Quantum computing is often seen as a risk to bitcoin. Now Trump wants to develop it.
The White House issued twin executive orders to accelerate U.S. development of large-scale quantum computers while simultaneously hardening defenses against such machines.
“Within 60 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of War shall identify at least three next-generation quantum sensor projects to prioritize in order to field these sensors by September 30, 2028,” the order says.
Executive Order 14411 pushes for an effort called QC-ADDS to produce a large-scale quantum computer, with the “intent to deliver at least one such computer to a Department of Energy facility and, to the extent possible, make it available to the scientific community.”
Executive Order 14409 focuses on what happens once a quantum computer is powerful enough to break today’s encryption.
It explicitly says that adversaries may already be collecting encrypted U.S. data, or information mathematically scrambled into an unreadable format to protect it from unauthorized access, and could decrypt it in future with the help of quantum computers.
That’s the “harvest now, decrypt later” problem. Steal the locked box today, crack it open whenever the tool to do so finally exists.
The fix, according to the order, is a hard post quantum cryptography (PQC) migration timeline. Federal agencies must move their most sensitive systems to post-quantum cryptography for key establishment by the end of 2030, and for digital signatures by the end of 2031.
In other words, the government plans to replace the current method for setting up secure, encrypted connections with a new way that remains secure from future quantum computers.

Quantum computing has been a buzzword in the crypto industry since Google researchers said a sufficiently powerful machine could crack Bitcoin’s blockchain with significantly less firepower than previously expected.

Ken Paxton and James Talarico are neck and neck in U.S. Senate race, new poll finds
The vast majority of Republicans indicated they had moved on from the bitter GOP primary and now support Paxton. Talarico had commanding leads among independents and moderates.
Paxton led Talarico 43% to 42%, with a 3.5-point margin of error, the survey found, largely aligning with other recent polls, which have reported a competitive race since the general election nominees were solidified last month. The result puts Paxton on a promising trajectory, coming after he trailed Talarico by 8 percentage points in the same pollster’s April survey.
The latest poll queried 1,200 self-reported registered voters from June 5 to 12, around three weeks after the race was set when Paxton, the hardline conservative attorney general, bested U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican runoff election.

A federal judge in Texas blocked a Biden administration rule on Monday that allowed immigration judges to indefinitely close a deportation case against immigrants on the same day Texas sued to stop the rule.
The lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice was also co-filed by America First Legal Foundation, an organization founded by Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to President Trump who has focused on ways to limit both legal and illegal immigration to the country. America First Legal Foundation also previously filed various lawsuits representing Paxton against the Biden administration’s immigration policies, which helped derail President Biden’s immigration agenda in his lone term.
In this latest complaint, Paxton’s office said in the 43-page lawsuit that the Biden-era rule “effectively grant(s) indefinite amnesty to aliens illegally present in this country.”

Benjamin Song was sentenced to 100 years in federal prison Tuesday for wounding a police officer at an ICE detention center protest in Texas, alongside seven other defendants who each received decadeslong sentences.
Song denied hating cops or Trump, claiming Tuesday he fired to stop Alvarado police officer Thomas Gross from shooting an unarmed protestor.
“I saw Lt. Thomas Gross point his gun at the back of a running, unarmed protestor, and assuming an aggressive firing position, leaning forward hard into the recoil of his gun,” Song said in a written statement. “As a firearms instructor and a United States Marine Corps Veteran, I knew exactly what was about to happen. I knew another protestor was about to be murdered right in front of me.”
Song deemed the arrest and persecution of 21 people since the protest as “collective punishment” and “guilt by association.”
“This is injustice,” Song said. “So, should I have done nothing? Should I have looked the other way” Should I have just allowed yet another person to be slaughtered.”
The eight defendants were convicted in March on various riot, terrorism and explosives charges relating to the attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado on July 4, 2025. The defendants were accused of shooting fireworks at the facility and vandalizing property, resulting in Song shooting and wounding an Alvarado cop who was called to the scene. Song was the supposed ringleader and the only defendant convicted of attempted murder.
Maricela Rueda was sentenced to 70 years. Savanna Batten, Zachary Evetts, Autumn Hill, Meagan Morris and Elizabeth Soto were sentenced to 50 years, while Daniel Estrada was sentenced to 30 years.
Prosecutors have claimed the defendants are domestic terrorists with links to antifa who used tactical gear and encrypted messaging apps.

Large-scale personnel cuts are now underway at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) under acting Director Bill Pulte, according to multiple reports Tuesday, marking the first major shakeup of the U.S. intelligence community since former DNI Tulsi Gabbard departed the post.
Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that hundreds of intelligence personnel could face termination or administrative leave as the administration moves forward with plans to reduce the size of the agency.

The Federal Communications Commission is poised to begin forcing the country’s telecom companies to collect names, addresses and government identification numbers for every cellphone customer.
If adopted — a likely outcome given the FCC’s current Republican majority who support it — the rules would effectively outlaw burner phones, devices that aren’t specifically tied to identifying data, allowing the privacy-minded to maintain their anonymity.
The proposal is called “Know-Your-Customer Requirements,” and the FCC is framing it as a way to stop robocalls and scammers.
But privacy experts say the FCC’s solution doesn’t address the core problem. Instead, it punishes those who use burner phones, including journalists, travelers, whistleblowers and domestic abuse survivors.

The credential appears to be a smart card utilized for secure verification and access. The photo of the card protruding from Vance’s laptop circulated extensively online.

The judicial map completely rewrote the 1st Congressional District, consolidating heavily Democratic Salt Lake County into a single, open seat. By stripping away the old R+10 Republican advantage, the court transformed the district into a Safe/Solid Democratic stronghold for November.

There is now video of workers sitting in the painted pool before it was filled picking at pieces of paint. It never stuck well to start with, and if you watch the video I put up of the guy who did an experiment…basically, the density of 12% hydrogen peroxide means that it just sunk to the bottom of the pool…it did not float and disperse in the water.
