well, right now she’s doing this abc news: Michelle Obama Warns Young Voters Against Being ‘Turned Off’ Beyond her ability to take on Trump with a smile, Mrs. Obama’s real value to Clinton is her wild popularity with Democratic voters, particularly young people and blacks. She vouched repeatedly for Clinton’s resume and character, urging voters motivated by her husband’s history-making campaigns to feel the same way about the first woman nominated for president by a major U.S. party. “When I hear folks saying that they don’t feel inspired in this election, well let me tell you, I disagree— I am inspired,” Mrs. Obama said. [….] Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director and a former Obama adviser, called the first lady “an advocate without peer.” “There is no other surrogate with the reach, credibility and respect she has,” Palmieri said. Clinton herself has started referencing Mrs. Obama in her campaign remarks, using her… Read more »

people: Michelle Obama, Reuniting with Laura Bush, Issues a Warning to Presidential Candidates Who ‘Pop Off About Going to War’

We are in the roughly three and one half months left of the Obama presidency.  Barack seems to finally be relaxed in the position, and may be looking forward to a vacation before thinking of his next job.  Michelle has been the great thorn in the far right hind quarters for a long time.  Beautiful, youthful and a mother figure to a lot of youngsters who have been growing up these last eight years.  I would like to see her run for the White House in eight years.  Dynasty be damned, she could be one fine president. At last, a few in the media have started calling the con man and carny barker what he really is, a con man.  Will the networks cut back coverage?  I doubt it.  They are driven by ratings and covering a con man is good for those ratings.  It will be the public who… Read more »

bbronc, yes a few more pundits are calling him out as a liar like shields & brooks did last night on thepbs newshour: MARK SHIELDS: …t I think it’s important to establish right at the outset that he wasn’t only the loudest and the highest-profile and the most persistent and the most well-publicized birther, he, Donald Trump. He lied. He lied consistently and persistently. And, today, without explanation or excuse, he just changed his position and tried to absolutely falsely shift the blame onto Hillary Clinton. And this was an appeal to — he debased democracy. He debased the national debate. He appealed to that which is most ignoble or least noble in all of us And I think — I would like to put to rest right now one of the great theories of the Clinton, Bill Clinton, years. Bill Clinton was accused of being a skirt chaser, a draft dodger,… Read more »

Trump: Never wrong, never sorry, never responsible Karen Tumulty  But, as Trump inspires his supporters, he has also given the other side a new dose of motivation. His comments in Washington came as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation was gathering for its annual legislative meeting. “One of the things that we all are used to in this business is dog whistles, but the thing that we’re not used to, and I’m finding it very difficult to getting used to , are the howls of wolves,” Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), the dean of the caucus, said at a news conference. He and other caucus members said that Trump had served to remind African American voters what is at stake in November. “We’re going to vote and send a message,” said Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-Mich.). “Not only to the United States of America but to the world that is looking at… Read more »

Trump Makes His Birther Lie Worse

Gail Collins

What we have here is a candidate for president of the United States who makes stuff up all the time, but is either incapable of realizing that he’s telling a lie, or constitutionally unable to take blame for being untruthful.

Yet, according to the polls, Hillary Clinton’s biggest problem is that the public thinks she’s dishonest. Amazing.

I finally remembered the comparison I had floating around between the ears.  When Bonnie and Clyde were running around mid-America, robbing banks and killing people (no one should suggest the bloater is a murderer, he just hints at killing HRC), the media covered them like heroes.  Today, the media covers the confidence man in the same way.  At some point they have to realize that he is stealing from them like Bonnie and Clyde did back then.

using English re an idiom that may explain the drumpf mystique

To ‘wag the dog’ means to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance. By doing so, the lesser-significant event is catapulted into the limelight, drowning proper attention to what was originally the more important issue.
The expression comes from the saying that ‘a dog is smarter than its tail’, but if the tail were smarter, then the tail would ‘wag the dog’.

not accurate analogy, however,  to say drumpf is the smarter tail wagging the dumb media dog… to be precise: drumpf is what’s under the tail.

I remember well the heat Michelle Obama took when she said that this was a “down right mean” country.

Not only has she been a great First Lady, but in the age of Trump, it turns out that she was a prophet as well.

After almost three months, Cheryl and I have yet to doing anything about any type of television hook up.

At the rate this campaign is going I’m not sure that we are missing anything. Me thinks that it really is a vast wasteland, especially the political coverage. Books and conversation are looking better with each passing day.

more fall-out from colin powell’s leaked private musings or maybe a bombshell?

the hill: Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said in a leaked private email exchange that Israel has about 200 nuclear warheads targeting Tehran, the Associated Press reported.

The email conversation took place in 2015 amid Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress.

“Iranians can’t use [a nuclear weapon] if they finally make one,” Powell wrote to Democratic donor Jeffrey Leeds, according to the AP. “The boys in Tehran know Israel has 200, all targeted on Tehran, and we have thousands.”

Israel has never acknowledged having a nuclear arsenal, and U.S. government officials do not openly discuss it. But former President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has between 150 and 300 warheads.

At the rate this election is going Michelle will have to run for president in four years to unseat Trump!

dvitale300

I think Michelle will have an awful lot to do herself outside of the government.  She looks like the kind of person who wouldn’t want to work in the GOV.  Barak, on the other hand – I would LOVE to see him follow in the footsteps of Taft and go onto the Supreme Court.  It would be boffo to watch the Republicans in the Senate try to figure out a way to block his nomination.  Once she re-appoints Merritt, Bader will retire (assuming a Clinton Presidency).  What a golden opportunity to put the first Kenyan Muslim on the Supreme Court.  ‘Ol Jeff Beauregard Sessions’ head will literally explode right off of his neck.  “Pop goes the weasel”!  Just like the Martians in the movie Mars Attack.

Congrats on the anniversary Craig!

robert gates according to this cnn story: “When it comes to credibility problems, though, Donald Trump is in a league of his own,” Gates, a Republican who led the Defense Department under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Friday, adding that electing Trump is “too great a risk for America.” “The world we confront is too perilous and too complex to have as president a man who believes he, and he alone, has all the answers and has no need to listen to anyone,” Gates wrote. “A thin-skinned, temperamental, shoot-from-the-hip and lip, uninformed commander in chief is too great a risk for America.” Gates called Trump too “willfully ignorant about the rest of the world” to be commander in chief. He specifically criticized Trump’s plan to build a wall on the US border with Mexico, his call to torture terrorists and kill… Read more »

Christian science monitor: What makes Michelle Obama an effective Clinton campaigner?  The first lady told Virginia voters that the Democratic candidate has a unique resume and devotion to public service that make her an ideal candidate for the presidency.  [….] After endlessly repeated accusations of untrustworthiness that have dogged the Clinton campaign, Obama’s professed faith in the candidate may provide a needed breath of fresh air. She has established herself as reluctant to join the political fray, making her enthusiasm for Clinton all the more striking. Furthermore, Obama is in a unique position to understand the demands of the nation’s highest executive office, a fact that she used to Clinton’s advantage during her address in Virginia. Although she never mentioned Clinton’s Republican challenger, Donald Trump, Obama told rally attendees that the traits a candidate displays on the campaign trail do not disappear with the presidency. Instead, flaws are thrown into further… Read more »

Ms. Obama could rejoin her law firm and open a DC office.  She also had served on at least one corporate board

and she would be good.

I see the media has turned on Trump for the moment.  They are calling him out on false claims.  Too bad they are only doing it for revenge instead of it being the right thing to do.
