“We’re approaching the 20th anniversary of the day Geraldo Rivera, live on Fox News Channel, gave away the position and movements of the 101st Airborne Division, and was literally escorted out of Iraq by the U.S. military. This underscores the reality that Fox News has NEVER cared about the troops, about freedoms, about America. It sells a product. The product is phony patriotism. The product is a distorted picture of America. The product is hate. The product is lies.”

Good question.   All i can figure with my limited access to the factses is that I don’t know the answer.

Somehow, sometime, a long time ago really, my religious side faded off.  Now, after living a few decades with scant acquaintance with it I decided I am happy.  Living part of my life with people who are not part of land communities, some with minimal contact I came to the decision that organized, paying religion, is not what we need.  We live in the world that humans have always created gods and monsters to explain why the wind blows, the seas sink boats and where people disappear.  There is always a need to “bless the fleet” or say goodbye to a great boat.  Sometimes you do need to have some ceremony for the end of a life.

I paid my money and became a minister last year.  Nothing specific really, but I am officially clergy.  I do not do denominations, I do listening, a few words and things like that.  Not every person needs a goddess.  I figure if someone has no other options in religion, I am around.

Negative self-talk is what I am struggling with releasing today going forward.   At least I’m catching myself doing it and stopping it in its tracks.   I’m not talking about news, I just mean overthinking and playing out catastrophic scenarios of pretty much every random thing on my to-do list. It would probably help to go back to work in some capacity.   Actually using my meditation app might help, too, so add that to subtracting negative self-talk.

Sounds like a good optional career path.  Courtesy of where I happened to be living as a child, I’ve been through almost every religion in existence and topping it off with converting to Judaism as an adult.  As things now, they have all faded except for a latent, it would be nice if he/she/it at least benevolent in some fashion.

I have my doubts that anything resembling a creator would totally concentrate all the efforts on a tiny terrestrial planet at the far corner of a spiral galaxy for our entertainment and salvation.  The music is good even if the inhabitants can be crazy.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/21/politics/russia-intercontinental-ballistic-missile-test/index.html

“Russia carried out a test of an intercontinental ballistic missile that appears to have failed around the time President Joe Biden was in Ukraine, according to two US officials familiar with the matter.”

“Russia notified the United States in advance of the launch through deconfliction lines under its New START treaty obligations, one official said, adding that “such testing is routine.” Another official said that the test did not pose a risk to the United States and that the US did not view the test as an anomaly or an escalation.”

“The test of the heavy SARMAT missile – nicknamed the Satan II in the West and capable of delivering multiple nuclear warheads – appears to have failed, officials said. It has been successfully tested before and had this one worked, US officials believe Russian President Vladimir Putin would have highlighted the test in his State of the Nation address on Tuesday.”

https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/22/entertainment/ben-platt-antisemitic-protesters-parade-broadway-cec/index.html

“Audiences at the first preview of the Broadway revival of “Parade,” a musical about the dangers of hatred, were met by a group of antisemitic protesters, who gathered outside the theater before the show, said Ben Platt, a Tony Award winner who stars in the musical.”

“Platt, who plays Leo Frank, a Jewish man who faced antisemitic hate in 1900s Georgia, said the protesters harassed audience members on their way into the theater and said hateful things about Frank, “spreading antisemitic rhetoric that led to this whole story in the first place.”

“Parade” follows the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory superintendent in Georgia who was accused and eventually convicted of murdering a young factory employee in 1913. Though Frank maintained his innocence throughout his trial, he was kidnapped from prison and lynched by a mob. Per the New Georgia Encyclopedia, his trial was a “miscarriage of justice” fueled by antisemitism in the South, among other social issues.”

“It doesn’t end with antisemitism,” Myers said. “From antisemitism, it moves on to another minority group and another minority group until there’s no one left to call out because all of the groups are no longer around.”

