The U.S. Army has moved in recent weeks to discharge dozens of immigrant recruits and reservists who enlisted through a program that promised them a path to citizenship.
NPR: White House launches effort to take citizenship from those accused of lying to get it.
More Kids In Custody Since Trump Ordered It Stopped
HHS Secretary Alex Azar says that the U.S. government has nearly 3,000 separated migrant children in custody. Last week Azar told a Senate panel there were 2,047 migrant children in custody. MSNBC

“When people, with or without children, enter our Country, they must be told to leave without our Country being forced to endure a long and costly trial. Tell the people “OUT,” and they must leave, just as they would if they were standing on your front lawn.

better not discharge too many of those immigrant recruits & reservists or we won’t have an army
wfmy:
One out of three young adults is overweight or obese in the United States. It’s a health epidemic now on the radar of the U.S. Military.
“Since the military tends to recruit from that population, the 17- to 24-year-olds, it’s starting to impact our recruitment pool,” said Major Kayla Ramotar, Command Dietician at the Center for Initial Military Training.
“The percent of overweight soldiers is about 8 to 10% typically and that’s a problem for the military.” Retired Lt. General Thomas Spoehr insists while America’s obesity problem is not as drastic among U.S. troops, it is still weighing them down.
Spoehr said it’s a national security problem. “This is part of a trend that if it continues we will be unable to recruit the number of people we need for our military.”
The Army recently deployed a new exam called the Occupational Physical Assessment test or OPAT. It’s administered before a recruit ships out to basic training and measures their physical fitness.
“We had a significant increase in multiple skeletal injuries and folks that weren’t able to actually execute some of the physical demands of certain types of professions,” said Ramotar.
The OPAT is in addition to the Army’s minimum physical standards.
“We require the American military to be fit,” said Ramotar. “It’s one of the qualities that we value so we could talk about lowering the standards but we wouldn’t like the military that would emerge from lower standards.”
But they acknowledge more needs to be done to combat the problem.
“This is not just a military problem,” said Spoehr. “This is a reflection of American society as a whole so it’s something we’re going to have to deal with.”
The immigrant abuse continues The military whitewash along with trump’s citizenship bureau revoking citizenship status, has time traveling repugs heading back in time to rewrite history
Citizenship revoked for lying? mel is living a lie while her other half is lies, cheats and steals. The first couple, the BIG lie.
It is times like these that the women of the trumpence junta should start defending immigrants…haley comes to mind. She has abandoned her heritage. Maybe she should take a dna test, trump. Just like Elizabeth Warren.
Sikhs in the military. I wonder if trump will reverse this trend to support diversity in military order.
as to the twit’s “Tell the people “OUT,” and they must leave, just as they would if they were standing on your front lawn.”
in other words, slam the door, ignore and do not call 911 if your neighbor comes running to you for help from an abuser or robber or fire.
when people are fleeing danger, they don’t think first about what door or window they beat on for help or whose lawn they step on. they are fleeing for their lives. the requirement of only those coming to official ports of entry are legitimate asylum seekers forget this.
trump supporters love when trump trashes fellow citizens…even native Americans should worry about citizenship. We will all be dna-tested eventually to see if we truly belong in the US of AA. trump rode the wave of the birther movement and his supporters love immigrant abuse. Makes them feel more American.
Well, as BW pointed out, the trade war with China begins today. What will SFB do next? It will be stupid, believe me.

wapo:
BEIJING — Three months of rhetoric just became reality.
The United States imposed the first duties on $34 billion in Chinese goods early Friday and China immediately retaliated, launching a commercial battle that analysts fear could shake markets and cramp global business.
As Beijing fired back with tariffs of its own, it accused the U.S. of violating WTO rules and setting off “the largest trade war in economic history to date.”
“In order to defend the core interests of the country and the interests of the people, we are forced to retaliate,” the Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a statement.
The Asian nation slapped levies on an equal amount of American goods, including heartland staples like soybeans, corn, pork and poultry — a move President Trump said would compel him to hit China with another round of duties on up to $500 billion in products.
[….]
The Chinese side sees Trump’s threats as an attempt to hold back its economic growth — and has vowed to match them move for move.
“Whether it’s through trade war or other means, the end goal is to make China subservient to the United States,” said He Weiwen, vice president of the Center for China and Globalization, in Beijing. “That’s impossible. China won’t accept that,” he said, adding “what happens next depends on the United States. China will be prepared to follow suit.”
Meanwhile, at both American and Chinese ports, cargo ships are docking to a new world of financial consequences.
The Internet watched one vessel’s journey to the port of Dalian in Liaoning province. Peak Pegasus, which carried soybeans, sped to reach its destination Friday morning before China applied tariffs that would hike the cost of its load by 25 percent.
It’s unclear if the ship beat the clock.
Patd…watchful trump supporters are already calling in reports on fellow citizens. State representative, Bynum, talks with sheriff after call claiming she was ‘casing the neighborhood.’ Reporting all humans of color that are in my neighborhood, on my front lawn! Racist vigilantes growing under trump as trump takes a page out of McCarthyism.

