Stephen Colbert welcomes an energetic crowd to Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre following the second night of the Democratic National Convention where delegates danced through a raucous musical roll call and listened to speakers including Illinois Governor J.B. For Tim Walz, the Convention Is Like Marrying Into a Very Large Family – The New York Times (nytimes.com) Roughly 50,000 people are converging on Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, and very few of them have ever seen Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota in person. After rising on a comet-like trajectory to become Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, Mr. Walz is finding himself the political equivalent of someone marrying into an extremely large family and meeting all the relatives for the first time. “It’s a big family, and a lot of that family’s cousins served with him in the U.S. House of Representatives or worked with him with the Democratic Governors Association,” said Representative Betty McCollum of Minnesota, who is a Walz-knower of two decades and has been something of a proselytizer for him. “They kind of know somebody who knows somebody who knows Tim. It’s like you’ve been invited to the wedding and you’re the family member of the vice-presidential candidate.” Picture an aunt or a distant cousin squealing with delight at their first opportunity to hug and pinch the cheek of their new family member. That is essentially what Mr. Walz is going through after he spent the first days of the convention scurrying from one delegation or caucus meeting to another. […] “The only person who got the same kind of reception was Maxine Waters,” the veteran California congresswoman who addressed the Black caucus, Mr. Nelson said. “He is the kind of person that you like from a distance, but then you meet him in person and you like him even more.” The universal assessment of Mr. Walz from longtime friends and political allies is that he is precisely what he appears to be on television. Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, who served with him in the House, called him “a walking, talking political antidepressant.” Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota was one of several Democrats interviewed who called him “a happy warrior.” Al Franken, the former Minnesota senator, who helped raise money for Mr. Walz’s first House race, said he had “the basic humility of well-adjusted people… Read more »

Kathy Hochul, the very unpopular Governor of New York, was the nastiest speaker on Monday evening (at the Democrat National Convention) as it pertains to your favorite President, me. Her total hatred, and statements made about me, had no bounds. I was amazed for two reasons: Number one, I did a GREAT job in New York, employed thousands of people, built some of the most beautiful and successful buildings, and paid billions of dollars in taxes. Number two is that, on the very distinct possibility I will win the Presidency, wouldn’t it be better for the people of New York State to have a Governor who got along with the President? Adversarial relationships are not good in politics! Unfairly, I am before a very biased and hateful New York Judicial System that is appointed and largely controlled by the Governor. With the vitriol displayed by her on Monday night, it is no wonder that the Judges have treated me so badly. The whole system is RIGGED, and companies are leaving because of it!!!

“Let’s be serious. Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don’t take it lightly. And let me tell you what communist dictators do. And it’s never just for one day. They attack the free press. They call them the enemy of the people like Ortega does in Nicaragua. They put their unqualified relatives in cushy government jobs so they can get rich off their positions like the Castros do in Cuba and they refuse to accept legitimate elections when they lose and call for violence to stay in power like Maduro is doing right now in Venezuela. Now you tell me something. Do any of those things sound familiar? Is there anybody running for president who reminds you of that?”

This kept me up reading last night. I wish I could say I knew exactly what – or who – Condoleezza Rice is talking about here, but I don’t. Small part of a long article. The new Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—populism, nativism, isolationism, and protectionism—tend to ride together, and they are challenging the political center. Only the United States can counter their advance and resist the temptation to go back to the future. But generating support for an internationalist foreign policy requires a president to paint a vivid picture of what that world would be like without an active United States. In such a world, an emboldened Putin and Xi, having defeated Ukraine, would move on to their next conquest. Iran would celebrate the United States’ withdrawal from the Middle East and sustain its illegitimate regime by external conquest through its proxies. Hamas and Hezbollah would launch more wars, and hopes that Gulf Arab states would normalize relations with Israel would be dashed. The international economy would be weaker, sapping U.S. growth. International waters would be contested, with piracy and other incidents at sea stalling the movement of goods. American leaders should remind the public that a reluctant United States has repeatedly been drawn into conflict—in 1917, 1941, and 2001. Isolation has never been the answer to the country’s security or prosperity. Then, a leader must say that the United States is well positioned to design a different future. The country’s endlessly creative private sector is capable of continuous innovation. “In some states, just a handful, listen to me a handful of votes in every precinct could decide the winner.”
“So we need to vote in numbers that erase any doubt. We need to overwhelm any effort to suppress us.“
The part where she pointed out that Adolf is not like is and trolled him without saying his name was masterful.
“She understands that most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward. We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.”
“If we bankrupt a business or choke in a crisis, we don’t get a second, third, or fourth chance.”
“If things don’t go our way, we don’t have the luxury of whining or cheating others to get further ahead, no. We don’t get to change the rules so we always win.”
“If we see a mountain in front of us, we don’t expect there to be an escalator waiting to take us to the top.”
At the heart of Trumpism is a bitter anger driven by maladjusted weirdos who are determined to settle the score for all their imaginary slights. A group found they could build an audience being angry, nasty, and bitter. All the traits that most of society rejects as sad and unlikable. They professionalized being the kids who got attention by making farting sounds in the back of the room in the fourth grade.

