The Implosion Of The Republican Party

Lovely watching spineless GOP senators wimp out, giving in to the Trumpism that cost them control of the House, the Senate and the White House. Go for it dumb butts. Acquit the idiot who got you here, out of power in Congress and facing more losses next year:

Republicans are defending 20 Senate seats in 2022, three of them open races due to retirements (NC, OH, PA). Democrats defend 14, all held by strong incumbents. Good luck with keeping Trump in charge of your party.

“Mitch McConnell prayed to god that he wouldn’t be the biggest asshole in Ky. So god created Rand Paul”

KGC, thanks for the borowitz quote.

good joke, but last night it’s likely mcconnell’s prayers were more about leahy’s health and saving mitch’s own asshole —  VT has a republican gov

and remember the discussions back when bernie was thinking of swapping jobs? this from american prospect last year:

By any estimation, Vermont is a deep-blue state. Both of its senators, Bernie Sanders and Patrick Leahy, caucus with Democrats, as does its solitary House member, Peter Welch. If you include independent progressives who caucus with Democrats in the state legislature, both chambers enjoy Democratic supermajorities with veto override power. That’s important, because there’s one crucial seat in Vermont not under Democratic control: the governorship. That belongs to Republican Phil Scott, who won the seat in 2016.
[…]
The Republican governor, Scott, would then be tasked with making a temporary appointment during the first 100 days of the Sanders administration, before the special election, which must be held within six months…

The primaries could get interesting since virtually every sane Republican is either running for the hills or not up for re-election for at least four years.

I thought I saw somebody filing a complaint that SFB was using the seal of the president in his little pretend office.

sturge, you mean this mojo castigation of senators who are debating process instead of debating about “people in your midst who have called for the assassination of members of congress….we’re talking about people coming to the capitol to try to  kill the vice president”

Well, the momentary sag in the Covid-19 death rate was just that – momentary.  While the 7 day average dipped from 3347 to 3015 last week, it’s back at 3328 now, and if yesterday is any indication, hang on.  Here’s the week over week numbers as of today, courtesy of Wapo:

New daily reported cases fell 16.4%
New daily reported deaths rose 10.4%
Covid-related hospitalizations fell 10.4%

Among reported tests, the positivity rate was 9.1%.
The number of tests reported fell 7.6% from the previous week.

Fewer people are getting tested and fewer people are contracting the virus, but the death rate… within 19/day of the previous high – which was on January 17.

Happiness is a short squeeze that works.  Right now the Game Stop price is destroying a lot of short sellers.  The hedge funds are taking it and are unhappy about it.  Looks like the squeeze is getting ready to finish as the price is now bouncing or frothy at the highs.  You can tell where someone is about short sellers and hedge funds, they either are enjoying the action or are screaming for shutting down the squeeze.  Too bad on that as a lot of shorts are still buying to cover.  Power to the people.

I was totally bummed out yesterday verging on a blue funk.   But today there was the DAILY press briefing. What a breath of fresh air!  I feel much better. Jen Psaki is really good! Compared to Saunders or Spicer, et. al., there’s NO comparison! I know a lot about what’s going on, but I never could cover the topics she did so quickly and coherently. Love it!

I love all the climate change talk and changes they’re talking about. Kerry even used the word pollution, which is good.  I have a cousin in WV who’s an electrician at a steel mill in the Ohio Valley.  It’s a shell of what it once was, he says. Only running one line, no blast furnaces.  It’s mostly a finishing mill and is being bought out, again. He could be an electrician in a wind mill company or a solar or hydro company just as well as an outdated steel mill.  So, yes jobs are jobs.

My blue funk yesterday cane from the continuing maga craziness in the congress and at some states’ gop’s.  I’d like for Cruz and the other crazies to finish the thought.  What do they envision American to look like under Trump? Under a dictator? I want to hear that.

Also, there’s much talk about how nutty it is for Cruz, et. al., to continue to support trump because, presumably, they’ll be running for president against him or one of his spawn in 2022 – 2024.  Then what? LOL… crazy. Rubio vs Ivanka in 2022?

FYI:  My son has gotten both vaccine shots, thank the gods.  The first one was only the usual sore arm.  The second one he said he was fine that day.  The next day he felt crummy with fatigue and sore muscles.  He was fine the day after that.

Craig, exactly! patd, yep!

Apparently NONE of the secretaries in the previous administration did ANY work.  Especially anyone connected with covid 19.   They were paid for doing nothing. Compare the last 4 YEARS to this administration’s first few WEEKS.

Corporations hate tRUMPsky.  Republicans  don’t care about the American people, but they do care about corporate donors.    LP needs to reassemble and get on this to wake up Mitch and his critterz.

It’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.  Republicans seem to be hell-bent on fostering more of the same.
The sound or corporate money drying up is the only thing that will get their attention.
Republicans don’t care that tRUMPsky incited a mob to attack those in the Capitol.  Republicans don’t care that a police officer was bludgeoned to death.  Republicans don’t care about democracy or the lives of Americans. Republicans don’t care.