moransmorons hold the key to peace? The iran deal was so superior to anything this admin can do.I dunno, outdated technology aside (Best Buy announced it will no longer carry CDs) this may be the first smart diplomatic move the SFB administration has made – at least it’s the first intentional joke I’ve seen come out of the government so far. That’s a good sign, right? Hopefully little rocket man will take the joke in the spirit it’s offered. I suspect he’ll have a better reaction to it than SFB will have to the baby balloon he will meet in Britain.

bourbon pond. only in ky.
courier-journal:
This wasn’t supposed to happen — thousands more bourbon barrels tumbling to the ground at a Bardstown distillery while most Kentuckians celebrated the July 4 holiday, some with bourbon libations.
But it did. Despite attempts to shore up Barton 1792 Distillery’s seven-story warehouse after half of its wooden-structure fell June 22 in Bardstown, Kentucky, the rest of the rackhouse collapsed Wednesday.
The alert to Nelson County Dispatch came at 2:20 p.m.
The initial collapse of Warehouse 30 sent about half of the 18,000 or so barrels crashing to the ground, many shattering upon impact. The remaining barrels and what was left of the warehouse structure fell Wednesday.
No one was injured in either incident. It’s too early to quantify the damage — the value of bourbon or the potential environmental impact.
After the first collapse, Barton’s distillery team was prepared with equipment on site to address further problems from the structure that remained standing, Amy Preske, a spokeswoman for Barton’s parent company Sazerac, said in a statement Wednesday.
“As a result of the Barton 1792 Distillery team’s preparation and quick action, no runoff from today’s collapse entered any waterways,” Preske said in the statement.
The remaining portion of the warehouse was unable to be secured after the initial collapse due to worker safety concerns, Preske said. It is unknown at this time how many barrels can be salvaged.

first collapse = fish marinade
(CNN)The collapse of a warehouse wall at a distillery in Kentucky didn’t just send 9,000 bourbon barrels crashing to the ground. The accident last Friday also killed hundreds of fish when bourbon leaked into nearby waterways, state officials said.
Nearly 1,000 fish were found dead in Withrow Creek and the Beach Fork River near the Barton 1792 distillery in Bardstown, according to officials with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet.
State environmental officials said they will fine Sazerac Inc., parent company of the distillery, up to $25,000 per day after alcohol was discovered to be contaminating the bodies of water.
While the situation in the cave is certainly dire, just to clarify, the diver did not die because of the dropping oxygen levels. He died because he ran out of air in his diving equipment. But the dropping oxygen levels are definite game changer. There’s no way they’re going to be able to keep those kids in there for an extended period of time with oxygen levels of 15%.
I am waiting for the Russian senators to hold press conferences to explain why they would rather spend July 4th in Moscow than in the good old USA. They have some serious issues their voters might not like to hear about. The statements made so far sound more like providing aid and comfort than strong and powerful.

