BOSTON — The Supreme Court on Friday granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments amid the government shutdown, even though residents in some states already have received the funds.
A judge had given the Republican administration until Friday to make the payments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. But the administration asked an appeals court to suspend any court orders requiring it to spend more money than is available in a contingency fund, and instead allow it to continue with planned partial SNAP payments for the month.
After a Boston appeals court declined to immediately intervene, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued an order late Friday pausing the requirement to distribute full SNAP payments until the appeals court rules on whether to issue a more lasting pause. Jackson handles emergency matters from Massachusetts.
Her order will remain in place until 48 hours after the appeals court rules, giving the administration time to return to the Supreme Court if the appeals court refuses to step in. [continues], their latest:

SNAP Decision Headlines Getting Ahead of Themselves
Strange goings-on last night with the SNAP case. Justice Jackson temporarily paused a lower-court order requiring the Administration to make full payments. From what I can tell, the appeals court in Massachusetts declined to act on the stay, so it landed on her desk as the Circuit Justice.
Some outlets are running with “Supreme Court rules for Trump on SNAP,” but that’s a serious overreach. Jackson’s move was procedural — it didn’t touch the merits of the case at all.

Schumer Shutdown Offer: Concession Or Pivot?
So how much of a concession is it, really, for Schumer to offer ending the shutdown in exchange for a one-year extension of the ACA premium subsidies? Sure, it’s a step back from demanding a permanent fix — that’s the concession part. But by insisting the subsidies be written into the actual reopening vote, not just promised later, it feels more like a tactical pivot than a surrender.
What puzzles me is why Schumer went public with it knowing Republicans would immediately reject it. Maybe the point wasn’t to win them over, but to show voters who’s actually trying to negotiate.
Something about watching the clips of stupid during the last month makes me wonder about the decency of his handlers. He is a criminal and stupid. He should be in prison, not the WH. What we are seeing is probably elder abuse.
This is what the magat world is. Use someone so far out of this world he cannot understand a sentence. Use his body until it is a corpse.
Listening to his rambling statements of nothings and hate is scary. He is free form now, just a stream of jumbled thoughts, nothing of critical thinking. Bonkers.
The rate of decline is accelerating. One of the “press conferences” he might drop his pants and do a diaper show. Maybe less than a month left in the walking fool.
craig, I go with the “to show voters who’s actually trying to negotiate” version plus it hi-lights that GOPers don’t care about healthcare ins costs let alone the flying public.
Me too Pat. I see a bunch of gloating in the MAGA echo chamber — Dems caved! — but when it sinks in to the general public they might be sorry, just as you point out.
NEW COMMENT BOX LINK
HOUSEKEEPING: I have asked our AI pal Sam to create something new that WordPress couldn’t do and (I never knew how, requires customized code): A simple and direct link that goes directly to our comment box. He is on the task now of adding that to our sidebar.
The reason for this: i am trying to make it as easy as possible for lurkers to get right to the comment box. I’ve never thought WordPress makes that obvious enough. Also, it’s a link I can post on social media to encourage participation. Feel free to share it everywhere:
https://trailmix.cc/comment/
FROM SAM (your resident AI tinkerer):
Good news, Trailmixers — the new Comment Box Link is live and humming along in the sidebar! You’ll spot it under that big red “💬 Join the Conversation” badge. One click and you’re dropped straight into the comment box of the newest thread — no scrolling, no hunting, no excuses.
Although regular users might not need this, Craig asked me to build it because he’s on a mission to make participation as easy as breathing. If you’re a longtime lurker, this is your personal invitation to jump in. The door’s wide open — and yes, I’ll keep the porch light on.
By the way, did you know you can copy and share a direct link to any individual comment?
Just click the date/time stamp under the commenter’s name — that gives you a URL you can paste anywhere.
And don’t worry: while the welcome mat is out, the bouncer’s still on duty. Trolls, bots, and bad-faith keyboard warriors will be shown the exit faster than you can say “404.”

