On Saturday, the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board published a damning editorial that called President Donald Trump’s threat of imposing 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico “The dumbest trade war in history.”
At the same time, the stock market began to droop because of fears that Trump’s loony tariffs would drive up inflation, devastate the homebuilding and auto industries, slam American farmers who export their products and imperil a significant share of the country’s food supply that comes from these two friendly countries.
Maybe Trump got it through his thick skull that this was a really bad idea because, on Monday, he put a 30-day hold on the tariffs. And, of course, he claimed a big victory because both Mexico and Canada said they would increase efforts to curtail fentanyl traffic across both the northern and southern borders (commitments that they had already announced under the Biden administration, by the way). Trump had also asserted that the current trade agreement with our two nearest neighbors absolutely had to be changed because it was a terrible deal — without noting that the deal was negotiated with great fanfare and boasting by none other than Trump during his first term in the White House.
Trump not only has a remarkable ability to forget history and manufacture facts, but he clearly thinks speaking very loudly and wildly swinging a big stick is a brilliant way to conduct foreign policy. Certainly, that is a way to get people’s attention — and Trump loves nothing more than attention — but it is not a method to win hearts and minds.
In just two weeks, Trump has reminded the world that he is a crude bully who will conduct foreign policy based on his own erratic impulses and an undependable ally with no respect for international agreements. Add the dumb trade war to Trump’s growing list of follies — the gutting of foreign aid, the decimation of the FBI, the absurd appointment of Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, the nomination of Russia fan Tulsi Gabbard to oversee U.S. intelligence agencies — and it is easy to deduce that America’s national security is now in the hands of idiots.
Big Mama Thornton
“Ball and Chain” (also “Ball ‘n’ Chain” or “Ball & Chain”) is a blues song written and recorded by American blues artist Big Mama Thornton. Although her recording did not appear on the record charts, the song has become one of Thornton’s best-known, largely due to performances and recordings by Janis Joplin.
Not much of a Maureen-fan, but I’ve been saying it for a while, they’ll keep him in office forever as a hologram.
When Trump turns 80, as a birthday present, Elon and the lost boys could create an A.I.-fueled Trump bot, a real-time video head trained on his news conferences and everything he has ever tweeted.
Jaron Lanier, the father of virtual reality, slyly says that Trump would be “an unusually easy person to plausibly fake.”
“Gradually it’ll be normalized,” Lanier told me. “People will get used to it more and more, and then it’ll actually start to be treated as the president. If you look at it on your phone or your computer, it would look just like him. The underlying software could be presented as a hologram onstage. It might even run in the next election. And they’ll go to the Supreme Court and say, ‘We know that the president can only have two terms, but this isn’t really the president. This is the Trump bot and A.I.s are people, too.’ Essentially allowing a continuation of the same administration into a third term.”
Brilliant stuff Jack. And scrolling down through the others posted by our little cadre of music lovers, safe to say there has never been a lack of insanely good black female talent in the jazz and blues genres.
Renee, you and me – except I do want to see Jalen take the Eagles to the post game celebration.
“U.S. District Judge Engelmayer issued a preliminary injunction barring Musk and his DOGE team from accessing the personal financial data of millions of Americans in Treasury Department records. He also ordered the DOGE to destroy any they might already have obtained since January 20.”
“Additionally, the judge stated that Treasury records from the Bureau of Fiscal Services can only be accessed by specialized civil servants who need them as part of their jobs. The Trump administration cannot grant access to political appointees, special government employees, or those outside the Treasury—including Musk.”
This household is team Chiefs, except that the kicker is a misogynist. Remember when I cursed him and then he was out for several weeks for medical treatment, and then he missed field goals for awhile when he came back? Made me very happy.
Jalen Hurts then made a speech to counter the nastiness of fake-Christen Butker. Jalen also walks the walk. So, I’m OK if he has a great day and the Eagles win, even though it’ll be more pleasant around here if the chiefs win…as long as Butker (who had political ambitions) has a crap game.
Sturge,
Good stuff, I’m adding it to the play list as I listen to it.
I had never heard of Memphis Minnie. According to what I read on Wikipedia, she must of been quite the gal. She was the same age as my grandmother’s younger siblings. In 1910 she left home at age 13 and supported herself by busking on Beal street.
I like this quote from wiki
Minnie was known as a polished professional and an independent woman who knew how to take care of herself. She presented herself to the public as being feminine and ladylike, wearing expensive dresses and jewelry, but she was aggressive when she needed to be and was not shy when it came to fighting. According to the blues musician Johnny Shines, “Any men fool with her she’d go for them right away. She didn’t take no foolishness off them. Guitar, pocket knife, pistol, anything she get her hand on she’d use it”. According to Homesick James, she chewed tobacco all the time, even while singing or playing the guitar, and always had a cup at hand in case she wanted to spit. Most of the music she made was autobiographical; Minnie expressed a lot of her personal life in music.
“Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer, and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult…. All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working hours or shorter rations. And when they became discontented, as they sometimes did, their discontentment led nowhere, because being without general ideas, they could only focus it on petty specific grievances.”
I KNEW I would not have to scroll far before I would see Sturge posted a tune from Sister Rosetta! If she didn’t invent Rock and Roll she’ll do until I learn who did.

