politico:

The White House has withdrawn its nomination of Elizabeth Klein to become the Interior Department’s deputy secretary, as the Biden administration faced push back from Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, sources familiar with the situation said Monday.

Details: Klein is a former Obama administration official and deputy director of the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center at the New York University School of Law who focused on renewable energy and climate change issues. …

[…]

Tommy Beaudreau, a former Interior official under the Obama administration and Alaskan native, is being vetted for a possible nomination as deputy secretary, said two people familiar with the matter. Murkowski floated Beaudreau’s name as a possible replacement for Klein, the people said.

Beaudreau is currently a lawyer at law firm Latham & Watkins’ environment, land & resources department, and global co-chair of the firm’s project siting & approvals practice. Beaudreau did not reply to a voice message.

Context: Murkowski earlier in March said she struggled in deciding to cast her vote to clear from committee Biden’s nomination of Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, citing concerns that the administration would hobble oil and gas production on public land. Klein, a progressive on energy matters, was considered a step too far to serve as second in charge at Interior with Haaland, who had faced heat from Republicans on her past comments criticizing the oil and gas sector, one of the sources said.

here’s a profile on tommy from columbia SIPA center on global energy policy:

Tommy Beaudreau is a partner in the Environment, Land & Resources Department of Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Beaudreau joined the Obama Administration in June 2010 to assist in leading the Department of the Interior’s reforms following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.  During his six-and-a-half years at the Interior Department, Mr. Beaudreau had broad responsibility for overseeing conventional and renewable energy policy and programs on public lands and offshore.  He served in several high-level leadership positions, including as the first Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (2011-2014), as Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management (2013-2014), and as Interior Secretary Sally Jewell’s Chief of Staff from 2014 to January 2017.

in case you think you’ve seen that name before, recall this from 2013 reported by marinelink:

U.S. Auctions Renewable Energy Sites in Federal Waters

As part of President Obama’s comprehensive plan to move our economy toward domestic clean energy sources and cut carbon pollution, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Director Tommy P. Beaudreau has held the nation’s first-ever competitive lease sale for renewable energy in federal waters. The provisional winner of the lease sale, which auctioned two leases for a Wind Energy Area of 164,750 acres offshore Rhode Island and Massachusetts for wind energy development, is Deepwater Wind New England, LLC. When built, these areas could generate enough combined energy to power more than one million homes. “When you think about the enormous energy potential that Atlantic wind holds, this is a major milestone for our nation,” said Secretary Jewell.

for those who missed deb’s speech at 2020 convention

Rep. Deb Haaland of New Mexico addressed Democrats on Aug. 20 during the final night of the Democratic National Convention. The coronavirus pandemic upended both parties’ traditional conventions. Instead of in-person events, the program each night features a number of speakers and musical performances virtually across the country.

The second meeting of the Deb Haaland fan club is already in session.  I must’ve overslept.

it will be interesting to see what justice gorsuch will say if that missouri river matter comes before scotus.  remember this as reported by NPR ?

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the eastern half of Oklahoma is, and has been for nearly two centuries, a Native American Indian reservation. The 5-4 decision fell along ideological lines, with Justice Neil Gorsuch, the only justice from the western U.S., siding with the court’s liberal bloc.
In a 42-page decision penned by Justice Gorsuch, the court reasoned that because Congress never disestablished the Native American reservation—established through a series of treaties with granting all land West of the Mississippi River to the “the Creek Nation of Indians—that land remains a Native American reservation.
“Today we are asked whether the land these treaties promised remains an Indian reservation for purposes of federal criminal law. Because Congress has not said otherwise, we hold the government to its word,” Gorsuch wrote.
[…]
Gorsuch last year also provided the decisive vote when the court ruled in favor of Native American rights, holding that a nineteenth century treaty did not expire when Wyoming became a U.S. state.

Craig – I couldn’t  see your link.

(Most of the headlines about her swearing in were about what she was wearing.  Yes, it had meaning, but I wonder if the many headlines of a man’s swearing in would be fashion.)

In Denmark, anyone over 15 will need a ‘rona passport to do most things even, as Corey would say, get their hair did.

Meanwhile, my company is limping along because the bar was set so low for the number of employees. Great for mom-and-pop but not for every small business.

I hate looking at victim lists.  Yesterdays list includes no familiar names.  I have not talked to my family yet to find out if they knew anyone on the list.  There is no reason to own a weapon like or similar to an M-16/M-4/AK-47.

Reasonable folks would know she was lying about election fraud?  That’s quite an argument about yourself there, counselor.

Sidney Powell should be disbarred.  She was not stating opinion about Dominion voting machines – she was stating what she did as fact. I doubt that if you went back and looked at her remarks you would ever find the phrase “I believe” or “I think” preceding any of her remarks.  And remember she was with Rudy promising to present evidence of the fraud she was claiming related to the Dominion systems machines in Court – but it never happened. Hard to say how this turns out, though because defamation is notoriously difficult to prove because of the intent element.

What she said shows she’s not totally insane, she was just lying her ass off.

Eric Talley, the Colorado policeman who died in the shoot out was in the news once before.  It gives you a measure of the man who lived up to protect and serve.

Poobah, sorry to hear about your dad. Been there. Make the most of his time. Barbecue, enjoy your dad’s favorite drinks, laugh, blow money on his favorite restaurants. You won’t get the time lost back.
