Trump’s Full Castro

MAGA’s Dear Leader talked so long last night his convention lasted into a fifth day, at 1.5 hours the longest convention speech of a major party nominee in modern American history.

And as George W. Bush might say, “That was some weird shit”.

MeidasTouch Co-Founder Ben Meiselas: “Donald Trump said the following at his Republican convention speech tonight:

1. He asked if people knew his friend the “late great Hannibal Lecter.”

2. He praised Hungary’s authoritarian leader Viktor Orban.

3. He said North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un missed him.

4. He attacked the UAW Union.

5. He called COVID “the China Virus.”

6. He said he was buying votes in Wisconsin.

7. He thought Scott Walker was still the Governor of Wisconsin and praised his leadership. The Governor is Democrat Tony Evers who did not attend.

8. He said he was going to “take over the Auto Industry.”

9. He called Nancy Pelosi “Crazy Nancy.”

10. He said he wanted to hold the next Republican Convention in Venezuela.

11. He spread lies about the 2020 election.

12. He bragged that the Taliban called him “your excellency” and said they probably don’t call President Biden that.

it’s weird, i’m not seeing any media coverage of Black, Latinx, or Asian-American featured artists and speakers at the RNC

Why is the media not covering ALL of the Black, Latinx , and Asian-American featured artists and speakers from the RNC??

At least they put a Cuban-American on the ticket.  That’s pretty historic, eh?

Oh, nevermind, that’s right, they picked the literal self-described “hillbilly”.  Hm, i’m starting to notice a theme, here…

Give me a few days and maybe i’ll have decoded this mystery!

Credit where due: they sort of pretended, with a wink a nod, to kind of consider a Black American for VP (but not really)

Historic!

Donald Trump accepted his party’s nomination on the final night of the Republican National Convention following a rowdy speech from Hulk Hogan and a performance by Kid Rock. Meanwhile, viewers continued to be puzzled by the drastic change in Rep. Matt Gaetz’s appearance.

Very Reaganesque, Trump’s messing up facts.  I sat through the thing giving Trump a pass as he told his story of Saturday last, then of course Trump went back to his real self.  When that dumb bastard said UAW President Shawn Fain should be fired for allowing cars to be built in Mexico, I wanted to chuck a rock through the screen. When he said he was taking over the auto industry, I listened intently.  What did he mean?   Less government preacher saying the government is seizing production of transportation builders?
Right now Eugene Robinson said Trump’s campaign is not a juggernaut and Trump could be beaten. Of course he can, and must.  Now, I am nervous , as the air is out of Joe’s balloon.  I am for Joe Biden, but his party is revolting against him…put the old dog down. Well, my Labbie dog Pogo is 15, had a bad spell 2 months ago and I was praying she would not have to be put down…and with TLC, Pogo recovered and now is 100% fine.  Joe Biden in down now, and the pressure is intense against him.  I say never quit, Joe.  Better days are coming.   And sorry, I hate to write this, but a Harris led ticket would go down McGovern-like.  I never was a fan, wanting Stacey Abrams to get the nod in 2020 for the veep slot.  I never got over it.  I am for a totally open convention and if my man Joe goes down, I want either Josh Shapiro or Gretchen Whitmer to lead our ballot.

I wasn’t about to try and watch Dumbass last night. There was nothing he could do or say that would surprise or sway me to think differently about him. Reports of his speech confirm my thoughts and decision to avoid it. From what I can tell, other than a new skit about being shot the “speech” was just a collection of his oldies, maybe a little lower energy than his rallies, but with some embellishments.  I got a nice nap in instead.

Sometimes when names are stenciled onto things, duffel bags, jackets, and such, shortcuts are taken. Stencils are one size, and a long, almost unpronounceable, name is being painted on, a few letters are not used.  As long as you can read “OMXEEAMETTA”, you know who it is.  Name plates, paperwork, invitations get the full spelling.

I am so happy I no longer am in the IT world.  The sky is blue, the sun shines bright, the birds sing, the butterflies flutter and my dog loves me. Oh, and breakfast was soft boiled eggs, ham and an English Muffin. Life is good.

