Dancing to Different Tunes

The Harris Walz by Christopher Weyant

PBS:

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign says it has now raised $540 million for its election battle against Republican nominee former President Donald Trump.

[…]

“Just before Vice President Harris’ acceptance speech Thursday night, we officially crossed the $500 million mark,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in a memo released by the campaign on Sunday. “Immediately after her speech, we saw our best fundraising hour since launch day.”

Trump has also proven to be a formidable fundraiser, but appears to be outpaced in her month-old campaign. Trump’s campaign and its related affiliates announced earlier this month that they had raised $138.7 million in July — less than what Harris took in during her White House bid’s opening week. Trump’s campaign reported $327 million in cash on hand at the start of August.

[…]

O’Malley Dillon said that nearly a third of contributions during convention week came from first-time contributors. About one-fifth of those first-time contributors were young voters and two-thirds were women, groups that the campaign sees as critical constituencies that Harris needs to turn out to win in November.

The Harris campaign says it has also seen a surge in volunteer support for the vice president. During convention week, supporters signed up for nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts to help the campaign.

Sean Hannity has been saying Trump shouldn’t debate since Kamala first emerged. Always for the reason that networks are biased, but he knows Trump well enough to realize he can’t handle it.

On Friday, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins told Bill Maher that Trump is “nervous” to debate Vice President Harris: “I still think it’s an open question, whether or not it happens…He really has struggled with how to combat her. And I think going into that debate, he does not really want to do it.”

Now there’s a debate over Harris campaign wanting to unmute microphones.

Harris spokesperson Brian Fallon: “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button”.

A couple of weeks on cruise control for the campaigns and then this proposed scheduled debate.  If the debate goes down, then watch the polls closely. Then we will have a real base point for the charge for the voters to finalize their choices. Trump really should debate Harris if he really thinks he will win so bigly like he is claiming.

Dex, I’m sure he feels like he could debate and make her look like a blithering idiot with his “clever” one liners, but his handlers are freaking out with visions of the prosecutor versus the felon in their minds. I remember a cartoon that I tried to dredge up from the 2nd Reagan campaign era but can’t seem to find that had Ronny standing at a podium, getting ready to go off script and tell one of his stories, and his advisors were scrambling over themselves to get to him to pull him away from the microphone.  I suspect something like that is going on in the Dumbass campaign.

i estimate the likelihood of trump debating Kamala at 0%

Would you want to after her acceptance speech?

i watch the rallies that Craig links, trump is a shell of the asshole he once was

it’s fun to read write -ups of them after the fact to see journalists try and glean policy proposals from his addled ramblings

Can’t argue with you on those points.  And wouldn’t.  Let me know if you run across an incredibly insightful journalist who can unravel the Gordian knot Dumbass thinks is insightful commentary.

“ Kamala Harris‘ presidential campaign is taking a different approach to the rules for the upcoming ABC News debate than Joe Biden did: They don’t want muted mics.
But Donald Trump‘s campaign does want the network to hit mute on whoever is not selected to speak.”

“Trump should honor his commitment to debate VP Harris on ABC on Sept 10 and he should reject his handlers’ attempts to muzzle him via a muted microphone,” Harris campaign spokesman Brian Fallon wrote on X this morning. “The VP is ready to debate Trump live and uncensored. Trump should stop hiding behind the mute button.”

Watching four year olds gives a good view of sfb thinking.  Calling people stupid names. Lying, but terrible at it. Stealing what he can off the adult table.  Tantrums all the time.
Right now he knows he has been cornered and would rather be the con man and grifter he used to be.  No one telling him he should or should not be doing something, especially something he thought was fun, ie shadowing HRC on stage (I think she should have backed up and driven a heel through his foot).  He can sort of understand that Harris is no Clinton, but he diminished mental processes make a lot of things very messed up.

I think he might do the debate, but he might find a way to go somewhere else and pretend it is the debate and Kamala is the one who did not show up.  The media is so bad they might fall for it.

