JD didn’t exactly seem comfortable ordering donuts.  Whatever makes sense? It’s donuts.   Our Aspergery associate orders donuts, and it isn’t really all that challenging.

Rebounding from a recent losing streak, the Guardians went into a losing streak, then won a few straight games, then began a win one-lose one streak.  Fatigue is unavoidable.  The bats go silent for days, then explode.  It’s a slog, MLB.  And so is a campaign.  We are coming off the sugar-high of an incredible convention, and we are confident.  But are the fence-sitters going to follow, can we sustain the enthusiasm?  We know we must or we’ll have Trump back, and that cannot happen.  This is why pols and political junkies are screaming at us to DO SOMETHING, to get the word out, to explain to folks who are jaded and hardened against politics that this election is so important all stops must be pulled and we must find our second wind and not let up , not on weekends, not during working hours, never at all until the polls close.  Then we can collectively and figuratively pour a glass of Wild Turkey 101, light up a fine cigar, and watch state after state turn Blue.  In reality, I’ll have a tumbler of straight diet soda but my JOY will be the same.

I’d be surprised if JD was optioned back to Silicon Valley.  Bobby as veep would be throwing a wrench into the works.
Yeah, when I started going to weekend games at what was then Jacobs Field , I became mesmerized by the Guardians of Traffic on Hope Memorial Bridge.  That is why I was elated to hear the new name was to be Guardians.  To see them as you slowly cross the bridge is amazing.  Also, I was stared down by a Native American 28 years ago as I entered the stadium  during a protest against Chief Wahoo, the logo of the Cleveland Indians. I could see through his eyes into his soul.  I knew the Indians name had to go.  No joke, as Joe says.

Steinbeck: Only one brave and beautiful boy of ten named Andy from Salinas ever crossed the old Chinaman. Andy was visiting in Monterey and he saw the old man and knew he must shout at him if only to keep his self-respect, but even Andy, brave as he was, felt the little cloud of fear. Andy watched him go by evening after evening while his duty and his terror wrestled. And then one evening Andy braced himself and marched behind the old man singing in a shrill falsetto, “Ching-Chong Chinaman sitting on a rail–‘ Long came a white man an’ chopped off his tail.” The old man stopped and turned. Andy stopped. The deep-brown eyes looked at Andy and the thin corded lips moved. What happened then Andy was never able either to explain or to forget. For the eyes spread out until there was no Chinaman. And then it was one eye–one huge brown eye as big as a church door. Andy looked through the shiny transparent brown door and through it he saw a lonely countryside, flat for miles but ending against a row of fantastic mountains shaped like cows’ and dogs’ heads and tents and mushrooms. There was low coarse grass on the plain and here and there a little mound. And a small animal like a woodchuck sat on each mound. And the loneliness-the desolate cold aloneness of the landscape made Andy whimper because there wasn’t anybody at all in the world and he was left.… Read more »

You mean  a pre-CBS, real McCoy one?   That’s a lotta cash on that neighborhood, but I maintain it’s the onliest way to have a strat.   The knock-offs, and post CBSs etc are good guitars but the only real one is a real one.

2004 is vintage these days

a bunch of people spent their stimulus check on guitars they didn’t learn how to play so there are some deals out there

like i said before, rich people shit inflated by huge factors, $25k+ guitars are the height of late-stage hypercapitalism

“relic-ing” is the craft of making a new guitar look exactly like yours, you can pay thousands for a new guitar that looks old

that might be a semester or two of college for the grandkid in that case, i’m sure you’re aware, you’ll get max value in the NYC market, don’t take it to a dealer

provenance that it shared a stage with famous musicians would add to its value

that place on Bleeker street would
know, they eat that shit up

a clean fretboard and a worn body means that axe was wielded properly 🫡

RFK Jr. Was My Drug Dealer

Kennedy’s endorsement of Donald Trump raises an awkward question.

