Sunday Serendipity

A very special treat for today. She goes by the name Samara Joy, with a voice that is mesmerizing. As one critic put it “it is like they wrapped Sarah Vaughn and Ella all up in one body.” She is only 25 years old.

Youtube turned me on to her “Warm in December” and I had to have more. I have put together a playlist of 5 of her Christmas songs, every one is a gem.

Buy her albums, go see her live. Music this good needs to be supported

  1. Thanks, Jack, just the right background music for cookie baking day. it’s also good for what’s expected to be a darkish rainy day here in the boonies. …    snuggly stuff to accompany a cup of hot cider while waiting between batches.

  2. might be an understatement to say SNL from last night sorta lacked the joyful touch of the holiday season, but here ’tis anyway:

Nancy Grace (Sarah Sherman) reports on the latest crime stories.

  3. weekend update was a little better but that’s faint praise. however, colin’s line about DOTUS being named person of the year (go to 1:44 minuets in) was pretty clever.

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week’s biggest news, like a mysterious drone crashing into a New Jersey backyard.

  4. jack – Thanks!  Her “Let’s Dream In The Moonlight”is one of my faves. Didn’t know she had a Christmas album.  Just added it to my winter playlist which is now 53 hours and 37 minutes long.

In the Trump administration you are over qualified. You actually have 3 brain cells that work. A total disqualification.

  6. I thought the drones were swarming in New Jersey?
(insert your favorite New Jersey joke here)

  7. Love the Sunday Morning penguins.  Seeing them always reminds me of an excellent, fun read:  Penguins Have Square Eyes by Patrick Trese.

  8. https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/14/europe/syria-europe-refugees-migration-intl/index.html

“Amid uncertainty over the future of Syria’s government, Britain – along with Germany, Austria, Ireland and a host of other European countries – said they would suspend decisions on Syrian asylum claims. Austria also said it would look at deporting people back to Syria.”

“It was a sudden response that those governments said was necessary to take stock of a rapidly changing situation in the country. But it unsettled much of Syria’s huge diaspora in Europe, particularly those with outstanding asylum claims or who did not gain citizenship in their adopted countries. More than a million Syrians live across the continent, many of them arriving amid the 2015 migrant crisis that broke out as a result of the country’s civil war.”

“And it comes just as governments across Europe harden their stances on migration in an effort to quell surging support for populist and far-right forces, who have linked increases in migration to the availability of housing, health care and public services.”

“No women will lead House committees for first time in 2 decades”

“The 17 standing committees, whose leaders were selected by the House Republican Steering Committee, will be dominated by white menwhen the new Congress is seated on Jan. 3. No people of color were selected, either.”

“Very fitting in the MAGA Era – No Women Need Apply,” former Virginia Rep. Barbara Comstock, a Republican, posted ahead of the final selections.
