Trump Impeached Himself

We’re done. Vote now. Watch Senate Republicans squirm.

the guardian:

US diplomats told Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, that a prestigious White House visit to meet Donald Trump was dependent on him making a public statement vowing to investigate Hunter Biden’s company, and a Ukrainian role in the 2016 elections, according to texts released on Thursday night.
The texts, released by three congressional committees holding impeachment hearings, show that the diplomats made clear that any improvement in Kyiv’s relations with Washington would be dependent on Zelenskiy’s cooperation in Trump’s quest to find damaging material about son of his leading political opponent, and on the Democrats in general.
In August, Zelenskiy’s government became aware, through a US press report, that military aid for its struggle with Russia, had been withheld by Trump, in an apparent effort to increase the pressure on the Ukrainian government.
The texts are exchanges from July to early September between three US diplomats – Gordon Sondland, the ambassador to the European Union, Kurt Volker, the then special envoy on Ukraine, and Bill Taylor, the acting ambassador to Kyiv. Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani and a Zelenskiy aide, Andrey Yermak, also make brief appearances in the correspondence.
The conversations leave no doubt that the state department was deeply involved in the effort to use the office of the presidency to pressure a foreign government to investigate Trump’s political enemies. At one point the diplomats even draft a statement for Zelenskiy to read out.

another day, another scandal reported by wapo:

An Internal Revenue Service official has filed a whistleblower complaint reporting that he was told that at least one Treasury Department political appointee attempted to improperly interfere with the annual audit of the president’s or vice president’s tax returns, according to multiple people familiar with the document.
Trump administration officials dismissed the whistleblower’s complaint as flimsy because it is based on conversations with other government officials. But congressional Democrats were alarmed by the complaint, now circulating on Capitol Hill, and flagged it in a federal court filing. They are also discussing whether to make it public.

That second post about the treasury official interfering with the annual audits on the tax returns of SFB and our useless idiot VP comes as no surprise.

What a difference a day makes. From 93 yesterday to a high of 70 today, and even cooler with some much needed showers Sunday and Monday. Whew!  It’s been a long hot summer. And it’s still at 100 in Montgomery today. Glad I’m not in Montgomery – and it’s hot, too!

Reality versus hopes and dreams is where we are now in the impeachment of SFB.  Reality is he is a mob boss with a bunch of cult followers who are willing to do a Johnstown to prove it.  Reality is the Dems are playing in a sandbox with a bully throwing dog crap at them and they are standing with hands on hips yelling “don’t do that again”.   Hopes and dreams are the Dems thinking they are the ones in charge.  Until the Dems toss a few of the no shows to subpoenas in prison, start impeachment against Bobble Head, Barr, Pompeo and a herd of other mob figures, and actually do something the criminal acts will continue.

Now the Trumps are circulating a video of a rather obviously ill woman at an AOC meeting suggesting eating children to solve overpopulation.

AOC actually handled it well, but I couldn’t help thinking about Jonathan Swift’s Modest Proposal

the air war begins.  the digital (internet, facebook, etc) skirmishes though are where the real battles are.

wapo:

CNN said Thursday that it will not run two Trump campaign ads because they disparage the network’s journalists and make “demonstrably false” claims while discussing impeachment and pushing unsubstantiated allegations of corruption against former vice president Joe Biden.
The network’s decisions come as the Trump administration escalates its attacks on congressional Democrats’ impeachment efforts and continues to lash out at media organizations it tries to discredit as “fake news.” CNN’s move brought renewed ire from Trump’s reelection campaign, as Communications Director Tim Murtaugh called the news network a “Democrat public relations firm” that “spends all day protecting Joe Biden.”
The first rejected ad, posted last week to YouTube, suggests the president is being unfairly scrutinized for pressing Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son Hunter. The ad accuses Trump’s potential 2020 opponent of corruption, continuing a favorite talking point of the president and his supporters amid an impeachment inquiry and concerns Trump used his office to create trouble for a political rival.

[…]

Another 30-second video titled “Coup” and released Wednesday has been rejected as well, CNN said Thursday.
That ad decries Democrats’ impeachment efforts as an attempt to “undo the election regardless of facts” and attack Trump “by any means necessary.” It also accuses Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of fabricating evidence during a discussion of a whistleblower complaint against Trump, a claim also broadcast from the president’s Twitter account. (Schiff has said his paraphrase of Trump’s controversial call with Ukraine’s president “was meant to be at least part in parody.”)
The impeachment push is “nothing short of a coup and it must be stopped,” the Trump ad declares.
CNN cited similar concerns about false statements in declining the newer commercial, saying the spot makes claims about the whistleblower complaint against the president that the intelligence community inspector general has debunked.
“In addition, it is inaccurate to use the word ‘coup’ to describe a constitutionally prescribed legal process,” the company stated, echoing critics who slammed Trump’s comparison of impeachment to an opposition group’s violent, illegal overthrow of a government.

[…]

Networks have rejected presidential campaign commercials before. Last year, channels including Fox News — the president’s favored news network — nixed an ad that CNN and others called racist for its depiction of immigrants as “dangerous illegal criminals.”

NYTimes:

KIEV, Ukraine — Ukraine’s top prosecutor said on Friday that he would review several important cases previously handled by his predecessors, including a criminal case involving a natural gas company that employed a son of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

[…]

The prosecutor general, Ruslan Ryaboshapka, said he intended to review 15 cases in all, and mentioned several high-profile investigations of wealthy Ukrainians, including the owner of the natural gas company, Burisma Holdings, where Mr. Biden’s son Hunter served on the board until earlier this year.

