The Senate Dem plan: Securing a vote on their preferred 30-day stopgap bill in exchange for helping the House bill, which funds government through September, clear the 60-vote filibuster hurdle even if they ultimately oppose it on final passage

Dem leadership maybe to doing the sit and fret, unable to get up and in front of people to fight back against the facists, but there are a few doing the opposite. AOC has been a leader from the start. Even after being pushed down by former Speaker Pelosi, she has been a bright star. Then the ever reliable Bernie Sanders has gotten his voice and road trips going. Now Tim Walz is starting his road trip.

We finally are having powerful Dems, even if detested by repubs and magats, going out and talking to the people. Not talking above them, but with them. Getting some fight, even if it is prelude to the 2028 presidential elections, is wonderful to see. There are even videos showing up of an occasional Congress person fighting in committees. It is time to bring the working people back into the Dem party, where they belong.

It won’t be easy, but flip a few thousand votes and kick the magats out of government.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has repeatedly posted error-filled data that inflated its success at saving taxpayer money. But after a series of news reports called out those mistakes, the group changed its tactics. It began making its new mistakes harder to find, leaving its already secretive activities even less transparent than before. (New York Times)

We have suffered krasnov and muskovite for about two months, the damage is significant. In spite all their efforts to destroy the U.S. government, the success is lacking. From the New Republic:

Trump’s Former Spiritual Adviser Indicted for Sexually Abusing a Child

The Gateway megachurch founder was indicted for sexual misconduct with a 12-year-old girl.

Robert Morris—the televangelist who “spiritually advised” Trump during his 2016 campaign—has been indicted by a grand jury in Oklahoma on five felony counts of lewd or indecent acts with a 12-year-old girl that began in the 1980s.

“After almost 43 years, the law has finally caught up with Robert Morris for the horrific crimes he committed against me as a child,” said his victim, Cindy Clemishire, now 55 years old.

“It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong,” Morris begrudgingly confessed last year. “This behavior happened on several occasions over the next few years. In March of 1987, this situation was brought to light, and it was confessed and repented of.” Clemishire, however, reported that Morris did indeed attempt to have intercourse with her when she was 16 years old—after having abused her throughout those years.

Clemishire met Morris when she was 11 and he was 20. Morris preached at her church and even stayed in her family’s home during that time. He first abused her on Christmas of her 12th year, telling her, “Never tell anyone about this because it will ruin everything.”

Morris faces up to 100 years in prison if convicted of all counts.

In 2007, the televangelist and megacurch pastor had the gall to blame Clemishire for initiating her own sexual abuse.

“It was your client who initiated inappropriate behavior by coming into my client’s bedroom and getting in bed with him, which my client should not have allowed to happen,” Morris’s lawyer wrote. He also accused Clemishire herself of acting “inappropriately with two other men.” Clemishire was abused by those men as well.

This disgusting predator of a pastor hosted Trump at his megachurch in 2020 and was present at a White House Rose Garden ceremony for Amy Coney Barret’s Supreme Court nomination.

He can pick ‘em can’t he? He knows spiritual advisors, and in fact they have a lot in common.

The FBI has told Citibank that recipients of EPA climate grants are being considered as potentially liable for fraud. That is, the Trump administration wants to criminalize work on climate science and impacts,” the @capitolhunters account wroteWednesday on X. “An incoming administration not only cancels federal grants but declares recipients as criminals. DOGE cuts enforcer is busted secretly filming herself in VERY awkward office videos
McLaurine Pinover has been posting video after video not to justify mass layoffs but to moonlight as an aspiring Instagram fashion influencer to her 800 followers.

In dozens of videos filmed directly inside her official OPM office, Pinover can be seen modeling sleek blazers, $475 skirts, and $300 dresses, tagging posts with #dcstyle and #dcinfluencer, while also linking to commission-based clothing sites.

It appears Pinover has been posting videos of herself blowing kisses to the camera, twirling in ‘work looks,’ and marketing outfits, all from the agency headquarters leading the charge against government inefficiency.

Many of the posts appear to have been published on the very same days thousands of federal employees have been asked to justify their jobs or face termination.

Pinover has only been in her role as communications director for OPM for two months having been appointed in January but in that time she has been a lead voice backing Trump’s sweeping layoffs and buyout offers to tens of thousands of government workers.