fortune:
Longtime Donald Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen has brought in an outspoken critic of the president — a former special counsel for Bill Clinton — to help respond to a federal probe of his businesses and finances.
Lawyer and crisis manager Lanny Davis confirmed Thursday that he’s representing Cohen. Davis is the author of The Unmaking of the President 2016, in which he questions the legitimacy of Trump’s election and raises the possibility of removing Trump from office for “mental impairment.”
“Like most of America, I have been following the matter regarding Michael Cohen with great interest,” Davis said in a statement. “As an attorney, I have talked to Michael many times in the last two weeks. Then I read his words published on July 2, and I recognized his sincerity. Michael Cohen deserves to tell his side of the story — subject, of course, to the advice of counsel.”
[…]
In a March 2 Bloomberg Television interview, Davis criticized Trump’s trade policy and his rapid changes in position on issues such as gun control and immigration.
“Consistency and stability, as opposed to chaos and flip-flopping every moment, every hour every day, is the problem with the Donald Trump presidency,” Davis said. “What most people, I think, in America want is a mentally, politically stable presidency, and we’re not getting that from Donald Trump.”
Davis stopped short of calling for Trump to be impeached in that interview, saying the standard for impeachment must be very high, such as the president endangering the Constitution or posing a risk to national security.
“Cohen could have lots of different reasons for hiring Davis,” said David Sklansky, a law professor at Stanford University. “But Davis is a crisis manager, not a trial lawyer. You probably don’t hire him if your main focus at the moment is preparing for a knock-down-drag-out battle in court.”
patd, there is no doubt that Cohen hired Lanny Davis to try and work things out with Mueller. It’s an aggressive move considering Davis’ prior statements about Trump. Like this:
You are correct, Pogo, I do not understand dictator humor or jokes. Even rodman took a book to kim, trump’s art of the deal. A CD? Potus playlist? trump even mentioned at his rally that he gets bigger crowds than Elton. It might have been better if they actually kidnapped Elton and took him to N.korea to perform for kim. Now that would have been impressive and a joke on Elton.

Well, the decoy news and response continue to work in trump’s favor, for now. His most crookedness’ days or sols are numbered. Mr. Mueller is coming with lots of indictments.
BW, speaking of sols, perhaps SFB should discuss a trip to Mars with Elon. I’d bet he’d be happy to try and arrange it – might even comp him an upgrade to first class if it would seal the deal.
Well, I see the jobs report for June is a good one. And I say this without a hint of sarcasm – I hope that trend continues even if it means SFB gets to crow about it in his re-election campaign. I’m really not about cutting off my nose to spite my face.
Pogo, don’t hold back the sarcasm — employment numbers all about growth in low-wage jobs, not really something to celebrate.
The good employment numbers may hold for another report possibly two, but will begin the slide to crummy to bad to horrible as the idiot’s trade war really takes hold.
BW, why do you have this fixation about former Gov Haley? She has exhibited pride at every opportunity about her Asian Indian heritage, embraces her immigrant family, and has traveled to India with them. She is a model first generation American; whether we agree with her politics or not, she’s on the line.
Craig, a few days ago the Journal reported that a trend is developing with entry level workers leaving their jobs for more rewarding employment with other employers. That is good.
Coming up for air as the rain brings much welcomed relief from heat and humidity.
trump is still president and sucks as much as ever…
mrdoodlesdog… great to see you here again.
Sorry about Ed Schultz.
BlondeW… hope you’re right about Mueller and the indictments.
This trade war is hitting home. Yesterday I ordered a paramouse from China. It was dispatched by China Post last night. I wonder what the shipment’s fate will be.
I’ve seen much less reaction to the self-immolation death of the USAF veteran who was protesting care of vets by the VA. Is this just “another nut, nuthin’ to see here”?
well Flatus, the Journal can try, but everything I’ve seen shows no change in this so-called recovery’s trend — steady decline in middle income jobs, while growth in low-wage jobs makes the overall employment numbers look deceptively good. In other words, “full employment” can mean more people earning less than they did before.
BW
always good to read you in the AM makes my day
Nikki Haley may very well be proud of her family and heritage too bad she doesn’t accord the same right to others
Craig, I found the article…it’s above the fold on page one of yesterday’s paper—More Employees Say ‘I Quit’ Strong economy gives workers the incentive–and gumption–to seek better jobs, higher pay By David Harrison and Eric Morath
It cites data from federal sources. As an example:
Labor Department data show that 3.4 million workers quit their jobs in April, the last figure available. That was near a 2001 peak and twice the 1.7 million who were laid off from jobs that month.
Job hopping is happening across industries, including retail, food service and construction, a sign of broad-based labor-market dynamism.
Flatus, when middle-income jobs finally start rising I’ll believe it. Sounds to me like WH torturing the stats to hide this issue.
As for the UN ambassador, she is yet another public servant who needs to be called-out. Her withdrawal and subsequent language regarding the Human Rights Council? Despicable. haley almost made me proud after she tried to give voice to trump’s accusers in December…she used to be proud of her heritage, but is silent on the border baby-napping going on, dna testing and constitutional abuse. She actually had a voice after Charlottesville and then allowed pompeo, bolton and kudlow to take over.
From the artilcle —
The move, which the Trump administration has threatened for months, came down one day after the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights slammed the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border as “unconscionable.”Speaking from the State Department, where she was joined by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Haley defended the move to withdraw from the council, saying US calls for reform were not heeded.
“Human rights abusers continue to serve on, and be elected to, the council,” said Haley, listing US grievances with the body. “The world’s most inhumane regimes continue to escape its scrutiny, and the council continues politicizing scapegoating of countries with positive human rights records in an attempt to distract from the abusers in its ranks.”
I know you like her, flatus and good for you. She was never my governor and I am not as attached to her. Just like you will never know what it was like to live under Richardson, Johnson or Martinez. Another view on her complicity.
It is my America, too, and I am sorry we do not always agree on things, but that does not invalidate my opinion or yours.
The economic recovery from the great recession is very uneven. I see no difference in my area as to this hot economy. The commercials on tv are still very predatory, targeting the poor and desperate in my area. All gains from the stock market this year? Wiped-out. Trade wars? Consumers will pay the price. The price of gas? Everything costs more. Many Americans lost big (think solar and his house) with no time or opportunity to recoup massive losses from the bushie years of abuse.
An interesting view on the economy form Economic Innovation Group.

