Flop, Flip, Flap

On page 177 of “Disloyal: A Memoir” by Michael Cohen is a blow by blow accounting of what once was a secret closely held by the President of the United States, the construction of his bouffant pompadour dyed gold.
The elaborate coiffing is accomplished in three carefully performed maneuvers of the shoulder length tresses which cascade from a scarred balding pate on the right and back side. To wit:
(1) The back locks are flopped forward, (2) those left hanging over the face are then flipped back and (3) the side strands are flapped over that. A thorough hair spraying secures the three layered structure. “Flop, flip, flap.”

Flop, flip and flap could also describe the standard order of the many scandalous events immortalized in the book about DJT. He flops, he flips the truth and a flap ensues.

  1. michael’s observation was in vegas in 2013 and things may have changed with more thinning, up-graded products, less to mound and an aging head.  that was 7 years ago, here’s what it looked like 2+ years ago:

  2. so far IMHO the cohen memoir, compared to the other D’ump tell-alls, whether fully truthful or not is more entertaining and more likely than the others to be adapted as a movie.  be it a coen comedy or a pakula suspense or a spielberg biopic, zombie-like  we haven’t seen the last of it.

  3. wapo today on more serious matters:

A top communications official for the administration’s coronavirus response urged President Trump’s supporters to prepare for an armed insurrection after a contested election and accused government scientists of “sedition” in a Facebook Live chat that he described in detail to The Washington Post on Monday.
Michael Caputo, assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services, which is overseeing the coronavirus response, leveled the accusations and promoted other conspiracy theories in a Facebook Live event first reported by the New York Times. Caputo confirmed the authenticity of the video in comments he made to The Post.
    […]
He also predicted that Trump would win the election but that Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, would refuse to concede. “And when Donald Trump refuses to stand down at the inauguration, the shooting will begin,” he warned in the video. “The drills that you’ve seen are nothing. If you carry guns, buy ammunition, ladies and gentlemen, because it’s going to be hard to get.”

  5. Politics aside, there’s good news from Pittsburgh. UPMC announces development of potentially great news in the COVID fight

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — University of Pittsburgh scientists have isolated a biomolecule that “completely and specifically” neutralizes the virus that causes coronavirus.

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine researchers isolated the smallest biological molecule to date that neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to a report published Monday in the journal Cell. The antibody component is 10 times smaller than a full-sized antibody and has been used to create a drug known as Ab8 for use as a therapeutic and preventative against SARS-CoV-2, the report says.

There will Be a presser at 2:00 EDT this afternoon to announce this development. I’ll try to catch it on streaming media at KDKA.

  6. Once again the Putin reelection campaign is caught with Russians or Naziis supporting SFB.  This time it was Support Our Troops with MiG’s in the picture.  Too bad they did not run it by the American side of the rnc before publishing.
I live in Maryland, my misleading post card will probably arrive November 4.

  7. Sturg, CNN is reporting that the USPS mail in voting postcard has misleading information on it.

CNN)Bipartisan election officials are warning residents that a postcard sent to all households by the US Postal Service contains inaccurate information about mail-in voting.
Officials in Utah, Nevada and Maryland on Monday joined Colorado in publicly rebuking the USPS mailers, which were intended to help Americans navigate the vote-by-mail process.
The mailers said voters should “request your mail in ballot… at least 15 days before Election Day.” But that isn’t accurate for all states — especially for the millions of Americans living in the nine states and Washington, DC, that automatically mail ballots to every registered voter.
The official “Vote Utah” Twitter account, run by the office of Republican Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, told residents to ignore the voting instructions from USPS in a series of posts on Monday.
“You may see a mailer from USPS directing you to request a mail-in/absentee ballot,” the tweets said. “UT voters DO NOT need to request a mail-in/absentee ballot. Ballots are automatically mailed to all active registered voters starting 21 days prior to Election Day.”
In Nevada, Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske also said the mailers didn’t accurately explain election procedures, according to KVVU in Las Vegas. Cegavske also said her office wasn’t aware of the postcards before USPS sent them out to all households across the country.

