Symphony No. 41 in C major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

From Wikipedia:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed his Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, on 10 August 1788. The longest and last symphony that he composed, it is regarded by many critics as among the greatest symphonies in classical music. The work is nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony,

  1. I am not much of a Mozart student I guess because I did not know about this one, and I’m sort of glad because I am enjoying it for the first time now. Thanks Jack.

  2. BB, I don’t think Amadeus would mind the cowbell one bit considering this

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had a reputation as a prankster largely due to his playful, mischievous personality, which he often expressed in both his personal life and his work. Despite being one of history’s greatest musical geniuses, Mozart was known for his sense of humor, sometimes bordering on the outrageous, especially by the standards of 18th-century high society. Here are a few reasons behind this reputation:
    1. He wrote a piece titled “A Musical Joke,” where passages were played out of tune to mock incompetent composers.
    2. He hid backstage and played a glockenspiel part incorrectly during a performance of The Magic Flute to prank the main actor.
    3. He wrote a piece called ‘Leck mich im Arsch’ (we’ll let you translate that 🫢).

  3. It’s a trap! Trump’s rants about foreign meddling are about manufacturing a pretext to seize ballots and set aside the election results if Republicans lose. They’ve quietly gutted CISA, blinded the FBI, and set up the SAVE Act to fail just to have a built-in scapegoat.

They aren’t trying to lock the door; they’re unbolting it to invite the chaos and run the heist themselves.

  4. Jack, Thank you for the Jupiter. It is a magnificent work.

Patd, You outdid yourself this morning.

Nash, there is always room for more cowbell.

Jordan Is Becoming a New Focus in the U.S.-Iran War

The flurry of attacks and the losses they have caused are a sign that Iranian forces not only still have ample missile stocks but have also become more adept at evading U.S. air defense systems, said the U.S. officials, who were speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss operational matters.

  7. Today in the Diner…
Trump, ICE & The Maine Ballot Trap

Trump is plotting to use ICE to seize Maine ballots. We break down the trap facing Troy Jackson, plus Dr. Oz’s Trump Derangement Syndrome clips.

We kick things off today in the Digital Diner with a trip down memory lane, roasting Dr. Oz and his bizarre TV history. From Trump Derangement Syndrome to his famous Wegmans crudite meltdown and pushing Garcinia Cambogia with Jimmy Kimmel, we look at why the current president surrounds himself with these TV personalities. We also take a detour to the Great White North to talk about John Candy and Rick Moranis on Second City TV, plus some explosive drone footage coming out of Moscow.

But the real meat of the broadcast is the upcoming CNN debate with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson has a massive opportunity to land hits on Susan Collins. This leads us to a terrifying realization about the Save Act and the November election. By gutting the Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency, Donald Trump and his allies like Todd Blanche are laying a trap. They want foreign interference so they can claim fraud and send ICE to seize ballot boxes in tight states like Maine.

We wrap up the day talking about Dolly Parton bringing her life story to Broadway at the St. James Theatre, a look back at the legendary Chelsea Hotel, and we go out with some music from Zach Bryan thanks to a special guest appearance from Vanessa dropping in from Columbus, Ohio.

  8. Craig:

Here’s where you can find lots of copyright free music.

    archive.org.

The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.

We began in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Like newspapers, the content published on the web was ephemeral – but unlike newspapers, no one was saving it. Today we have 30 years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine and we work with 1,400+ library and other partners through our Archive-It program to identify important web pages.

As our web archive grew, so did our commitment to providing digital versions of other published works. Today our archive contains more than:

    1 trillion web pages
    56 million books and texts
13 million audio recordings (including 280,000 live concerts)
15 million videos (including 3.3 million Television News programs)
    5.3 million images
    1.3 million software programs

Anyone with a free account can upload media to the Internet Archive. We work with thousands of partners globally to save copies of their work into special collections.