“When you’ve spent your life screaming at Fox News in bars and hotels and your house, and then the emails finally come out that say, ‘Oh yeah, everything you thought about them is worse than you thought!’” Stewart said at the top of his latest podcast episode Wednesday, before ultimately arriving at the conclusion, “They are who we thought they are… which is the worst.”

patd – I salute you for doing the sacrifice of strictly champagne.  A very difficult restriction of diet and habit it is.  Brings back memories of 2007-9 when the Great Recession/Depression hit.  Liquor stores in my area were trying to get rid of the pricey champage to keep a cash flow going.  I enjoyed quite expensive bubbly for about forty cents on the dollar.

At the time I was starting to date again.  “Candy is dandy, but, liquor is quicker”.  I would show up with a bottle of champagne and a couple of champagne flutes.  “Keep the glasses for next time”.  Ah those heady times when I was in my fifties.

Ever since Jimmy Carter announced he was doing hospice a little question came off the critter on my left shoulder. Not something for polite company you understand.  But, here is a different company. Jimmy is a real Christian (feels good to actually use a capital letter), an honest man, a man who will offer a seat at the table for the dirty monster cousin nobody likes.

Will sfb be invited to the funeral or memorial?

Or told about it a week later?

BB – I asked that when he went on hospice.   Can he be disinvited?

Also, do we have to pay for a State funeral when it’s his turn?

Speaking of little guys who ride around on shoulders giving advice, one of mine is mentioning that i might want to be a little more accepting of this global warming deal seeing as how it’s February and it’s 82 degrees outside.    I tell him to shut up but he don’t listen.

So I understand dumbass went to Ohio today to visit the scene of the crime. I’m sure he had some absolutely asinine comments to make.

Lent. I’ll give up this lent what I give up every lent – giving up shit for lent. I was raised in a Presbyterian household, and we didn’t do “give up stuff for Lent.” When I grew up and acknowledged that I no longer was Presbyterian, and in fact, Jesus Christ was not my Lord and Savior, I didn’t pick up any new Catholic-based religious rituals. In a sense you might say I gave up Lent. Don’t know of any reason I want to pick it up now.

And tonight, along with the moon, Jupiter and Venus are in the house. You really gotta love the ecliptic don’t you?

Well, Joe or Pete should’ve made an appearance in Ohio long ago, but yeah, they need to point out that tRUMPsky’s dismantling of RR regulations helped make this disaster possible.  Pointing fingers is not a fix, though.

ps – It’s the oil.  They don’t want to talk about the oil.

https://newrepublic.com/post/170727/trump-deregulated-railroad-industry-lies-people-ohio-visit

“When later asked by a reporter about his administration overturning an Obama-era rule requiring better braking systems for trains carrying hazardous materials, he lied again, saying his administration had nothing to do with it.”

“With his party buttressed by millions of dollars in donations and lobbying from companies like Norfolk Southern, Trump overturned an Obama-era rule that required more adequate braking systems for trains carrying highly flammable and hazardous materials (instead of the Civil War-era brakes trains use now). He pulled a stalled Obama-era proposal that would have directed companies to have at least two-man crews on trains and banned states from instating such a requirement themselves. He also halted an auditing program of railroads that has since been revitalized by the Biden administration.”

“The common denominator of it all is a conservative politics that argues that the government is weak, and therefore weakens the government in order to prove it at all. So, as Trump visits East Palestine, and as fellow deregulation-chasing Republicans (and even conservative Democrats) may posture themselves as the benevolent voices on the issue, may we not allow them to weasel off the hook so easily.”

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/norfolk-southern-eliminated-key-maintenance-role-in-derailment-region-union-says

“Norfolk Southern eliminated key maintenance role in derailment region, union says”

“It’s unclear if any hot-box detector prior to East Palestine notified crews. A surveillance video shared on Facebook from an industrial facility in Salem, Ohio, about 20 miles from East Palestine, suggests the train’s axle was already on fire.”

“A device that can play a role in preventing derailments is the wayside hot-box detector. It uses infrared sensors to detect bearings, axles or other components of a rail car that are overheating, then uses radio signals to flag rail crews of any overheated components.”

“Norfolk Southern did not respond to a request for comment, and the FRA declined to comment on the record.”
