wakey wakey! it’s later than you think today

A Must watch, this is what happens when Tyber hits the streets……Croydon High Street 2.8.14

wiki about the dualers:

The Dualers are an eight-piece (or nine-piece) ska and reggae band from South East London. Initially comprising brothers Si and Tyber Cranstoun, and now led by Tyber following Si’s departure in 2010 for a solo career, they first developed a profile when the single “Kiss on the Lips” entered the UK top 30, peaking at 21, in October 2004 despite no industry backing.
The Dualers have supported Madness at their large outdoor concerts and played headline gigs at Indigo O2, Fairfield Halls in Croydon and the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.
The Dualers started out in 1999 as a busking duo of Si Christone and Tyber O’Neil (brothers Simon David Cranstoun and Jonathan Lloyd Cranstoun) who could be found on the streets of Bromley, Canterbury, Croydon, Kingston and Romford playing a mix of doo-wop, pop and ska.

speaking of the dastardly daylight time change (this coming from a confirmed dyed-in-the-wool morning person who hates going to bed when it’s still daylight)

Daylight saving time: Which states want to stop changing the clocks? (thehill.com)

[…]
Many states have tried to pass bills to make permanent daylight saving time the norm or enacted resolutions that would allow the state to do so should Congress give them permission. At least 19 states have already enacted such legislation or resolutions, according to the NCSL. That includes AlabamaColorado, Delaware, FloridaGeorgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, OhioOregonSouth CarolinaTennesseeUtah, Washington and Wyoming.
Some of that legislation would also require one or more neighboring states to jump into permanent daylight saving time before the original state would. The bill introduced in Illinois earlier this year, for example, would put the state on permanent standard time only if Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin would do the same.
Last year, nearly 30 states considered legislation regarding daylight saving time, data from the NCSL shows. In most cases, those efforts were stalled or failed.
Bills introduced on the federal level have faced the same fate. That includes the 2023 version of Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) Sunshine Protection Act, a bill introduced by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) to give states the power to stay on daylight saving time year-round, and a similar bill brought forth by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.). All three were referred to committees, where they have remained since March 2023.
So as you grumble while you reset your manual clocks, just know you will — most likely — have to do it all again in early November when daylight saving time ends. At least then, you’ll gain that hour of sleep that you lost this weekend.

BTW a bill has been introduced in KY legislature to remain on standard time. probably won’t see daylight passing though.  if so, can’t imagine how the western part which is on central time while the bulk of the state is on eastern will manage that. but worth giving a try due to the mischief the change causes such as more highway deaths and health effects on children to say nothing of trying to deal with animals who don’t wear adjustable watches about meal and bed times.

PatD, you got me thrown off yesterday with the SNL mixup. Thought it was Sunday all day and went looking for the Oscars last night. This morning I woke up, looked at phone and saw it was 6:41 — time to get up. Later I realized it was 5:41, could have slept another hour. Crazy!

PatD, on that Guardian article about what’s being called “double haters”, it’s true they exist and might be the deciding factor. But the good news: In 2020 and now, Biden comfortably leads among them. Sadly, this campaign is destined to be centered on who does the best job of making the other guy the most hated.

Compromise!  It’s the American way. Run the clocks forward HALF AN HOUR and leave them that way until the end of time.  History will stand up and applaud and will then sit back with a smug expression on its face.

Yeah that Saturday-Sunday thing almost got me too…..I thought I’d missed Svengoolie.

”The Moscow State University student, identified by RIA as Oleg Tarasov, had changed the name of his WIFI network to “Slava Ukraine,” which translates to “Glory to Ukraine” in English…”

“The student was found guilty of propaganda and the “public display of Nazi symbols” by the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow on Thursday, and authorities confiscated his router, state-run RIA reported.”

“Next week, a tightly-controlled election, in which the country’s only anti-war candidate has been barred from standing, will likely see Putin extend his rule into the 2030s.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/found-liable-attack-trump-claims-e-jean-carroll-made-false-accusations-rcna142637
“Former President Donald Trump on Saturday reiterated his claim that writer E. Jean Carroll had levied “false accusations” against him, even as similar remarks have resulted in large court judgments against him.”

Wonder how much she’ll get for number three?

“I just posted a $91 million bond, $91 million on a fake story, totally made-up story,” he said, referencing the bond he posted this week as he appeals a defamation verdict against him.

“Ninety-one million based on false accusations made about me by a woman that I knew nothing about, didn’t know, never heard of, I know nothing about her,” he continued.

“She wrote a book, she said things,” Trump told the raucous crowd in Rome, about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta. “And when I denied it, I said, ‘It’s so crazy. It’s false.’ I get sued for defamation. That’s where it starts.”

Yep, it starts with your mouth and here you are, again.

Ms. Carroll is living in his head and it is paying good money to keep her there.  Karma is a rich payback, in this case sfb somehow thought getting others to pay his bond made him free of her.  However, she has until 1100 March 11, 2024 to object to the bond.  My calendar shows the orange idiot opened his big fish-like mouth a couple days early.  Yup, I am sure her attorney and paralegal are huddled over the keyboard this day typing a nice reply for the judge to read tomorrow morning.  I wonder how much it will cost to unravel that bond?

Yeah, lumber is particularly sensitive to supply/demand and bounces around based on how active the construction sector is.  While at $570 per 1000 bf it is almost double what it was in May – June last year at $344/1000, the price went from $344/1000 on 6/19/23 to $560.50 one week later on 6/26. peaking at $580 on 7/21, so the jump that led to Pilar’s comment took place during the third week of June last year, and with some fluctuations has  remained close to what it is today.  And to put it in a little perspective, lumber was $1670.50 per 1000 on 5/3/21, so today’s prices are 1/3 what the were just under 3 years ago.  just before or at those peaks, construction was at very high levels, so the demand for lumber was high.  Specifically related to the $1670 peak, that was 2 months after passage of the Covid recovery legislation.

Why is there TijTokkers on the red carpet SS the Oscars?  They didn’t make movies.  Social media may have leveled the playing field by giving a lot of folks access to showcase their…whatever, but it really lowered the bar, too.

I wonder if Gaza will be given a mention?
All presenters and winners should call out Netanyahu and call for an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution. Shout out to Putin for invading and killing Ukrainians. Shame, without naming, Orange Adolf. Make tonight mean something. If Ruffalo were to win, he’d definitely say something. Maybe Ironman, who’s more likely to win, would say something.

Folks need to remember that tRUMPsky promised another Muslim travel ban if he’s re-elected, and said nobody from Gaza could come to the US. The international community has failed to come together in a meaningful way, so don’t just keep yelling about Biden. He’s not the CIC of Israeli forces.

Pilar mentioned the influx of people from up north into his area of NC.  That same thing has happened to my area, the so-called “low country”, the SC coast.  This area began to change during WwII with the great influx of people from all over (including my dad from Alabam) whe re-located to the Charleston area to work at the Naval shipyard, most of whom remained after the war ended.  The then locals who had had things pretty much all their way up till then did not receive the newcomers completely happily, as the newcomers began to agitate and alter the “established order”.  So that change was still underway when the northerners began to arrive in the mid 70’s.   They came in droves and they’re still coming.  I

I welcomed them…….and I welcomed the change they’ve brought to the low country. (One aspect of that change was the low country voted largely for Nikki Haley over Stump in the past GOP primary while the rest of SC stayed mired in the past miseries. Haley in that respect represented a vast change from the mindset of the Stumpers )
Personally, I went from making cheap Formica countertop kitchens to very high-end and high tech (ergo high-dollar) ones, with nice stone countertops. I really hate Formica with a towering passion.
