I’m just getting on a bus from the media centre to the G7 where UK prime minister Keir Starmer is currently in a working session with Volodymyr Zelenskyy entitled “Building peace and security for Ukraine and for Europe”.
Starmer is due to speak to broadcasters immediately after and then the rest of the UK press pack, including the Guardian.
While Iran, the peace deal and the reopening of the strait of Hormuz are dominating discussions, EU leaders will hope that they can capture Donald Trump’s attention for long enough to speak to him about Ukraine.
US officials have previously said that Trump will not meet the Ukrainian president privately but French president Emmanuel Macron was overheard telling Zelenskyy this morning that he would see what he could do.
As the host of the G7 meeting, Macron invited Zelensky to attend the sidelines of the gathering, hoping his presence could help shore up the group’s support for Ukraine.
A key part of the mission is getting US President Donald Trump on board.
At the Hôtel Royal where the summit is taking place, Macron was overheard saying:
“So first, do you have a bilateral thing organised … with president Trump?” before offering to “arrange this.”

As has been seen at every other World Cup, the fans hung around Dallas Stadium in Arlington long after the game ended to clean up their trash left behind, a tradition that has caught eyes every four years since 1998 in France, the country’s first appearance in the World cup.
The effort is in stark contrast to traditional soccer fans, who leave behind their trash to be cleaned up by stadium employees. And in past years, Japanese fans have even cleaned dressing rooms after a loss, and left thank-you notes on trash bags.
According to the Associated Press, this behavior is taught starting in elementary school and is inspired by the phrase “tatsu tori ato wo nigosazu,” which literally translates to “a bird leaves nothing behind.” It’s a poetic way of saying to leave something the way out found it.
Also, AP says there are few public trash containers in Japan, so people often take their trash home with them.

In a letter sent to the foreign secretary on Friday, 101 parliamentarians and members of the House of Lords, warned the event was “firmly embedded in Israel’s project of colonial expansion by facilitating the sale of land that has been stolen from Palestinians” and called on the government to take “all necessary steps” to stop the event from going ahead in the capital.
On Tuesday, the UK along with other western powers, announced it is imposing sanctions on six firms and one individual for enabling and financing the recent upsurge in settler violence in the West Bank.
However, it fell short, in banning trade with illegal Israeli settlements, which more than 140 Labour MP’s, including the chairs of every Labour-led select committee, called on government to do earlier this week.
The London event is the final stop in a series of international roadshows which had appeared to advertise the sale of land in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, and invites individuals to “explore the best Anglo neighbourhoods” and find their “dream home”.
The event, billed as private, invitation only and with free admission, offers consultants on insurance, tax and mortgage advisers and transferring funds. It also includes a map of the territory featuring no delineation of Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as Syria’s Golan Heights.
The event comes as settler violence in the West Bank has reached unprecedented levels, and as a coalition of western countries – including the UK, France, Canada, Germany and Italy – have called for an end to the construction of Israeli settlements it says breach international law.

“When the war started settler leadership understood they had an unprecedented opportunity to step up ethnic cleansing for the area,” Sarit Michaeli, international director of rights group B’Tselem.
“The midterm goal is to remove Palestinians from all the open land in the West Bank, and they are doing this with the full participation of the Israeli government. The settler maps make clear that ultimately they want to empty the land of Palestinians.”

Buried deep inside a 192-page intelligence authorization bill is Section 622, titled “United States-Israel Intelligence Sharing Enhancement.” It would require the president, acting through the director of national intelligence and as necessary the secretary of defense, to “expand and enhance intelligence sharing with the Government of Israel” on a list of subjects that encompasses almost every topic of intelligence interest in the Middle East.
The bill, put forward by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, would prohibit any suspension, reduction, or limitation of such sharing “except on the basis of a specific and identifiable national security concern determined by the President.” Any such exception would require a report to Congress within fifteen days detailing not only the reason for the change but also the categories of information involved. The same report would require an assessment of the anticipated impact on regional security and various other matters.