  9. Thanks Nash. I used that link to find and download the Zach Bryan song Dexter daughter was talking about in chat (audio attached here):

Country star Zach Bryan sparked a political firestorm in October 2025 after teasing a clip of an unreleased, anti-ICE song titled “Bad News”. The lyrics—which feature lines like “ICE is gonna come bust down your door” and “Kids are all scared and all alone”—drew heavy backlash from government officials and conservative figures.

    Zach Bryan, “Bad News” 👇

  10. click that instead to support him

not a lot of regime critical country stars so you might as well

in fact, most of them are regime enabling so Zach Bryan is courageous

  11. you can’t tell me the founding fathers envisioned international scrutiny of every state level election

    Citizens United is absurd

  12. Fine, so long as state and local investigators can collect the evidence and do it themselves.

F.B.I. Will No Longer Investigate ICE Confrontations.
    — New York Times (Trail Mix Free Link):

Federal agents around the country were told in recent days that the F.B.I. would no longer investigate confrontations with immigration agents — cases that sometimes yield evidence that could be used to prosecute Department of Homeland Security agents implicated in violent encounters, according to people briefed on the decision.

  13. Home from The Odessey! Giving it a B+, but if you are not fully a mythology nerd then I could see it being an A. There were inconsistencies and a bit mixing of things to most likely shorten the time, but either way great watch!

  14. tom cruise is an exporter of american culture

which is also a fundamental mission of the BBC (for their culture), why actors get knighted

  15. Propaganda. Got it. Didnt seem to be any applause for him. Celebrity has dying for awhile, thanks to Kardashi-who-are-they and social media influence-who-are-they, which is a good thing.

  16. My comment was about celebrity, in general. Scientology is worse than “hokem,” as are most organized religions; hierarchy, power, control, abuse. Tale as old as patriarchy.

The 14 Best Scientology Documentaries (Ranked)

    ****
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_birth

The concept of silent birth is a mandatory practice in Scientology doctrine. It is based upon the principle that expectant mothers must be provided the utmost care and respect and Hubbard’s words: “Everyone must learn to say nothing within the expectant mother’s hearing using labor and delivery. Particularly during birth, absolute silence must be maintained and the more gentle the delivery, the better.” Silent birth is meant to make the transition to physical separation from the mother less painful for the child. The church does not take a position against using medication during birth or the practice of birth by caesarean section.

l”My daughter was breastfed until she was on solid food because when we tried to give her LRH’s Barley Formula…
(Not even going to give you the formula ingredients; if you feel the need to look it up, please do not use it, it is a thin watery thing with karo syrup in it and, it causes malnutrition, don’t give it to your baby) …she would bite the nipple off the bottle and throw the bottle across the room, smart girl.”

*The entire thing seems nuts, and all because some narcissistic loon from Nebraska liked to write sci-fi, and concocted a bunch of rules to empower himself/his ideas over others. My “hokem” is just patterns; it doesn’t require anything of anyone, but they are there whether or not they are recognized.

  17. never heard any allegations about him specifically beyond enabling miscavaige

    humans like worshipping the powerful

  18. het your pop queen is turning out be be just another vapid status-chaser if we’re being iconoclastic

she probably takes a private jet to the grocery store

  19. I know Cruise is something of a reviewer pet, but I’ve never liked him as an actor particularly for the last 20 years. He is pretty much Tom Cruise playing Tom Cruise.

  20. you could make the same criticism of Jackman

Jackman has no roles as good as “Vince” in “Color of Money”

Cruise has like a 40 year career generating billions of dollars, a very good catalogue, and no allegations, gotta respect it

  21. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cglj255jk8ko

Russians are returning to cash, as mobile internet shutdowns disrupt card payments, and more businesses seek to dodge tax under mounting financial pressure more than four years into the war with Ukraine.

Russia has added 1.56tn roubles (£14.8bn; $20bn) in cash into circulation since the start of the year – the biggest rise for the equivalent period in any year outside the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Central Bank figures analysed by the BBC.

The spike comes amid a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks, which have repeatedly led the Kremlin to shut down mobile internet across large swathes of the country, leaving many unable to pay by card.

