How can someone so obviously nuts be tied in the polls?

I doubt even Dean Phillips was thinking about himself at 1:26AM!

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Dean Phillips, who just “quit” in his hapless campaign against Crooked Joe Biden, was not very good at his craft, politics. In fact, I would say that he was far worse than the Republican challengers to me, with a few exceptions. I’ll give you those names if you like, but I’d rather get down to the serious business of defeating the worst President in the history of the United States, by far, Crooked Joe Biden!!! For the good of our now failing Nation, and in order to inform the American people of what is going on in our Country, we must immediately have a full scale debate between Crooked Joe and Honest Don. I’m ready to go, ANY TIME, ANY PLACE!

OSCARS: Behind the scenes debate over reading Trump tweet

Variety: About 10 minutes before the show ended, one of Kimmel’s writers ran over and showed him something Donald Trump had just posted on Truth Social, ranting about the “boring” show. Kimmel decided to read the former President’s review verbatim — and Executive Producer Molly McNearney (who, by the way, is also Kimmel’s wife) admits she tried to talk him out of it.

“I will tell you, I’m really not proud of this, but I tried to talk Jimmy out of reading that,” she says. “I feel like my instincts are usually right, but I was totally off on that. I said, ‘Please don’t read this.’ And he asked why. I said, ‘I don’t want to give Trump airtime in the Oscars. This is the one time we don’t have to talk about him. We talk about him every night… This night is not about him and it’s not about politics. My second thought was just the risk, like the show was going well! I just wanted to make sure it ended well, and I didn’t want it to end on a sour note.”

McNearney adds, “But he had a glimmer in his eye, and he said, ‘I got this.’ He really did. This is where he shines.”

Kimmel huddled with his writers, and he came up with the retort: “Isn’t it past your jail time?” It killed in the room, and McNearney notes that Kimmel’s instinct was right. “I will tell you, I’m never going to win an argument in my household again!” she says.

On thread post topic — it’s hard to believe, but despite the overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that trickle-down economics is a myth, we’re about to hear it all over again from defenders of low taxes for the wealthy against Biden’s hikes for corporations and earners over $400,000. Since the Reagan days all we’ve seen is how cutting taxes for the rich ONLY helps the rich, no one else — and they ALWAYS explode the deficit. No exceptions.

Robert De Niro let tRUMPsky have it last night on Kimmel’s show.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/robert-de-niro-donald-trump_n_65f027b5e4b02ad7de1a3868

De Niro, smiling, replied: “He’s so fucking stupid.”

When it [audience laughter and applause] finally died down, De Niro went on, “I mean, look at the lame, inane things that he says. He’s so stupid he can’t even say anything clever. He’s a fucking moron.”
“But he’s a scary one,” he added, “and in all seriousness, and we know it here, people have to get out and vote and vote and vote and vote.”

And the audience applauded and laughed bigly, again.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4521307-robert-de-niro-slams-trump-as-total-monster/

The guy is a total monster… I don’t understand it,” DeNiro said Friday on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher, referring to polls that show the GOP front-runner leading President Biden, adding that Trump is “such a mean, nasty, hateful person.”

Nothing,” DeNiro told Maher. “Nothing at all, nothing redeemable in him.”

“There’ll be things that happen that none of us can imagine,” he said Friday. “That’s what happens in that kind of a dictatorship, which is what he says. Let’s believe and take him at his word.”

“So he’s a sociopathic, psychopathic, malignant narcissist,” he added. “He is a dangerous person.”

Trump hit back Saturday in a post on Truth Social, calling the actor’s comments “stupid.”

Ah, so that’s why Adolf sent the lame comment about De Niro that Kimmel read last night.

“Robert DeNiro has a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” he wrote. “Such a stupid sounding guy, a low IQ individual!”

Didn’t tRUMPsky just actually admit to being deranged himself?

The comedian suspected Biden’s campaign might not be too fazed by the moniker.

https://cwa-union.org/stock-buybacks-hurt-workers

“One of the most glaring examples of corporate greed we face is the rise of stock buybacks. Over the last decade, instead of investing in employee compensation and new infrastructure, companies have put 94% of their profits into stock buybacks and dividends. The increasing financialization of the economy is only made worse by these buybacks, and results in corporations squeezing as much profit as they can out of their employees. At the end of the day, workers see a decrease in their bargaining power and a dramatic rise in income inequality, all in the name of maximizing “shareholder value”.