Iran’s Mehr News Agency has released what says are all 14 clauses of the MoU with the U.S.:
1: Permanent and immediate cessation of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
2: The US commitment to non-interference in Iran’s internal affairs and respect for the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
3: Complete lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days.
4: The US commitment to withdraw its forces from around Iran.
5: Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days under Iranian arrangements.
6: Suspension of sanctions on the sale of oil, petrochemical products, and derivatives, and full access of Iran to its financial resources.
7: The necessity for the US and its allies to present reconstruction plans for Iran amounting to at least $300 billion.
8: 60 days of negotiations to reach a final agreement based on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of primary, secondary, US sanctions, and UN Security Council and IAEA Board of Governors resolutions.
9: Reiteration of Iran’s commitment under the NPT treaty not to produce nuclear weapons.
10: During the negotiation period, the US has committed not to add forces in the region and not to impose new sanctions.
11: Release of $24 billion of Iran’s blocked funds during the 60-day final negotiation period. Half of this amount must be made available to Iran before the start of negotiations.
12: Formation of a supervisory mechanism to implement the agreement.
13: The final agreement will be approved by a UN Security Council resolution.
14: Final negotiations will not begin before the release of half of Iran’s blocked funds, suspension of Iran’s oil sanctions, and lifting of the naval blockade, and the final agreement will only cover the fate of enriched materials and enrichment, lifting of sanctions, and Iran’s economic reconstruction plan. Discussions about Iran’s missile program and support for resistance groups are definitively removed from the agenda.
Full Iran-U.S. MoU as published by Saudi news agency, Al-Arabiya:
1. Iran & the U.S., together with their allies in the current war, declare upon the signing of this MoU an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and commit that from now on they will refrain from the threat or use of force against each other. The final agreement will confirm the provisions of this article and remaining articles.
2. Iran & the U.S. commit to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.
3. Iran & the U.S. commit to negotiate and reach a final agreement within a maximum period of 60 days, extendable by mutual consent.
4. Immediately upon the signing of this MoU, the U.S. will lift the naval blockade and prevent any interference or obstruction against Iran, and restore traffic within a maximum of 30 days to its full capacity; ship traffic shall be proportional to the pre-war volume of traffic on the part of Iran. The U.S. also commits to withdraw its forces from the surrounding areas within 30 days after the final agreement.
5. Upon signing this MoU, Iran will immediately take steps to ensure that the movement of merchant ships from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa is resumed within 30 days to the pre-war volume, taking into account the need for the removal of technical obstacles and the neutralization of mines by Iran.
6. The U.S. commits, together with its regional partners, to create a comprehensive plan agreed upon by both parties for the rehabilitation and economic development of Iran, While ensuring financing of at least $300 billion. The implementation mechanism of this plan, as part of the final agreement, will be formulated within 60 days.
7. The U.S. commits to ending, on a schedule to be agreed upon as part of the final agreement, all types of sanctions currently facing Iran, including resolutions of the UN Security Council and the Board of Governors of the IAEA, and all unilateral U.S. sanctions, both primary and secondary.
8. Iran reiterates that it will never produce nuclear weapons. Iran & the U.S. have agreed that the fate of enriched material and all other mutually agreed nuclear-related issues, including Iran’s nuclear needs, will be adequately addressed in a final agreement; the final agreement will confirm the provisions of this article.
9. Iran & the U.S. agree that, pending a final agreement, they will maintain the status quo: Iran will maintain the status quo on its nuclear program, and the U.S. will not impose new sanctions on Iran or strengthen its forces in the region.
10. The U.S. commits that immediately after the signing of this MoU, and until the date of the lifting of sanctions, the U.S. Treasury will issue waivers for exports of Iranian crude oil, petrochemical products and their derivatives, and all related services, including banking, insurance, transportation, etc.
11. The U.S. commits that, in light of the progress of negotiations towards a final agreement, frozen or restricted funds and assets of Iran will be released and made fully available. These funds, whether held in the master account or transferred, will be used for any final beneficiary payment determined by the Central Bank of Iran and will be fully available for use. The U.S. undertakes to issue all necessary permits and licenses on this basis.
12. Iran & the U.S. agree that an implementation mechanism will be established to oversee the successful implementation of and future commitment to the final agreement.
13. Following the signing of this MoU, and upon receipt of assurances regarding the commencement of implementation of article 4, 5, 10, & 11 of this MoU, and the continued implementation of these steps, Iran & the U.S. will enter into negotiations for a Final Agreement solely with respect to the remaining Articles.
14. The final agreement will be approved through a binding resolution of the UN Security Council.
