A growing number of Republican lawmakers are urging Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, a fellow Republican, to either provide evidence of the voting “irregularities” he has alleged or concede Tuesday’s election to Gov.-elect Andy Beshear, who defeated him by 5,189 votes.
“The best thing to do, the right thing to do, is for Governor Bevin to concede the election today so we can move on,” said Rep. Jason Nemes, R-Louisville.
Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, first raised the possibility of the tight election being decided by the Republican-led legislature Tuesday night when he explained the process that would occur if Bevin decided to challenge the results of the race. Bevin bolstered that speculation Wednesday by claiming that thousands of absentee ballots were counted illegally without presenting any proof to back up his claim.
Nemes said he has not seen much support for an election challenge among his Republican colleagues in the House, largely because the governor has not backed up his claims. None of the lawmakers the Herald-Leader spoke to Thursday said they had seen evidence to support Bevin’s claims.
Rep. John Blanton, R-Salyersville, is a former state police officer who said he has heard rumors of election problems but no hard evidence.
“The last thing anyone wants to do is overturn a constitutional election,” Blanton said. “We want the will of the people to be done.”
House Republicans have had a rocky relationship with Bevin since they gained control of the chamber in 2016. Often, it was the GOP-led House that blocked Bevin’s policy priorities, such as a funding mechanism for charter schools and more aggressive reforms to the pension system.
In a statement, House Speaker David Osborne, R-Prospect, said the House will play no role in the election unless Bevin files a complaint. So far, Bevin has only asked for a recanvass, which requires county officials to check the results from every voting machine and recount absentee ballots.

At a moment when a stream of political appointees and career public servants have testified before Congress about Trump’s conduct as part of the House impeachment inquiry, the book’s author defends his or her decision to remain anonymous.
“I have decided to publish this anonymously because this debate is not about me,” the author writes. “It is about us. It is about how we want the presidency to reflect our country, and that is where the discussion should center. Some will call this ‘cowardice.’ My feelings are not hurt by the accusation. Nor am I unprepared to attach my name to criticism of President Trump. I may do so, in due course.”

Leaves from the myriad trees in Kumcho’s forest are seriously dropping with today’s chilly Autumn breeze. I’m glad that I relocated our hanging plants to the garage the other day. The garage is climate controlled because Rosie is quartered there.

Flatus, hope your fall is a better one color wise than ours was. We saw almost no red due to (I’m told) the dry, warm conditions extending through October followed by heavy rain & wind last weekend – and into the 20s overnight this week (Brrr). For the first year I can remember my (goddamned) gingko tree dropped all of its leaves in a 3 day period. It usually takes a couple of weeks to do that. Not sure what that means regarding climate change if anything, but as the old saying about fall and winter goes, “You can’t fool the trees.”

My ginko always drops its leaves in one day. It is what I like about it. Where as My neighbors pin oak sheds all winter. On good years when the ginko turns colors it is a brilliant bright gold. But the last few years it hasn’t been turning and is still green when a hard freeze hits. With a freeze it drops all its leaves no matter the color. That was last week and I have been going out and removing the mat of leaves from the grass before they smother the grass.

Bink, my Ginkgo is a big one – about 3′ in diameter and the tallest tree in the yard, or at least about the tallest – being as tall as the Eastern White Pines (2-3′ in diameter) near it. When it drops its leaves it is an utter bitch to get them mulched. They dropped before turning yellow this year- they usually drop a a mix of green and yellow. Maybe some nitrogen will leach into the soil and help me get rid of the bare spots.
Jack, just saw that you’re a fellow ginkgo owner. Truth is, aside from the one to two weeks it takes me to get the leaves dealt with I like the tree – it’s the tallest and greenest tree in the yard so it commands respect.
Last time I raked leaves my beard fell off.

I can tell all the way from over here in MN that Messers Bink and Pogo have male ginko trees. I am slightly acquainted with a female ginko, and I assure you, the slighter the acquaintanceship the better.
When I am Queen-for-a-Day, I will start by outlawing leaf blowers. I have seen the landscapers outside my office, all with leaf blowers, stand on either side of the hedge and push the leaves around for 20 minutes.
It’s kind of how problems are never really handled by our elected officials.
The smell is terrible, too.

I raked as a lad. My hands never fit the handle, either. The blisters would break and weep on a good day. On a bad day they also bled. If it weren’t for the stinging, I’d have been bored stupid. My old man thought this activity built character. I didn’t want to become a character, although it happened to me just as planned. Today, I watch the leaf vacuumers zoom past. In a half hour they can do what took me an entire Saturday and Sunday. I am glad that humanity is being rescued by this march of technology, but I wonder what the world will be like when males are no longer raised to be bloody eccentrics.
