August 2020 – life is still behind K95 masks, or something that might be just a piece of tissue paper.  Campaigns are battling for votes and how to vote.  Food delivery is a new part of many lives.  Amazon next day delivery sometimes is like forty-five days.  People are now starting to hit the road again, I liked it better when everybody was confined to their family rooms.

    Joe Biden had outlasted all the youngsters to become the Dems presidential nominee.  And, Kamala Harris was chosen from a large contingent of worthy women to be his vice presidential partner.  It was quite a year to this point, a year of disruption, confusion and pain. Also thousands were dying or near death.
     
    Summer time and the living is easy.

  19. Thanks Corey for flagging that ad. I had not seen it, that is the first sign that Miriam Adelson is pumping in the big bucks because that is her Preserve America Pac doing it. She and late husband Sheldon spent 90 million dollars for Trump in 2020 and it wasn’t enough, so maybe it won’t be again.

    I don’t see this ad affecting swing voters, do you? Seems more designed to further inflame the anti-immigrant vote he’s already got. Portraying her as evil and “dangerous” seems over the top.

    We saw this time and again during his Presidency. Brazenness remains Trump’s superpower. It’s hard to think of another politician who might willingly play an unhinged racist on national television as a way of diverting attention, but it’s utterly plausible with this one. Nine years into Trump’s political career, the mystery is not that he keeps doing it but that so many Americans keep falling for it.

The part of the interview that I found funniest was him telling the journalist on the end of the stage to the right that he could only hear every other word she was saying because of the bad electronics. She was 10 feet away from him and was speaking very loudly and clearly. Maybe needed to turn his fucking hearing aids up.

    But one fascinating trend is the recent flurry of so-called Zoom rallies supporting the campaign to elect Kamala Harris. With hundreds of thousands of attendees and more than $15 million raised, they have proved to be an unexpected tour de force.
    The trend began almost as soon as Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee, with a group called Win With Black Women publicizing one of its regularly scheduled Sunday evening Zoom calls on MSNBC. The publicity prompted tens of thousands to join. Together, over three hours, they raised $1.6 million.1
    Following that lead, last Thursday, “White Women Answer the Call” became what was thought to be comfortably the biggest Zoom call ever when it attracted 164,000 attendees over several hours — enough people to fill Madison Square Garden eight times over. A staggering $11 million was donated, organizer Shannon Watts told me. “Now that the pandemic is over,” she said, “this is really the first presidential election with Zoom as a more developed and popular tool.     At the time, I poo poo it.  Then Joe dropped out making it half correct.  Who knows.  I don’t see the orange one going down without a biiiiigly fight though.

Steve was way behind on his child support and he avoided it by doing jobs off the books so he never had an income the courts could go after. One evening at the local bar he was setting beside me and he said I got to go, got to get up early and be at work at 6.” Knowing he avoided real work like the plague I ask “Whats the deal?”
    “Oh, the judge told me I had to get a job with a paystub or go to jail, the prosecutor talked him into it. ” Then he said the line I always thought would make a great political ad. It was like Sam Elliot at the bar delivered this line. “That Claire McCaskill, She is a mean woman.”

  34. I so agree Jack about that hit job on Kamala. It seemed slap together without really making the connection between immigration and Kamala, just an excuse to call her a bunch of names. Democrats don’t have to win this issue (because they’re not going to), they just have to neutralize it. And unlike abortion for Republicans they’ve got a great tool for minimizing the damage in Trump’s stupid blocking of the border bill. This Kamala ad goes right to that, about as good as it’s going to get for Democrats on this issue…

  64. Somebody left a flyer on my front door about the Republican candidates in my area. It was in a clear plastic bag. It said, “Facts vs. The Media”. They must have done this yesterday. Sadly, I did not see it until this afternoon. We had a thunderstorm overnight, so the flyer got completely soaked and I was unable to look through it. LOL!

Way back umpteen zillion years ago, I lived in Santa Monica.  My then 15 year old son spent hours at the ice rink watching Tai Babilonia and her partner practice for world and Olympic competition.  Today, I was on threads and there was the now 64 year old Tai supporting her fellow multiracial candidate:  Kamala.