Pogo

Maybe, but not so’s you’d remember.  Britannica summed his presidential accomplishments up succinctly – “Warren G. Harding was the 29th U.S. president (1921–23), whose brief administration accomplished little of lasting value.”  Now there’s a legacy. Ironically, he died while on a speaking tour. Probably didn’t have a lot to talk about.

Something has to be done about food prices NOW! It’s absolutely ridiculous here. I check the apps on my stores in TX v here and it’s just incredible how much more stuff costs here. I’ve shown that to folks who didn’t believe me, and they were shocked.

Aldi is 40 to 50 miles, round trip, but thanks.  It’s not me I’m worried about, but the folks I see at the store commenting on the high prices.

Disturbing to see all of the National Guard troops at Orange Adolf’s daily vomit.   Infuriating to see him place a wreath when we know what he thinks of soldiers, especially dead ones.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4848567-ex-aides-trump-bush-mccain-romney-endorse-harris/
“More than 200 former aides to the three GOP presidential nominees who preceded former President Trump in 2016 — former President George W. Bush, former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) — endorsed Vice President Harris on Monday.”
“Of course, we have plenty of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz. That’s to be expected. The alternative, however, is simply untenable,” the Republicans wrote.”
They added, “At home, another four years of Donald Trump’s chaotic leadership, this time focused on advancing the dangerous goals of Project 2025, will hurt real, everyday people and weaken our sacred institutions. Abroad, democratic movements will be irreparably jeopardized as Trump and his acolyte JD Vance kowtow to dictators like Vladimir Putin while turning their backs on our allies.”

There is a WalMart and a Midwest-based chain market here.  I’m sure folks who commute toward the city shop there.

Summers during college, I went back to my really tiny town and worked at the community action office.  Once a week, we drove the Sen-Low (seniors/low income) van to take folks to the doctor and stop at the department store that had a little bit of everything.  They weren’t allowed to buy food, but some did get canned goods only to be narced on by their neighbor.  They needed cheaper groceries, but the two grocery stores needed customers.

There are no longer any grocery stores in my hometown.  The WalMart 20 miles away took them down.  How are older folks supposed to get groceries if they can’t drive anymore?     It’s a cluster.

Just started reading but so far so good.   The Constitution has become a threat to American democracy. Due to its inherent flaws—its treatment of race, dependence on a tainted Electoral College, a glaringly unrepresentative Senate, and the outsized influence of the Supreme Court—Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of Berkeley Law School and one of our foremost legal scholars, has come to the sobering conclusion that our nearly 250-year-old founding document can no longer hold. Much might be fixed by Congress or the Supreme Court, but they seem unlikely to do so. One might logically conclude that amending the Constitution would solve the problem, yet logic seldom takes precedent, given that only fifteen of the 11,848 amendments proposed since 1789 have passed. Chemerinsky contends that without major changes, the Constitution is beyond redemption in that it has created a government that can no longer deal with the urgent issues, such as climate change and wealth inequalities, that threaten our nation and the world. Yet political Armageddon can still be avoided, Chemerinsky writes, if a new constitutional convention is empowered to replace the Constitution of 1787. Just as the Founding Fathers replaced the faulty Articles of Confederation that same year, we must, No Democracy Lasts Forever argues, rewrite the entire Constitution from start to finish. Still, Chemerinsky goes further than that, suggesting that without serious changes Americans may be on the path to various forms of secession based on a recognition that what divides us as a country is, in fact, greater than what unites us. No Democracy Lasts Forever asserts with exceptional clarity that if the problems with the Constitution are not fixed, we are ineluctably heading toward a crisis where secession is, indeed, possible and where it will be necessary to think carefully about how to preserve the United States as a world power in a very different form of government. Despite these troubles, Chemerinsky remains hopeful, revealing how the past offers hope that change can happen. The United States has been through enormously challenging and divisive times before, with a civil war and the Great Depression, and Chemerinsky ultimately shows that it may still be possible to… Read more »

Orange Adolf didn’t go to the cemetery to lay a wreath in the past, so why now?  Yeah, his campaign for dictator is sinking.  He never mentions the 63 soldiers who died in Afghanistan under his watch, just the 13 that were killed when we withdrew.   He never mentions that he was the one who screwed things up, either.
