Taking Offense or Taking the Offensive?

Attribution: Society of the Offended by Dave Whamond, Canada, PoliticalCartoons.com

Are they really offended or is it an excuse to take the offensive?

Seems the latter these days in garnering the political spotlight considering this definition from the Free Dictionary: To begin attacking someone or adopting an aggressive attitude or position as a means of gaining a pre-emptive advantage.

It’s the false outrage of the outrageous.

Reminds me of what we used to call “butthurt” in the early blogging days: “an excessive or unjustifiable feeling of personal offense or resentment”

Another mind twist is Trump claiming he’s the one trying to defend Democracy

“Generally, the idea is that proactivity (a strong offensive action) instead of a passive attitude will preoccupy the opposition and ultimately hinder its ability to mount an opposing counterattack, leading to a strategic advantage.”

“One of the most common reasons people take offense is insecurity. Insecurities are based on one’s self-concept, ideas and feelings about self.”

Movie of the Week:     “Freaks”

“Because of its controversial content, the film was banned in the United Kingdom for over 30 years, and was labelled as “brutal and grotesque” in Canada.”

Reminds me of a chapter in Craig’s book about passive-aggression, in this case, being more aggressive.

BREAKING: Donald Trump’s businesses received at least $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments during his presidency, according to new documents released by House Democrats — most of it came from China.

The Magats I-know-and-love still won’t care. If Chinese and others were scared enough of Plumpty to bribe and buy him off, that’s probably a good thing (in their book.)

Another day, another school shooting.    In Iowa.  Will it matter to Iowans when they caucus this month.  GQP, so probably not.

Illinois has joined the 14th fray.
Looks like the SCOTUS got ‘em a bit of the old sticky wicket with that pesky 14th amendment.  It’s written out there in plain English without any wiggle room for “interpretation”.   That’s going to require a lot of Footsy Fantwork to figure out how to corrupt that one.

When is an insurrection NOT an insurrection?

The acid test would seem to be:
Feces smeared on the walls?
DEFINITELY an insurrection.

Illinois is remembering the Maine.

As goes Maine, so goes [the state that touches the southwest corner of Lake Michigan in the upper midwest of] the country.

https://www.npr.org/2024/01/04/1218672628/the-trump-campaign-embraces-jan-6-rioters-with-money-and-pardon-promises

“An NPR review of social media posts, speeches and interviews found that Trump has made calls to “free” Jan. 6 defendants or promised to issue them presidential pardons more than a dozen times. Trump has said he would issue those pardons on “day one” of his presidency, as part of a broader agenda to use presidential power to exact “retribution” against his opponents and deliver “justice” for his supporters.”

“We’ll be looking very, very seriously at full pardons,” Trump told an interviewer in 2022. “I mean full pardons with an apology to many.”

“LET THE JANUARY 6 PRISONERS GO,” Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, in March 2023.

He continues to give comfort to those convicted of seditious conspiracy and other offenses on January 6th, therefore, he continues to violate Article 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Another Thursday is nearing an end, but with many new questions are bubbling up to the top of the pot; a few might think it is less the smooth surface than the covering grey scum.  What is sfb croaks for some reason, your choice: disease; chocking on a drumstick; chocking on a burger and fries; OD on “medication”; fall down stairs; fall over edge of stage; BP blow up heart; stroke out; puttie gives him tea; a mix of these.  What do the maga do when their criminal leader is on the cold steel table opened up and samples taken? Right now his real world is invading his alternate universe in a major way.  Who knows what will happen when real reality crushes in?
Edit: I purposely did not add him croaking from external causes, other than russia being tired of his act. Puttie has knocked off more important (to them) people, as recent as last week. That is why I added him.

bId – the greedy old perverts have been purposely doing things like this on MLK day.  They are very nasty and slimey people.

I do not remember (yet) what it was I saw Glynnis Johns in that I became a fan of hers.  This was sometime in the middle Sixties.  Whatever it was I did search for movies and television shows and hoping those would be broadcast, no streaming back then.  RIP to another wonderful actor.

The only film I actually remember seeing Glynis Johns in was Mary Poppins.  I’m sure I saw her in others , but none spring to mind.  She was a remarkable talent by all accounts. I suspect I saw her in some of her earlier films – I was a bit of a classic films lover while I was in college, and am pretty sure I saw 49th Parallel, although I can’t say that with certainty.

“I know these things can be used to try to target things, and a lot of the things that are proposed would not have even prevented any of these things,” DeSantis continued. “People can count on me to hold criminals accountable, be very serious about holding accountable people that represent a danger to society, but at the same time protecting their constitutional rights.”

“Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley also reacted to the shooting Thursday as well, saying in a post on X that “no parent, student, or teacher should have to wake up and face news about a school shooting.” “My heart aches for the victims of Perry, Iowa and the entire community,” she wrote.

RonDuh wants to axe the IRS in favor of a flat tax.  ~Thanks, Steve Forbes.~  We’ve been through this before.  It’s regressive. If Todd makes 1,000 and  pays 10%, it’s harder to make it to the next paycheck than Terry who makes 2,000 less 10%.

I would love Bezos, Musk, and Suckerburg, etc., to pay taxes.
