His Very Best

An apt title for a *biography about a barefoot boy who became a Naval Academy graduate, a nuclear submariner., a peanut farmer, a president, a builder of homes for the needy and a global promotor for human rights and peace.

Last night Rachel Maddow reported this which illustrates and confirms the book’s title:

Rachel Maddow tells the story of a young Navy lieutenant from Georgia named Jimmy who played a key role in helping prevent a nuclear catastrophe in 1952.

  1. BTW, something else of note by rachel last night, a something of the opposition protest kind that putie would never let happen in his country:

Rachel Maddow Calls Out The Doomed Pro-Putin Republicans (politicususa.com)

Rachel Maddow on the pro-Putin GOP, “It is not clear in political terms what the big constituency is for this stuff. But that is where at least the Trump and the Trump-ish wing of the Republican party says they are on this issue. And good luck to them with it.”

  2. someone else NOT their best let alone their very best was kevin giving away surveillance tapes exposure to the tucker and most likely his buddy putin.  as claire mccaskill pointed out yesterday that was a very dangerous security breach and will mean massive relocations of security cameras in the capitol.  am sure those who are planning another jan6 in 2024 will be pleased to see otherwise protected info on the complex.

  3. It was one thing when Fox Murdoch only offered ridiculous support for gop–it’s quite another when they as a network are red hands down offering aid and support to an enemy power.
Way past time to fix their wagon, clean their clock, and eat their lunch.

    Ceterum censeo FOX esse delendam.

    It’s time.

  4. https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/trump-east-palestine-visit-railroad-regulations-20230219.html

“The signature policy wins by the one-term 45th president — a tax cut that targeted corporations and the wealthy and a deregulation drive to boost profits over the environment — arguably did more to hurt East Ohio than help it.”

“…the Feb. 3 wreck of the Norfolk Southern train carrying cancer-causing chemicals and the ensuing images of a toxic mushroom cloud over East Palestine is a crisis that the Former Guy sees as an opportunity to jump-start his so-far-low-energy bid to return to the White House.”

“…Trump aides say their boss is planning to visit East Palestine and meet with community leaders there on Wednesday. Team Trump is clearly hoping to seize on a wave of carping about neglect of Ohio’s white working class from far-right pundits and pols like extremist GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

“…if residents of East Palestine — a modern news desert of downsized or disappeared news sources, which allows misinformation to fester — truly knew the reality, a delegation of townsfolk would likely greet Trump with Tiki torches and pitchforks…”

I hope they do know tRUMPsky is to blame for deregulation and they boo the m-effer.

  5. https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/town-hall-sandwiched-between-trump-brockovich-visits/

“River Valley Organizing is hosting a town hall this week sandwiched in between the visits of former President Trump and Erin Brockovich.”

“There will be researchers and law experts there to answer questions.”

“River Valley Organizing is also announcing its first steps to independently test soil and water.”

Hmmm, maybe Erin Brochavich can speak to deregulation of the railroads, and also the toxicity of the petroleum industry. Surely, those folks will trust her more than the orange guy.

  6. My hubby, Rick, adores Jimmy Carter.  Thinks he was the best president in his lifetime (that he remembers).  He has been a member of the Carter Center for years.  Every Christmas he gets a Christmas card that is signed by Jimmy and Rosalyn….  and no… it’s not stamped…   they actually sign the cards.

Craig…  I will show him that picture you posted.  He will love it!

As for the pro Putin repubs on Rachel last night.  She showed a shot of Tulsi Gabbard addressing them.  Guess Hillary knew what she was talking about when Gabbard ran for prez and Hillary accused her of being a Russian agent.  Hell….  Tulsi isn’t even trying to hide it any longer…

  7. That dude just whipped out a sword, brandishing it while standing within 3 feet of  the president.

  8. https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/east-palestine-train-derailment/whats-causing-the-oil-sheen-in-east-palestine-streams/

“The rainbow sheen that you see on those news clips, that’s totally typical of oil in the stream,” said Dr. Robert Knox, presidential professor and director of the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma.”

“Petroleum lube oil was listed as an oil that was on board the derailed train and one of the cars it was stored in lost an entire load, as well as several other cars that breached and leaked the oil.”

“The natural stream does not do that, and yes I’ve heard about, they say well it could be biological processes, no, if it can stir like they show on those videos, that’s oil filled contamination. How did that get into the stream?” Knox said.

“West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said that chemicals from the train derailment have spilled into the Ohio River, which serves as a drinking water source for more than five million people.”

“Officials in West Virginia have said that the water has been tested and is safe to drink.”

“However, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s website, “A harmful quantity is any quantity of discharged oil that violates state water quality standards, causes a film or sheen on the water’s surface, or leaves sludge or emulsion beneath the surface.”

They keep talking about what they are not finding when they test the air and water, but they don’t want to talk about the petroleum that spilled in Ohio.

  9. putie’s pals last night

Former presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard provides insight on the Russia-Ukraine war on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.’

  10. Bennie Thompson rips McCarthy for giving Tucker Carlson Jan. 6 footage | The Hill

“If Speaker McCarthy has indeed granted Tucker Carlson — a Fox host who routinely spreads misinformation and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s poisonous propaganda — and his producers access to this sensitive footage, he owes the American people an explanation of why he has done so and what steps he has taken to address the significant security concerns at stake,” Thompson said.

  11. That civil war bullshit is exactly what is going to bite them on the ass the second there actuallty starts to be one.  That is a poll of cretinous human ignorance.

They’re standing in a crowd of like-minded morons while bellowing “civil war”, but when the ice cream turns to feces there’ll be a different story.

  12. Kevin McCarthy, aiding and abetting Russia’s propaganda outlet, Fox Noise.
What right did Comrade Kevin have to give that footage only to Fox, or to anyone at all?   Did he break any laws in doing so?

