  3. wannabe dictators must-do list:

first go after the lawyers, then the free press while simultaneously silencing the jesters and humorists

  4. President Biden needs to prs-emptiveky pardon Kimmel and a lot of folks.

More importantly, he is promising to stomp on the US Constitution, and he was involved in an insurrection…so 14th Amendment the bastard. Pardon my language.

Will they shut down BlueSky and any other platform they don’t own?

  5. What’s the difference between one party, or the other, having complete control over mainstream news media subject matter (true or not) and the government enforcing existing “regulations” that are not a matter of law?  It’s all in the First Amendment.  Confusing question?  It is confusing because free speech allows any and all comers.   And, then there’s something about “grievances.”   I stand ready for explanations…the Supreme Court has had a few words about this and you, as a citizen, are entitled to your words.

    And, now I’m going fishing.

  6. Chilling letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

  7. Trump is well known for his total lack of a sense of humor.  If it doesn’t involve inflicting pain or insult, he doesn’t laugh.  The man is dumb which limits his ability to get the joke.

  8. I am really worried about this round-up of brown-skin people, even naturalized citizens. My sons-in-law are veterans, one a USA Marine and one an USA Air Force demolitions expert. The Marine won’t speak a word about his military thoughts; he trained at Camp Pendleton and just stayed there 4 years. The Air Force veteran was stationed in Turkey and was/is a strict believer in the chain of command. He supported any President, even after many years separated from service, as the Commander in Chief.

I was a reluctant soldier and I was horrified that so many soldiers followed the late Wm. Calley at My Lai. I was on a Greyhound from Monterey to San Francisco when I heard about it and I could not process it…it certainly was fake. No. Only for the courage of a soldier who reported Calley did we find out about it. Over the years, more horrific incidents of mass murder of Vietnamese surfaced. We remember Kent State and James Rhodes’s order. Those Ohio National Guards were a mix…some serving out of duty, some had joined in earlier years to avoid the military draft. I was not there as I was in the US Army on leave at home in Indiana. I suspect there may have been a generated snowball effect of hate building against students as there was a real “us versus them” attitude nationwide during the Viet Nam war years. And so, young and seasoned US military personnel may simply follow the attack sent down from 1600 Penna Avenue and we could very well witness shameful acts just like when Japanese-Americans were forced into concentration/internment  camps right here in this “greatest nation on earth”.It’s already started: land has been granted near the southern border to build massive “housing” sheds or barracks. There was a much larger anti-war movement within the US Armed Services during the invasion years into Viet Nam than hardly anybody today remembers. Will today’s all-volunteer and career soldiers US military revolt against commands from Trump’s lackey officers to round up brown skin folks and really destroy their lives?Do not bet on it. This plan sucks.

  9. They are only coming for them first.  Eventually, their boots will be in the necks of everyone except uber-wealthy, mostly white, mostly men.

  10. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/11/19/texas-sboe-bible-christianity-curriculum/

“Eight of the 15 board members voted to approve Bluebonnet Learning, the elementary school curriculum proposed by the Texas Education Agency earlier this year.”

“Critics, which included religious studies scholars, say the curriculum’s lessons allude to Christianity more than any other religion, which they say could lead to the bullying and isolation of non-Christian students, undermine church-state separation and grant the state far-reaching control over how children learn about religion. They also questioned the accuracy of some lessons.”

“The curriculum’s defenders say that references to Christianity will provide students with a better understanding of the country’s history.”

“But the state will offer an incentive of $60 per student to districts that adopt the lessons, which could appeal to some as schools struggle financially after several years without a significant raise in state funding.”

“Little, a Fairview Republican…said on social media earlier in the week that she supports “the teaching of biblical values in education” but criticized the curriculum for some of its teaching methods, which she said leave “little time for students to practice reading and develop critical skills like fluency and comprehension.”

*That’s the whole point.  Indoctrination of a certain brand of Christianity starting in elementary school, and the diminishment of critical thinking skills.  Once the young are indoctrinated sufficiently, public schools will be shuttered.  Women will be forced out of the workplace to homeschool children.  The loss of physical and financial autonomy gives full power to the Chicken-fried Taliban.    Rooting for that asteroid to TCB.

  11. I had been holding out hope that somehow Merrick Garland and his plodding process would have merit. History will not be kind.

  12. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/jack-smith-files-drop-jan-6-charges-donald-trump-rcna181667

“Jack Smith files to drop Jan. 6 charges against Donald Trump”

    FFS!

“The dismissal also marks a historic moment. Fifty years after Richard Nixon was forced by lawmakers from both parties to resign the presidency amid allegations of criminal conduct, half of American voters will return Trump to the presidency despite his own serious charges of criminal misconduct in office.”

“The Supreme Court handed Trump an early victory in the case in July with its ruling on presidential immunity. But a new federal grand jury indicted Trump on the same four charges again in August, alleging that Trump’s false claims about mass voter fraud during the 2020 election were “unsupported, objectively unreasonable, and ever-changing” and that Trump “knew that they were false.” Publicly, Trump has never conceded that his election claims were, in fact, false, and he pleaded not guilty in the case.”

“Smith’s office wrote in Monday’s filing that it’s seeking to dismiss the charges in line with the Justice Department’s longstanding position that it can’t charge a sitting president. But, it added: “That prohibition is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Government stands fully behind.”