This needs to be on the regular, old news so folks see it, hear it, and ingest it.

blueINdallas

http://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-buybacks-pay/

Example:
“When health insurer Humana Inc reported worse-than-expected quarterly earnings in late 2014 – including a 21 percent drop in net income – it softened the blow by immediately telling investors it would make a $500 million share repurchase.”
“In addition to soothing shareholders, the surprise buyback benefited the company’s senior executives. It added around two cents to the company’s annual earnings per share, allowing Humana to surpass its $7.50 EPS target by a single cent and unlocking higher pay for top managers under terms of the company’s compensation agreement.”

“As corporate America engages in an unprecedented buyback binge, soaring CEO pay tied to short-term performance measures like EPS is prompting criticism that executives are using stock repurchases to enrich themselves at the expense of long-term corporate health, capital investment and employment.”

Let’s just say her name recognition is at an all-time high.
Britt, during her GOP rebuttal to Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, spent so much time (with so many weird voices) trying to play a string of roles that she never let America see the qualities other people keep telling me she has.
That’s my problem with Britt. From the time she began to campaign people who knew her said she was different, that she was reasonable, smart, real. She just had to sound unreasonable to win the election.
My response has always been the same: “You are who you pretend to be.”
It’s really too bad that her venture onto the national stage went so badly. For it will encourage her to seek solace and support from those who are giving it: the most extreme elements of her party. She will inevitably become more Marjorie Taylor Greene and less Richard Shelby. And that, I think, is a sad devolution.
You become, as I said, what you pretend to be.

RR – I have my big boat at a marina in a county in Virginia which taxes boats as personal property. It based on purchase price and stays the same as long as the property is in Virginia in January of each year.  One year as I was dropping my payment envelope in the drop box at the country court house the tax man drove up and parked.  We had not talked for about a year and it was nice to catch up on things with him.  He thanked me for paying my taxes.  My response surprised him, a lot. “I am happy to pay my taxes. I use the county roads, the county services and more. No government can function without these taxes. I am happy to pay them.”  He could just keep saying “thank you”.  The county is one of the deepest red magat counties in the country so he gets a lot of anti-tax yacking from the locals.

Adam Schiff did a nice job of cutting through the BS.  Wapo:

In one of the toughest exchanges at the hearing so far, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) excoriated former special counsel Robert Hur for issuing a “deeply prejudicial” report that hurt President Biden’s political standing by suggesting his mental faculties were failing.
“You were not born yesterday; you understood exactly what you were doing,” Schiff said. “You cannot tell me you’re so naive to think your words would not have created a political firestorm.”

Incensed, Hur fired back, “What I understood is the regulations,” referring to the part of Justice Department policy that says special counsel reports to the attorney general should be confidential. But the last two such reports were released publicly, and Attorney General Merrick Garland had made clear beforehand that he would do his best to release as much of Hur’s report as possible.

Schiff met that answer with disbelief and scorn.
“You must have understood the impact of your words,” the congressman said, accusing the prosecutor of injecting “your own personal, prejudicial, subjective opinion of the president, one you knew would be amplified by his political opponent. You had to understand that, and you did it anyway.”

“Congressman, what you are suggesting is that I shape, sanitize, omit portions of my reasoning …”

Schiff was having none of it.

“You made a choice. That was a political choice; it was the wrong choice,” he said.

Good work Adam.

Colorado law requires the Governor to set the date of the special election no less than 85 days and no more than 100 days after the date the vacancy occurs. Not a good sign for Trump in the general election — losing 70,000 Georgia Republicans (14%) to Nikki Haley in a primary after she dropped out– in a state you only lost by 11,000 last time. Despite being a ghost Haley is getting 30% in Atlanta suburbs like Cobb County (Gingrich’s old district), 45% in Dekalb County, 25% in Savannah. Hard to imagine these Republicans showing up for Trump in November if they’re voting against him when he’s the only GOP candidate running. Georgia might be doable for Biden again.

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/03/12/texas-randy-weber-house-freedom-caucus/

“U.S. Rep. Randy Weber kicked out of House Freedom Caucus”

“The Texas Republican said it wasn’t so much a lack of interest as a dislike for the “burn the house down” procedural tactics the rightmost flank has come to be known for. In response, Weber said Good told him he’d need to reapply for admission back into the caucus.”

“It was a shock because I’ve disagreed with some of the Freedom Caucus chairs … but I’ve never had them tell me you need to get out of the Freedom Caucus,” Weber told The Texas Tribune.

“Weber was a Freedom Caucus member for nearly a decade. He said he has seen the group shift from being party rabble-rousers to playing a major hand in holding up budget fights and forcing an unprecedented Speaker election last year. The rightmost flank holds more weight now given House Republicans’ razor-thin majority, dangling the threat of a motion to vacate or a government shutdown if leadership doesn’t concede to their hardline demands.”