And, yeah, rewriting/editing history may not be the only reason they requested the footage. (I’m assuming Fox asked for it?  Or, did the request come directly from Fluffy? Why would Kev just offer it?)  It’s for recon work to know where cameras are located and how to take them out next time the GQP invades the halls of democracy.

    Kevin is commie scum.

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/20/politics/kevin-mccarthy-tucker-carlson-january-6-footage/index.html

“Several GOP lawmakers within McCarthy’s ranks had hoped to review the material themselves, likely to hunt for footage that supports their controversial claims about the January 6 insurrection. By giving the videos to Carlson, McCarthy is essentially outsourcing the task to right-wing media, at least for the moment.”

“The now-defunct January 6 committee got access to all the security footage from US Capitol Police during its investigation, but did not release certain clips for security reasons. A source familiar with the panel’s work told CNN that the unreleased footage was considered especially sensitive because it showed the movements of top officials while they evacuated to safety.”

So, it’s not just camera positions, now they need to find new routes to move folks to safety…even Kevin’s sorry ass.

  13. https://reasonstobecheerful.world/data-center-heat-green-energy/

“Data centers contain servers, which produce heat as they process information. The bigger the data center, the more heat emitted. In Amazon’s Tallaght data center, this heat is drawn from the servers into an “air handling unit,” where a coil of cold water cools it. The water, its own temperature now having risen to about 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit), then passes through a pipe to an energy center just outside the warehouse, where several heat pumps condense it until its temperature rises to 85 degrees Celsius (185 degrees Fahrenheit), or 70 C / 158 F degrees in warm weather. The system then pumps this scalding hot water through pipes to its destinations, where it enters the buildings’ own heating systems.”

“Because the water must be piped to its destinations –– and stay hot while in transit –– district heating systems are best suited to areas with what O’Shea calls a “high heat-demand density.”

“Local organizations and residents in Tallaght, one of the poorest areas of Dublin, will then be able to access heat 10 to 15 percent cheaper than alternatives once connected.”

“Long return-on-investment is really not appealing to companies,” Jouhara said.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine may be changing this, however. Rising energy prices are generating increased interest in district heating systems, which have become more cost competitive. Last year, Jouhara’s economic analysis of one steel plant revealed that it could take 28 months for the company to earn its investment back. When he recalculated this year, it was 13 months. His phone, he says, is now ringing off the hook with calls from industry executives. “They have been chasing me since the beginning of the war.”

  14. … ventured over to the right -wing cesspool known as “Twitter”, and all the rethuglican criticism of Biden’s trip is just plain asinine- one dopey GQP house rep claimed Biden “created” the Ukrainian war-zone, as if it wasn’t Putin that militarily invaded a sovereign nation, because these people need it explained to them

i won’t even bother trying to report on the even nuttier spite-supremacists’ rantings, because as you can imagine, it’s all just baseless, incendiary-for-the-sake-of-it nonsense, as depressing as it is inane

i don’t always want to vote Democrat, but these looney Republicans just don’t give me any other option

Slava Ukraine, God Bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇦

  15. Jimmy’s involvement in Habitat for Humanity had a great deal to do with Mrs. P & I becoming regular donors and customers of Habitat. They don’t take clothing, but anything else we ever have that is in even semi-decent shape goes to Habitat, and we’ve bought more than our share of stuff from their thrift store over the past few years.  Their work definitely benefits low income folks in the Western MD/NE WV area, and they have a terrific auction each Spring that’s a ton of fun if the weather cooperates and a half ton if it doesn’t.

  16. Pogo – you just reminded me why I bought a lot of things from the Denver Habitat for Humanity store.  When they would take a house apart they would store much of the hardware, doors, windows and other flotsam in the back warehouse.  Shopping there was a treat.  Also, the regular donated goods were nice.

  17. https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/21/business/howard-schultz-unions/index.html

“I don’t think a union has a place in Starbucks,” he said. “If a de minimis group of people … file for a petition to be unionized, they have a right to do so. But we as a company have a right also to say, we have a different vision that is better.”

Guess who else votes. Customers. With their dollars. In this economy, I wouldn’t buy stock in luxury coffee, either. It’s a small luxury, but coffee is cheaper and better at home. I think if it as vacation coffee, but I already refused to cross a picket line last year. We just waited until we got to a restaurant to have coffee.

  18. The nuclear reactor story is astonishing as only Rachel can tell it. Got to meet Jimmy once through my friend who was his fellow board member with Habitat for Humanity. The board meeting was public and provided a glimpse into “a President at work” which otherwise I can only imagine.

  19. Some peoples, upon hearing the phrase, “You won’t be too surprised”, would merely assume that there’s no orange indictment.
Also how did such a wise-ass get on the grand jury.

  20. A few Ukrainian and Russian sites are reporting that there will be trouble sleeping over night is some invaded parts of Ukraine. A plus is the russian air defense is working overtime.  A way to recognize a year of invasion by terrorists.

Nikki Hayley and the Palmetto bugs-

“Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley defended states’ rights to secede from the United States, South Carolina’s Confederate History Month and the Confederate flag in a 2010 interview with a local activist group that “fights attacks against Southern Culture.”

“Haley, who was running for South Carolina governor at the time, made the comments during an interview with the now defunct “The Palmetto Patriots,” a group which included a one-time board member of a White nationalist organization.”

I don’t know about her family, but mine fought for the Union in the 1800s and against the Nazis in the 1900s.

  22. Okay, whole lot going on. Strange one was the mythical ranking of presidents.  Jesus Alou.  Yes. I agree President Biden is on the chart. I am certain he ranks well above SFB.  But we are too close to the action to make a determination