    And…

Over the weekend, Colorado’s Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold won a court order over the weekend temporarily blocking USPS from sending any additional mailers in the state. In a Twitter post on Friday, before filing the lawsuit, Griswold said, “When we asked USPS not to send the postcard with misinformation to voters in Colorado they flat out refused.”
Officials in Maryland, which is not an all-mail state, spoke out Monday to say that the USPS postcard was “inconsistent” with local guidance for how to most effectively cast a mail ballot.

  8. too bad USPS spent all that time, money and labor on the postcard and not on ensuring the proper handling of absentee/mailin ballots, reversing dejoy’s destruction and beefing up needed manpower.

  9. I’ll go vote in person, I think.  Busted glass and all that jazz.

Do they think I’m here for their personal amusement?

  10. patd, like I said yesterday (or was it Sunday?  My CRS interferes …) the postcard is nothing but cover for DeJoy and D’ump when the USPS at D’ump’s direction fails to deliver ballots by state deadlines for receipt.

  11. Sturg – The USPS postcard seemed incredibly suspect to me.  It gave non-state specific timelines for requesting and returning a mail-in ballot.   Why spend the money on a mass mailing after removing and destroying sorting machines?  It’s tRUMP propaganda.

Yes, tRUMP is arrogant and his hairdo is a manifestation of that arrogance.  It’s not worth a news cycle, I hope.   On with his illegal and immoral activities.
Wednesday, there is an FB and IG blackout to punish them for supporting hate groups.  Gonna take more than a day of lost ad revenue to do that, folks.
Mike Bloomberg to the rescue in Florida and anywhere else the Russians are making progress.   Maybe the MSM should cover that.  Show the specifics of what the Russians are doing and how folks are being played…and how it benefits Poo-tin and kills democracy.
Nah, they will spend a news cycle chasing something silly.  Never fails.

  12. I would be willing to go stand in line to vote against Trump except that there is no place for me to stand.  Washington is an all mail in ballot state.

  13. jamie, what effect will the fires have on your state’s, CA’s and oregon’s mail-in vote ability?  a lot of people evacuated, houses burned down, IDs lost,  postal service iffy…

wonder how many voters will have to go and vote the provisional ballot route and will there be enough time to set up all that’s needed?

  14. First, the homeless can vote in all 50 states.  The word needs to get out how to do it as it is a registration method

    https://www.nonprofitvote.org/voting-in-your-state/special-circumstances/voting-and-homelessness/

Normally this needs to be done 30 days before an election, so each state may have emergency procedures in place.  Definitely, a provisional ballot could be cast for places with voting locations, but for all mail such as Oregon & WA the easiest way would be to go to the local registrar and pick up a ballot and vote it right there to turn it in.

  15. Yeah… we got the post card…  and promptly ignored it.
We can go to our town hall… ask for an absentee ballot… fill it out and hand it over to our town clerk.  No post office involved.

patd…  I’ve been slowly making my way through the Cohen book.  His story on his upbringing is fascinating!  Yeah…  just a “normal kid” hanging out in his uncle’s business establishment frequented by mob bosses.

  16. i wonder how many innocent migrant children trump can punitively separate from their families and imprison in that hairdo?

  17. i wonder how much money trump can embezzle from his campaign, inauguration fund, and American taxpayers through dealing government contracts to his own businesses, and then hide in his hairdo?

  18. i wonder how many indicted, convicted, and under-investigation close associates and former employees of trump can fit underneath one of trump’s hair-flaps?

  19. Bink, with THAT hairdo the answers are:
    1. As many as he wants to assassinate;
    2. As many as there are;
    3. As much as he can (but the space available may be limited by the dead foreign heads of state and the innocent migrant children in there).
    4. The number may be limitless, certainly growing, but see #3, above.

Looks like it’s going to get crowded in there. Hillary C and Hunter Biden may get pissed at the crowding since they live in his head rent free.

  20. Somewhat related: say i was President and wanted to hire and appoint employees exclusively with close ties to the Kremlin and Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs like Flynn, Rudy, Bannon, Manafort, Stone, Caputo, and the like, should i use use gel or mousse?

