last time there was an ice storm like what’s predicted in these parts there was no electricity, municipal water supply or working gas stations for about 11 days including spotty cell phone availability. iced up trees knocked down everywhere.   wood stoves, layers of long johns and plenty of blankets saved the day.

It’s been a very pleasant vacation.   I guess now it’s back to bitchin’ and moanin’
I just started and now seem to be facing an onslaught of being followed by hordes of scantily clothed young females. Is there a Bluesky limit to how many accounts you can block?

Sturg — they found their way from twit.  I report them as other  sex accounts, then block them.

Hey, Sturg!

Still have power here, but we’ve lost tree limbs and it’s not over yet.  I’m probably staying put for a week, as this stuff won’t melt anytime soon.

Yesterday, I hid nuts in all of the trees for the squirrels, and scattered sunflower seeds on the deer block for the birds.
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5067267-ohio-governor-mike-dewine-body-cam-footage-charge/
“Ohio governor signs bill to charge public for police video footage”

Tax dollars pay for the cops and body cameras, and now folks have to pay to see the footage.  Sounds illegal.

“No law enforcement agency should ever have to choose between diverting resources for officers on the street to move them to administrative tasks like lengthy video redaction reviews for which agencies receive no compensation — and this is especially so for when the requestor of the video is a private company seeking to make money off of these videos,” DeWine said in a statement shared with The Hill.

*BS to the “receive no compensation” argument.  They aren’t going over footage off the clock.  Taxpayers are paying them.  Ohio sounds like it’s gearing up for full fascism.

I wonder how much Donald will have to pay Melania to hold the Bible at the inauguration?  Maybe Elon will perform the wifely duties.

[Elon] “…has posted or reposted on X about child sex abuse cases in the UK more than 50 times this week.   He has called for Starmer and his safeguarding minister to be removed from power, for new elections to take place, and even for King Charles III to unilaterally dissolve parliament – something which hasn’t happened for nearly two centuries and would cause a constitutional crisis.”

Jamie, I wonder how long it’ll be before he tries to deport either or both based on lies they allegedly told feds in order to be naturalized.   that’s probably his only ace in the hole when it comes to threatening them to keep their mouths shut.

Sturg, Bluesky’s moderation team is working on controlling the spam but there’s no limit on blocking. I found that after blocking them for a while it slowed down quite a bit.

Well, winter has come to East Bumfuck. We’ve got about nine days of freezing and below temperatures as the high, with snow of anywhere from 10 to 12 inches over the next 24-36 hours.
How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?

Here’s what we’re looking at.  We had a pine tree fall in the backyard night before last (1st round of snow and wind) and flatten 18’ of fence and a dogwood tree that’s been struggling for a few years. Too cold to deal with that until this frigid stuff passes in a week or so.
We have the means to stay warm – the gas space heaters that were the original heating source for the house (and CO detectors) food and a gas stove & oven, and 3 bars of service for entertainment if the power and WiFi go away. Very tolerable even if not as normal. And we have a huge freezer (also called the back porch) if needed to save the stuff in the fridge & freezer.
Gotta go see if I can get the snow blower running after @ 5 years of nonuse. Looks like we’ll need it.

It always seemed odd that the algorithm on the socials can figure out what to push to you, monitor and kill comments containing certain words, but they can’t figure out that an account is a bot or a Russian troll setting up accounts to drive traffic to paid porn sites.  It’s almost like it’s intentional.  Is BlueSky any better?

Jack….  LOVE Mozart… thanks!

We have very cold temps here in NH…  but then… it is January.  The weirdest thing is we have absolutely no snow and none coming in the foreseeable future.  The ski areas are off to a slow start.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/05/europe/trump-italian-pm-meloni-mar-a-lago-intl/index.html

“In a sign of the burgeoning relationship between Italy’s leader and Trump’s camp, Andrea Stroppa, a cybersecurity expert and ally of Elon Musk based in Rome, posted on X a fake, AI image of Meloni standing alongside Trump and Musk. All three are dressed in clothes reminiscent of the Roman Empire.

Trump and Meloni, while politically similar, don’t necessarily align on all the world’s most pressing conflicts. Meloni has been one of Ukraine’s strongest backers, having met with President Volodymyr Zelensky a dozen times since Russia’s invasion.

Meanwhile Musk and Meloni forged their strong friendship in the summer of 2023, and the Tesla founder headlined Meloni’s Brothers of Italy political convention, Atreju, in December last year.”

When I learned of Comcast wielding power, I thought of how Don Imus went from network to network until Fox BN took him in ’til the end. Also, how Dan Patrick had to move about until he landed on Peacock.
Now we’ll have to seek out Joy, Jen, Lawrence, Rachel, Joe/Mika, Jose, Alex and Alex, Nicolle Wallace, Ali and Ali and the others.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/05/politics/melania-trump-amazon-documentary/index.html
“Incoming first lady Melania Trump will be the subject of a new documentary coming to Amazon’s Prime Video this year…”

“Melania Trump will serve as an executive producer of the project, signaling that the documentary is being made with her full participation — and editorial control. The documentary began filming in December, the month after Donald Trump won reelection, and is slated to be released in mid-2025, a few months after he takes office.”

Huh. Is Bezos in charge of propaganda?  To the victor go the spoils, I guess.

IvyGreen

The term was derived from the phrase “to the victor belong the spoils” by New York Senator William L. Marcy,[1][2]referring to the victory of Andrew Jackson in the election of 1828, with the term spoils meaning goods or benefits taken from the loser in a competition, election or military victory.[3]

Reprehensible.

Jimmy’s South is the one I cherish. Not this.

A federal agency is offering a $2,500 reward for tips on who fatally shot an American bald eagle last month in north Alabama. The mature American bald eagle was found Dec. 8 near Mt. Hope in Lawrence County with “many” shotgun pellets lodged in its carcass, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, who along with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are seeking information on who was behind the incident.
