This cat thing has me thinking about the irony if you compare Vance’s Hillbilly relatives going to Ohio. There are actually similarities to the Haitians. Growing up I heard stories of Kentucky relatives long ago immigrating there and having a really rough time being accepted and having to live off the land until they got on their feet. Their thick accents even had some locals saying they didn’t speak their language.

Trump’s town hall in Michigan yesterday was a train wreck in many ways, but this is one of the less-discussed moments that struck me.

Asked how he’ll bring down grocery prices Trump answered saying he’ll block imported food from entering the country “We allow a lot of farm product into our country. We’re going have to be a little like other countries. We’re not going to allow so much.”

Once again we see his “low information” understanding of trade, tariffs etc. How does he think restricting imports lowers consumer prices???

All the way back to when I was a mere schoolchild, it was said newspapers were written in language no higher than 5th grade-level so dummies could read them. Trump keeps his ideas and rhetoric to a dummy-level for the simpletons who vote for him. Notwithstanding, hisself gets dumber by the day. Keep it stupid, Simple.

https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/4791069-project-2025-farming-food-aid/ “Steep increases in logging. An end to federal environmental enforcement for farms. Work requirements for food aid. Fewer school meals for children. And the demolition of the network of farm subsidies that have backstopped Big Ag since the New Deal.” “These are some of the sweeping changes that would be made to American agriculture under Project 2025…” “The project proposes ending “safety nets” such as the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, which pay farmers of selected commodities when the prices of those commodities fall below a predetermined level.” “It also pushes to cut government subsidies for crop insurance — for which taxpayers currently pick up about two-thirds of the cost — and to end the sugar program, which manages U.S. sugar production to keep prices high.” “The project’s agriculture section proposes moving SNAP from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to Health and Human Services. Bakst also argues that a future administration should make recipients work or apply for jobs for more than 20 hours a week.” “Additionally, it proposes reversing the Biden administration’s 2021 reforms that sought to increase SNAP disbursements to reflect the real-world costs of healthy food — and rejiggering the federal math that determines whether all students in a district have access to free meals. The next administration, Bakst argues in the project, should “reject efforts to create universal free school meals.” “…the plan seeks to ban the use of prescribed burns to reduce the amount of fire-prone vegetation in forests — something Republican lawmakers have also pushed for. Instead, Project 2025 would fight wildfires with increased logging — a strategy that many ecologists argue makes fires worse.” “The project also seeks to constrict or eliminate the Conservation Reserve Program, which was established in 1985 to pay farmers to fallow sensitive land to give it time to recover. Its creation was part of a broader attempt to slow the loss of American topsoil, which is both the basis of the food system and is vanishing 25 times faster than it is generated.” ps – They also plan to deport a lot of your farm labor, so any… Read more »

Dumbass’ Russian campaign arm up to dirty tricks.  WaPo

SAN FRANCISCO — Russian propagandists are escalating attacks on the presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris with false but widely circulated videos on social media, including one that featured an actor accusing Harris of a nonexistent hit-and-run that paralyzed a girl, Microsoft researchers said Tuesday.

That video was a viral hit, spread by X accounts with as a many as a half-million followers, despite first appearing on a newly minted San Francisco news outlet that soon vanished. Posts featuring the video racked up 7 million views on X alone, and were also on Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.

Another video manufactured an assault on an attendee of a rally for Republican candidate Donald Trump, garnering millions of views, Microsoft said. One depicted a fake New York billboard with vulgar messages saying Harris wanted to change children’s gender. It drew hundreds of thousands of views on X.

In all, Microsoft called out three Russian government-backed groups in addition to those described in federal charges last week against employees at propaganda network RT.

One group was “adept at grabbing headlines with its outlandish fake videos and scandalous claims,” Microsoft said, while another “will likely only escalate its targeting of the Harris-Walz campaign in the lead-up to Election Day.”

So I need to correct a misunderstanding of mine about JDouche and Project 2025.  My understanding was that he wrote the Foreword for 2025.  He did not.  that was written by Kevin Roberts, president of Heritage and architect of Project 2025.  JDouche wrote the Foreword for Roberts’ new book, Dawn’s Early Light, touting Roberts; ideas, which are embodied in Project 2025. Sorry for any inconvenience.  An excerpt from  The New Republic’s article on the issue. Vance does not explicitly mention Project 2025 in his foreword. He does, however, make clear that he is extremely close with Roberts and that he sees him as a strong ally in a shared political project. The foreword opens with the parallels in their biographies: Both are from poor families and had difficult childhoods, both are Catholic, and both are now working in Washington, D.C., to remake the country. Over the three-page foreword, Vance singles out Roberts in the areas where the two most strongly align politically. First, he praises Roberts for his willingness to criticize corporations and break with the GOP’s free-market orthodoxy; then, for his strong emphasis on the family. “Roberts is articulating a fundamentally Christian view of culture and economics,” Vance writes, by “recognizing that virtue and material progress go hand in hand.” Vance’s foreword is also, notably, a call for revolution. “The old conservative movement argued if you just got government out of the way, natural forces would resolve problems,” he writes. “We are no longer in this situation and must take a different approach.” That is where the muskets come in: As Kevin Roberts writes, “It’s fine to take a laissez-faire approach when you are in the safety of the sunshine. But when the twilight descends and you hear the wolves, you’ve got to circle the wagons and load the muskets.” We are now all realizing that it’s time to circle the wagons and load the muskets. In the fights that lay ahead, these ideas are an essential weapon. On Tuesday, the Trump campaign’s public attacks on Project 2025 bore fruit: The project is shuttering its policy operations, and its director, Paul Dans, is stepping… Read more »

OK, so just out of curiosity, when was she doing this fashion photo shoot nude modeling? And maybe I’m not savvy enough on the terms she’s using, but where’s the fashion part of nude modeling?  Isn’t that by definition the absence of fashion?  Best I can tell the only fashion in that photo is on the horse.  I’m not judging, BTW – but I’m also not an evangelical Christian being asked to vote for a Christian nationalist whose wife does a bit of nude modeling on the side for President.