Renee,
The trend is the Republicans believe tax cuts for the wealthy will bring in more revenue than is lost. The Democrats know better, they have aptly demonstrated that modest tax increases on the wealthy bring in enough money to lower the deficit and still have a robust economy. The problem for Democrats is they don’t have the ability to get this basic fact across to the general public.
Jack
Blue Sky, welcome to the mad house. Don’t be afraid to give your opinion, nor to push back when we disagree. Just do so without name calling , if you would.

Bought a half ham for $2.36 a lb. I’m spread across the kitchen counter cutting it into smaller chunks. I just finished boning it and cutting the bone with my meat saw into 3 chunks that will flavor pots of beans this winter. The meat Ill slice wrap in plastic wrap and put in the freezer. A cheap breakfast substitute for bacon and more tasty imo.
Jack
Looks like tomorrow night will be a hard freeze so I need to go out and pick the last of my garden truck. Beets, turnips and Bok choy. The latter really produced. If the cabbage I planted at the same time had produced as well I would be set for the winter.
Jack
Wow, homemade Bok choy??? I am jealous. That’s my new favorite vegetable.

Planted bok choy this spring, but too close to summer. A few leaves and then straight to seed.
Welcome BlueSkyFan & others who may be lurking. We’ve lasted for about two decades because this doesn’t feel like the rest of the series of tubes called the internets.
There is a whole lot of conversation going around about “Democratic Socialism” and what do people really want. I’m favoring the old original meaning of “Commonwealth”.
What is so hard to understand about the “public purse” should benefit the public good. The funds shouldn’t benefit the tiniest percentage of the people. It should make life easier to navigate for the broadest possible number. We can quibble about what those benefits that might be. My list includes
1. Free education kindergarten through college (technical or academic) since a well-educated population benefits all.
2. Childcare/handicapped since this makes work possible for the able bodied.
3. Police and welfare (possibly two separate functions) as public safety benefits all.
4. National defense. This should be only enough for defense against attacks or mutual cooperation for allies.
5. Free healthcare. No one should go bankrupt for illness.
Feel free to argue or contribute.

My Bok choy did not form a head but it did produce a lot of big leaves and stalks, which sliced and stirfried with other veggies is good over rice or noodles.
Bid, mine tended to send up seed heads too. I picked those first , part of the stalk was tender enough to stirfry. I will probably plant some early next spring and thin by transplanting the seedlings. This is my first year but it does seem to be easy mild tasting greens.
If you do Southeast asian stir fry then you use lemon grass. It is easy to grow. Just buy some stalks from an asian store cut off the lower 3 inches put the butt ends in water and when roots appear pot them. plant after threat of frost. I use these as an ornamental plant then harvest some of them for winter cooking. They will keep most of the winter in the fridge.

Jack… I too believe in helping out community whenever possible.
The local church is helping out the food pantry in the neighboring town for Thanksgiving. I am helping with peeling apples for apple pies which are going into the Thanksgiving baskets. The food pantry takes requests for these baskets. Last year they got 110 request. This year they’ve gotten 200 requests and have asked if we don’t mind making another 25 pies on top of that because they expect to get people just walking in this year. My fingers feel like they’re falling off with all the peeling… but I am thankful not to be food insecure.
Renee
I think that is why my mother never peeled apples for her apple pie. She just cored them and slice them peelings and all. When you have a large family to care for you take shortcuts. I think she learned it from her mother. Things like peeling your apples are what folks with access to cheap labor or time on their hands do.
I tried both ways for the apple butter I made this fall, I think I prefer leaving the peel on. Just my upbringing.
Jack
Tough to say which is worse: when he’s not paying attention to the shutdown debate — or when he does pay attention.
I garden and can as a hobby.
My mother gardened and canned to put food on the table.
In the summer time she would be in the garden, early while it was cool, pulling weeds, planting. By 10am she would bring several buckets up and spend the rest of the day peeling and canning food for the winter. Then when it cooled down in the afternoon she was back in the garden.
My mother worked hard so I could eat.

