Forward Ho!

by Charles Harpur

Forward ho! Forward ho! Soldiers of liberty,
Hope on; fight on; till man’s whole race shall be
Free of all good under heaven’s wide dome.
And doubt not, the earth that has grown old in sorrow
Shall grow young again in the light of that morrow
Predestined to make her fraternity’s home.
Forward ho! Forward ho! Lovers of truth and good!
Think on; write on; till earth’s whole herohood
Stand in one faith under heaven’s wide dome;
And shout to behold all the hilltops adorning
With sunflowers of glory the glow of that morning
Predestined to mark her fraternity’s home.

Pitiful. He was still blathering about Biden when they had to talk over him. Trump called into Fox News to rage about Kamala’s speech, only to be cut off by Bret Baier so they could get to Gutfeld’s show.

Beep bop – ol’ lost in space guy has cracked in at least two alternate universes, and making this real world somewhat hazardous to people who need help.  Seems a bit odd to be trying to type hate messages while doing rant radio.

There were several pics and videos of the elderly person yesterday.  Other than a botched makeup job, his skin tone is still looking grey. Is it possible that those who see it without makeup are keeping quiet hoping he goes away?

Trump’s most ’embarrassing’ attack on ‘Coach Walz’

Popular sports analyst Pablo Torre said on ‘Morning Joe’ it was a “major embarrassment” for Donald Trump to go on Truth Social and blurt, “Walz was an ASSISTANT Coach, not a COACH.”

“What that reveals is that Donald Trump doesn’t know ball at all”, Torre said. “Donald Trump does not know football — it’s embarrassing!”

Torre explained being an assistant coach is not a step down from being a coach. Being an assistant coach — you go back and look, and, often, you’re far closer to your assistant coach, to your defensive coordinator, to your D-backs coach, to your line coach. It’s like, man, those linemen on my high school team, they were thick as thieves with the line coaches. They were their own sort of subset there.”

Dan Balz has a pretty good analysis at WaPo of the progress of the race so far. CHICAGO — In his history as a candidate for president,Donald Trumphas never experienced anything like the past month. Vice PresidentKamala Harris, a Black and Indian American woman, has pushed the White alpha male to the sidelines of the national conversation, denying him the spotlight he craves and constantly demands. Democrats concluded their electrifying national convention here on Thursday night with Harris as the main event, delivering an address sculpted to keep her on the crest of a wave that has changed the contours of the presidential election. The Democrats are in the game, the former president is in a box, and it’s not clear whether he knows what to do.   Trying to free himself from this bind, Trump has plucked from what was once a tested playbook of tricks that in the past has kept his opponents off-balance and himself at the center of attention. But as the campaign now moves to its next phase, the focus on him and how he attempts to regain his balance will be as much or more of the story compared with how Harris navigates the road ahead. Harris defined the stakes of the election in blunt terms in her acceptance speech. “Fellow Americans, this election is not only the most important of our lives, it is one of the most important in the life of our nation,” she said. “In many ways, Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences — but the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious. … Just imagine Donald Trump with no guardrails.” Meanwhile, as she was speaking, Trump was providing a running stream of criticism on Truth Social, though in the same unfocused and sometimes confusing style that has marked many of his recent appearances. “IS SHE TALKING ABOUT ME?” he wrote in one post. As Harris has glided through the past month, Trump has taken to social media or to friendly media interviews in hopes of setting the terms of the conversation, but that has… Read more »

This really caught my ear in her speech: “EXPLICIT INTENT”

You can tell this is a prosecutor skilled in persuading jurors to infer intent, and it’s very useful as political rhetoric against the response ‘I didn’t say that’:

“Consider what he intends to do if we give him power again. Consider his explicit intent to set free violent extremists who assaulted those law enforcement officers at the Capitol. His explicit intent to jail journalists, political opponents and anyone he sees as the enemy. His explicit intent to deploy our active duty military against our own citizens.”

That’s how you call out a dog whistler.

We are in the general election, what the wing nuts want isn’t relevant.  They can get on board or totally lose out.  If they cause the Democrats to lose this year they will be pariahs for the rest of their lives.  Just look at Kennedy jr. he can’t even go to a family reunion any more.
Jack

Pogo

Dex, you’re right, not all left of center folks were happy about the DNC not featuring the problems in Gaza. But the DNC had a more immediate concern – producing a strong introduction of the new Presidential candidate and her relatively unknown running mate. If Democrats would like to alienate more moderate folks in the coalition in order to please arguably the farthest left wing faction of the party (although in truth I do not support Israel’s approach to the war and agree we could probably tap their brakes a bit) we’d better practice saying President Trump without throwing up in our mouths a little every time we say it.