The Mellon Family Dynasty Is Bankrolling Donald Trump
Since 2018, Timothy Mellon has also donated $30 million to the House Republicans’ super PAC for electing Republicans to the House. In 2020, he gave $30 million to the Senate Republicans’ super PAC.
“Timothy has so far donated $15 million to Robert F. Kennedy Junior’s super PAC — showing just how important RFK Junior’s candidacy is to Trump’s strategy of siphoning votes from Biden.”
-from Feb., add another $50 mil as aforementioned, from ONE GUY
“MAGA Inc disclosed in a filing to the Federal Election Commission that it took in more than $54 million from donors last month, with most of the money coming from Mellon. Mellon has given MAGA Inc at least $115 million this year, including a $50 million contribution in May, disclosures show.”

I wish I could order a yard sign, but quite frankly, I’m worried about what I did order showing up in the mail and someone at the post office here seeing Harris on the return address.
Noel Casler blew the whistle on the orange’s diaper situation and drug use and has mentioned something about an upper palate problem from the alleged adderal and coke. Noel worked on The Apprentice tv show quite a while.
I hope they push up the time tonight, so everyone can hear Tim Walz.
There was an opportunity for folks to hear Republicans who have left the fold for this election, but only one was broadcast in prime time. It perked up the ears of the resident MAGAt, and then they went back to texting their tribe, just like I text my friends and post here.
They listened to a bit of Michelle Obama (whom they were afraid would run when the push for Biden to step down was on), and then went to their room.
The talking heads obscured Tammy Duckworth, last night, so I changed channels because I was tracking it on my phone, too. (She needed a speechwriter.)
The commentators also talked over most of the reproductive rights speeches, except the last one, which was excruciatingly sad.
Sturg – Re: Noel Casler
“The Apprentice” NDA’s may not be enforceable by Donald Trump or his organizations and the producers may not want them enforced for fear of what else may come out. This is certainly some of the more outrageous facts about Donald Trump which exist in the public sector. Failure to prosecute this certainly raises questions about why he prosecutes claims of others, particularly when he has a NDA on the line.”
“I’ve seen Trump snort Adderall, sh*t himself on a TV set and make his 16 year old daughter give him a lap dance. But that was the craziest shit I have ever seen him do.”
“The president is a speed freak…. It makes sense if you think about it. Methamphetamine was invented by the Nazis to keep the fighter pilots up all night on bombing runs. Now Trump uses it to hate-tweet from the toilet at four A.M. in a self-centered rage.”
Casler says Trump takes these substances “because he suffers from dyslexia, and he got really nervous when he had to read cue cards on set.” He adds, “I used to see him coming out of the dressing room with Adderall coming out of his nose.”
I believe some of these may be excerpts from his stand up material, but I doubt Dumbass would think it is funny.
Comparisons between Trump(ism) and Fascism have become frequent, and with good reason. These comparisons are strongest between Trump and Mussolini — stronger than with Hitler and Nazi-ism. Detailed comparisons are difficult for at least two reasons: 1) the historical circumstances are quite different between the 20s and 30s and today, and 2) Fascism was never a coherent political theory or philosophy, but, instead, was a populist and nationalist development in Italy that Mussolini did not create, but did take over.
A comparison between Trump and Mussolini in terms of character and style, however, is frighteningly strong — and does give some guidance concerning future concerns. This comparison is based primarily on quotes from a book about Mussolini by R.J.B. Bosworth (2010). In general, the quotes speak for the themselves, though I will add some commentary along the way. It should be noted that this book was published years before similarities between Trump and Mussolini became politically relevant, and, thus, were not written with Trump in mind.
I begin with Trump’s arrogant ignorance and incoherence:

