Political antidepressant – that sounds right. That feels right. Despite my initial skepticism about that choice, I’m happy to say I believe that skepticism was misplaced.

So I just saw  the clips of Dumbass in the police garage yesterday.  Looked like he was medicated, exhausted and like he was just resigned to perfunctorily reading someone else’s lines he didn’t really understand or believe. I hope that is how he comes off in his future performances, but fear that his anger will return and he and his campaign will turn back into the hyena show we’ve come to expect.

Here’s what Pumpkin Head had to say about the convention this morning.
Mr. Anger/Hate/Resentment is wide awake…

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Aug 21, 2024, 7:55 AM

Kathy Hochul, the very unpopular Governor of New York, was the nastiest speaker on Monday evening (at the Democrat National Convention) as it pertains to your favorite President, me. Her total hatred, and statements made about me, had no bounds. I was amazed for two reasons: Number one, I did a GREAT job in New York, employed thousands of people, built some of the most beautiful and successful buildings, and paid billions of dollars in taxes. Number two is that, on the very distinct possibility I will win the Presidency, wouldn’t it be better for the people of New York State to have a Governor who got along with the President? Adversarial relationships are not good in politics! Unfairly, I am before a very biased and hateful New York Judicial System that is appointed and largely controlled by the Governor. With the vitriol displayed by her on Monday night, it is no wonder that the Judges have treated me so badly. The whole system is RIGGED, and companies are leaving because of it!!!

Ana Navarro offered a master class last night in how to win Florida by peeling away Cuban and Venezuelan voters who fled dictators…

“Let’s be serious. Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don’t take it lightly. And let me tell you what communist dictators do. And it’s never just for one day. They attack the free press. They call them the enemy of the people like Ortega does in Nicaragua. They put their unqualified relatives in cushy government jobs so they can get rich off their positions like the Castros do in Cuba and they refuse to accept legitimate elections when they lose and call for violence to stay in power like Maduro is doing right now in Venezuela. Now you tell me something. Do any of those things sound familiar? Is there anybody running for president who reminds you of that?”

Craig, narcissistic collapse nails it, plus he’s an extreme extrovert personality type which means he has no internal source of energy, it all has to come from external sources, in his case large adulating crowds. Alone, his batteries are drained.

This kept me up reading last night. I wish I could say I knew exactly what – or who – Condoleezza Rice is talking about here, but I don’t. Small part of a long article.  The new Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—populism, nativism, isolationism, and protectionism—tend to ride together, and they are challenging the political center. Only the United States can counter their advance and resist the temptation to go back to the future. But generating support for an internationalist foreign policy requires a president to paint a vivid picture of what that world would be like without an active United States. In such a world, an emboldened Putin and Xi, having defeated Ukraine, would move on to their next conquest. Iran would celebrate the United States’ withdrawal from the Middle East and sustain its illegitimate regime by external conquest through its proxies. Hamas and Hezbollah would launch more wars, and hopes that Gulf Arab states would normalize relations with Israel would be dashed. The international economy would be weaker, sapping U.S. growth. International waters would be contested, with piracy and other incidents at sea stalling the movement of goods. American leaders should remind the public that a reluctant United States has repeatedly been drawn into conflict—in 1917, 1941, and 2001. Isolation has never been the answer to the country’s security or prosperity. Then, a leader must say that the United States is well positioned to design a different future. The country’s endlessly creative private sector is capable of continuous innovation. The United States has an unparalleled and secure energy bounty from Canada to Mexico that can sustain it through a reasonable energy transition over the many years it will take. It has more allies than any great power in history and good friends, as well. People around the world seeking a better life still dream of becoming Americans. If the United States can summon the will to deal with its immigration puzzle, it will not suffer the demographic calamity that faces most of the developed world. The United States’ global involvement will not look exactly as it has for… Read more »

Leave it to Dumbass to pick a 71 year old ex wrestler as the symbol of  strength and virility for his campaign.  The sonofabitch is a year and a half younger than me, and I don’t have whatever cardiac side-effects (heart attacks, strokes, liver tumors, kidney failure, and psychiatric problems) he is bound to have after his ‘roid use when he was young.  I suspect Kamala could outrun him in her heels.

https://abc7ny.com/post/michelle-obama-dnc-speech-read-full-text-former-ladys-address-night-2-democratic-convention/15211430/

Complete text of Michelle Obama’s magnificent speech, and here’s the scary part. Eleven weeks, folks.