  21. i was thinking about not using shampoo anymore and only rinsing with conditioner so my so it looks like my hair has more body while i praise anti-human dictators like Kim Jong-Un, President Xi of China, and Vladimir Putin (big fan), and then in the next breath call young American men who braved terrible deaths thousands of miles from home in the primes of their youth to defend the people and country they loved “losers” and “suckers”, but i’m not sure which brand to use.  Any recommendations?

  22. Ok, it was a welcome respite to forgo discussing politics, today, and entertain some lighter fare.  Let’s do more of this.

Black American church leaders have accused Donald Trump of inciting “white terrorism” against people of colour and depicting churchgoers as “thugs” in a presidential election campaign ad.
They are calling for the advertisement’s removal from display and federal protection from any bias or threats it could provoke.
The video, named Meet Joe Biden’s Supporters, is online and includes violent scenes of burning buildings and police cars followed by footage of the Democratic presidential nominee kneeling in front of the altar at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church alongside Black clergy members and community leaders in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.
The apparent voice of Vice-President Mike Pence is heard saying, “You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America.” It then cuts to text that reads: “Stop Joe Biden and his rioters.”
The AME church on Monday denounced the ad, which they said links the church to violence and implies “that those who gathered there are ‘thugs’”. Meanwhile, the Bethel pastor Silvester Beaman told Religion News Service (RNS): “The ad is overtly racist and offensive on numerous levels.”

  24. Oh, sorry, but i don’t need any hairstyle advice for the pandemic, because that’s all going tremendously, ask anyone.  A death toll equivalent to SEVENTY SEPTEMBER ELEVENTHS before autumn is a success by any measure.

Ok, pardon me, that is all.

  25. One of the little things that separates Biden from the other guy is he gets the security briefings that the imbecile does not.  It could be that the briefings include a lot of information that would upset an unstable idiot, but since he does not get briefed he is living alone in his alternate universe.  In other words, he is getting the Russian briefing which SFB does not want done.

  26. I just looked at the security logs for my website.  I must have poked Putin real hard Friday.  They started attacking then and have not let up.  I have to agree with them that Putin is smarter than SFB.  It does not make him likable though.  I dislike both of the creatures.

edit – it was something I posted on Thursday.

  27. Bink – That was great and exactly what the media needs to do when tRUMPsky and his minions try to pivot instead of answer questions.  Just use their pivot. Bravo!

THE BIDEN-HARRIS campaign is out with a series of new ads aimed at Black Americans in swing states, appealing for votes from a community that votes heavily Democratic but did not turn out in high enough numbers to deliver a victory to Democrats in 2016.T
The ads, set to run on TV and digital platforms, feature testimonials from African Americans lamenting the state of the nation under President Donald Trump and the power of Black voters to change things – if they register and vote.
“For the thousands who did not vote, we need you to show up for our future and our country,” an African American man tells fellow North Carolina barber shop patrons in “Shop Talk Our Right,” one of two 30-second ads taking place in a Black barber shop. “You cannot sit on the sidelines. You’ve got to get in the game.”
Both ads will air in Michigan, North Carolina and Wisconsin, while “Shop Talk Trust” will air in Florida and “Shop Talk Our Right” will run in Pennsylvania. Biden is scheduled to visit Florida Tuesday while his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, is set to head to Pennsylvania that day.
An extended, 60-second version of “Shop Talk Our Right” will run nationally.

  31. I’d suggest similar ads featuring prominent Latinos, preferably Cuban from So. FL, and heavy targeting of the southern half of FL and perhaps in AZ to counteract the D’ump push in those states. For D’ump, no FL, no re-election.

  32. pogo, they better do more than concentrate on cuban latinos since that isn’t the biggest hispanic bloc. they need to pay careful attention to the different groups in FL so as not to offend.

  33. We’ll go to city hall to vote on Friday. It’s just a matter of living that long. Piece o’ cake.

Then, it’ll be a matter of getting to election night. Piece o’ cake.

Then it’ll be a matter of getting to see the apres inauguration events. I want to see Biden & Congress make FDR’s first 100 days look like lazy. I hope it’s a piece o’ cake.

  35. gonna be hard for D’ump to keep from tweeting about that podcast with michael & rosie. hope it distracts him from the latest vile stuff he’s tweeting or sharing in tweets about joe.

