Sunday Serendipity

From Wikipedia

The Symphony No. 3 in E♭ major, Op. 55, Eroica, is a symphony in four movements by Ludwig van Beethoven.

One of Beethoven’s most celebrated works, the Eroica symphony is a large-scale composition that marked the beginning of the composer’s innovative “middle period”.

Composed mainly in 1803–1804, the work broke boundaries in symphonic form, length, harmony, emotional and cultural content. It is widely considered a landmark in the transition between the Classical and the Romantic era. It is also often considered to be the first Romantic symphony.

Enjoy, Jack

interesting 2016 story on it from conductors’ PsOV:

Beethoven’s Eroica voted greatest symphony of all time | Classical music | The Guardian

Beethoven’s thrilling, electrifying Eroica, a piece of music originally dedicated to Napoleon and celebrating the revolutionary spirit sweeping Europe, has been named the greatest symphony of all time by the world’s greatest conductors.
BBC Music Magazine surveyed 151 conductors working across the world to come up with a top 20 great symphonies.
The Eroica, Beethoven’s Third Symphony, came in at No 1, followed by his Ninth, the “Choral”, in second place. Mozart’s last symphony, No 41, the “Jupiter”, was in third place while Mahler occupied the next two places with his Ninth and Second symphonies respectively.
Surprisingly, Beethoven’s Fifth, with its instantly recognisable duh-duh-duh-duuuh opening, missed out on a top 10 spot, coming in 11th place.
Oliver Condy, editor of the magazine, admitted it was no great surprise Beethoven dominated the list. “It has been over 200 years since Beethoven’s symphony number three was written and the vote suggests that it has not been improved on in those years, which is remarkable really and is testament to his absolute genius.
“Conductors love conducting it. They love it because there is just so much to it, there is so much happening … that opening is a real punch in the face.”
The British conductor Jonathan Nott, music director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, told the magazine the Eroica was boundary-breaking. “This symphony is not about the glory of God, it’s about humans – our struggles, challenges and victories.

Looking through the latest scores and notes of games played by the NFL training teams it is now clear how much the players need to unionize.  Sure they can get some cash for being in advertisements, but they need to be able to strike and go for good wages, almost as good as the top level NFL.

University of Colorado is a great example.  Last year they smelled even worse than Broncos training center in Greeley. This year they are a shining example of what a coach with money can buy.  Kick out the losers, hire a first string from other teams colleges around the country.  Be a winning team even though the players are Black and the state is White (97% pale), no recruiting locally can bring in the bodies.  Yeah.  Prime is a leader.  Go Buffs!

Jack – Thanks.  It’s amazing that Beethoven was already starting to experience some hearing loss before he wrote this work.   Beautiful.

“…in the Hawkeye state on Saturday, as former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made some defensive moves ahead of the first GOP primary in January 2024.”

“But the former president’s reception wasn’t universally positive and met with audible boos and obscene gestures throughout the day, including a plane flying a “Where’s Melania?” banner. The flyover was a dig at Trump’s third wife, who is seldom seen with her husband and has reportedly rebuffed his multiple requests to join him on the campaign trail.”

* Iowans gave the finger to both tRUMPsky and DuhSantis. That’s not to say they will give their votes to a Dem, but it was nice to folks who look like their key demographic giving them the universal sign for “you suck” to their faces.

“While Trump took in the game in box seats, DeSantis watched in the stands with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, who has appeared with DeSantis and his wife, Casey, numerous times. In July, DeSantis said he’d consider tapping Reynolds as his running mate, and is seeking to exploit a rift between the Iowa governor and Trump. Reynolds reportedly did not interact with Trump “in any way” on Saturday.”

“Game day attendees were also met by two inflatable figures resembling Trump and Anthony Fauci, the former White House medical advisor, wielding an inflatable syringe to represent the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s unclear who sponsored the stunt, but in July, the Iowa political director of the pro-DeSantis Never Back Down super PAC oversaw an identical set of costumed characters who followed Trump to several campaign stops.”

“On Saturday, Never Back Down released an ad designed to reach digital devices around the stadium that criticized the former president for allowing transgender women to compete in Miss America pageants and promised to “end the insanity.”

“In addition to Trump and DeSantis, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum attended game day events Saturday, to much less fanfare.”

i enjoy the intertubes.  Although not humorous there are some who cannot grasp that time has rolled on and things changed.  Especially aging over past events.  Almost everyday someone in one of my “social networks” (I hate the phrase) is irate and berating the world because their remembrance of an atrocity was not noted by people on their world of internet.  Besides the issue of everyday is now a day when some horrible event occurred, people move on.  We no longer hold school assemblies to honor those who died at Pearl Harbor, or the killing at Kent State, or 9-11.  School killings, grocery store killings, street killings, and more are not honored/remembered.  The young are now the adults.  The adults of then are now out of circulation.  The sadness is I would like to hold a bit of a day for horrible events.  There are too many now.  Are Americans numb to this?  Yes and no.  Too many and way too much overwhelming of emotions.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4195861-ramaswamy-says-hed-deport-children-of-undocumented-immigrants-born-in-the-us-calling-14th-amendment-contested/

“GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said Friday he would deport the children of undocumented immigrants with their families, despite them already being U.S. citizens.”

“There are legally contested questions under the 14th Amendment of whether the child of an illegal immigrant is indeed a child who enjoys birthright citizenship or not,” Ramaswamy said after a town hall in Iowa.”

“Former President Trump announced in late May that on his first day back in office, he would seek to end birthright citizenship by way of an executive order.”

*Despite maternity tourism from Russians giving birth at tRUMPsky properties.

“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has also pledged to end birthright citizenship. In his immigration plan, DeSantis’s campaign said citizenship rules as practiced now in the U.S. are “inconsistent with the original understanding of 14th Amendment.”
“We will take action to end the idea that the children of illegal aliens are entitled to birthright citizenship if they are born in the United States,” the plan, which is titled “No Excuses,” reads.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4195831-rfk-jr-we-should-be-voting-for-a-president-who-we-expect-to-complete-the-term/

A) I fully expect POTUS Joe to finish a second term in good health, based on family longevity, a strong sense of purpose, and a loving, supportive wife, family and friends.

B) I also think we should be voting for a President who believes in science, especially as it pertains to public health, and not some whack-job, anti-vaxxer, trust fund-nepo baby.

C) I also believe that Republicans shouldn’t be running as Democrats. Tell the truth, Bobby.
