This argument that Trump’s adultery is “Baked in the Cake” with voters is ridiculous. Before the 2016 election voters did not know he used thugs to silence and threaten women, or violate campaign finance laws to pay off frightened accusers. Spare us the specious claim voters knew this.
Hello Midterms! The voters are coming.
odd, but understandable
huffpo: Kellyanne Conway’s Husband Is Going Rogue
[…]
The March 23 tweet below received the most attention of the bunch, as it refers to a job that Kellyanne had been rumored to be under consideration for.
@gtconway3d
So true. It’s absurd. Which is why people are banging down the doors to be his comms director. https://twitter.com/kaitlancollins/status/977173839871467522 …
10:48 AM – Mar 23, 2018
The Hill even briefly published a short post on the tweet, which can still be found in Google’s cache here. At some point in the hours that followed its publication, however, The Hill removed the story. The original link now takes you to a page reading, “Access denied.”
Whatever additional attention Conway has received over his flurry of Twitter activity certainly hasn’t slowed him down. Is George Conway so fed up with Trump’s assaults on the legal profession — his profession — that he simply can’t hold his feelings inside any longer? Would it be too wild a leap for a Trump Kremlinologist to think this might be a prelude to Kellyanne Conway’s own White House departure? What are dinnertime conversations like at the Conway household, one wonders?
We’ve reached out to George Conway and the White House for comment, but have not heard back. In the meantime, George, know you’re not alone.
bink, similar to your apology to flatus last night, my admonishment to come up with solutions rather than “just whining and blaming everyone else” was NOT meant to chastise only you but to wag a finger at all of us (including mostly me) to stop dredging up old sins expending energy on divisiveness, to learn from our own mistakes and to look for ways to go forward.
evidently twit doesn’t believe the old proverb “He Who Is His Own Lawyer Has a Fool for a Client”
politicus noted an interesting point made last night :
Rachel Maddow called it “astonishing” that Donald Trump ditched his top Russia lawyer so far along in the Russia investigation, suggesting that it could ultimately sink the president as Robert Mueller’s probe reaches its conclusion.
“It’s astonishing when you add in the fact that other people in the Trump administration who are not the president have been able to get themselves real lawyers. I mean, the Vice President, Mike Pence, he has a Russia lawyer. He has a real Russia lawyer, a real lawyer named Richard Cullen. Hope Hicks, recently resigned White House Communications Director, not yet 30 years old, she’s got a real lawyer. Robert Trout is her lawyer. He’s the real deal. Reince Priebus, former chief of staff; Steve Bannon, former chief strategist; Don McGahn, who for some reason is still White House counsel – they’re all utilizing a guy named William Burke as their Russia lawyer. William Burke is the real deal. He’s a real lawyer. Jared Kushner has got freaking Abby Lowell. If you had a friend in Washington who was facing very serious legal trouble as a public official, you would want Abby Lowell to be your friend’s lawyer. I don’t know whether or not you feel friendly toward Jared Kushner, but that’s the situation he’s in right now both in terms of who his lawyer is and how much trouble it looks like he might be in. It appears that his sort of lawyer firepower is matching his legal liability.”
Craig… are you chastising Lawrence O’ Donnell for stating that phrase last night? He said those exact words about trump’s affairs “being baked in the cake”… but basically made the same argument as you… everyone knew before the election that trump has had numerous affairs… but no one knew he was sending thugs to silence the women or that he probably broke campaign finance laws.
But I have no doubt that if those who voted for him had known, it wouldn’t have made a difference. They shrugged off everything trumpty dumpty said or did.
rr, cartoonists agree with you. see above
Evangelicals make a deal with the devil | Sheneman cartoon
and another
The attitude behinds those cartoons is exactly the kind of thing Faux & other alt-right outlets will use to keep folks under the Repug tent. Don’t go there. Bad idea. It’s “a basket if deplorables” all over, again. Blane Trump, Putin, news media who glom onto things that aren’t serious because they want to be in the entertainment business, but it’s not a good idea to blame an entire group of folks who may or may not have had info.