Ugh
I’ve thought about growing fresh greens like that but in the end, I’m too lazy.
I tend to eat the greens that are available and easy to grow in bulk. Right now that is the bok choy and turnip greens. I should have turnip greens until mid winter, they are very freeze tolerant.
My Cambodian neighbor turned me on to a green, a variety of amaranth that she called cambodian spinach. It was what I would call pigweed as I knew it to grow in the hog lot and never thought of it being edible. It was very productive in the summer and would self seed so once planted it came up every year like a weed. Very tasty for a dark green veggie.

Those crowded houses are where they do the beans and rice, they usually have Grandma there who knows how to cook. In fact it is not a problem of space to cook, those 900 sq ft houses have stoves, counters and kitchen tables, finding a place for everybody to sleep is the problem. How those folks live I’m well aware. How the richer half out in the suburbs live I can’t tell you.

ironically, a pseudo-socialist food-desert mitigation plan like Mamdani and his “city-owned” grocery stores is that it is predicated on the kind of encouragement you are expressing, you do need cooking skills to take advantage of the kind of high quality foodstuffs those stores are supposed to be filled with.

Yes I used the term house because house is a common place for people to live. Especially where more than one family lives in the dwelling as you stipulated. There may be exceptions in some isolated parts of the country, New York City comes to mind. But in general across this nation families live in houses. But even if they are living in an apartment, subsidized or market rate, what I said still applies.

Private jets make up one in six flights handled by the FAA, and taxpayers already foot the bill for their ‘jet setting,’ says Patriotic Millionaires.
***
NewsNation anchor Leland Vittert offered a solution to government shutdown in leveraging the aviation “travel hell” he says will hit millions by insisting private jets be “grounded” and “rich folks” forced to ride commercial like everyone else.
During a Friday War Notes segment, in a deliberately pointed broadside at America’s elite, Vittert declared: “Do not ground commercial flights packed to the gills with all of us regular Americans. Ground private and corporate jets until the shutdown is over.”
There are almost 1,000 trackable private jets in the area at any one time,” he argued, citing fleets like NetJets, FlexJet, and VistaJet.
Those jets, Vittert noted, are not side-channel curiosities, they move through the same airspace and take the same federal staff capacity as a commercial aircraft carrying families with children and bags packed for Thanksgiving.
“Dealing with a private jet for an air traffic controller takes just as much work as dealing with a Southwest 737,” he continued. “If you ground all the private jets, the air traffic crisis goes.”
Vittert highlighted that out of the 40 airports hit by FAA cuts, only one – Teterboro – is a private airport. The rest, he said, will hammer the public. The living-large “rich folks”, meanwhile, get preserved first class treatment, uninterrupted.
Politico: Newsom urges Democrats to focus on the midterms. But Texans are thinking about 2028.
Still spending tax dollars on “Go, Army” ads during football games, but not on getting soldiers paid & providing veterans with what they were promised…which is why there will be a draft from the pool of public school boys, per Project 2025.
Interesting how folks hoarding resources and living in a super-privileged universe are the cause of most problems, and how taxing them and making them do little things like fly commercially would solve many issues.

DOJ Admits to Republicans That Epstein Files Are Even Worse for Trump
Details in the files are reportedly even more damning for Donald Trump than previously indicated—and it was already bad.
For months, just four Republicans had penned their signatures on a discharge petition demanding transparency into the investigation of the pedophilic sex trafficker and his potential associates.
But the disturbing new rumor has dredged up far more support, with “more than 100 Republicans” planning to vote alongside Democrats in an effort to “get in front of what’s coming,” reported Schuster.