Binkster, I agree that there are a bunch of talented Dem hopefuls out there, and Kamala IMHO is among the top 3.  I’m not happy about it, but I’m slowly coming to a position of acquiescence to a change at the top of the ticket.

Irony in the Pogo household is that if that becomes the case, both Mrs. P and I will be saying “I told you so, didn’t I?” – She’ll be referring to Joe stepping down and I’ll be referring to Kamala stepping in (she was my choice back in 2020 before Joe stole the show in the primaries).

The danger of the MAGAt Party was on full display for those who usually don’t pay attention.    Even for MAGAts who only consume filtered moments of rallies, they heard about the (somehow) “late, great Hannibal Lecter” for the first time.   They still don’t realize MAGAtitis is about power and greed, selling America down the river to the billionaire class.

I happened to see in a flash overview a little column headline somewhere this morning. I thought washpoo but it might have been another media.  That said, it was retiring was as hard in politics as sports.  Quite true.  You devote your life, twenty-four/seven, to an activity and you reach to point of the locker room door is closed.  Watch sports players tearfully say goodbye.

Politics is even harder to leave.  You spend decades in office and you do not have to leave.  The Congress is quite full of ancient people, a few older than the Greatest Generation.  Towards the end you see them wheeled in for a vote, the aide helps raise their hand, and they are wheeled out to be rehooked up to some device or something.

Telling a president he needs to toss in the towel cannot be a pleasant experience, especially if the president is a high performer even if he stutters a bit.

I am with Joe all the way.  If he decides to retire, so be it, I will vote for the team after him, and it better be Harris.

I am against term limits. Totally against those for elected politicians. I am for term limits on appointed officials, like for the court formeerly known as supreme.

My interesting experience after I left you was finding myself in the middle of a police lockdown, guns and automatic rifles drawn, while they searched the building for two suspects. My “station” was among the 10 or so cops – not sure how or why that was the circumstance, they told me to just sit still – but it was a learning opportunity. They did their jobs, for which I was grateful. No suspects were found and they are presumably still at large.

Theater Play of the Week

The Clouds (Ancient Greek: Νεφέλαι, Nephelai) is a Greek comedy play written by the playwright Aristophanes. A lampooning of intellectual fashions in classical Athens, it was originally produced at the City Dionysiain 423 BC and was not as well received as the author had hoped, coming last of the three plays competing at the festival that year. It was revised between 420 and 417 BC and was thereafter circulated in manuscript form.[3]

Retrospectively, The Clouds can be considered the world’s first extant “comedy of ideas”[5] and is considered by literary critics to be among the finest examples of the genre.[6] The play also, however, remains notorious for its caricature of Socrates, and is cited by Plato in the Apology as a contributing factor to the philosopher’s trial and execution.[7][8]

Sideline book of the Week:
THE BIRTH OF TRAGEDY Out of the Spirit of Music,
by FW Nietzsche

Sturgeone

Very quid pro apropos

Nietzsche found in classical Atheniantragedy an art form that transcended the pessimism and nihilism of a fundamentally meaningless world. Originally educated as a philologist, Nietzsche discusses the history of the tragic form and introduces an intellectual dichotomy between the Dionysian and the Apollonian (very loosely: reality as disordered and undifferentiated by forms versus reality as ordered and differentiated by forms). Nietzsche claims life always involves a struggle between these two elements, each battling for control over the existence of humanity. In Nietzsche’s words, “Wherever the Dionysian prevailed, the Apollonian was checked and destroyed…. wherever the first Dionysian onslaught was successfully withstood, the authority and majesty of the Delphic god Apollo exhibited itself as more rigid and menacing than ever.” And yet neither side ever prevails due to each containing the other in an eternal, natural check or balance.

How bout dat….same old damn story.

An AR-15 by definition uses a .223 round, a little smaller than quarter of an inch

So, only a thousand of an inch bigger than a traditional .22 varmint rifle, BUT the casing is much bigger, holds more powder, which makes for a faster bullet that tears through multiple targets, which is why they are so dangerous

ban .223 rounds, been saying it for years, no 2nd amendment violation in the slightest (until the Roberts court contrives a rationalization otherwise)