Yet from in front of her desk on the fifth floor of OPM’s Washington, DC headquarters Pinover has been filming herself modeling outfits, applying makeup, and typing away on government computers in post after post.

A century ago, a German sociologist explained precisely how Donald Trump thinks about the world, Jonathan Rauch writes: “Trump is installing what scholars call patrimonialism.”

“Even those who expected the worst from his reelection (I among them) expected more rationality,” Rauch writes. “Today, it is clear that what has happened since January 20 is not just a change of administration but a change of regime—a change, that is, in our system of government.”

“Understanding patrimonialism is essential to defeating it. In particular, it has a fatal weakness that Democrats and Trump’s other opponents should make their primary and relentless line of attack,” Rauch writes. “Corruption is patrimonialism’s Achilles’ heel because the public understands it and doesn’t like it,” he continues at the link in our bio. “It is not an abstraction like ‘democracy’ or ‘Constitution’ or ‘rule of law.’ It conveys that the government is being run for them, not for you.”

In its governmental guise, patrimonialism is distinguished by running the state as if it were the leader’s personal property or family business…[Trump] is patrimonialism’s perfect organism. He recognizes no distinction between what is public and private, legal and illegal, formal and informal, national and personal. “He can’t tell the difference between his own personal interest and the national interest, if he even understands what the national interest is,” John Bolton, who served as national security adviser in Trump’s first term, told The Bulwark. As one prominent Republican politician recently told me, understanding Trump is simple: “If you’re his friend, he’s your friend. If you’re not his friend, he’s not your friend.”

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/government-shutdown-2025-senate-democrats-vote/

Senate Democrats are considering a plan that would pave the way for a GOP bill to keep the government fundedfor six months in exchange for a doomed-to-fail vote on their own 30-day alternative, facing an uncomfortable choice between allowing the Republican measure to pass or letting the government shut down.

The plan would call for Democrats to provide the votes needed to advance the GOP bill in exchange for a vote on an amendment with their own one-month stopgap measure, which would almost certainly fail.

Democrats who oppose the GOP version could then vote against its final passage. Some members see it as a way to save face while also avoiding a shutdown.
“I think we’re going to all be ‘no’ on cloture unless we get an agreement to propose at least this 30-day clean [continuing resolution] amendment and maybe a couple of others,” Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia told reporters Thursday morning. “So we’ll be ‘no’ on cloture unless we get an agreement to do that. I’m not aware of whether the Republicans have agreed to that yet, but we’ll be ‘no’ on cloture if we don’t get it, and I think that’s a unified position.”

blueINdallas

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/11/politics/government-funding-bill-spending/index.html

Overall, the measure would boost defense spending by $6 billion compared to fiscal year 2024 and decrease nondefense spending by $13 billion.

The $13 billion decrease in nondefense spending – which Republicans are touting as $13 billion in savings – would stem from the removal of projects or one-time initiatives funded by lawmakers, known as earmarks, in fiscal year 2024, according to a House Appropriations Committee spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the House and Senate have slammed the legislation, saying it would give more leeway to President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to redirect funding as they see fit – a charge the GOP denies.

However, the measure contains some Trump administration requests, including an additional $485 million for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help boost deportations.

The bill also includes a provision that effectively neuters lawmakers’ powers to force a vote on whether to terminate a president’s ability to impose tariffs. That would help Republican members avoid a politically painful up-or-down vote on ending Trump’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

Democrats are taking issue with the GOP’s move to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year with a continuing resolution, arguing that the package does not provide the specific funding directives for many programs and priorities that would be laid out in a negotiated full-year spending bill.

The lack of these directives would make it harder to challenge the Trump administration’s actions in court, Murray and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, said in separate fact sheets.

Plus, the legislation would reduce support for the rural broadband Community Connect program by $30 million, cut nearly $800 million from Veterans Affairs facility construction, eliminate up to $40 million in election security grant funding and trim assistance to farmers to improve their lands and participate in conservation activities by $30 million, according to the Democratic appropriations leaders.

Also, the package would not provide additional funds for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief fund, which will need more money before the end of the fiscal year, Murray and DeLauro said.

