I was thinking of repeating a favorite Charlie Parker jazz session when I saw todays selection in the youtube algo suggestion list. A beautiful gospel that seem just right for today, even for this nonbeliever.

Walk in peace.

Enjoy, Jack

  1. jack, so right you are  = beautifully right for the day.  thanks

    a bit of lyrics:

through this life of toil and snares
if I falter lord who cares
who with me my burdens shares
none but thee dear lord none but thee

    from wiki:

The precise author of “A Closer Walk” was unknown until recently. Circumstantial evidence strongly suggested it dated back to southern African-American churches of the nineteenth century, possibly even prior to the Civil War, as some personal African American histories recall “slaves singing as they worked in the fields a song about walking by the Lord’s side.”. Horace Boyer cites a story that repudiates this claim, stating,
“On a train trip from Kansas City to Chicago, Morris exited the train on one of its stops to get some fresh air and heard one of the station porters singing a song. He paid little attention at first, but after he reboarded the train the song remained with him and became so prominent in his mind that at the next stop, he left the train, took another train back to the earlier station, and asked the porter to sing the song again. Morris wrote down the words and music and published the song “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” that year, 1940, adding a few lyrics of his own to provide more breadth. Within two years the song became a standard in gospel music, eventually becoming a standard in Jazz, and then moving into the realm of American folk music, known and sung by many (Boyer, 75).”

  2. cbsnews:

In a heated and contentious debate in the Oval Office last Monday morning, President Trump demanded the military put 10,000 active duty troops into the streets immediately, a senior administration official told CBS News. Attorney General William Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley objected to the demand, the official said.
In an attempt to satisfy Mr. Trump’s demand, Esper and Milley used a call with the nation’s governors later that morning to implore them to call up the National Guard in their own states, the official said.  If these governors didn’t “call up the Guard, we’d have (active duty) troops all over the country,” this official said.

  3. pogo, you’re right about george being dead on —  especially. considering the above about calling up the troops, with his op-ed concluding:

We remain governed by a soulless man with a broken mind. The damage will continue, and it won’t stop until voters end it. Come November, it will be up to the eligible human population of this country to look to their souls, their consciences, their humanity — and to cast their votes for one of their own.

as that gospel song jack gave us today would implore “jesus keep us from all wrong”

  4. here’s another version with mahalia jackson and louis armstrong

Recorded Live: 7/10/1970 – Newport Jazz Festival – Newport, RI

  5. Joe Biden has doubled his lead over Donald Trump in Michigan, poll says
Its all about the Electoral College as sadly we’ve learned over and over. I’m not sure what’s going on in Wisconsin and PA but last I looked Biden was polling ahead.👍

  6. flatus, hope you saw the good general on cnn’s state of the union this morning.  Gen Colin Powell pointed out people now see trump as dangerous.  he announced he will vote for biden.

  7. General Colin Powell endorses Joe Biden for pres and rips the fraud a new one.  Extraordinary interview CNN

  8. quote from raw story:

“That is dangerous for our democracy, it is dangerous for our country, and I think what we’re seeing now, those massive protest movements I have ever seen in my life. I think this suggests the country is getting wise to this and we’re not going to put up with it anymore,” he stated before calling the president “a liar.”

  9. video above is only part of the interview.   hope in days to come powell will be heard from more often in this same vein.

  10. I felt the same way when I heard Kelly talking about civic responsibility

  11. Wow, this story topping the headlines about protesters in Louisville protecting an isolated cop is amazing.  Great job to those five protesters.

  12. Thanks for the link, Jamie.

i’ll be happy to see Biden award those protestors with the Medal of Freedom.  They deserve it.

  13. Tony, your pics aren’t displaying fyi.  i wish i could tell you how to resolve it but i’m terrible with WordPress.  Jamie seems proficient, though, maybe she can help🤷‍♂️

Have a pleasant, peaceful, Bink-free rest of your day, people✌️❤️🇺🇸

  14. Jamie – I’m so glad to see that folks are putting up signs on the tyrant toddler’s baby gate.   Nobody respects him, though some fear him and his handler Pooh-tin.

  15. Jamie, good sign they’re putting up signs with a sense of humor.  one thing he hates is to be ridiculed and laughed at.    put some prayers from Nancy up on it to really get to him.    a few notable pics of him (like the one sprawled on the bed in his bathrobe – Ivanka teased about his favorite pink robe – or the wind-blown hair or the fatass golfer ones) enlarged and well situated on fence so that they’re in all photos taken of and by protestors & media.

  16. Jack,
When today’s beautiful selection cranked-up, all I could think of was 2-a.m. New Orleans. Well done, sir.

  17. For those who can’t place the melody Randy Rainbow is using, it is the song cut from the Wizard of Oz:  The Jitterbug

  18. “Pepper spray is not a chemical irritant. It’s not chemical”
AG bill barr uses only 100% pure Vegan pepper spray. It won’t harm the roses, when the revolutionaries storm the Tuilleries.

  19. The guy who invented the shit would beg to differ with Dr. Barr.  Wiki

Pepper spray was engineered into a weapons gradechemical agentby Kamran Loghman when he worked for the FBI in the 1980s. Loghman also wrote the guide for police departments on how it should be used. Afterpolice sprayed docile protestors at University of California in 2011, Loghman came to regret his work and said, “I have never seen such an inappropriate and improper use of chemical agents”.

    stupid fat asshole.

  20. Bink
Thanks. Yes, I’ve forgotten how to properly post Youtube videos. Yet I click on it goes right to it? I googled not much help.😋

  21. …click the rightward arrow under the youtube video you want to share, copy the link that generates, make a comment here and post it, then edit that comment and paste the link you copied into the comment editor, leaving the text.  Wordpress requires at least one text character to accompany an embedded video in a comment, for some reason🤷‍♂️

    Very intuitive, eh?

Oh, maybe that’s why your pics aren’t displaying. Try to edit them and add a period or a simple word.

  22. I copy the link above the video as it plays in YouTube, then go paste It in the comment and when some other bar pops up I click on the far right symbol and it disappears and the video shows in comments after clicking “post comment”.

Dont know how or why but it workies

  23. I think reorganizing police force by the duties makes a lot of sense.

  24. tony, another way to post a youtube song is to click “share” found in the list under the pic (usually above and to the right of title) then copy url and post it here.