“Many Jan. 6 defendants have told judges they lament that they were “gullible” enough to fall for Trump’s falsehoods, which were echoed by the president-elect’s allies, Republicans in Congress and conservative influencers on social media.”

“He [Orange Adolf] is expected to walk through the lower west tunnel, where some of the worst violence of Jan. 6 took place, to be sworn in as president on Jan. 20, 2025.”

  13. Craig – Sadly, I don’t think any of that matters anymore.   We will be living under a fascist regime as of noon on January 20, 2025.  Future elections will be performative.

President Biden needs to do everything he can to hamstring tRUMPsky/Putin now, as well as issue preemptive pardons. Will those pardons be honored? Doubtful. As one of his evil minions, Vought, declared, we are living in post-constitutional times.

  14. https://jacobin.com/2024/11/trump-ag-nominee-musk-bondi

“…Pam Bondi, is reportedly the sister of the lawyer who defended Elon Musk and Tesla against federal securities fraud charges. If confirmed, Bondi would be in a position to shut down the ongoing investigation into Musk.”

“Bradley Bondi was listed in federal documents as Musk and Tesla’s attorney in the company’s 2018 battle with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over a series of Musk’s tweets that the agency said misled shareholders about the financial status of the company, boosting Tesla’s stock price and leading to “significant market disruption.”

“Trump is also reportedly considering nominating Bondi’s brother to head the federal agency that brought fraud charges against Musk.”

  15. I’m not sure what is going on with the Medicare part D screening ap. The one that helps you review your coverage and determine if you need to switch. Hint: you most always do. As usual it offered a selection ranging from lowest to highest. As usual I selected the lowest cost.
But this time I should have looked closer. This time it was throwing into the mix policies that did cover all my listed drugs, namely my insulin. Fortunately somebody at Medicare was on the ball doing their job and sent out an email telling me to be sure my insulin was covered because I could only get the $35 insulin if I was covered. So, I checked this morning, and I wasn’t.
To get to a plan that actually covered my needs I had to scroll down halfway through the 18 plans offered to find one. It looked scary, as it said my total cost was going to be over $10,000 dollars. 3 times this year’s cost. Fortunately, I still have a couple of brain cells working. My 2 insulins are $70 a month, $840 for the year, the policy cost a bit less than $40 a month, total $480. My other 5 meds are common generics that cost a bit more than $5 each, but say $10, at $50 a month, that is $600.  Add it up and that is no where near $10000.
So something is screwy at Medicare, so be careful, Make sure all of your meds are covered, then do as I did go to the Insurance companies web site and check out their numbers too.
You might want to pass this warning along as it seems the way companies are avoiding the $35 insulin cap is to just not cover it.

  16. https://www.npr.org/2024/11/23/g-s1-35465/trump-deportation-migrants-immigrants-texas-construction-industry-border-security
“Clear signals President-elect Donald Trump plans to make good on his campaign pledge to deport millions of undocumented immigrants in his second term has sparked concerns among some in Texas’ business and economic sectors who say mass deportations could upend some of the state’s major industries that rely on undocumented labor, chief among them the booming construction industry.”
“It would devastate our industry, we wouldn’t finish our highways, we wouldn’t finish our schools,” said Stan Marek, CEO of Marek, a Houston-based commercial and residential construction giant. “Housing would disappear. I think they’d lose half their labor.”
“In 2022, more than a half million immigrants worked in the construction industry, according to a report by the American Immigration Council and Texans for Economic Growth. Nearly 60% of that workforce was undocumented.”

  17. Poobah, I’ve seen the working middle to lower economic classes vote against their own Interests in the past, but this takes the cake. Fucking idiots have put what those of us who believe in liberal democracy in America in VERY serious jeopardy. I hate this shit. What the fuck could be worse than our country being led by the fucking authors of Project 2025, the goddamn Heritage Foundation, MAGATs holding both houses of Congress, billionaires and assholes whose limits are set by Donald Fucking Trump and Stephen Fucking Miller?

  18. Perhaps this might help with sfb view of the world, he does not know of or care about agriculture. Zip, almost nada.  He fired a couple of gay Department of Agriculture people, they were public and gay.  I had expected to be canned, but he did not bother any more with Ag.  Back then I was the face of USDA Transgender.

If one of his cult minions gets his attention to look at Ag he might find something to hate, but mostly he is only interested in flashy sh*t.  The agencies that affected his little pea brain is what he hates.  Everything and anything that is not in his hate of being told to rent to Black people is literally not seen.

  19. Everything is Mitch’s fault, even more than Merrick Garland.  He had a clear chance to spare us all in one fell swoop. He blew it. Everything from this point forward is blood on his hands.

  20. Craig – Wait until the farmers see what happens to their subsidies.  Should’ve read Project 2025.

Farm programs, USDA would shrink under Project 2025 goals for ag

“Farm programs, USDA would shrink under Project 2025 goals for ag
Nearly everything in Project 2025’s agricultural chapter runs counter to the $1.5 trillion farm bill proposal the GOP-led House Agriculture Committee passed out of committee in May.”

  21. Rachel going on about everything consolidating to the one man rule. I don’t think the Old Guy has enough strength or energy to do all the work. That’s a lot of writer’s cramp, all that one-person signing.

  22. Ivy – The Heritage Foundation already did most of the work. He is their petty functionary, he just doesn’t know it.  He loves to give autographs, er, sign official documents.