Now, the shift is making it harder for the state to collect tax, just as it faces a widening budget deficit and needs every rouble it can raise to fund the war in Ukraine.

Although Russia’s oil and gas sector, which accounts for about a quarter of state revenues, has benefited from a recent rise in oil prices following the Iran war, the broader economy is slowing.

  22. Agree, Jamie. He’s a very mannered actor. I can only think of five movies of his that I’ve seen, and in two of them he kicked the ground to show anger. I know one of those was “Rain Man,” but not sure of the other.

Anyone know what the crowd was chanting at the end of the booing of Dumbass?

  23. Biebs did well

Shakira makes me forget i’m helping to enrich the man who destroyed our society (Murdoch)

  24. Risky Business (Blockbuster tape)
    Cocktail
    Rain Man
    Top Gun
    Born on the4th of July

Those are the only Cruise movies I’ve seen, but I’ve never been a big movie goer.

Never did get JB, but Kate McKinnon’s impression of him is hilarious. Liked BTS and Shakira; didn’t need Bieber or Madonna. Muppets always kill it.

    I miss Blockbuster.

  25. “far and away” and “valkyrie” are two cruise flops that are actually very good

biebs sounded very clean which is tough to do in a stadium like that, his voice is legit and his guitar is good enough

  26. As I said, the last 20 years. You can say the same about Jackman as Wolverine as that is a definite constant character with the exception of Logan where he stretched it to its limit, but its the other roles where he totally becomes someone else. In them the range becomes wild even in the less successful films such as Pan or Butter.

    The Fountain
    Sheep Detectives
    Bad Education
    Prestige
    Les Miserables
    Prisoners
    Real Steel
    Song Sung Blue
    Greatest Showman
    The Front Runner

  27. all movies where iackman plays jackman with slightly different hairstyles

    i seen em all

him and nicholas braun best things about sheep detectives which was meh

winter lamb was adorable, not gonna lie

how does kate and leopold not make your list

  28. Loved Kate & Leopold, even though time travel stories require a lot of the viewer. It was fun and sweet, but weird.

The worst was The Lake House, which had a magic mailbox; it was on cable TV, as were probably most of the movies I’ve seen in my life.

  29. that idiot thought he’d have a bow tied up around the his war before the tournament, takes some nerve to go to a sporting event, especially the day after threatening more war

  30. lake house is keanu

    lol (@ myself)

oh ok you mean romantic time travel movies, it’s a whole genre now, lake house is shakespeare by comparison to the new stuff

  31. Both of them have had pretty good careers as entertainers and they’ve had good movies to generate them.

Spain is making Argentina look like they don’t know how to play soccer – 85 minutes and not a shot on goal – except their keeper- Martinez, who with 8 saves so far is earning his money today.

  32. Hot Tub Time Machine to Interstellar is a wide range, although I’ve not seen either in their entirety.

Adolf gonna get booed mercilessly if he hands out that WC trophy? Will it be worse for him if Spain wins? Sage that VIP suite of the fascist ick. Next up, the 2028 Olympics. 🆘

  33. outlander is a prime example of the genre i ‘m talking about

most often portal-based travel as opposed to machine-based

    the people demand portals

  34. What if a machine created the portal?

    España!!!!🇪🇸

Hope it makes Adolf more miserable, handing WC trophy to a geopolitical nemesis, and hopefully he will have to eat the booing. Would be nice if Spain unfurled a Palestinian flag in his orange face.

  35. Finally….

    From today’s Guardian

Amid a summer of dangerous heat, drought and floods, a majority of Americans are connecting increasingly severe weather to the climate crisis, new polling shows, despite efforts by Donald Trump to dismiss global heating as a “con job” and a “hoax”.

It’s a sign that attempts to suppress polarize climate concerns may not be seeing full success, said Grace Adcox, senior climate strategist at Data for Progress.