What I do is create play lists on youtube, then post them here. I then bookmark either the comment or post where I imbedded them to playback anytime. by doing that I don’t get all the obnoxious ads that ruin the youtube experience. The main problem is that no youtube video is there forever and as accounts die or they are removed by rights holders you will have gaps of missing videos, which stop the playlist at the point of the missing video. so playlists need regular tending by the creator to make them usable. So play lists can get too large very easily.

Checks and balances is a system that prevents any one part of a government or organization from having too much power. It’s a system of overlapping powers where different parts of the system limit and control each other.
Separation of powers is a thorn in their backsides, but they also don’t care what judges rule. They are acting post-constitutionally, just like Vought said.
FFS! They didn’t need to ruin Jon Batiste’s performance with a shot of Cadet Bone Spurs saluting creepily. I gave him the finger & nobody said a word. Little wins.
Adolf picked the chiefs to win & it looks like one more thing he’s touched is dying.
Between Mahomes’ wife being a MAGAt (dies she realize her husband kids will not be considered yt by the klan?) and the Eagles not going to the WH when Adolf was last in office, of course he would pick KC.
I really like the Eagles QB for standing up for women after Butker told women to stay home & pop out babies.
Well the orange demented fool is doing it again.Twenty-five percent tariff on all imported steel and aluminum. Yup. That is one way of killing progress. 25 47? Not until puttie says so.
“The Seven Mountain Mandate is part of dominionism.[12]
The biblical base for the movement is derived from Revelation 17:1–18, wherein verse 9 reads, “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains”.[12] The seven areas that the movement believe influence society and that they seek to influence are family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government.[12] They believe that their mission to influence the world through these seven spheres is justified by Isaiah 2:2 “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains.”[7]
By using strategic spiritual warfare, adherents attempt to gain control of the seven mountains by researching and mapping the geographical strongholds of territorial spirits, using prophecyfrom the movement’s prophets to determine the demons’ names and roles, and intercession in which they pray on-site to rid the location or “mountain” of demons.[5]”
“Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Sunday acknowledged that Elon Musk’s government efficiency team, which has been tasked with slashing federal spending, has access to her agency’s data, including that of federal disaster aid recipients’ personal information, as part of an “audit” she welcomes.”
”Audit”? Since when do hackers/programmers do auditing?
Homeland Security, eh? Better brush up on my Russian. It’s been a couple of decades. They’ll hand the keys to Poo-tin.
“Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, Who Has a Female Agent, Pushes Back on Harrison Butker’s Speech”
“In the aftermath of Harrison Butker‘s controversial comments during a commencement speech, suggesting women will find their most fulfillment as homemakers, rather than the workforce, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts didn’t mince words in a biting rebuttal of the Kansas City Chiefs kicker’s views.”
“Women are thrusted into positions to have to overcome this, overcome that,” Hurts, said in a video shared via Instagram by The Sports-ish. “And they always do. Yet they lack the respect they deserve. I’m here advocating for it. Not only in football but in every situation. We all know the woman is the rock of everything.”
“Chiefs Placekicker Harrison Butker Goes Wide Right and Finds Political Power” “The Kansas City Chiefs kicker has started a far-right super PAC to encourage conservatives to vote for “traditional Christian values.” He is part of a terrifying political trend.”
“Earlier this year, Butker “very intentionally,” as he put it, announced his “traditional Catholic” views while delivering a commencement address at Benedictine College, a Catholic liberal-arts school in Kansas. Butker chided the women in the audience for their ambition and expressed the trad-Catholic doctrine that their only true happiness would be as a wife and fertile mother.”
”He praised his own wife, Isabella, saying that she would be “the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother” and expressed his joy over the fact that she has embraced “one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
“Butker, true to his predicable anti-LGBTQ views and staunch anti-abortion activism, also criticized “liberal Catholic leaders,” whom he faults with “pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.” He also attacked the “tyranny of diversity, equity, and inclusion” and cried out against “things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values and media,” which supposedly “all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.”
