  1. President-elect Donald Trump’s staffing choices for his incoming administration are surprising many, especially his pick of Rep. Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Meanwhile, current President Joe Biden welcomed his rival to The White House for a civil discussion about the coming transfer of power.

  2. Jordan Klepper tackles Trump’s meeting with Biden and the president-elect’s newest nominees: Matt Gaetz, Tulsi Gabbard, and Pete Hegseth. Plus, Troy Iwata makes Jordan jealous with his new Secretary of the Interior title.

  3. There is probably only one good thing about what a demented old orange idiot has done with his choices of suck ups, Gaetz resigned from Congress.  Good, gone and hopefully to be arrested.

  4. jamie, chances about the same that floriduh gov appoints one to fill rubio vacancy.

from wiki: With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of R+19, it is the most Republican district in Florida.

  5. query about usual FBI role in vetting cabinet noms:

who will be running FBI first days of DOTUS reign?  would an investigation under current FBI be possible? how likely will House ethics findings and DOJ records on matt find their way to Senate leaky hands?

  6. I’m really irritated Trump is getting away distracting attention from Gabbard by tossing Gaetz lightning rod into the mix on the same day. Giving Putin access to America’s security establishment is a bigger deal.

  7. Even for Trump World could there be anyone more full of shit…

    Vivek Ramaswamy:

‘We are assembling the brightest minds in the country. This is the equivalent of a modern Manhattan project. I think the major problem holding our country back is a federal bureaucracy. Target that cost, save the money, restore self-governance.’

  8. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/14/business/elon-musk-doge-department-of-government-efficiency/index.html

“Elon Musk is a showman, not an accountant”

“The president-elect on Tuesday said that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, a two-bit pharma-bro-turned-right-wing-conspiracist, will lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency.” In trademark Muskian fashion, “DOGE” is an unsubtle nod to the memecoin he has spent the past several years hyping into a $60 billion asset (a market cap that eclipses the value of companies like Ford and United Airlines despite having no discernible use case or tangible product).”

“Elon and Vivek are showmen, not accountants, and this “department” is not a department but rather a commission that would operate outside the government.”

“In announcing the commission, Trump said that DOGE would become “potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time.”
And 15 minutes later, Musk weighed in on X with a less dramatic but more believable proposition: “Department of Government Efficiency. The merch will be 🔥🔥🔥”

“…the efficiency department is being overseen by two people.”

“Of course, all of it is textbook Musk, the technoking of bold promises that have never come to fruition (like street-operational Robotaxisfully autonomous driving, the ability to put humans on Mars by 2024, etc).”

“It’s not that he won’t have time — he’s managed to keep Tesla shareholders happy despite his many distractions, like turning Twitter into a far-right propaganda machine and reportedly building a sprawling compound in Texas for his 11 children and their mothers.”

“On the campaign trail last month, Musk was asked how much he thought he could cut from the nation’s $6.5 trillion budget.”
And like anyone who’s gone out ahead of their skis, he grasped for an answer that seemed believable: “Well, I think we could do at least $2 trillion,” he said.

“To get even close to excising $2 trillion from the budget, the DOGE bros would have to persuade Congress to slash defense spending, lay off federal workers and gut programs that maintain roads and bridges.“Musk would be lucky to find $200 billion in the federal budget, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers said at the Economic Club of New York on Tuesday.”

*To the point of this thread, it seems like Orange Adolf is casting  a carnival sideshow, not a major motion picture.

*Adolf got his “Manhattan Project” line from Vivek. He probably has no idea what he’s saying.

*The article linked says he denies building the Austin compound.  However, he has also said that he hoped they (his baby mammas and their spawn) would stop by from time to time. Every villain needs an evil lair.

*Vivek seems to be playing second fiddle Elon, and based on my assessment of his personality, that’s gonna be awkward.

*I am worried that Asshole & Asshat will get some of their spending cut wishes, because there are so many Republicans in Congress who are MAGAts, or who will go along to get along.

    * Elon says there’s gonna be merch. Was that white supremacist humor or is he opening a store on Etsy?

  9. The view from Trump world:“None of the attorneys had what Trump wants, and they didn’t talk like Gaetz,” a Trump advisertells The Bulwark’s Marc Caputo. “Everyone else looked at AG as if they were applying for a judicial appointment. They talked about their vaunted legal theories and constitutional bullshit. Gaetz was the only one who said, ‘yeah, I’ll go over there and start cuttin’ fuckin’ heads.’”