Speaking on his new podcast Monday, Cohen said he received a “beautiful” 6-page note from O’Donnell — a longtime adversary of Trump — last December during his stay at the Federal Correctional Institution near Otisville in upstate New York.
“I’m not ashamed to admit that I sobbed when I read it, and so did others that were reading it with me,” said Cohen during the first episode of his “Mea Culpa” podcast.
“Here was a woman who I had helped attack and vilify on behalf of Donald J. Trump, and she reached out to me full of kindness and empathy,” Cohen, 54, continued.
In late 2018, Cohen was sentenced to three years behind bars after pleading guilty to campaign and financial offenses. He is currently serving the remainder of his sentence at his home in New York.
O’Donnell was the first guest on his new podcast. The former co-host of “The View” said she was always interested in learning more about Cohen when he worked for Trump because the attorney seemed familiar to her.
“You sound like everybody I went to high school with,” O’Donnell said on the podcast. “You look like all the people I grew up with on Long Island.”
    […]
He said on his podcast that he thought his “life was over” when he went to prison, and that the support he received from O’Donnell made a big impact on him.
“That letter was a turning point for me,” Cohen said during the 64-minute episode. “In Rosie, I saw a better way forward. A way to change, and a way to grow as a human being.”
O’Donnell, 58, also visited Cohen while he was in prison.

  36. patd, true enough, but the Cuban Latino vote is a particularly weak spot for Dems so it warrants special attention to peal some of those voters away.  I’d think his crack team has ads set for other Latino voters who  are not Cuban, but really, Joe needs to get his ass to FL and meet with Latino leaders and maybe do some of his community round tables or whatever he’s calling them.

  38. pogo, joe might have a chance with the younger cubans but the old ones, at least those that had ties to batista, nada.  i think they see their old el presidente in D’ump.  for example compare similarity to him to this excerpt from PBS  “american experience”

Batista’s return to power did not herald a return to progressivism. He became obsessed with gaining the acceptance of Cuba’s upper classes, who had denied him membership into their exclusive social clubs. Increasingly, his energies were devoted to amassing an even greater fortune. Batista opened Havana to large scale gambling, announcing that his government would match, dollar for dollar, any hotel investment over $1 million, which would include a casino license. American mobster Meyer Lansky placed himself at the center of Cuba’s gambling operation. At the same time, Batista sponsored massive construction projects — the Havana-Varadero highway, the Rancho Boyeros airport, train lines, an underwater tunnel.

  39. The People v. Donald J. Trump

The criminal case against him is already in the works — and it could go to trial sooner than you think.

    […]
But federal charges aren’t the likeliest way that The People v. Donald J. Trump will play out. State laws aren’t subject to presidential pardons, and they cover a host of crimes beyond those committed in the White House. When it comes to charging a former president, state attorneys general and county prosecutors can go places a U.S. Attorney can’t.
[… cy vance is discussed in a few paragraphs here as the most likely…]
There are two main charges that Vance is likely to pursue. The first is falsifying business records (N.Y. Penal Law § 175.10). During Cohen’s trial, federal prosecutors filed a sentencing memorandum that explained how the Trump Organization had mischaracterized hush-money payments as “legal expenses” in its bookkeeping. Under New York law, falsifying records by itself is only a misdemeanor, but if it results in the commission of another crime, it becomes a felony. And false business records frequently lead to another offense: tax fraud (N.Y. Tax Law § 1806).
If Trump cooked his books, observes Sheil, that false information would essentially “flow into the tax returns.” The first crime begets the second, making both the bookkeeper and the tax accountant liable. “Since you have several folks involved,” Sheil says, “you could either bring a conspiracy charge, maximum sentence five years, or you could charge each individual with aiding and abetting the preparation of a false tax return, with a max sentence of three years.”
To build a fraud case against Trump, Vance subpoenaed his financial records. But those records alone won’t be enough: To secure a conviction, Vance will need to convince a jury not only that Trump cheated on his taxes but that he intended to do so. “If you just have the documents, the defense will say that defendant didn’t have criminal intent,” Jaroslaw explains. “I call it the ‘I’m an idiot’ defense: ‘I made a mistake. I didn’t mean to do anything.’ ” Unfortunately for Trump, both Cohen and his longtime accountant, Allen Weisselberg, have already signaled their willingness to cooperate with prosecutors. “What’s great about having an accountant in the witness stand is that they can tell you about the conversation they had with the client,” Jaroslaw says.
    […]
Trump’s conviction would seal the greatest downfall in American politics since Richard Nixon. Unlike his associates who were sentenced to prison on federal charges, Trump would not be eligible for a presidential pardon or commutation, even from himself. And while his lawyers would file every appeal they can think of, none of it would spare Trump the indignity of imprisonment. Unlike the federal court system, which often allows prisoners to remain free during the appeals process, state courts tend to waste no time in carrying out punishment. After someone is sentenced in New York City, their next stop is Rikers Island. Once there, as Trump awaited transfer to a state prison, the man who’d treated the presidency like a piggy bank would receive yet another handout at the public expense: a toothbrush and toothpaste, bedding, a towel, and a green plastic cup.