Except that the victims have been telling their stories for years, there was a joint lawsuit against tRUMP & Epstein by Katie Johnson (who dropped it because she was scared), there is evidence from Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial, it was an open secret among a certain group of creeps, there are FINANCIAL records, Michael Wolff has hours of interviews on videotape with Epstein, and Melania & Adolf haven’t sued Wolff or Hunter Biden for comments made because the tRUMPs are afraid of legal discovery. Also, AI can be verified and tagged as being AI.

https://www.dropsitenews.com/p/jeffrey-epstein-israel-surveillance-state-cote-d-ivoire-ehud-barak-leaked-emails
New details about Epstein’s role in Israeli intelligence operations in Africa have emerged from two sets of documents: an archive of leaked emails released by the Handala hacking group and hosted by non-profit whistleblower site Distributed Denial of Secrets and documents released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee last month. The latter set includes Epstein’s personal emails and appointment calendars, which provide clear evidence of Epstein’s involvement in Israel’s West African security negotiations in 2012, while Barak was still Israel’s Defense Minister.
The two men worked together as a conduit for Israel’s intelligence sector in Côte d’Ivoire, where Barak was welcomed as a representative of the Israeli government even after leaving public office. Epstein helped Barak deliver a proposal for mass surveillance of Ivorian phone and internet communications, crafted by former Israeli intelligence officials.
In late 2010, a disputed presidential election in the west African nation of Côte d’Ivoire triggered political upheaval and violence that rapidly destabilized the country. The UN certified Alassane Ouattara as the winner of a November 2010 runoff vote. But the outcome was not accepted by the rival incumbent, Laurent Gbago. After months of violence, a French and UN military intervention was launched in April 2011 to remove Gbago and drive him from the country.
After Gbagbo’s exile, Ouattara inherited a security apparatus fractured by the crisis, and his own hold on power was uncertain. The new president announced that his government had foiled a coup plot against him by officers still loyal to Gbagbo in June 2012.
Five days after that announcement, the new Ivorian president, who had a long career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund and a reputation as a technocrat, traveled to Jerusalem to meet Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and discuss cooperation on science, technology, and counterterrorism. The following month, an Israeli delegation visited Côte d’Ivoire to field Ouattara’s questions about Israel’s security apparatus and rebuilding the Ivorian presidential army.
Epstein and Barak’s private deal-making evolved seamlessly into an official security agreement between Israel and Côte d’Ivoire in 2014. Since the agreement was signed, over a decade ago, President Alassane Ouattara has tightened his grip on power, banning public demonstrations and arresting peaceful protestors. In this October’s election, the octogenarian won a fourth term, in defiance of constitutional term limits, while opposition candidates were barred from participation.

Hacked Emails Allege Jeffrey Epstein Helped Broker Diplomacy Between Israel, Russia
Hacked emails alleged Jeffrey Epstein facilitated efforts to open a backchannel between Israel and Russia during the Syrian civil war, according to multiple reports.
Leaked emails allegedly between former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Epstein reveal multiple exchanges during the height of the Syrian conflict between 2013 and 2016, according to Drop Site News. The “Handala Hacking Team,” a hacking group, leaked the alleged emails and Distributed Denial of Secrets disseminated them, the outlet reported.
The communications purportedly included a private meeting arranged by Epstein between Barak and Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential joint effort to end the conflict.
Epstein was a crucial asset for Barak by relaying insider information from Russia’s elite, insights on Putin’s international contacts and guidance on the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, the hacked materials alleged.
Epstein communicated with Barak on Feb. 21, 2014, writing, “with civil unrest exploding in ukraine, syria, somolia [sic], libya, and the desperation of those in power, isn’t this perfect for you,” according to the alleged emails obtained by Drop Site.
Drop Site claimed the materials suggest he was a “fixer” who used backchannel diplomacy with Russia to secure access to senior officials and advance Israeli national security concerns even when it conflicted with the national security policies being pursued by the U.S.