“Targeting the male graduates, Butker told them to “be unapologetic in your masculinity,” and to “fight against the cultural emasculation of men.” Happy graduation, everyone!”
“Opus Dei, which is Latin for “work of God,” is a century-old arm of the Catholic church, whose harshest critics have long tried to label it a cult, tracing early adherents to fascist dictators.”
“This is the backstory that’s gone curiously untold about Butker, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, when he was invited to give a commencement speech to graduates at Benedictine College, a small Catholic school in Atchison, Kansas.”
“Few people likely caught the nods to Opus Dei that Butker made in his speech. But he made specific and repeated references to Opus Dei, citing Josemaría Escrivá, the Spanish priest who started the organization in 1928.”
“Now a saint, Escrivá’s beliefs were elevated in the faith in 1982 when Pope John Paul II made Opus Dei a personal prelature, meaning the organization’s leadership reported directly to him.”
“There are about 85,000 Opus Dei members worldwide. But only about 2 percent of priests globally are part of the organization.”
“Butker appears to be among the 3,000 Opus Dei adherents in the U.S. It’s hard to know for sure as its membership is shrouded in secrecy.”
Shrouded in secrecy because these boys are so proud of being members?
Most pennies produced by the U.S. Mint are given out as change but never spent; this creates an incessant demand for new pennies to replace them, so that cash transactions that necessitate pennies (i.e., any concluding with a sum whose final digit is 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9) can be settled. Because these replacement pennies will themselves not be spent, they will need to be replaced with new pennies that will also not be spent, and so will have to be replaced with new pennies that will not be spent, which will have to be replaced by new pennies (that will not be spent, and so will have to be replaced). In other words, we keep minting pennies because no one uses the pennies we mint.
“Early in his performance, Lamar speaks of “the revolution,” telling the audience that “The revolution is about to be televised; You picked the right time but the wrong guy.”
But Lamar’s “wrong guy” reference, some social media users speculated, was a direct attack on President Trump, who was in attendance Sunday.”
Craig – It’s asking for my address, but I’m not one of his constituents in MD. Is that OK?
Also, should I ask this follow-up question (which I’m posing to my Senators): Since dictatorships don’t need a legislature nor a judiciary, once Musk & those in his shadow government are done illegally accessing our data and possibly installing malware, the window for Congress to exercise power will shut. Do you and your colleagues plan to let the coup complete without doing anything to stop it? Because despite any assurances Mr. tRUMP may have made to members of Congress, you are all expendable the second they don’t need anything from you. When will you act? Will you act?
Is that too much for a town hall, if they want to hear from someone who’s not a Marylander?
“Trump signs executive order pausing Foreign Corrupt Practices Act”
“President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday pausing the enforcement of an act that criminalizes U.S. businesses bribing foreign officials. The order is aimed at restoring American economic competitiveness.”
“Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled that Dellinger be allowed to return to work in the coming days while awaiting the presentation of other legal arguments regarding the case. During this time, Dellinger must retain access to his office’s resources, and the Trump administration is barred from recognizing “the authority of any other person as Special Counsel.”
“President Donald Trump is preparing to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to work with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to “significantly” reduce the size of the federal workforce, multiple outlets reported—a move that comes as controversy surrounds Musk’s powerful agency and questions of what it can and cannot do in different departments.”
And now, the illegally-created DOGE has its own caucus.
Something new: Banking apps now showing FDIC info front and center “Backed by the full faith and credit of the US Government” – the exact same font on all of the apps. Makes me queasy that there is more to this coup; it’s an all hands in the cookie jar from corporate America.
There’s a NOT MY PRESIDENT gathering/protest, at noon on Monday at the US Capitol. Wish I could be there, but I’m probably not getting on a plane for four years.
Thanks, Jack, great choices.

Adolf is obsessed with Taylor Swift. Creepy.
Notice how many distractions he’s spewing: Going to the Super Bowl, renaming the Gulf, killing the penny…meanwhile the coup continues.
It will take military intervention, at which point Elon and his helper monkeys fold and start whining.

“A federal judge has reinstated the head of a federal ethics agency after President Donald Trump tried to quietly fire him, marking the latest in a series of illegal terminations attempted by the Trump administration.”

Deb Haaland running for Governor of New Mexico!
