Festive Festivus Felicities

The Buffalo Festivus Chorale was established in 1949 on the lower West Side of Buffalo to help celebrate and promote the accomplishments of the Festivite community. The Chorale was active giving performances throughout Buffalo until the mid-1960’s when much of the Festivite community emigrated to other parts of the country where they would not be persecuted for their beliefs . This historic recording was discovered at an estate sale in Cheektowaga, and digitally restored by Tea With Warriors in 2011.

  1. on this eve eve of Hanukkah and Christmas, we revive the annual observance of another tradition by retelling it’s not-so-ancient origin:

It’s that time of year, so we’re embracing our roots and looking back at why we celebrate this Festivus for the rest of us!

  2. more Festivus caroling

    and

Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season! There’s airing of grievances, the feats of strength, an aluminum pole, Meatloaf dinner on a bed of lettuce, and so much more! Come one, come all! A FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US!

  3. Time to review American history back to the late fourteen hundreds.  Spain takes big chunks of the American continents.  France takes big chunks of North America. Other countries take smaller bites to set up their flags.  Native Americans are enslaved or killed, their chunk of the Americas is taken over.
As the various countries barter, fight and make decisions about the continents, the current residents decide they like the place and want it for themselves.  Here is where things get real interesting.  Seventeen hundreds, locals kick out others and make a country.  Those kicked out are not happy with how it is all going and return for the War of 1812.

This is where sfb goes and decides that instead of England having Canada, it should be a state.  Eh?  Looks good to me.

Next up and the Spanish American War and the U.S. takes a lot of Spanish seaside properties.  A low intelligence, fool, decides he wants it back after the U.S. has given the locals their countries back; sort of a modern version of being a good neighbor.  Stupid wants a canal that is running out of water.  The idiot already as spread the idea of invading our neighbor to the south, maybe he is going for the whole middle of the continent.  Will he go for the Philippines next?

“ABSENT GOP CONGRESSWOMAN FOUND IN ASSISTED LIVING HOME: REPORT
Rep. Kay Granger has not cast a single vote in Congress since late July”

“Republican Rep. Kay Granger, who has missed 100 percent of votes in the House since July 24, has been in an assisted living and memory care home, according to a report. Her staff denies that she is in memory care, with communications director Valerie Nelson telling Rolling Stone via email, “Kay Granger is not in Memory Care.”

“Nelson also shared a statement from the congresswoman, who said she has been experiencing “unforeseen health challenges over the past year”…

“Staff writer Carlos Turcios wrote in The Dallas Express that he “received a tip from a Granger constituent who shared that the Congresswoman has been residing at a local memory care and assisted living home for some time after having been found wandering lost and confused in her former Cultural District/West 7th neighborhood.” So he began to look for Granger.”

Joe Biden has commuted the sentences of 37 out of 40 federal death row inmates, changing their punishment to life imprisonment without parole.

The decision follows mounting pressure from campaigners who warned that the president-elect, Donald Trump, backs the death penalty and restarted federal executions during his first term after a 17-year hiatus.

“In a rare joint statement, the archivist and deputy archivist of the United States said Tuesday that the 1970s-era Equal Rights Amendment cannot be certified without further action by Congress or the courts, as Democrats press President Joe Biden to act unilaterally on its ratification before he leaves office next month.”

    Gripey Festivus!

  7. Had a nice weekend with Mrs. P – went to the Pittsburgh Symphony’s Christmas show – very enjoyable – (I could have left at intermission and been happy – Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus was next to last 1st half piece.  And now it’s Festivus.  And if the committee investigating Gaetz doesn’t wimp out, I’ll have a terrific birthday present – reading that what we all think is probably true is – that Gaetz was a drug/alcohol fueled perv. (And contrary to what I was taught in my graduate school days, most people do not change).

  8. WaPo:

House Ethics report says Matt Gaetz regularly paid for sex, including payment to an underage girl

The former congressman regularly paid for sex, possessed illegal drugs and paid a 17-year-old girl for sex in 2017, according to a 42-page report released by the House Ethics Committee on Monday on President-elect Donald Trump’s former pick for attorney general.

The report cited “substantial evidence” that from 2017 to 2020, Gaetz “regularly paid women for engaging in sexual activity with him,” and from 2017 to 2019, possessed illegal drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, on “multiple different occasions.” The Ethics Committee also investigated a 2018 trip Gaetz made to the Bahamas where the panel found he accepted transportation and lodging in violation of the House rules and laws on gifts.

The GOP-led committee concluded in the document that Gaetz “violated House Rules, state and federal laws, and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, acceptance of impermissible gifts, the provision of special favors and privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”

The committee’s release of the hotly anticipated report, which came three days after Congress adjourned for the holidays Friday evening, reversed an earlier decision not to make public the results of its investigation. The report is the culmination of years-long scrutiny surrounding Gaetz and the allegations against him. The panel wrote that Gaetz was “uncooperative” throughout its review and found that he “knowingly and willfully sought to impede and obstruct the Committee’s investigation of his conduct.”

It also concluded that he misused House resources when he employed his then-chief of staff to “assist a woman with whom he engaged in sexual activity in obtaining a passport, falsely indicating to the U.S. Department of State that she was a constituent.”

Did anyone actually think the House committee would come up with a different conclusion?

  9. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/elon-musk-security-clearance-putin-b2665462.html

“Elon Musk’s drug use and Putin ties has stopped SpaceX to avoid asking for higher security clearance: report
Sources told The Wall Street Journal that Musk’s drug use and contact with foreign nationals could lead to his existing security clearance being revoked if he attempts to upgrade it”

“The revelation follows a bombshell report by the Journal in October alleging that Musk has been in regular contact with Vladimir Putin since late 2022, on top of previous reports claiming that he had used ketamine multiple times.”

“Since 2022 Musk has enjoyed a “top secret” security clearance, which is the highest general-purpose permission bestowed by the US Department of Defense. But it does not include special “need to know” clearances for specific projects (known as “sensitive compartmented information”).

So, he got top secret clearance in 2022, and has had regular contact with Putin since late 2022. Hmmm. Maybe Santa will give him a extra-strong batch of K for Xmas.

  10. BB, an unanswered question for me is whether the FBI investigated at all.  There was some evidence – enough to convince a committee with a majority of Repubs on it to issue a report that would be potentially career ending for ol’ Matt, and after they lost jurisdiction to pursue it in the House, to release the report publicly.  Common to cases with a high embarrassment index, the witnesses are often not very cooperative or willing to step into the glare of the spotlights.

And lo and behold, the frigid weekend has given way to sunshine and temps in the 40s.  Happy days.

  11. Denmark has responded on twit (no more links to twit) that they have no interest in selling Greenland to sfb.  There was also a hint that they would consider kicking the U.S. out of Greenland.  Thule AFB is a major U.S. military site; it has been renamed something else, but most of us know it as Thule.