This is supposedly Trump’s Itinerary in England. It’s really heavy on the Churchill theme with scheduled events at Blenheim and Chequers both outside of London. Supposedly they will spend a night at the Embassy in London, but baby blimp & scheduled protests may cause changes to that. Advice to the President: Don’t look up or side to side.
It doesn’t look as if the Queen is looking forward to the event either as it is a short (no dinner) meeting at Windsor which is on the outskirts of London.
Hope the Queen gives Trumpsky the royal eye roll, if not an outright tongue-lashing/history lesson.
Do you suppose the folks who were poisoned this week were the result of risidual residue from the Skripal case, or, is this Putin letting everyone know he can get to them? (And by everyone, I mean those on team Trumpsky.)
He might want to look up at the Trump baby float, cuz it’s the only parade he deserves. (Can we borrow it for the Thanksgiving Day parade?)
Typically, wages in mid-level jobs tend to rise as businesses compete for the proven employees leaving entry level positions in other businesses.
Jamie & pogo, now if it had been pappy van winkle (Known as one of the finest bourbons in the world, any bottle of Pappy Van Winkle is a rare find. What’s unknown is how many cases are available each year.) and not old barton (both now produced by sazarac) you would have to share your b&b with a multitude.
On what grounds is the military breaking these contracts with the soldiers? And what is the point?
And really SFB attacked George HW Bush over the 1000 points of light.

Patd, truth be known I’m not much of a bourbon drinker, although my RW KY friend twists my arm occasionally. He’s a top shelf bourbon snob so I indulge his preferences without any complaints.
As US Ambassador to the UN… it means that Nikki Haley represents all of us… not just the good people of South Carolina. She’s fair game for criticism by all of us, IMO. And… IMO… she’s the typical “I got mine… now I don’t care if you get yours” republican.
What are they trying to build an all white army ?
KGC… and this would surprise you (obviously rhetorical)
Haley, as an Ambassador, works for the Secretary of State; and, as a member of the Cabinet, works for the President. All three of these individuals are sworn to uphold our Constitution. But, the only one who is directly accountable to the voters via the ballot is our president.
We know him as President Donald J. Trump, L’Etat, c’est moi.
The Constitution belongs to we the American people. And in that capacity we will criticize all members of our government whether directly voted on by the ballot or not. Ms Haley is as much fair game as Scott Pruitt was/is.
His honor guard is not all white nor are the crews of his aircraft. If he put the demand to make them white to me, ]I would put in my papers forthwith and call a news conference of the influential publications to which I subscribe. And I still have the honorific of ‘The Honorable’ to use when needed. And a full vocabulary of four-letter words, like ‘prick’.
Robert Reich:
Reminder about today’s jobs numbers:
1) They have little to do with Trump. The economy gained jobs for 75 months straight before he took office.
2) The tax cuts haven’t boosted wages. In fact, hourly earnings are down for millions of workers.
3) The deficit has exploded.
@RBReich
I have about as much use for Nikki Haley as she has for me….which I suspect is in the neighborhood of “none”.
Having witnessed in action a number of old southern Aunts well-versed in the art of “cutting” with a sweet smile, I imagine the Queen of England is quite an expert in that form of social interaction and will make the best of her meeting with the German clod.