  10. Trump has shown he understands a cardinal rule of strong man dominance: constantly force your allies to defend the indefensible & to make ever greater concessions they once would have considered beyond the pale. Each surrender paves the way for the next. Gaetz just an opening bid

  11. “Tulsi Gabbard’s Nomination Is a National-Security Risk”– The Atlantic

All intelligence agencies, including the CIA and the NSA, REPORT DIRECTLY to the Director of National Intelligence. Two major consequences of appointing someone friendly to U.S. enemies such as Vladimir Putin and Syria’s Bashar al-Assad:
    — How can our covert assets around the world not be thinking about the risk of being compromised? They should be packing their bags and off to hiding from Putin’s assassins.
    — In Trump’s first term vital intelligence allies in Europe and elsewhere were shy about sharing their work with the U.S. Now they have reason to stop completely.

Tom Nichols, professor emeritus of national-security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College:

“Gabbard has every right to her personal views, however inscrutable they may be … But as a security risk, Gabbard is a walking Christmas tree of warning lights. She has blamed NATO and the U.S. for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (again, to the celebration of both Russian and Chinese state media), has repeated Russian propaganda claims that the U.S. has set up secret bioweapons labs in that country, and has argued that the U.S. not Russia is wholly responsible for Putin’s nuclear brinkmanship. When she appeared on Sean Hannity’s show in 2022, even Hannity blanched at Gabbard floating off in a haze of Kremlin talking points and cheerleading for Russia. When Hannity is trying to shepherd you back toward the air lock before your oxygen runs out, you’ve gone pretty far out there. A person with Gabbard’s views should not be allowed anywhere near the crown jewels of American intelligence”

Politico: ‘Left turn and off the bridge’: Trump’s spy pick stuns intel world

  12. Craig
The problem folks have with Trump is concentrating on what is important, as he tries to flood the system. You really can’t block all the idiots Trump appointed yesterday. You have to pick your battles. Of all the appointments, who is the most important to be blocked? Who can cause the most harm? They are all idiots, but you can only pick one. Let Gaetz go, then block and slow down lesser appointments, isolate him in that vast sea of rules called the Department of Justice. Let the bureaucracy be your friend.
Of all the appointments so far the one I think can cause the most harm is Gabbard, concentrate your efforts on her.
    Jack

  13. BB, I believe the Gaetz arrest train left the station without him.  DOJ investigated and decided not to prosecute. The new DOJ isn’t going to reopen that case, pick that scab and decide it’s OK to arrest him now.

BTW, fun fact.  The only legal experience Gaetz had after law school was with a civil firm in Ft. Walton Beach (part of my old Gulf Coast stomping grounds). Two years as an associate attorney with a newly minted law license DOES NOT qualify you to run the Department of Justice. So enough for him.

Gabbard – Head of DNI?  GMAFB.  My Uncle retired from the USAF as a  LT. Colonel after a 30 year career, and he was attached to intelligence for a portion of that time, living in Germany and SVN in the 60s, and I assure you Tulsi’s experience as an MP in Kuwait did not position her to be DNI.

Elect a clown, expect a circus.

  14. When you think about how crucial our intel allies in Europe and elsewhere have been to counter-terrorism, if they back off because a Putin puppet is running ours we are literally more vulnerable to another 9/1.

  15. To help make a crummy day, mood and weather, a little better.  The Onion bought Info Wars.  This should be good for a few weeks of puns and memes.

  16. Outspoken GOP Matt Gaetz Critic Flip-Flops After Attorney General News: ‘I Completely Trust Trump’s Decision-Making’Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin admits that he and the Florida rep, who’s still under an ethics probe, “have had their differences”.Above from The Wrap.Today I saw Markwayne telling how Gaetz, in he halls, bragged of serially banging teenage girls, crushing E.D. pills, chasing them with energy drinks “so I can go all night.”This Republican conglomerate of scum covers the truth when truth is needed, to please Trump. Gaetz is a full rapist in many states that have 18 for a legal sex with consent age.So as today’s memes show, a rapist sends a rapist to scrutiny by The Senate. No way will Gaetz be approved…right?Tulsi Gabbard is a correspondent of Assad and she adores Putin. She is to be in charge of Intelligence. This will pass muster with the politicians. This is how it is in 2024.