  36. Five people are on a plane that is going to crash; Oprah, the Pope, Greta Thunberg, Trump and Dr. Fauci. Only four parachutes though.

Fauci takes one, says “I’ve got to live so I can find a cure for this pandemic and jumps out of the plane.”

The Pope takes one, says “I have to be there to provide spiritual guidance to the faithful during this pandemic and he jumps out.”

Trump takes one, says “I have to live, I’m the smartest person in the world” and jumps out.

Oprah says to Greta, “You take the last one. I’ve lived a good life and yours is just beginning. You may save the world from climate change.”

Greta says, “No worries. There is still one for each of us. The smartest man in the world just jumped out of the plane with my backpack.”

  37. Climate Change joke #2

Arctic terns, birds long famous for their thousands of miles migratory habits, have been profoundly affected by climate change. Researchers have determined that as landmarks have disappeared due to loss of ice, some terns get stressed to the point of prematurely ending their flights.

Exposure to cannabinoids reduces stress levels in the stopped birds, allowing them to continue their journey. A team formed to find the colonies of stragglers and drop literal marijuana smoke bombs on the birds.

The head of the expedition acknowledged that it was a huge undertaking, but vowed to
    leave no tern unstoned.

  38. And the true state of the animal world

    It’s Getting Crowded

In 1776 at the nation’s founding, the population of the thirteen colonies was approximately 2.5 million. Per the U. S. Census Bureau, the current population for the whole of the United States is more than 340 million. Current global population is about 8.3 billion.

Historically, animals have held nearly (100%) of the Earth’s surface, but human expansion drastically altered this. Today, less than (3%) of terrestrial ecosystems remain functionally intact. By weight, humans and livestock now constitute (96%) of all mammal biomass, leaving wild animals at just (4%).

Global monitored wildlife populations have declined by an average of 73% between 1970 and 2020. This does not mean 73% of individual animals have gone extinct, but rather that the average size of monitored populations—across mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish—has shrunk by that amount.

The decline varies significantly by location and ecosystem:

Internet stunned as Trump skips Lindsey Graham tribute for race cars: ‘Didn’t mention him’

Trump was speaking about the upcoming Freedom 250 Grand Prix Showcase at the White House in Washington, D.C., in which top racing drivers are expected to take on a course around the National Mall. He was surrounded by professional drivers and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

“Trump just delivered his first speech after the death of his allegedly dear friend Lindsey Graham, which happened less than 48 hours ago. He didn’t mention him once. RIP,” journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on X.

“He will again—when he tries to guilt Congress into passing The SAVE America Act in honor of Lindsey,” Mason, an Iraq War veteran and political commentator, wrote on X.

  42. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/dc-grand-prix-freedom-250-race-route-revealed/4072803/

“The Freedom 250 Grand Prix street circuit will feature a 1.7-mile, seven-turn layout, blending the high-speed demands of INDYCAR racing with the historic character and stunning visuals of the nation’s capital. The racing circuit will wind around the National Mall, incorporating some of America’s most historic and iconic landmarks,” a statement said.

The route includes a “sweeping 0.4-mile frontstretch along Pennsylvania Avenue, framed by the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol,” it said.

The pit lane area will be on Pennsylvania Avenue, between Turns 1 and 2 on the circuit design,” plans say.

    *What could go wrong??

  43. This is spinning out of control…
AXIOS: The U.S. military launched fresh strikes against Iran on Sunday evening, after announcing the death of one American service member and the recovery of another’s remains following an Iranian missile strike in Jordan. The big picture: The deaths underscore the growing toll of the U.S.-Iran conflict as both countries continue military attacks and the risk of further escalation rises.

  44. a bigger circuit would be cool

I’m not anti-F1 but it looks like that circuit was deliberately designed as a “fuck you” to people that value DCs cultural attractions, to be fair

  45. if trump wasn’t an idiot, maybe he’d have learned a lesson from asymmetrical drone-dominated warfare in Ukraine, but he is an idiot and now there are no good off-ramps for his dumbest war of choice