“For delivering their votes in the Federal Elections, they are awarded with yet more and more freebies: food stamps, cellphones, WIC [the U.S. Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children] payments, Obamacare, and on, and on, and on.”
“Black people, in spite of heroic efforts by the “Establishment” to right the wrongs of the past, became even more belligerent and unwilling to pitch in to improve their own situations…”
Wow, Mellon is a racist POS. Telling folks to pull themselves up by their bootstraps when hr inherited generational wealth. P.O.S.
“Mellon is also so committed to electing Donald Trump that he’s also underwriting the presidential bid of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — apparently confident that the fellow blue blood with an iconic name can undermine support for the Democratic ticket.”
It’s too bad Schlossberg didn’t end up in prime time. Maybe Caroline or another identifiable Kennedy could get 3 minutes in prime time.
Bankrolling RFK to suck away votes from Biden ….lol…..Mellon must have inherited money because he ain’t too bright. How much did he throw away on that little venture I wonder.
“He misrepresents facts. He fabricates. He sounds authoritative. He presents what he cites as evidence. But he blends dollops of reality with his fevered fantasies and concocts a goulash of irrational conspiracy. If he’s not a self-aware con man, he must be delusional.”
“Donald Trump has long pitched assorted conspiracy theories—most notably, the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him. Yet he does so as a carnival barker who will say whatever he needs to say whenever he needs to say it. Kennedy comes across as a true believer in the lunacy he peddles. And the depth of his battiness has not received the attention it warrants. Kennedy is not just a possible spoiler candidate; he is a crackpot candidate.”
Excerpts from Bill Clinton’s prepared remarks tonight;
“In 2024, we have a clear choice: ‘We The People’ versus ‘Me Myself and I'”
“Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for the chance the American people gave me to be one of the 45 people who have held the job. Even on the bad days, you can still make something good happen. Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race with the vision, the experience, the temperament, the will, and yes—the sheer joy—to do that on good and bad days. To be our voice.”

Ah, we get PBS tonight. Olivia Troye, Mike Pence’s homeland security advisor, was just brilliant. She triggered the resident MAGAt into going outside. The “Republicans for Harris” will either deprogram the cult or anger them.
Stevie – god I love that man. He’s bringing me back to the feeling I had in Ferguson Center when Jessie Jackson appeared there supporting Jimmy Carter. 1976 if I remember. He was on fire. Stood there with George Jones and Sylvester Jones, a black man from Chicago and a black man from the projects in Birmingham, RIP to both, and as a white boy from Birmingham loved every word Jessie had to say.
Ivy, if you ever spent any time in rural MS when you were in the Cahaba Valley, you’d know what amount of bravery it would take for a black man to be a congressman from Mississippi.
Pogo, I made a lot of trips over to Hattiesburg and Southern Miss. I’d see the State flag flying at the rest stops and shudder every time. Great day when they replaced it.
1968 69, living in Memphis. Any time we’d have a couple of days off 3 of us’ns would pile into Kohler’s Fairlane and with plenty of beer we’d go down into Mississippi and just drive till we’d get lost, and then keep driving till we came out somewhere. I’d seen a bunch of rural Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina but Ole Miss was an eye-opener. Wish we’d had a camera.
When I was covering Clinton we always knew when he’s reading pages instead of teleprompter it means he didn’t finish writing it in time to load the prompter.
I was stationed in MS 73-76, and not at Keesler AFB Biloxi. At the time any Airman of color could transfer anywhere in the world there was an opening, no questions asked. I volunteered world wide, including Vietnam and Southeast Asia – before I signed on base. VN would have been only thirteen months and a better location returning to the States.
This is why Nancy was taking no chances on this election. Pumpkin really pissed off the Mother of Dragons:
“Donald Trump willfully betrayed his oath of office that day. Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on January 6 — he did. But let us not forget who saved democracy that day — we did.”
Independents and Undecideds are great and necessary, vital you can say, but will Kamala be able to bring out the Never Voteds for the first time in their lives? I’m getting the sense she’s even waking up them.
Lawrence O’Donnell is kvetching loudly about the TV time. He agrees with you, blue, it has to be wrapped up in time for the 11 o’clock news. Especially tomorrow.
Adolf is a sick man. Will they tweak his Adderall so he levels out, not too high or low energy? Will he be able to contain himself when Harris challenges him to his face? He should just run away now.
I have been watching. I have formed opinions: We can’t count on youth voters because they just won’t vote in numbers. Men of all races already are set. Trump likely will win that segment. This year , as explained over and again, the factor is women, women, women. Women will push Kamala over the finish line. There are too many of them that are fired up and they will find a way to cast ballots.
These RINOS like Duncan…yeah, they are talking a good game for us it would seem, criticizing Trump. But like Oscar Brown, Jr. , and Al Green sang, and Johnny Rivers covered so brilliantly decades ago, “…you knew damn well I was a snake before you brought me in.” “The Snake”, and I know Sturge is humming it as soon as he reads this.
It is my long life experience the conservatives never are for working class folks.
And I , days from turning 75, was tested today at 20-20 vision. I see things well. (My doctor said it s not all that unusual for a 75 year old to have 20-20 uncorrected vision, but she rarely sees it .)