Trickle-down failure: The cult-like Republican belief in tax cuts isn’t supported by results. It’s leading to an apocalypse of debt and inequality.

KC, don’t tease us like that.

Re: that crazy AOC “supporter”, not so fast. That was a RW stunt.

For most of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) Thursday town hall, the woman in a black jacket sat quietly in the third row. Then, as the event in Corona, N.Y., neared its end, the woman suddenly stood up and began yelling about climate change.

“But we’re not going to be here much long because of the climate crisis,” the woman blurted. “We got to start eating babies,” she abruptly declared, taking off her jacket to display a T-shirt that read: “Save the planet. Eat the children.”

The woman’s bizarre speech swiftly became the center of a heated Twitter fight Thursday night that pitted Ocasio-Cortez against President Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and other conservatives, who suggested the woman was an example of “climate change hysteria.” In response, Ocasio-Cortez chastised critics for trying to “mock or make a spectacle” of a woman who “may have been suffering from a mental condition.”

It now seems likely that the scene was carefully planned.

The woman was apparently part of an attempt by a right-wing fringe political group to embarrass the Democratic congresswoman. Late Thursday, a Twitter account belonging to the LaRouche PAC — which was founded by conspiracy theorist Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr. — took credit for the stunt. A historian who has documented the organization said the woman’s outburst was “a fairly well-established tactic for them.”

“They’ve been doing this since the ’70s,” Matthew Sweet, whose book “Operation Chaos” delved into the group’s complex history, told The Washington Post. “The tactic is you go to a political meeting and you create a disturbance that disrupts the meeting, and more importantly, that creates a kind of chaos.”

The LaRouche PAC did not respond to a request for comment early Friday.

If just impeached but no convicted, he could run for another term.  If convicted and thrown out of office, I doubt a run for the Presidency but that might depend on if there were a follow up of criminal charges of some kind if not pardoned by the incoming POTUS.

Craig…. if you’re suggesting that the House vote on impeachment now…  I disagree.  IMO, it’s too soon.  Let this play out with more public hearings.  That’ll give more voters a chance to tell pollsters they are for impeachment and then watch the Republicans really start to squirm.

and oh yeah…. give us all a chance to have more popcorn…

wonder if flake and romney are a hint how the Mormon voters feel about the twit now.

Senator Mitt Romney (R., Utah) released a statement Friday calling President Trump’s Thursday claim that China should look into former Vice President Joe Biden “brazen and unprecedented” and “wrong and appalling.”
“When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated,” the statement reads.

the hill:

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said he confronted President Trump over aid to Ukraine in August and that the president denied tying that assistance to assurances from Kiev that it would investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

Johnson told The Wall Street Journal that he learned of a potential “quid pro quo” from U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. Johnson said that Sondland told him assistance for Ukraine was connected to Trump’s desire to have the country carry out investigations relating to the 2016 elections.

The senator said he spoke with Trump on Aug. 31 and that on the call, Trump denied that he told officials to connect military aid to the promise of investigations by Ukraine.
“He said… ‘No way. I would never do that. Who told you that?” Johnson told the Journal.

[…]

Johnson is supportive of aid to Ukraine and was part of a bipartisan group of senators who wrote to the administration last month asking that the assistance be released

susan rice this morning on CBS:

[…]

Rice, whose new book “Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For” is out next week, said she was stunned when President Trump publicly called on China to investigate Hunter Biden on Thursday despite no evidence of wrongdoing. The president tweeted that he has the “absolute right” to ask other countries to investigate corruption.
“He gets on television before the world and asks China to give him dirt,” Rice said.  “Truthfully? I couldn’t believe it. I mean, every day we hear something new that causes you to say, ‘did that really happen?’ This for me was qualitatively different because the president of the United States was welcoming and inviting our principal foreign adversary to intervene in our election.”

[…]

“Joe Biden was doing what he was asked to do by the president of the United States consistent with serving our policy interests,” Rice told “CBS This Morning” co-host Tony Dokoupil. “President Trump on the one hand is asking Ukraine for a favor that benefits him personally and politically … Trump tried to hide it through sequestering – the reality we face, Tony, and what worries me so much, it gets back to your original point, Gayle, is for the first time that I can remember our democracy is under assault. Our country is in effect under attack and that attack is coming now from within. It’s coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. And for all of the security threats I saw as national security adviser, all the challenges we faced, I never thought I’d see that.”
“He’s in effect saying to our farmers and our manufacturers and to all of us who have been suffering as a consequence of his trade war that all could be well and perhaps be resolved on terms more favorable to China if he gets dirt. That was the clear implication. And one other thing if I might, if you’re China and you’re listening to President Trump on the South Lawn make that statement, what are you thinking?” Rice said. “You’re thinking this man is not predictable, he’s not stable, he’s not playing with a full deck. And if they were being smart and never discount the Chinese ability to be smart, they’d think maybe this is an opportunity to steal second base. Whether that’s in trade, whether that’s in the South China Sea, whether that’s in cyberspace. We are projecting insecurity, instability and chaos to the rest of the world.”

Regarding the continuing stay of Bernie, my guess is the docs found a bit more wrong than originally diagnosed.  Sure a couple of stents go in, it is the rest of the story that is not nice.  Why keep the docs silent?  Easy, there is more wrong.  First lesson in politics is to skip the cover story, get everything out all at once.  The more the better.  Overwhelm the listeners.  If it is out, then the next day question is referred to all the info of the first day. The same with day fourteen questions.  A doc stating “we discovered an extra left ventricle sitting on his spleen and we are taking care of it during the next month” goes a long way to stopping rumours.