  40. He’d prolly have to be kept in solitary. Unless of course, his lawyers don’t protect him from serving time with dope dealers, looters, shooters, cannibals and upper bunk-wetters.

  41. And onthe CV-19 front:

In the past week in the U.S….

New daily reported cases fell 2.8%
New daily reported deaths rose 3.3%
    Covid-related hospitalizations fell 8.3%

Among reported tests, the positivity rate was 5.6%.
The number of tests reported fell 13% from the previous week.

The 7 day rolling average for deaths seems to be hovering around 750 per day. The positivity rate remains above 5% although testing declined by 13%and in the face f a 13% reduction in testing new cases reported fell only 2.8%.  At that rate COVID does in 49 days what it takes the regular old flu the entire 4-5 month flu season* to do, and it doesn’t stop after 4 months.  Dipshit thinks that’s rounding the last, beautiful corner. What the hell universe does he live in? I’m sorry, but fuck him, put him under the jail.

*Based upon the 37,222 death per year average of the past 9 flu seasons beginning with 2010-2011 as reported by CDC.

  42. Here’s a link to the UPMC antibody discovery that may actually be a game changer.  From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh have taken a “major step” toward a potential drug treatment for COVID-19.
Pitt School of Medicine researchers discovered the smallest biological molecule to date that “completely and specifically” neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to a report published Monday in the journal Cell.
The scientists reported that a tiny antibody component — 10 times smaller than a full-sized antibody — can be used to create a therapeutic and preventative drug called Ab8 and found it to be “highly effective” in preventing the SARS-CoV-2 in mice and hamsters.
The molecule’s tiny size could be advantageous for its movement through the body’s tissues to neutralize the virus and for administering the drug — for example, through inhalation, according to the university.
“Ab8 not only has potential as therapy for COVID-19, but it also could be used to keep people from getting SARS-CoV-2 infections,” co-author Dr. John Mellors, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UPMC and Pitt, said in a Monday press release. “Antibodies of larger size have worked against other infectious diseases and have been well tolerated, giving us hope that it could be an effective treatment for patients with COVID-19 and for protection of those who have never had the infection and are not immune.”

September 15, 2020 – Marking the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Lincoln Project is today announcing their new Hispanic Steering Committee. The committee includes key current and former Republican leaders who will lead voter registration, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising activities directed towards engaging the Hispanic community.

“As the country’s second largest racial and ethnic group, consisting of nearly 60 million people, the importance of Hispanic voters in this election cannot be understated,” said Mike Madrid, co-founder of The Lincoln Project. “The Hispanic community has grown tired of the President’s mistreatment, rhetoric and lies, particularly when it comes to Latinos. We expect Hispanic communities in Florida, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and beyond will make their voices heard this year and be a deciding factor in making Trump a one-term President and replacing him with leadership that values equity, equality, and the beautiful diversity of this country.”

    [lists the members]

“Latinos, like the rest of our great nation, are suffering under Donald Trump”, said former US Treasurer, Rosario Marin. “We need a President, who truly understands our plight, our hopes and our fears, and won’t use them to further divide our country and sow chaos in our midst, but will help heal our nation and return decency and morality to the office of the President.”

The Lincoln Project Hispanic Steering Committee will harness their combined decades of experience and expertise to lead outreach and mobilization of Hispanic communities in key battleground states.
