placement, I asked people to write ONE sentence, for THEIR benefit.  If they don’t want to particpate, it’s very easy for them not to.

    Yielding.

(I refuse your appointment- I have more important shit to do. Thanks for your consideration, though.)

  67. You want to be concerned about things?

Bannon was in the security briefings, even when he was not supposed to be.  He has a lot of access to very important information.  The meme going around was that SFB kept him around because he could spill the beans about SFB.  Nope.  bannon has info about a lot of things.  Now that he is on his own and back at the right wing, kkk, nazi and white supremacist site, he can really do serious damage to national security.  Hopefully, Kelly will pull him back and remind him that he can be put in prison for release or use of information.

  68. It is too soon to pour out the trumpoison. Make the repubs drink from their dark cup in 2018. They must choose regicide, or accepting all the trump failure, sexism, classism, and racism as their own. I want to see 100 House seats flip, plus a gain of two seats in the Senate.

  69. X-R is correct it is not enough to get rid of SFB  there has to be suffering by goopers

  70. Everybody talks about how hard it is to work with Hispanics that they don’t do community stuff. People are always amazed at the turnout we get.  So ever once in a while we get someone asking for our magic bullet. We don’t have one. When those folks drop by we talk about  the importance of trust and respect built up over time. their eyes glaze over, they nod politely. In the end they never hear a word we say. If I was good at selling shit, I could make a fortune but the truth is dull and boring.

As for Binks question, it is simple, Renee, pat and others said it. You live a good life and try to do good. If we can convince enough people to do that then we advance if not then we go backward. Nothing exciting just putting one foot in front of the other.

    Jack

  71. It must be a geography in California the Hispanic community is well organized and active -not talking farm workers either.

  72. KGC

there’s hispanic and  there is hispanic.  California has a large population of natives who are hispanic No?

  73. But in the end they are all human, while we are able to connect with the hispanics and get their participation we have problems with African Americans not participating. the problem as I see it is their sense of community is often else where. They may be great neighbors but ……

  74. Bink, you are being too literal. Here in the SW the terms Hispanic, Latino/a, and Chicano/a are all intertwined and a matter of preference to the user and receipent.  The Pinal County leading voice (halfway between PHX and Tucson) is the Pinal County Hispanic Council. Not a single member is a Spaniard. Just saying…..

  75. LOL

good one Bink, now can you say that while impersonating Donald Trump

by that logic I guess Italian is also hispanic

    Jack

  76. Prof.  preferred national origins can get complicated I have a neighbor who is an italian-mexican. Born in Mexico but of Italian ancestry. Are his children Italian -Mexican- American? or at least half of their linage. their mother is from the mountains of Honduras, maybe a lot of Indio in her back ground.

    Jack

  77. Jack, I think you point out why more and more folks check the box other on census forms and applications. My wife is part Mexican, part Chinese, and part Irish. Her grandchildren have all of the above plus Anglo and African American. They are first and foremost beautiful children that we hope their heritage will prepare them to be tolerant and loving people.

  78. The NAACP is an abbreviation for a term that can be considered offensive, eprof2.  The label “Hispanic” is archaic in contemporary dialogue, from my estimation, and for good reason, as it is a misnomer when used to refer to people of Latin American origin.

  79. “I guess Italian is also hispanic”

The best Roman emperors were Hispanic, yes.

“are his children Italian -Mexican- American”?

    They’re American.

Your community outreach is impressive and sets a good example, by the way, Jack. Thanks.