Can Teen Vogue & Emma Gonzales sue the ever-loving crap out of the folks who doctored the gun target to look like The Constitution? Can they just say, joking/not joking, because it sure seems like they are shilling for the NRA.
I have been curious why the amount $130,000 was paid. Why not $200,000? Or $100,000? Perhaps even $150,000? It is such an odd amount that something else was in play. But what? Perhaps Cohn wanted to pay more and SFB refused, or maybe Cohn wanted to pay less, but SFB said more. I hope this be answered sometime before the end of the trial.
This morning someone floated the idea that the virgin Stormy has a dress, à la the virgin Monica. I am enjoying the slow drip of hints and detritus to the events. This has to be burning through the orange blob of a man-child like Thai chili’s through someone who has never eaten anything hotter then an extra twist of the handle of a black pepper mill.
So much for a spoiled dress. The virgin Stormy’s attorney just killed the story. He said no dress. Perhaps, shaving the knife edge of language, there is a skirt or blouse?
BB – I wondered that, as well, and thought that, perhaps, an odd amount wouldn’t look like a payoff as much as a round number. Or, maybe that’s all he could get from of his home equity.
what’s the equivalent of $130,000 in pounds, euros or roubles? might be a clue… and another laundry format.
Jamie, our owl devotee, a special story & vid from the guardian this morning for you:
Owls of laughter as winged ring-bearer attacks best man
Bird appears to take exception to wedding guest ‘absolutely petrified of anything that flies’

so if Trump’s adultery is “Baked in the Cake” it’s beyond imagination what could possibly turn up as the icing
Would Xi invite Kim to China (ahead of a possible meeting between NK & the US) because of Trumpsky’s tariff challenge?
I’m assuming China already props up NK in some way, so, is this face-to-face for optics…or is this something worse?
Great interview with Chelsea Manning on Democracy Now! I would absolutely vote for her for senate – she is running in Md.
Icing being a euphemism for Trumpsky’s…eeeeew.
I’m sure there must be copies of that DVD, but would team Trump be foolish enough to try to find the whereabouts of that safe & break into it? Was there a video burned onto a DVD as insurance? Why would she hold it back for so long?
Is Cohen the only one in trouble campaign finance laws were broken?
I still think Kushner is the ~brains~ behind the whole thing, behind Trump running in the first place because it would be beneficial to him and his parents. He is a first-class tool.
Nah..the big giant tax cheeto has been talking about running long before Jared showed up.
But I am sure Jared is happy to take advantage of the situation. After all he comes from a crime family including his father setting up his own brother-in-law.
BiD, bingo! kim is Xi’s ace in the hole (or card up his sleeve). not just leverage in the tariff rift, but what about the dredged up islands, IT issues, present debts or future financial deals with china and other deals dear to Xi.
heck, Xi wouldn’t hesitate to trade the worrisome little guy for some major goodies to enhance china ascendancy.
Well that’s not a secret North Korea has a mutual aid pact with China — they are each other’s best friends and in the case of North Korea their only friend.
off topic, but good discussion with nola mayor mitch last night
But, is this trip just for optics? (We don’t actually know if Kim is really on spring break in China, since it’s all so hush-hush. A little too under wraps, maybe?)
I just wonder if there are any plans in the works that they couldn’t handle through electronic means or emissaries?
Pissing off Double-down Donny isn’t a good thing for any of us, if what they are doing is trying to send a message with the impression of a visit by Kim to China.
I just reactivated my FB page and downloaded the history file on my usage. Not much there as I do little on FB. There are a few friends who use it exclusively as it is the easiest way to communicate almost anywhere on the planet, and they are almost all over the planet on their boats. Although I do not like FB, and never have, using it originally only for my campaign, I decided to continue with my limited use. There were a couple of blank pages, and only a half dozen advertisers, all I actually used.