ByKurt Andersen But Donald Trump and Bobby Kennedy—as I’ve referred to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. since we met freshman year at Harvard—have always had many features in common as well. Both are entitled playboy sons of northeastern wealth; both (in Michelle Obama’s words) were “afforded the grace of failing forward” as misbehaving, underachieving adolescents admitted to Ivy League colleges thanks to “the affirmative action of generational wealth”; both were reckless lifelong adolescents, both attention-craving philanderers and liars, both jerks. And Kennedy’s hour-long speech today was nearly as meandering and filled with lies as any average hour of Trump.
On the subject of reckless-adolescent entitlement, I’ve got one Bobby Kennedy anecdote to tell. But it’s actually relevant to his endorsement of Donald Trump for president and his apparent expectation of joining a second Trump administration.
In Kennedy’s speech today, he spoke at length about federal pharmaceutical regulation and programs addressing chronic disease. “I’m going to change that,” he said, promising to “staff” the health agencies very differently. “Within four years, America will be a healthy country … if President Trump is elected and honors his word.” Trump, he added, “has told me that he wants this to be his legacy.”
My Bobby Kennedy story involves pharmaceuticals—not the legal, lifesaving kind, such as the vaccines he’s made a career of lying about, but the recreational kind.

Last month I woke up to a seeming bite mark and large rash on my arm, probably by something in my back yard. I had no recollection of a bite or sting. My doctor put me on antibiotic as a precaution against Lyme disease. I never got any other symptoms, the rash is gone but the bite mark is still there.

Love Botha them Fenders, Sturg. Obvious from the tele’s fretboard it’s the preferred of the 2.

Bink, LP has a 2004ish strat deluxe. 2 tone sunburst. Nice guitar. He paid $1k for it new. Used they’re up to the $2500 range. I think the only thing deluxe about it is gold toned tuners. Paul’s Boutique at Reverb has a nice looking one for $1200. That would be a great catch if it’s playable.

“An Iranian hacker group targeted the WhatsApp accounts of individuals associated with the administrations of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, Meta announced Friday.”

“This malicious activity originated in Iran and attempted to target individuals in Israel, Palestine, Iran, the United States and the UK,” the social media giant said in a statement, noting that the effort primarily focused on “political and diplomatic officials, and other public figures, including some associated with administrations of President Biden and former President Trump.”

Coal Baron a No-Show in Alabama Courtroom as Abandoned Plant Continues to Pollute Neighborhoods
The son of West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice was hailed as a hero five years ago when his family’s company purchased a troubled coke plant in North Birmingham that had polluted three historically Black neighborhoods. Now, a judge says the Justices’ Bluestone Coke is on a “superhighway to contempt.”
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Chief U.S. District Judge David Proctor is fed up.
“I’m not fooling around anymore,” Proctor said Wednesday in a federal court hearing in Birmingham. “This has gotten past the point of any good faith in this case.”
But the target of Proctor’s ire is not around to hear it.
Jay Justice—son of West Virginia governor and now U.S. Senate candidate Jim Justice—was a no-show at a federal court hearing Wednesday in a Clean Water Act lawsuit over pollution from a long-idled coking plant in north Birmingham.
In the hearing, Proctor scolded Bluestone Coke, the plant’s owner, and Justice, the company’s president, for “thumbing their nose” at the court.
“What’s even more significant than a pattern?” Proctor asked the courtroom when considering the defense’s conduct. “This has permeated every aspect of this case.”

Question: Where is the alleged 5% of RFKJ voters located?   Any/all swing states?   I know he’s on the  ballot in NC and other swing states, but he got on those ballots before the baby bear story, and before the brain worms  story?   (Before Harris, too.) Has his support eroded because he now seems  unhinged to folks who thought his conspiracy theories were…hinged?

https://apnews.com/article/utah-ballot-measures-voting-rights-b01900725e0e4979d111e4455a0f1747

“Utah’s Republican-controlled Legislature will ask voters in November to relinquish some of their rights to lawmakers who want the ability to change state ballot measures after they’ve passed.”

“Frustrated by a recent state Supreme Court ruling, lawmakers called a special session Wednesday in which both chambers swiftly approved an amendment to Utah’s constitution that would grant them greater power over citizen initiatives. The Legislature used its broadly worded emergency powers to hold the session.”

“If a majority of Utah voters approves the amendment this fall, it would give lawmakers constitutional authority to significantly rewrite voter-approved ballot measures or repeal them entirely.”

“Democrats decried the decision as a “power grab,” while Republicans argued it would be dangerous to have certain laws on the books that cannot be substantially changed.”
