Sunday Serendipity

The bassoon is not an instrument I think of often and had never heard one doing a solo but Vivaldi wrote 39 concertos for the bassoon. I ran across this performance on youtube , with it’s fun and lively sound is perfect for a festive occasion, much better than most thanksgiving music.

I wasn’t able to find much information about the concerto but did run across this bit of information

Many consider the Concerto for Bassoon in E Minor (RV 484) to be one of Vivaldi’s most successful concertos. The opening Allegro poco draws inspiration from the only surviving movement of the Concerto for Flute RV 432. The Andante is languorous; the outer movements vigorous and intense, most notably the final Allegro with its irresistible and unmistakeable Vivaldian élan.

The performance is a national school competition in Poland which may add to the liveliness of the performance.

Enjoy, Jack

jack, a wonderfully sprightly alternative to what we usually hear coming out of that instrument.

the grandfather portrayal by a bassoon was my first introduction to it when a child. since then i’ve become very respectful of its emotional range and complexity.

BTW, here’s a neat clip by brodas bros of an actor mimicking peter’s grandpa while bassoonist plays.

here’s another side of the bassoon which next to the oboe must be the hardest instrument on the lungs ever created.  youthful attempts on my part always left me dizzy, close to fainting and my hat goes off to those who have mastered it.

Jack,  Great selection.  Definitely different and fun

Patd the dancing gradpa was a nice addition.

I had never heard this version of Peter and the Wolf narrated by David Bowie.  Adds a flavor milder than the original Sterling Holloway

In private huddles and phone conversations, however, Trump has been discussing an entirely different next act: another presidential run in 2024.

In a nod to the reality that he is destined to leave office in January, the president is seriously contemplating life beyond the White House, telling advisers that he wants to remain an omnipresent force in politics and the media — perhaps by running for the White House again.

Trump has told confidants he could announce a 2024 campaign before the end of this year, which would immediately set up a potential rematch with President-elect Joe Biden.

Trump also has been exploring ways to make money for relatively little work, such as giving paid speeches to corporate groups or selling tickets to rallies. In addition, he may try to write a score-settling memoir of his time as president and appear on television, in a paid or unpaid capacity.

raw story:

Far-right attorney L. Lin Wood, who represents right-wing accused murderer Kyle Rittenhouse and President Donald Trump, threatened on Saturday to sit out the two runoff elections in Georgia that will decide control of the U.S. Senate.
“Let’s speak truth about Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) and Sen. David Perdue (R-GA),” Wood wrote, referring to the two Republican nominees in the January runoffs.
“Why are they doing little or nothing to support efforts by GA citizens to address unlawful election and need for Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) to order special session of the legislature?” Wood asked, falsely claiming that Trump won Georgia, when in reality, the Peach State was won by President-elect Joe Biden.
“If not fixed, I will not vote in the GA runoff,” he threatened. “Will you?”

We all know  this date  here, and what it did to our country.

I was in the that hormone  fueled place know as the 8th grade. It was a Friday , and really big day at O.L. Slaton Jr. High, and for me as well.    The “Veleteens”  were to play an assembly after lunch , and that night there was a party at Viki Bowman’s.  And I had my first real date to it, with Marilyn Miller.  A cheer leader.
She had already installed  a ring in my nose to lead me around.

We got the news , just after Walter’s  calling it,  there was no “Veleteens” , and no party.
So that is how I spent this day 57 years ago,
No president I loved ,  No electric guitars I loved. And no wool sweater with a Big “S”  I loved.
The next night Vicki Bowman had her party.  And I spent some time in a closet with Ms. Miller  adjusting  my nose ring.
The next day , I got up and watched Lee Harvey  get shot on Live TV in the Dallas Police Station.

Crazy by it’s very nature ,  has a tendency  eat any yardstick that get’s near it.