Some of the funniest are when it is trying to figure out where I was, none of where I actually was. I typically have a VPN going on my phones and Amazon Fire, so the location is all over the place. I guarantee I have never been to Ghana.
To download your FB history go to the Settings down arrow, click it, a page opens up, look to the bottom for a link to downloading your history or archive. Click that and follow the instructions.
And for grins a scam hit as soon as I opened this morning. I did not apply for nor receive a fund from the National Endowment of the Humanities. It is not good to use a copy of the account of a person who is dead to scam his friends.
Mitch has been out and about quite a bit lately. My favorite Mitch moment came in an interview with Rachel Maddow. She made a big point of calling Na’leans and he made an equally big point of pronouncing it New Orleans. pretty funny.
New Orleans and Louisiana are widely known as the most corrupt governments in the US. At least in New Orleans that does seem to be changing.
heh heh
KGC… ROTFLMAO!
Danny Zuker trashing a large group of people who desperately need trashing.
I want to sincerely thank all the “Family Values Voters” still supporting Trump for finally admitting all their moral outrage at Democrats over the last 3 decades was total bullshit. You really had me going there!
Ladies, prostitutes are sex-workers. That pair are whores.
They aren’t giving it away; they’re for sale (or rent) to the highest bidder.
pair? I see three of ’em…whores that is
per Webster’s 3rd definition: a venal or unscrupulous person
Raleigh, N.C. – Here are the highlights of Public Policy Polling’s newest national poll.
[….]
Donald Trump
Donald Trump has one of the worst approval ratings we’ve found for him since he took office this month, with only 39% of voters approving of the job he’s doing to 54% who disapprove. 54% of voters wish Barack Obama was still President, to only 40% who are glad that Trump is.
Trump fares poorly on several basic leadership metrics. 52% of voters characterize him as a ‘liar,’ to 41% who disagree with that description. 57% of voters still want to see his tax returns, to only 38% who are alright with him keeping them private. And just 38%
think he has delivered on his core promise to ‘Make America Great Again,’ to 54% who say he has not.
In hypothetical match ups for reelection Trump trails Joe Biden 56-39, Bernie Sanders 55-39, Elizabeth Warren 51-40, Cory Booker 49-39, Kamala Harris 43-39, and Kirsten Gillibrand 42-40. Trump is consistently at 39% or 40% no matter who you poll him against.
Stormy Daniels
We also tested Trump against 2 other hypothetical opponents- although they are one and the same. In groundbreaking research PPP determined that someone’s porn star name costs them 10 points as a candidate for President. Stephanie Clifford leads Trump 42-41 in a hypothetical match up for reelection. But tested under her stage name of Stormy Daniels, she trails Trump 41-32. Trump’s 41% is consistent across the two match ups, but when Clifford shifts to Daniels she loses 10 points of her support.
60% of voters think it’s immoral if Trump had an affair with Daniels, to 21% who say it’s not immoral. Trump voters are pretty divided on the question though- only 41% think it’s immoral if he had an affair with Daniels to 33% who say it’s not and 26% who are not sure.
We also as an experiment asked voters if they think it would be immoral if Bill Clinton had an affair with Daniels. Trump voters think that would be immoral by an 18 point margin (46/28) compared to just the 8 point margin for Trump having an affair with Daniels. Hillary Clinton voters were more consistent, saying it would be immoral for Trump to by a 60 point margin (74/14) and saying it would be immoral for Bill Clinton to by a 62 point margin (75/13). Still the Trump Presidency seems to have shifted the moral standards Republicans hold Bill Clinton to quite a bit compared to what they were 20 years ago.
Where’s the fainting couch? Sarah Sanders lied again during the Press Briefing by stating citizenship question was on the census. Country of birth has always been on the census, but citizenship hasn’t been on it for 70 years.
