  1. last thread a dusty dry trail lamented the nation’s need for water and ways to get it such as dipping into old man river.

what about dipping into more discovery and development of hydrogen vehicles which have the promise of water production (however miniscule at the moment).  imagine one’s own water well in one’s garage.  silly idea?  well, it wasn’t that long ago people laughed at the thought of going to the moon, let alone to mars.

a hint of the future is here already

  2. Had our last upper 80s-90s day for the next week and a half yesterday. Looking at upper 70s-mid 80s with 50ish % chances of rain most days through the middle of next week. Whew. Wish the rest of the country was getting a similar break.

  3. Joni, Newport. Scroll down for the performance.

It was a full set where Mitchell performed multiple classics, and delivered a guitar solo, alongside Brandi Carlile. It was the icon’s first full show in over 20 years.

  4. And that bunch of backup singers is certainly noteworthy – including Wynona Judd and a host of others doing a tribute to Joni. Gonna have to watch the whole damn thing tonight.

  5. Interesting clip.
For the first time in my life we are actually having a supply side problem. It comes from a labor shortage, we don’t have enough people to produce the goods we want. We have thrown up trade barriers so we can’t use the labor of other countries and we have restricted immigration. Our economy is still being run as if it is the eighties and we have a surplus of boomers to do the work. We are all retiring.
Then we add in the “shit happens” things, from Putin to bird flu, to a major drought in the southwest, now spreading across the lower great plains and into the Mississippi valley and of course we still have the covid.
One thing I’ve learned is most problems can be solved by putting one foot in front of the other, a step at a time. But they almost never get solved by standing around bitching, moaning and pointing fingers. Which is what is happening now.
There are a number of things that our current president could do to ease our pain but he seems to be politically frozen. When we need dynamic leadership he seems to be unable to deliver. I’m beginning to suspect he is too old for this job.

  7. From Ms. Dallas’ neck of the woods – you know, the land of open carry?  Love Field terminal evacuated after woman shoots the place up.

Dallas police responded to reports of a shooting incident Monday that prompted the evacuation of the terminal at Dallas Love Field Airport.

Dallas police Chief Edgardo Garcia said a 37-year-old woman fired a handgun at the airport and was shot and arrested by police. No one else was injured.

The woman was dropped off about 11 a.m. near the Southwest Airlines ticket counter, then went into a restroom to change clothes before reemerging, Garcia said.

“She produces a handgun and begins firing. At this point, we don’t know where exactly the individual was aiming, the most of what we’re seeing now is she was aiming at the ceiling,” Garcia said, noting early information is likely to change as the investigation continues.

An officer who was nearby shot her in the “lower extremities,” he said. The woman was taken to into custody and to Parkland Hospital.

  10. Home school, where the “teacher” has to have at least a GED.  Biggest bunch of crap in the world of education.  And people in WV wonder why they get such a bad rap in the education rankings.

  11. Bink, do they even teach it in public schools?  not sure either place teaches science/civics/history nowadays in the red states.

  12. i tell all kids the same thing, patd:

”if you want to be a dumbass your whole life, no one will stop you, but if you want an education, there’s a whole building here full of people whose job it is to help you get one”

  13. …or you can go to “home school” where your entire resource network is your mentally-ill mother, yay “school choice” 😬

ok we’re doomed, enjoy your day 🌸

  14. The didn’t teach “civics” when I went to school.  My grandmother was appalled when she found it was missing, along with “penmanship” (muscular movement exercises to write fancy).   Now, they don’t even teach cursive writing.   As a teen said, as he watched a protest in NY when he saw someone’s sign written in cursive:  “Thats stupid. Nobody can even read that sign.”

patD – Thanks for catching the KO story.  (I still want to see the old, monkey pox child and Sky Stallone’s psychic mother clips.)