“In some states, just a handful, listen to me a handful of votes in every precinct could decide the winner.”
“So we need to vote in numbers that erase any doubt. We need to overwhelm any effort to suppress us.“

The part where she pointed out that Adolf is not like is and trolled him without saying his name was masterful.

“She understands that most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward. We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.”

“If we bankrupt a business or choke in a crisis, we don’t get a second, third, or fourth chance.”

“If things don’t go our way, we don’t have the luxury of whining or cheating others to get further ahead, no. We don’t get to change the rules so we always win.”

“If we see a mountain in front of us, we don’t expect there to be an escalator waiting to take us to the top.”

craigcrawford

At the heart of Trumpism is a bitter anger driven by maladjusted weirdos who are determined to settle the score for all their imaginary slights.  A group found they could build an audience being angry, nasty, and bitter. I hope they push up the time tonight, so everyone can hear Tim Walz.

There was an opportunity for folks to hear Republicans who have left the fold for this election, but only one was broadcast in prime time.  It perked up the ears of the resident MAGAt, and then they went back to texting their tribe, just like I text my friends and post here.

They listened to a bit of Michelle Obama (whom they were afraid would run when the push for Biden to step down was on), and then went to their room.

The talking heads obscured Tammy Duckworth, last night, so I changed channels because I was tracking it on my phone, too.  (She needed a speechwriter.)

The commentators also talked over most of the reproductive rights speeches, except the last one, which was excruciatingly sad.

Sturg – Re: Noel Casler
“The Apprentice” NDA’s may not be enforceable by Donald Trump or his organizations and the producers may not want them enforced for fear of what else may come out. This is certainly some of the more outrageous facts about Donald Trump which exist in the public sector. Failure to prosecute this certainly raises questions about why he prosecutes claims of others, particularly when he has a NDA on the line.”

From Casler’s website.

“I’ve seen Trump snort Adderall, sh*t himself on a TV set and make his 16 year old daughter give him a lap dance. But that was the craziest shit I have ever seen him do.”

“The president is a speed freak…. It makes sense if you think about it. Methamphetamine was invented by the Nazis to keep the fighter pilots up all night on bombing runs. Now Trump uses it to hate-tweet from the toilet at four A.M. in a self-centered rage.”

Casler says Trump takes these substances “because he suffers from dyslexia, and he got really nervous when he had to read cue cards on set.” He adds, “I used to see him coming out of the dressing room with Adderall coming out of his nose.”

I believe some of these may be excerpts from his stand up material, but I doubt Dumbass would think it is funny.

I like the “I’ve coached enough football to know that if they make a play book, they are going to use it” line!!

Great evening of outreach!  Whoever you are, it’s time to party with people who like all types of people.

Lawrence O’Donnell is kvetching loudly about the TV time. He agrees with you, blue, it has to be wrapped up in time for the 11 o’clock news. Especially tomorrow.

Cory Booker saying we have to turn the page on the meanness. There’s going to be one last blast of it from Mr. T. before it goes down the tubes.

Adolf is a sick man.  Will they tweak his Adderall so he levels out, not too high or low energy?   Will he be able to contain himself when Harris challenges him to his face?   He should just run away now.

Being hateful may be who and what he is, but this time, mixing it up with racial bigotry and misogyny, it’s going to blow up in his face.

I have been watching. I have formed opinions:  We can’t count on youth voters because they just won’t vote in numbers.  Men of all races already are set.  Trump likely will win that segment.  This year , as explained over and again, the factor is women, women, women.  Women will push Kamala over the finish line. There are too many of them that are fired up and they will find a way to cast ballots.
These RINOS like Duncan…yeah, they are talking a good game for us it would seem, criticizing Trump.  But like Oscar Brown, Jr. , and Al Green sang, and Johnny Rivers covered so brilliantly decades ago, “…you knew damn well I was a snake before you brought me in.” “The Snake”, and I know Sturge is humming it as soon as he reads this.
It is my long life experience the conservatives never are for working class folks.
And I , days from turning 75, was tested today at 20-20 vision.  I see things well.  (My doctor said it s not all that unusual for a 75 year old to have 20-20 uncorrected vision, but she rarely sees it .)
