I planned an unscheduled trip to Capitol Hill this afternoon to meet the families fighting to pass burn pits legislation. A positive COVID test got in the way, but I want to thank

for bringing pizza in my place and connecting me with the families via FaceTime.

Proud to bring pizza from @POTUS to the Vets camping out at the Capitol until the Senate passes the PACT Act. These heroes fought for our country—they shouldn’t have to fight for health care, too. The Senate must pass the PACT Act now. twitter.com/burnpit360/sta…

  2. the hill:

Biden said on the FaceTime call that the country has a “sacred obligation” to care for those who go into war and care for them and their families after they return. He said opposing the legislation is “despicable,” and he has to believe that the bill’s opponents are “going to make up for the mistake they made.”

  3. Johann wrote a lot of great music, as did the whole family.  A day long drive with the Bachs music is an easy drive.

The cult that took over the republican party have spent the last couple of months working hard at hurting those who voted for them.  Will it be enough to make them not vote, or vote Democratic?  We will see in a few weeks.

  4. so too caring for people/soldiers but in a more urgent and serious way Zelenskyy pleaded in his latest daily address to his countrymen:

… motivation now for all our people who still remain in Donbas, in the areas of the fiercest fighting. There are hundreds of thousands of people, tens of thousands of children… Many of people refuse to leave… But it really needs to be done. This decision will still have to be made. Anyway! Believe me.
And the sooner it is done, the more people leave Donetsk region now, the fewer people the Russian army will have time to kill.
Therefore, if you have the opportunity, please talk to those who still remain in the combat zones in Donbas. Please convince them that it is necessary to leave, especially if they are families with children. If you have the opportunity to help displaced people, do it.
There is a government decision on mandatory evacuation from Donetsk region, everything is being organized. Full support, full assistance – both logistical and payments. We only need a decision from the people themselves, who have not yet made it for themselves. Go, we will help.
We are not Russia. That is why every life is important for us. And we will use all available opportunities to save as many lives as possible and to limit Russian terror as much as possible.
At this stage of the war, terror is the main weapon for Russia. And that is why the main task of every Ukrainian, every defender of freedom and humanity in the world is to do everything to isolate the terrorist state and to protect as many people as possible from Russian attacks.

Zelensky urges Donbas residents to evacuate, calls on US to legally recognize Russia as terrorist state | The Hill

The Senate unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday urging Secretary of State Antony Blinken to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

  5. jack, for some insane reason my first tho’t on that lovely string concerto was the picture of a bunch of cats — must have been an unconscious hearing of the cat gut strings calling me.

here’s a different rendition of bach feline style:

    J.S. Bach: Cello Suite No.1 – Cats & Friends Choir – YouTube

The Cats & Friends Choir is extremely excited to present their third recording: the Suite No.1 in G Major for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. Focusing on the choir’s sopranos (kittens) and altos (cats), this interpretation presents a soloistic approach to the choir while keeping the basses (cows) at rest during a temporary recovery period.

  6. WaPo on the WV misogyny bill.

The proposed law would bar nearly all abortions, with narrow exceptions, including for pregnant people who face life-threatening complications, and for victims of rape or incest, so long as they report their assault.

Democrats in the Senate slammed Republicans for pushing the bill forward so quickly, calling the special session a “slow-moving train wreck.”

Other than mixing metaphors the few remaining Democrats are right. Assholians run amok.

  7. The GQP must wanna push through their misogynistic, crap bill because they know November is coming.   Blue tsunami!   If you are a fragile, white male, the GQP is your party.  Everyone else knows that Republicans are the enemy within who are trying to destroy democracy and take away freedom.