More explosions in Lebanon.  WaPo.
Today the count is 9 dead, 300 injured according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

BEIRUT — New explosions linked to electronic devices killed at least one and injured more than 100 across Lebanon on Wednesday, a day after thousands of people were wounded by exploding pagers used by members of the militant group Hezbollah, Lebanon’s state news agency reported.
The source of Wednesday’s explosions was not immediately clear. The state news agency said some were caused by old pagers kept in people’s homes, in southern Lebanon and the Beirut suburbs. At least one of the explosions occurred at a funeral in Beirut’s southern suburbs, held for four people who were killed in Tuesday’s blasts.

Crowds had begun gathering for the funerals when a blast sent people running.

“Anyone who has a device, take out the battery now!” Hezbollah security members yelled to mourners. “Turn off your phones, switch it to airplane mode,” young men in black T-shirts and khakis yelled.
Bystanders at the funeral said a handheld radio exploded in someone’s hand on the edge of the crowd. Ambulances pushed through streets filled with men and women in black who were waving flags.

The nude modeling thing is actually her attempt to help Putin’s puppet.  It’s just another distraction, so folks aren’t paying attention to policy.  Probably self-serving, too, if she’d putting out a book.

His followers have no issue with him being an adjudicated rapist.  If someone is actually ~undecided~ after his abysmal presidency and his disgusting and illegal behavior, nude pics won’t sway them.

If the media isn’t talking about their policy, that’s a win for the orange fascist.

As gruesome as the exploding pagers/communication radios are this is one of the top operations of this type.  Being able to manufacture that quantity of units, get them distributed and finally function at the same time is very hard to imagine.  But, they did it.

I am very tired of the “media” continuing the myth of the “bullet through the ear” and not take the ear or even leave a scar.  So far two attempts on the orange blob.  This should be bouncing around in his head.  You get a touch of paranoia knowing you are being observed and tailed.  Having someone trying to aerate your head is the next step.  Does he understand? No. He obviously “thinks” he is not being measured for a box.  Good.  Keeps the criminal from doing smart things.

https://www.cnn.com/business/live-news/federal-reserve-interest-rate-09-18-24/index.html

“In a significant shift for the US economy, the Federal Reserve is expected Wednesday to announce its first interest rate cut since Covid.”

Folks will make even less interest on savings, unless they gamble with it in the market.  In the olden days, my great-aunt lived off of laddered CDs that made about 12%.  They already dropped from between 5 and 6% to between 3 and 4%.  Game over.

The Fed screwing with interest rates helps those seeking loans, but hurts the other side of the equation; the bank is a middleman on whom the aforementioned screwing has no impact. Making out like bandits.

“Dow jumps 300 points after Fed cuts rates by a half point”

And, we know gains can be wiped out in no time at all.

“The most apparent effect: An interest rate cut could help ease the upward pressure on mortgage rates, making one piece of the home buying equation more affordable.”

The other side would be limited supply of affordable housing, because vultures have bought houses to make money, not to live in.

“Sales at US retailers, which are adjusted for seasonal swings but not inflation, rose 0.1% in August from the prior month, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday. That was some unexpected good news about the economy’s health because economists projected retail sales to decline 0.2%.”

Consumers are paying more for less. As noted, those numbers aren’t adjusted for inflation.

“ ‘He was so nice to me yesterday. In one way I sort of wish the call wasn’t made, because I do feel a little — he’s so nice. ‘I’m so sorry about what happened,’ and all that,’ Trump said at a campaign town hall in Michigan, recounting his call with Biden on Monday.

“Elon Musk boosts fake Trump rally bomb threat and false claims about the election”

“Elon Musk is using his social media platform to promote misinformation about the presidential candidates in the lead up to the November election, amplifying false claims Wednesday about a Trump rally bomb threat and immigrants eating pets in Ohio.”

“…Musk wrote in a now-deleted X post that “no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala.”

“…Musk also joined a chorus of conspiracy-minded X users circulating a hoax “affidavit” from a purported “whistleblower” that claimed last week’s ABC News debate was rigged to help Kamala Harris. ABC has since confirmed the typo-ridden document was fake.”

“Then on Wednesday, Musk reshared a bogus claim that a bomb had been discovered near the site of a planned Trump rally in Long Island. Police said in a statement that “reports of explosives being found at the site are unfounded.”

“While Musk’s pithy reaction to the fake threat is still live on X, the initial post has since been deleted. Musk’s own post has been earmarked with a crowd-sourced “community notes” fact-check that makes clear the claim was false. Still, in the post’s first two and a half hours, it garnered 4.3 million views and was reshared 9,800 times.”

“Also on Wednesday, Musk reshared a video falsely claiming the city manager of Springfield, Ohio, admitted in March that there had been reports of Haitian immigrants eating pets, captioning the post “Always Be Cheating News,” a clear knock on ABC’s moderators, who had fact-checked Trump’s false claims on the matter at the debate.”

“Musk’s post, which boosted false claims about Haitian immigrants that have been promoted by Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, leading to dozens of bomb threats at schools and municipal buildings in the Ohio city, garnered more than 7.9 million views and 36,000 reshares.”

“Hours later, Musk shared a map purporting to be from Nate Silver, the renowned statistician and FiveThirtyEight founder, projecting a 312-226 electoral college victory for Trump in November, saying the election was “trending well.” The map, however, was a fake.”