Smart analysis by John Harris. Trump wants to be seen as a strong man. “I alone can fix it” is his mantra. The Obamas cut him down as a clown, a joke, old news, just whiner and a fraud. That’s how you diminish and attack him: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/08/21/obamas-dnc-attack-trump-column-00175334?nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=00000165-4399-d71e-afff-5b9d61200000&nlid=630318
He’s the kid whose shoe gets caught in the escalator and grinds it to a halt.
Today’s big lie.

I knew the DNC roll call had songs specific to each state, but I didn’t realize that those songs were selected by the state. Here is the list of songs used and which state they represented.

DEMS are crushing GOP in the ratings, by 21% Monday night and 55% last night.
Pumpkin is going to be bonkers over this, especially if she beats him Thursday night. He’s obsessed with this stuff…
Overnight ratings for Night Two of the conventions.
Seven networks combined:
DNC – 11.9 (10p-11:45p)
RNC – 7.7 (10-11:15p)
Difference: 55%
Is there another kind? Hugh Hewitt just nods along idiotically.
HA!
Stuart Stevens has been on quite a roll lately:
“Stupid is funny” is the slogan I hear from them.
They’ll be laughing out the other side.
Trump rally starts soon in Asheboro NC…

Trump on stage now

he literally just called himself “chump” because of it

He tried to talk about the revised labor numbers but ended up obsessing on Biden’s bathing suit at the beach
The idiots just applauded for 100% tariff on everything they buy.
We had no ammunition? Perfectly coifed women? WTF???
Who is he kidding, he never sponsored a golfer. Oh, wait, he asked them for payback.
Its’s hot and they’re starting to drop.
ps – Jamie, The first line of the song Texas chose, “Texas Hold ‘Em” starts with the line, “This ain’t Texas.” Ha! Well, I guess it was Chicago.
Just ordered a yard sign…

Wait, we wiped out ISIS in 3 weeks???
He’ll say anything, as long as it’s not the truth about PROJECT 2025.
Shine ALL of the sunlight on that vampire.
i’d criticize whatever the hell i just listened to, but it was unintelligible
they ended what looked like a klan rally with a gay anthem 🤨
“upper palate problem from the alleged adderal and coke”
yeah but his slurred-speech issue developed sometime between the Biden debate and the Musk interview
he’s sticking his lower jaw out for some reason
ok that traumatized me, enjoy the convention, y’all. It’s all about the follow-through ✌️ 🇺🇸
Oh, good. Now they’re listing the sponsors of the K3Nazi rally, so folks can boycott them.
Don’t go away mad Little Bobby, just go away.
Short of breath-ness too and he’s raspy. His crowd seemed largely bored of the tedium.
From Casler’s website.
I believe some of these may be excerpts from his stand up material, but I doubt Dumbass would think it is funny.
I used to love doing than YMCA song. It kills. One of the greatest Wedding Band songs ever cranked out.
Really sucks to see that slug using it.
“he’s sticking his lower jaw out for some reason”
Bink, that’s part of his Mussolini shtick
Wait, a final question
Who is his vendetta against? Not rhetorical
Oh and you know what, i’ve known amphetamine users, they’re always making weird jaw-movements, ok it all makes sense now 🤝
ok 1st time long time, ill take my answer off the air ☎️