  17. Dex, Markwayne Mullin isn’t the brightest bulb in the box. From Wiki:

Along with all other Senate and House Republicans, Mullin voted against the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. In August 2022, he came out against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, but subsequently received criticism after the White House Twitter account pointed out that Mullin had benefited from $1.4 million of federal PPP loan forgiveness. Mullin also voted against the TRUTH Act (H.R. 6782), a bill that would have required public disclosure of companies that received funds through the bailout program.
In 2022, Mullin introduced resolutions to remove the first and second impeachments of President Trump from the Congressional Record. House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik supported the resolution. At the time, the House had a Democratic majority and the resolution did not pass.

Rich Republican who sucks at the federal teat but wants to make sure poorer folks can’t.

  18. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/14/europe/marine-le-pen-presidential-bid-threat-political-ban-france-intl/index.html

“French prosecutors have asked for prison time and a five-year ban from politics for far-right leader Marine Le Pen, potentially derailing her bid to become president in 2027.”

The prosecutors also asked that the ineligibility sentence was given “with provisional execution,” meaning it would take place immediately and Le Pen could not stand for new elections during this period, even if appeals were filed against the court’s decision.”

Get on it, tout suite, France!

  19. pogo – Yeah, he shouldn’t have dragged his feet.  Garland is the head of the pooch screwers union.

  20. So we can expect that our kids will be able to meet measles, mumps and rubella and that Medicare won’t pay for us old farts to get our Covid, RSV, pneumonia, etc. shots. Wonderful. I had a couple of HS friends – one who became a college roommate, who had polio, and both had a diminished lower limb. Cruel fucking disease.

  21. The only thing that wouldn’t be bad, although I can’t imagine it happening, is getting rid of the food dyes and artificial sweeteners that have been shown to have some neurotoxicity.

Skittles and Little Debbie will be sold on the black market.

I guess the ‘roids Bobby Brainworms shoots up are OK, though, and whatever cream or contraption he and Adolf use to orange themselves up.
Will Matt Gaetz’ beloved Botox be federally protected?

  22. How is Adolf going to make it without non-food foods?   Ketchup is full of junk, and that’s the least of his intake.

  23. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/14/middleeast/elon-musk-iran-un-ambassador-new-york-intl-latam/index.html

“The meeting between Musk and Iran’s envoy Amir Saeid Iravani was held at a secret location in New York and lasted more than an hour, the NYT reported, citing the Iranian officials, who reportedly described the discussion as focused on how to defuse tensions between the two countries.”

“CNN has reached out to Musk and Trump’s transition team for comment.”

“Biden administration officials at the UN were not notified that the meeting was happening, and still have not received independent confirmation it took place, a US official told CNN.”

    WTAF?!?

  24. Step sister paralyzed neck down in iron lung for a year.  Then in full body cast and wheel chair for four years.  Finally died during her third spinal surgery.  Needless to say, I loathe these anti-vax nut cases.

  25. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/14/health/measles-comeback-who-cdc/index.html

“Measles is debilitating and deadly, and cases are surging, WHO and CDC warn”
“Global measles cases surged by more than 20% to an estimated 10.3 million last year…”

“About 107,500 people, mostly young children, died — an “unacceptable” death toll from a disease that’s preventable through vaccination, the health groups said.”

“The increase in cases is driven by falling levels of vaccination.”

  26. Jamie, the best we can do to honor the memory of people like your sister is prevention where possible. Vaccines are an easy call, especially with their proven record. What is wrong with these people?

  27. Most people don’t realise how dangerous measles can be.  Usually fever and rash, but in severe cases blindness, convulsions and death particularly in various indigenous groups.  Mumps is miserable and in adult males Impotence.  Rubella exposure for pregnant women miscarriage or birth defects.  Now one little MMR vaccine …

  28. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/14/politics/matt-gaetz-attorney-general-el-salvador-prison-bukele/index.html
“Matt Gaetz would oversee US prisons as AG. He thinks El Salvador’s hardline lockups are a model”

“It was July, and Gaetz — who will oversee the Federal Bureau of Prisons if he becomes attorney general — was visiting El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (Cecot), where gang leaders and murderers are locked up and from which they are never released.”