Besides, the CODEPINK writers at the Progressive focusing on Israel/Gaza represent only one viewpoint about only one of dozens of issues progressives care about – and only a narrow sliver of the Democratic Party.  And fuhchrissake, selling arms to Israel is not waging war on Gaza.  That is a distinction that seems too fine for the authors of that article to grasp.

Carville said if Harris attains 282, she will have a hard road as President.  He said she needs a massive blow-out to really establish herself as a strong President.  I heard him say that and I cringed…if she gets 270 I will be happy as a clam.  Reagan won 49 states, Nixon similarly had a blow-out victory in 1972, but everyone is acknowledging 2024 will be a tight race. Let’s just not have another 2000 fiasco.  And definitely not another 2020 ; we need a blow-out big enough to squelch and smash Trump’s movement forever and amen. But just get 270 for a start.  I keep hearing snippets about the state I live in, Ohio, being possibly in play.  Bink mentioned it, possibly in jest last week,  but now I hear it popping up daily, here and there.  Don’t believe it.  These bastard Republicans here won’t allow it. They will close polling places, cheat, throw out votes, anything and more.  Ohio Blue?  Things gotta change.
Selling rockets and arms to Israel while Netanyahu is running the show has to be considered contributing to the genocide in Gaza and the North.  In 10 months, 50,000 dead Palestinians from US arms make the USA complicit.  How can you view it otherwise?  Human life is cheap over there when the IDF will blow up families by the dozen to kill one Hamas leader.  It is sick in the worst definition of the word.
Netanyahu must be replaced, but how? His cabinet of zealots have him covered.  Joe Biden is so sick of that guy…me too. You?

BiD I’ve seen those AI summaries, and you are right.   Ivy, not that betting odds mean shit, but Yellowhammer doesn’t seem to understand what betting odds are.  Here’s from 3 hours ago from the Las Vegas Review-Journal: Harris entered the DNC, which took place Monday through Thursday, as a slight favorite to win the White House. But Trump supplanted her as the favorite Tuesday, when he surged to the -113 favorite over Harris at Pinnacle, a respected offshore sportsbook that is not regulated in the U.S.   Trump also was the +100 favorite Wednesday over Harris at London-based Betfair Exchange, which reported more than $53 million pounds, which equates to $70 million U.S. dollars, has been wagered on the election outcome. Betfair also reported that more money has been bet on Trump than on Harris, though more wagers have been placed on Harris. “Their odds have completely flipped in the last 24 hours, and the betting market is now as tight as it has been since April, when Joe Biden and Trump were neck and neck,” Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said Wednesday. “With just under three months to go until polling day, we’re expecting to see plenty more swings and movement on the market in that time as the campaigns ramp up.”Harris has a 50 percent chance to win the election, which equates to +100, according to electionbettingodds.com, which averages live odds from FTX.com, Betfair.com, PredictIt.org, Smarkets.com and Polymarket.com. Trump’s chances are 48.2 percent, or +107, at the site where his chances were as high as 67.9 percent (-211) after a failed assassination attempt July 13. Yellowhammer was apparently reporting odds that were in the middle of the DNC.   Dex, of course the weapons we sell Israel contribute to the war, but we aren’t fighting.  And I don’t condone the bomb the place to rubble approach taken by Israel, and like I said, I think we could tap the brakes if we were so inclined, but there are international security concerns that I could only speculate about and to take action lies with folks WAAAYYYY above my pay grade. … Read more »

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-accused-crime-benjamin-netanyahu-call-ceasefire-hamas-1942248

“Donald Trump Accused of Committing ‘Massive Crime’ With Reported Phone Call”

“Donald Trump has been accused of violating federal law by the American Muckrackers PAC after allegations were made he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the ceasefire deal the U.S. is helping negotiate between Israel and Hamas.”

“The former president allegedly made the call on August 14, according to Axios, and repeated in Reuters, which cited two unnamed “U.S. sources who were briefed on the call.”
“This claim was reported again by PBS host Judy Woodruff on Tuesday, who said, “the reporting is that former President Trump is on the phone with the PM of Israel urging him not to cut a deal right now because it’s believed that would help the Harris campaign.”

“Both Netanyahu’s office and Trump denied that the call took place.”

“If Trump did make the call, there has been suggestions that this would potentially break the Logan Act, which prohibits unauthorized private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments on behalf of the U.S.”

“During a press conference in New Jersey on August 15, Trump denied the phone call happened and said the last time he spoke to Netanyahu was when the Israeli PM visited him at Mar-a-Lago on July 26. “I did encourage him to get this over with. You want to get it over with fast. Have victory, get your victory, and get it over with. It has to stop, the killing has to stop,” Trump said.

“In his press conference last Thursday Trump criticized the Democrats’ calls for a ceasefire.”

“He said: “From the start, Harris has worked to tie Israel’s hand behind its back, demanding an immediate ceasefire, always demanding ceasefire…”