The Scary Parallels Between Trump and Mussolini | History News Network

Silver lining: He’s 82.
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/timothy-mellon-maga-millions-donor-trump-robert-kennedy-jr-1235058295/
Mellon and the Felon.
One thing about getting under his skin: he never keeps it a secret…
Trump this afternoon:
What a whiner.
Breaking; RFKJr desperately seeking someone to surrender to after being rejected by Salvation Army.
Worm hole goes away.
Coverage starts an hour earlier on at least one broadcast network, so folks will get Secretary Pete, Clinton, and Walz, at the very least.
OPRAH SPEAKING TONIGHT!!!
Excerpts from Bill Clinton’s prepared remarks tonight;
Almost forgot about this gem from last night..

The list of speakers? The two mayors already spoke and Cory Booker is already speaking now.
Yep BiD, they’re working through the list — 10 speakers to go before Clinton
Dump Trump!
If that agenda is correct, they’re about 2-2 1/2 hours behind. Wholly smokes.
Ah, we get PBS tonight. Olivia Troye, Mike Pence’s homeland security advisor, was just brilliant. She triggered the resident MAGAt into going outside. The “Republicans for Harris” will either deprogram the cult or anger them.
Tourists?
Utter bullshit.
Oh, and by the way, FUCK TRUMP AND THE ASSHATS HE RODE IN WITH.
I loves me my Bennie. Brave Mississippian – and Ivy, does that mean something?
Pogo that’s the sked I got from DNC press office. They’re gonna have to bump some people. Glad they kept Stevie.
You’ll have to clue me in this time, Pogo.
Clinton is next
Hakeem is killing it!
BID. Absolutely.
BILL!!! Now we’re cooking.
78-year-old Bill Clinton: “I’m still younger than Donald Trump”
LOVING BILL CLINTON
Almost 20 years since Bill’s quadruple by-pass.
When I was covering Clinton we always knew when he’s reading pages instead of teleprompter it means he didn’t finish writing it in time to load the prompter.
“Mother of Dragons” Ha, that’s perfect. Nancy is THE BOSS!!!
The big dawg is just good, he has still got it.
Jack
Shapiro is really good speaker. Hope he can pull PA along.
Walz should be speaking already. I’m the only viewer left here; it’s too late for workers and folks who have to get kids up for school.
This is why Nancy was taking no chances on this election. Pumpkin really pissed off the Mother of Dragons:
We’re still here with you, blue.
OPRAH!!! Complicated times call for adult conversations.
Independents and Undecideds are great and necessary, vital you can say, but will Kamala be able to bring out the Never Voteds for the first time in their lives? I’m getting the sense she’s even waking up them.
Pete done good.
Prince song for Minnesota Walz. Cool!
Social Security Survivor Benefits is what I was raised on.
Lawrence O’Donnell says no republican legislators even know what that is.
They’re weird, wrong, and I say, warped.
Ok, that was good, best speech of the convention, so far. Go Coach Walz
Jack
I bet ole Neil approves of Coach Tim playing his song.
I like the “I’ve coached enough football to know that if they make a play book, they are going to use it” line!!
Great evening of outreach! Whoever you are, it’s time to party with people who like all types of people.
Poobah? What say ye?
Lawrence O’Donnell is kvetching loudly about the TV time. He agrees with you, blue, it has to be wrapped up in time for the 11 o’clock news. Especially tomorrow.
Pete will be on Colbert live, if y’all can stay awake.
Cory Booker saying we have to turn the page on the meanness. There’s going to be one last blast of it from Mr. T. before it goes down the tubes.
https://www.thebulwark.com/p/donald-trump-i-hate-my-opponent-harris-debate-prep
Adolf is a sick man. Will they tweak his Adderall so he levels out, not too high or low energy? Will he be able to contain himself when Harris challenges him to his face? He should just run away now.
Being hateful may be who and what he is, but this time, mixing it up with racial bigotry and misogyny, it’s going to blow up in his face.