The mandate is to count all residents on one specific date (usually in April) NOT the number of citizens. Government services and Congressional districting is based on residency not citizenship. Congress Critters represent both citizens and non citizens in their districts.
I didn’t see O’Donnell RR but heard maybe a dozen people use that phrase on CNN and FOX. It’s in somebody’s talking points.
Patd
Thanks for the owl. That was hilarious. Right at the moment I’m concentrating on eagles. Tis the season. The southern crowd have branched or fledged. The DC crowd is at the egg laying/hatching stage. Don’t know what’s up with the midwest. Instead of mated pairs we have a couple of very rare menage a trois and three egg nests. They’re probably Republican.
Why does Donald Jackass Trump hate our troops? Why does he want to waste money earmarked for the US military to build a damned wall we don’t need (because it won’t work)?
Spend money on tech and boots on the ground; enforce laws already on the books to keep actual criminals out of the country.
And what about the incredibly stupid parade
I know it’s true but it is hard to believe that 40% of Americans think he is doing a good job
Jamie – we have had pairs of Bald Eagles scouting our little peninsula for the last four years, but never nesting. Eventually a pair will settle here as all the inland sites will be taken. We are a nice place to nest, lots of trees. Chesapeake Bay fish all around us. Crabs and oysters too, if they are into those. Quite a few mice, but not many feral cats towards the road out, but plenty along the Bay. There is a pair of Brown Eagles who come by, but do not live here. Osprey summer here, but there are plenty of fish for all. And we are all hoping they do move in.
Well, there’s the 1% making out like bandits and his 39% base, so that’s 40%. Nothing has changed.
Roger that, pat- thank you. Also, thank you, pogo, for the kind words.
I’d be willing to bet that 50% of the 40% that claim they approve of Trump’s performance are bullshitting for kicks, because that’s the kind of people they are. The rest watch FoxNews propaganda and wouldn’t know the reality of any current event even if it hit them in the face (which it eventually will).
The folks whining about the thawed out embryos irritate the heck out of me. Were they planning on implanting ALL of them? Just think folks should adopt. So many in foster care who would love a home.
By the way, I love when HRC talks shit on conservatives- they deserve it, and don’t like her anyway. You go, girl!
McConnell and Ryan……I think I may lean towards strumpet for those two
I do wish she’d tripled down on basket of deplorables….tough political call at the time though……she could have refined it and honed in on those…….baskets of deplorables.
But now, I’m sure she will.
basket is too nice — garbage bin is better
If you’re trying to get them to vote Dem, mocking them is not the way to do it…as Hillary found out, even during the primary.
The blue wave gets smaller if you alienate folks.
The Dallas Mayor sees the problem of asking about citizenship on the next census. Ted Cruz thinks it’s a good idea and clearly doesn’t understand (or care) about future funding for education, etc. This might be a good opening for Beto to explain it to him, hopefully, in front of everybody.
They are most assuredly NOT going to vote dem. Under no circumstances you could ever imagine would they vote dem.
Caroline Sunshine? Well, why the heck not.
But some may & some of it is going to be based on how they feel. If they feel unheard (their concerns not respected), how do you think they will feel if they are mocked for their beliefs?
Some bleeding heart liberals are heartless and have very closed minds when it comes to the world views of others.
Right…..same old song and dance……..
closed mind to the views of others sounds like Mike Pence
And she kind of looks like Ivanker…and you know how Donny likes that.
Run away, Miss Sunshine, run!
Ted Cruz is a senator, screw Texas he has other things on his mind. Now if he was a congressman he might feel different as his job might be the one lost if they don’t count everybody.
Jack
HRC’s big mistake was apologizing for the deplorable comment, I’m with Sturge, double down and tell them if they don’t like it quit doing it.
I think it is time for the Democrats to realize that the only person who can do an effective apology was the big dawg. For some reason the world will shout “we forgive you !!!” and it don’t seem to matter what he did. Something about the way he bites on his lip.
Jack
Fine people on both sides?
