What If He Resigns?

Of the longtime associates or observers of Donald Trump, Barbara Res is one of my favorites. Unfortunately for her she seems to fully understand his psychotic nature. She was his construction manager for the Trump Tower and other projects. Yesterday on CNN she flatly said:

“I don’t think he wants to be impeached and that’s what I think this panic is about. My gut tells me he will leave office, he will resign. Or make some kind of a deal even, depending what comes out.”

Barbara Res, former VP Trump Organization

So many like Res who’ve known Trump for decades say he suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder. Controlling his fate by resigning and playing the martyr, rather than cede control to Congress, would be consistent with this disorder.

  1. newsweek in January this year:

Donald Trump Will Resign the Presidency in 2019 in Exchange for Immunity for Him and His Family, Former Bush Adviser Says

  2. wapo:  Power up: Trump calls for Pelosi’s impeachment as Week Three of the House inquiry begins

WELCOME TO WEEK III:  President Trump went there in a late-night tweet by accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of treason and calling for her impeachment.
It was completely unclear what Trump meant:

    [… 3 irrational 10:27 pm tweets here…]

Fact check: There are some basic factual problems with those tweets — first off, members of Congress can’t be impeached. And while Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has said his committee counseled the whistleblower about how to file a complaint, there is no evidence the speaker was involved. That complaint has sparked an impeachment inquiry into Trump’s calls for Ukraine to investigate his political rivals.

  3. a peaceful and early (aka immediate) end to his presidency by voluntary retirement is worth giving him a get-out-of-jail-free card plus letting him retain golden thrones in trash tower,  bad-minster golf course and mal an ego.  nothing else though.  all other assets must go to US treasury to reimburse country for the 3 years of hell and damage he’s put it through .

    a bargain IMHO

  4. Resign is what he has consistently done when he has destroyed something.  Quit and blame someone else.  The question of resigning is not too important, it is the “deal” worked out to get rid of the grifter.  If it includes letting the con man keep all the money he illegally garnered from those buying favors then it is not worth it.  Impeach him and the Bobble Head.

  5. They know how to whistle, don’t they?  They just put their lips together and blow.

  6. I read both David Cay Johnston’s and Tim O’Brien’s books about trump before he was elected (selected) prez.  Both men wrote that when it becomes obvious to trump that he will lose (in a court case) he throws in the towel and offers a settlement.  He thinks by offering a settlement it means he’s not a quitter.  I don’t care what he thinks or how he goes…   just be gone!

  7. This should trigger the tweet storm.  As reported by Wapo (I loves me my David Farenthold reporting):

A federal judge on Monday dismissed President Trump’s lawsuit seeking to block the Manhattan District Attorney from obtaining the president’s tax returns as part of an investigation into hush-money payments during the 2016 campaign.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero rejected Trump’s argument that the presidency makes him immune to any investigation by any prosecutor.

In his 75-page ruling, Marrero called such a claim “extraodinary” and wrote that “This Court cannot endorse such a categorical and limitless assertion of presidential immunity from judicial process.”

The ruling allows District Attorney Cyrus Vance (D) to enforce a subpoena he sent to Trump’s longtime accountants, Mazars USA. Trump had filed an unorthodox lawsuit seeking to stop that subpoena, saying that he would suffer “irreparable harm” if prosecutors obtained his tax returns. The Justice Department also took Trump’s side in the case.

The 2nd Circuit is made up of 7 Democratic appointees and 5 Repug appointees – 3 of which were SFB’s.

The ruling dismisses SFB’s suit to bar enforcement of a grand jury subpoena served by the New York County DA on the Trump Organization, LLC on August 1, 2019. The subpoena at issue wasa issued by Cyrus Vance, Jr, the DA of New York County. It is not a subpoena in Federal Court, and does not seek to have the documents turned over to the SDNY.

  8. Had a great time yesterday – Went up to the ‘burgh and saw the Pittsburgh Symphony in its Pops configuration, conducted by the Cincinatti Pops conductor – John Morris Russell – perform a tribute to the Queen of Soul.  Had 3 guest singers – all from Broadway productions, and one – Tamika Lawrence – who could belt out the Aretha classics and do them a great deal of justice.

  9. The Kurds have been allied with us for decades. For us to abandon them to the likes of Erdogan is more than shameful. It makes me want to burn all my military memorabilia. I did not pledge my life to such a country.

  10. Renee, the last paragraph of that piece sticks out.

“We are 7000 miles away and will crush ISIS again if they come anywhere near us!”

We were 7000 miles away on 9/11/01.  We’ve been 7000 miles away since then.  Demonstrates the cluelessness of the feckless SFB.

  11. Our current political hell brought to you by Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh- this all started with them in the 90s.  Thanks, fellas!