The legislation also would reduce some funding for Department of Health and Human Services divisions that run community health centers and other programs and that help people with mental health and substance abuse issues, said Bobby Kogan, senior director of federal budget policy at the left-leaning Center for American Progress. Also, money could be cut for children and family services programs, as well as for aging and disability services programs.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/13/politics/alien-enemies-act-deportation-consideration?cid=external-feeds_iluminar_yahoo

“Trump expected to invoke wartime authority to speed up mass deportation effort in coming days”
The little-known 18th-century law, the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, gives the president tremendous authority to target and remove undocumented immigrants, though legal experts have argued it would face an uphill battle in court.

The law is designed to be invoked if the US is at war with another country, or a foreign nation has invaded the US or threatened to do so. Legal experts say it would be difficult for Trump to use the act when the US isn’t being attacked by a foreign government, even if the administration does cite threats from gangs or cartels.

The primary target remains Tren de Aragua (TDA), a Venezuelan organized crime group that is now operating in the United States and other countries.

The Alien Enemies Act has been invoked three times in US history – all during war – according to the Brennan Center. During World Wars I and II, it was used to justify detentions and expulsions of German, Austro-Hungarian, Italian and Japanese immigrants. The law played a role in the infamous US policy of Japanese internment during World War II, according to the non-partisan law and policy institute.

The use (abuse) of this law would grow, of course.

“Mahmoud Khalil is not the last. He is the test run. The Alien Enemies Act is not just about immigrants-it’s about whether the government can declare entire groups of people as threats and erase them from public life.” Nebraska State Senator Megan Hunt

News Alert: Trump asks Supreme Court to allow him to end birthright citizenship

President Trump asked the Supreme Court in a series of emergency appeals Thursday to allow him to move forward with plans to end birthright citizenship, elevating a fringe legal theory that several lower courts have resoundingly rejected.
In a series of emergency appeals, the Trump administration argued that lower courts had gone too far in handing down nationwide injunctions blocking the controversial policy, and it asked the justices to limit the impact of those orders.

Arlington Cemetery website drops links for Black, Hispanic, and women veterans

But in recent weeks, the cemetery’s public website has scrubbed dozens of pages on gravesites and educational materials that include histories of prominent Black, Hispanic and female service members buried in the cemetery, along with educational material on dozens of Medal of Honor recipients and maps of prominent gravesites of Marine Corps veterans and other services.

Cemetery officials confirmed to Task & Purpose that the pages were “unpublished” to meet recent orders by President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth targeting race and gender-related language and policies in the military.

Gone from public view are links to lists of dozens of “Notable Graves” at Arlington of women and Black and Hispanic service members who are buried in the cemetery.

*I hope the turnout for tomorrow’s veterans march is enormous.

They were that tasty, huh.

OK, call the Senators who seem stupidly bendy. Ask them why they’d vote for a bill that sets up a slush fund for tRUMP & Musk.

Usha Vance is part of the board appointed by tRUMP to de-woke the performances. Need to see who hasn’t cancelled. Probably depends on how badly they need money and how their contract is written.

Back to dialing for dipsh/ts.

Cool. The good Moon Lunar Eclipse just hit totality over East Bumfuck. Not as dramatic as the last solar eclipse, but still very cool.

Jamie,

What Ifs

That’s the new legal strategy – ignoring the merits of the suit and challenging the jurisdiction of district courts, bypassing the circuit courts. It’s cynical bullshit, at least in my humble opinion.

AOC might just primary Chuck. Dems are as ticked off at him as MAGAts are ticked off during Republican town halls.

Do you hear the people single?

Yep, Pogeaux, the eclipse was cool. I set an alarm. The burn pile was still going, too. So many limbs from last week’s wind.

SCOOP: Trump crafts plan to cut spending without Congress after shutdown is avertedTrump and his allies believe the Impoundment Control Act is unconstitutional

But the promise of Trump using Congress’ funding allocations as a ceiling and not a floor ultimately played a big part in convincing conservatives.
“We appropriate, that’s an important principle. But then the chief executive can make decisions below that spending level. The chief executive can say, ‘Hey, this isn’t the best use of money,'” Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital in an interview this week.

EVERYONE! Please call Schumer’s office at 8am, and Fetterman, Slotkin, and anyone else who seems like a dolt. Schumer doesn’t have voicemail.

OK, I’ve called my Senators, Fetterman & Slotkin. And, yes, I asked Republicans to vote NO on their own party’s bill because tRUMP is going to go around Congress and the Constitution to subvert the will of the people if DEMS let him.