I’m with Mr Sturgeone. Fine them all.
…saw a bumper sticker the other day: “another one of Trump’s Deplorables”, it said. The coded message being sent is that the driver is racist, anti-immigrant, anti-education, anti-gay, and probably has a gun in the car. That person isn’t concerned with making a better world, they’re just trying to piss people off because of some emotional void. That’s a rather shaky foundation on which to build a political platform, especially a liberal/progressive one.
I hope nothing happens to any of the students organizing due to the attacks by the NRA
That they would even do it and ignore the possible danger is an affront to human decency
Don’t be a bigot, KGC, open your heart to spiteful ideologies that threaten teenagers.
Never
That invisible wall won’t stop hypersonic missles from China (or Chinese hypersonic missiles deployed from NK, more likely)…so spend that money wisely.

I get it.
trump plans to defund our cyber warfare capability and put all the ‘savings’ into an unarmed maginot wall.
china celebrates world domination by night fireworks across the globe as space station comes home. How about the meeting of xi and kim? kim has arrived and just like iran rewarding reagan with a prisoner release? trump will be given peace with n.korea while s.korea buckles to steel standards. Just as xi planned it with the help of digital hitler and his gas station country. Right out of the 2009 book, When China Rules the World.
For over two hundred years we have lived in a western-made world, one where the very notion of being modern was synonymous with being western. The book argues that the twenty-first century will be different: with the rise of increasingly powerful non-Western countries, the west will no longer be dominant and there will be many ways of being modern. In this new era of ‘contested modernity’ the central player will be China.
And those tax cuts? The us of aa had to borrow another $300 billion from china last week.
When I first started commenting on the trail ten years ago, we spent a lot of time talking about over population, etc. As one of the baby boom generation, I see many similarities in what happened in Chaco Canyon many centuries ago. What we can learn from the baby boom of the ancient southwest.
Researchers at Washington State University have detailed one of the greatest baby booms in North American history – a centuries-long “growth blip” among southwestern Native Americans between 500 to 1300 A.D.
The northern Southwest had as many as 40,000 people in the mid-1200s, but within 30 years it was empty, leaving a mystery that has consumed several archaeological careers, including Kohler’s. Perhaps the population got too large to feed itself as climates deteriorated, but as people began to leave, it would have been hard to maintain the social unity needed for defense and new infrastructure, said Kohler.
Whatever the reason, he said, the ancient Puebloans point up that, “population growth has its consequences.”
However, after the steady rise in population, “a crash followed”, said Tim Kohler, WSU Regents professor of anthropology, offering a warning sign to the modern world about the dangers of overpopulation.
Back to the culture wars, the hypocrisy and willful ignorance. I hope young surfing jackasses everywhere can hang ten through midterms. Then we can think about 2020, but trump and the repugs have been waging a fierce (this word is making a big comeback this year) push back on Mr. Mueller and a phony pr job on the economy as the trump slump continues under the patsy potus. Since most repugs singularly watch faux news for their daily reports, the dems have to work harder and across more media. Pew research indicates this.
the ancient Puebloans point up that, “population growth has its consequences.”
bw, sounds like the predecessor and human equivalent to Calhoun’s Behavioral sink , according to wiki the collapse in behavior which resulted from overcrowding. Over a number of years, Calhoun conducted over-population experiments on Norway rats (in 1958–1962)
bw, info like this from the cite you linked needs to be seen more often to wake some people up:
China, which owns more Treasury bonds than any foreign country.
China responded by saying it would fight any trade war “to the end.” When asked by Bloomberg Television whether China was considering scaling back purchases of US debt, China’s ambassador to the United States said, “We are looking at all options.”
China holds $1.17 trillion of US debt. It trimmed those holdings by 1.4% between December and January, the latest data show.
“We do rely on international investors in Asia for a good deal of our Treasury funding. And that is something a lot of eyes are focused on now,” Rieder said.