  12. In an update, RCP average based upon latest polls has Joe and Lizzie effectively ties – within .3 now.  Bernie! is 12 points behind.  Biden continues to do better than anyone else head to head against SFB – by 7 points in the IBD poll released today as against Lizzie’s 2 point advantage.

  13. It is Putin, the KGB agent, birthday.  Ukraine is already under attack, but tens of thousands of Kurds can be slaughtered in the place of it.

  14. The Turks and the United States are partnering in the genocide of every Man, Woman and Kurdish Child.

  15. bink & craig,  I blame scotus giving corporations sayso (freedom of speech) in campaigns and otherwise trashing election laws.

from that day forward, congress critters had to spend 99% of their time scrounging for money in their personal interest rather than legislating for common good.  they took vacations with that other 1% of time.

  16. re trump dump on kurds:

    Hillary tweet:

Let us be clear: The president has sided with authoritarian leaders of Turkey and Russia over our loyal allies and America’s own interests. His decision is a sickening betrayal both of the Kurds and his oath of office.

    Lindsey this a.m. with fox&friends:

“The biggest lie being told by the administration [is] that ISIS is defeated,” he declared. “This impulsive decision by the president has undone all the gains we’ve made, thrown the region into further chaos. Iran is licking their chops. And if I’m an ISIS fighter, I’ve got a second lease on life. So to those who think ISIS has been defeated you will soon see.”
“I hope I’m making myself clear how shortsighted and irresponsible this decision is, in my view,”

    Lindsey also tweeted later:

I feel very bad for the Americans and allies who have sacrificed to destroy the ISIS Caliphate because this decision virtually reassures the reemergence of ISIS.  So sad.  So dangerous.
President Trump may be tired of fighting radical Islam.  They are NOT tired of fighting us.

    nikki haley tweeted:
We must always have the backs of our allies, if we expect them to have our back. The Kurds were instrumental in our successful fight against ISIS in Syria. Leaving them to die is a big mistake. #TurkeyIsNotOurFriend

  17. SCOTUS erred badly in finding that anonymous speech is protected by the First Amendment;
    It erred badly in finding that the use of money is speech;
It erred badly in finding that corporations could meddle in political campaigns.
They are moving toward throwing out all anti-trust and anti-monopoly legislation.

  18. pogo,  NYTimes reports in an update what looks like more stalling on that tax records turnover:

On Monday, a lawyer for Mr. Trump asked the appeals court to block the subpoena until it hears the whole case, plus an additional week to give the losing side time to ask the United States Supreme Court to hear the arguments.

  19. In this society of money-grubbing dullards, there is plenty of blame to go around.

    …the government we deserve.

  20. After abandoning the Kurds to ba’athist/russian/erdogan genocide, I expect trump to ‘give’ putin Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and East Germany.
I mean, what the hell ?

  21. We are actually lucky Trump is so stupid and inept- anyone more capable with so much power would have us all completely subjugated, by now.  An inevitability, regardless.

  22. Today America’s embattled weakman, damnold j. trump, surrendered the military high ground in the Middle East to the tsar. At the same time, he ceded the moral high ground to muhammad bin salman, the saudi trunk murderer.

  23. Don’t blame corporations or SCOTUS, blame your moronic compatriots.  They vote for villains because they’re scared to die (praise Jesus) and too lazy to read.

  24. The top-grossing movie this past weekend, in this nation, was one about a fictional, murderous psychopath that dresses up in a clown-suit.  That’s with what our collective psyche is concerned, and these are the people with which we have to reason and persuade?  Futile.

  25. Ok, Trump has gone full-crazy, now, and because the Senators from red-states are so scared of their moronic constituents, he’ll stay there.  We have a literal madman in control of the world’s largest arsenal- that can’t work out well.

  26. Rip Taylor:  Say”wings” 3 times real fast.
    Straight man:  Wings, wings, wings!
    Rip Taylor:  Hewwo?
    RIP Rip.

  27. I’m sorry for the short list, Mr Flatus. I should have included Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Somalia, Mongolia, the Korean Peninsula, India, Bangladesh and Viet Nam, too.

  28. trump can’t resign on a swap of immunity for himself, his family and his businesses. bill barr wouldn’t allow it, ‘cuz his neck is on the block, too. pence might not pardon barr, ‘cuz barr may be the perfect human sacrifice for pence to save his own neck. pence, on the other claw, might be the perfect human sacrifice for trump to make.
Maybe we’ll see a republican circular grenade practice. Practice would perfect them.

  29. Maybe the Syrian Kurds wouldn’t investigate Biden on behalf of Trump2020.

    Maybe Erdogan would.

  30. XR

Only because the media is giving her the Hillary treatment.  They don’t want her to be the candidate, so any coverage is negative no matter how many good stories are out there on Facebook and Twitter or in small local but almost nothing on national.

  31. Craig, just read your request for a post. I can’t go beyond where I’ve gone without…
